Has anyone tried using a BSP iview on the new NW04s Portal? After we installed the NW04s SP10 Portal, BSP iviews are not working. The error is that the iview is N/A.
Any thouhgts?

Hello Leandro,
Look SSO is the process to that u have to specify Credentaials only once and u can connect to backend system without giveing Credentials again.
Now the basic Thing is that user that u have loged in portal and User in Ur Backend Should be same for SSO to Work.
once SSO is configured properly then u can call ur BSP application's from back end without Giveing Credentials again for backend login.
Hope this help's
Regards.

• PortalSessionID Property in BSP iView in Portal

Dear All,
I have created a BSP iView in Portal. This iView displays the start page of SAP Learning Solution
BSP Application named "hcm_learning" which allows the user to run the course he/she booked for in a content player which opens up in a new window.
The issue I faced is, Once i access the BSP iView through portal and click the "start now " button in that iView , it opens up the content player in the new window and runs the course. But when i logged off from portal, it content player is still running and its values are updated in the R/3 table.
How to restrict this?
What is the use of PortalSessionID property in BSP iView in portal?
Kindly help me in sorting out this?
Regards,
Eben Joyson

Hi,
Please make sure the IP matching option is not checked.
You should also check the [user mapping|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/f8/3b514ca29011d5bdeb006094191908/frameset.htm] settings in the portal to see if the portal user is mapped to the same user on the backend.
EDIT : there are a couple of notes that may help you >

• "Error while using XML iview" with XML iview template

Our portal platform: HP-UX, WAS 6.40 JAVA, EP 6.0 SP14
We created an XML iview using XML iview template and configured the XML source URL with RSS feeder addresses such as"https://forums.sdn.sap.com/rss/rssmessages.jsp?forumID=41". And then select RSS to XHTMLB as the XML transformation format and save. When I try to preview the iview, I always got error "Error while using XML iview, please contact your system administrator". Here is the log and among which I found an error "java.net.UnknownHostException: news.163.com". Does this indicate that the Portal server is not able to interpret the address of the URL host?

The log says:
Cannot process expression <System.client> because Invalid System Attribute: --> tells us that client parameter for SAP system running the BSP system is missing
System: 'SAP_LocalSystem', --> tells us that the BSP iView is using SAP_LocalSystem, that is the current portal
Try using a different system alias in the iView properties rather than SAP_LocalSystem. Specifically, you should use a system alias for a system object pointing to your ABAP system running the BSP, where the SAP client property should have a meaningful value.
Hope this helps.

• Using J2EE agent with Portal 7

Hello!
I'm trying to use a J2EE policy agent 2.2 for Application server 8.2 with portal, protecting /portal URL. However, after it prompts me to log in, the policies are not enforced. It works with the agentapp, but not with Portal when the AMagent filter is introduced.
Does anyone know why portal application ignores policies in access manager or where to get the documentation on how to properly troubleshoot this?
Thanks
-Max

Ok, its true.
My intention is to confirm if is possible install a Java instance in the same server that ECC is running with Abap instance.
My confusion is because note 1007341, in "deviations" part, says:
ECC 5.0 (ERP 2004 back-end system),
XSS 500 on a separate J2EE 6.40, EP NW04s
with business packages ESS and MSS (SAP ERP 2004).
The SAP system only supports this system landscape
if you have installed XSS 500 on a separate J2EE 6.40.
Then, would I install abap stack, and java stack as separate instances (not add-in!) ? and this landscape is supported acordding this note?
(in the example, A and C are in the same server)
thanks in advance!

• Passing values to BSP iview in Portal

Hello,
We have a BSP iview created in the portal. We would like to pass a parameter to the end of the url.
for example:
name of bsp iview: MDM_VEND_REQ
start page is:  start.htm
parameter: ?mode='create'
The first two are fine as there are place holders to enter that in the BSP iview properties page within the portal.
i tried entering the parameter in the application parameter property within the bsp iview in the portal. no luck
any ideas,
Thanks,
Sunil

In "Application Parmeter" enter the value as "<mode>=<create>"

• SAP BSP iview with timeout

Hi ,
We have created one SAP BSP iview . Is there a way to set time out only for this view instead of all portal application ?
Pl. let me know if anybody has any idea or hint.
Best Regards,

Hi ,
in SICF -->BSP we do have Session timeout for a stateful connection . But how about stateless connection.
if we have iview for this BSP , can we set timeout only for this iview.
In our case, we need to give 40 min to user to fill the form ( i.e BSP iview ) . How to set this timeout for BSP iview

• Error: Navigate back to the same iView with Portal Absolute Navigation?

Hi, SDN Fellows.
When I tried to do a portal absolute navigation from and to the same iView, the iView before an infinite loop that keep navigating by itself (the iView keep refreshing by itself non-stop).
Here is the code that I used:
My current URL, said: ROLES://portal_content/RoleA/WorksetA/PageA,
then I called this method to navigate to itself:
WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute("ROLES://portal_content/RoleA/WorksetA/PageA"
,WDPortalNavigationMode.SHOW_INPLACE
,WDPortalNavigationHistoryMode.NO_DUPLICATIONS
,null);
To make sure I have the right method, I changed the URL Target to, said: ROLES://portal_content/RoleA/WorksetA/PageB, then the navigation become fine and did navigate to PageB.
Do any of you know what can be the problem?
My optimal goal is to refresh the whole Web Dynpro application, by navigate to itself again. I used to implement this by using WDP Exit Plug and URL Navigation, but this does not work in the portal environment. So, I am thinking to use the portal navigation to do the same thing.
Second question, do you have any other alternative way to refresh the whole Web Dynpro application without using Exit Plug?
FYI:
My current EP version is NW04s SP6.
Thanks for advise.
Kent

Hi
Use this code in ur action button event..
WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute("ROLES://portal_content/..............",WDPortalNavigationMode.SHOW_INPLACE,(String) null,(String) null,WDPortalNavigationHistoryMode.NO_HISTORY,(String) null,(String) null,(String) null,(String) null,true,false);
It will open same view again..

• Error while making iview with visual composer

I am trying to make an iview usign visual composer.
In the document that i have for making the iview , it says that when you have the bapi list you need to drag and drop the bapi to the empty iview pane . When i do so it gives me the following error ...
"Portal request failed
(com/sap/mdi/ObjectFactory)"
What do i do ?
Would appreciate a prompt help!
thanks again for making me move ahead
I had a conversation with a parson on the forum named Venkat . I am posting the same for other people in the forum to understand what exactly is my problem and how much have we explored .
Regards
Deepak Singh
Hi Venkat ,
I tried to do so research on the problem and it is being talked about in a thread on the forum . They ask to refer to the sap note 765461 to resolve the mdi reference . In the note they ask you to refer the installation guide of the installed version of EP . I have EP 6.0 SP2 . The installation guide says the following ...
7.1.2 Adding References
To enable some of the features in the portal environment, add references to reference file.
To add a reference:
1. With a text editor, open the file:
Windows: <installation drive>:\usr\sap\<SAP J2EE instance name>\j2ee\<instance
number>\cluster\state\services\file\work\managers\reference.txt
Unix: /usr/sap/<SAP J2EE instance name>/j2ee/j2ee_<instance number>/
cluster/state/services/file/work/managers/reference.txt
2. Look for the line:
reference service:eisconnector library:jco
3. After the line mentioned in previous step, add the following in a new line:
reference service:eisconnector library:com.sap.mdi
4. Save your changes and close the file.
5. Delete the file:
Windows: <installation drive>:\usr\sap\<SAP J2EE instance name>\j2ee\<instance
number>\cluster\state\services\file\work\managers.bin
Unix: /usr/sap/<SAP J2EE instance name>/j2ee/j2ee_<instance number>/
cluster/state/services/file/work/managers.bin
6. Restart the SAP J2EE Engine. See Starting the SAP J2EE Engine [Page 60].
7. Restart the SAP J2EE Engine again.
I did the same ....but now my server is not starting . By chance i didn't keep a bakup of the file which they asked me to delete .
Now what do i do ?
I think i am stuck up badly here .
EVERYBODY IN THE FORUM PLEASE HELP
I am not sure how a thing that is mentioned in the installation guide cannot work !
Regards
Deepak Singh
Deepak,
It is not that bad. By deleting you are recreating that managers.bin file during startup based on the reference.txt and library.txt (recollecting from my memory). This could also happen if there is a typo or some special characters in the reference.txt
I don't know what J2EE patch you are at, but after PL22 you can actually add the reference using the "add reference" command from the administrator console.
could you please send the error you are getting? To revert back the simplest thing is removing the line you have added and restart.
Hope this helps.
-Venkat Malempati
Note: Please reward points if your problem is solved or useful.
Venkat ,
I am using J2EE engine 6.20 SP2 .I tried to get the server started by the following two methods
1) I removed my entry in the reference.txt file and then start the engine by running go.bat from the required path .
2) I got the original file managers.bin which i deleted and then placed in the required path and restarted the server
Both the options didn't work .
I am not getting any error when i restart the server. When i run the batch file go.bat it starts the console and shows me the various managers loading . After it shows the Clustermanager loading , it stops and gets stuck .
Not sure what should i do now .Is reinstallation the only solution ?
Is there a solution from the administrator console ?
Regards
Deepak Singh
Deepak,
No you don't need to re-install. Try the following.
1. First start the state controller by runing go.bat in the following directory.
/usr/sap/xxx/j2ee/cluster/state/go.bat
You get the message waiting for cluster manager.
2. start the server in a different window
/usr/sap/xxx/j2ee/cluster/server/go.bat
You get the message waiting for cluster manager
3. Start the dispatcher
/usr/sap/xxx/j2ee/cluster/dispatcher/go.bat
Please let me the know the error messages.
You can chat with me between 10:00 - 11:00 PM US EST.
Regards
-Venkat Malempati

People ,
I tried to do what venkat suggested . Infact I had mailed him the snapshot of the screen when i start the state controller as he suggested . For other people in the forum this is what is happening . When i start the state controller it displays an error and then the window closes immediately . I have managed the screen shots somehow and in those i could find two messeges in the begining and the end which could be useful for debugging the problem ...they are
1) [DBMS]: ID3004:DB file header do not match exception .
com.inqmy.services.dbms.server.interfaces.DatabaseException: Error while opening database ...
2) ID000544: Error statrting service dbms. DBMS service not started properly due to: Errro while opening database
[Framework -> criticalShutdown] Service dbms startup error !
After the state controller window closes i run the server in a different window and i get a message waiting for the cluster manager as suggested . Now i start the dispatcher and i get the same messege there as well ie waiting for the cluster manager .
What is to be done now . Is this information sufficient to suggest me something ? Please let me know if you require any other information .

Hi Vinit,

We have done toleration testing on firefox version 5 thru 6 and haven't got an issue with our website generating pdf files for our users. One of our users upgraded to firefox version 7.0.1 and they tried to generate a pdf report, now a screen pops up with Corrupted Content Error The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected. The query works fine when given directly to my SQL server.
Any ideas on this problem would be most appreciated.

It looks like the bug is related to ADODB objects. I found a related KnowledgeBase article that was written about the same issue, but never published for some reason. Here's what it has to say about your error:
"This error occurs when a query is run on the database that does not return any recordset data, such as a delete command. In this case, when you encounter the DB Tools Fetch Recordset Data VI, the state of the recordset is "closed" and produces the error.
To avoid the error, you can check for the state of the recordset and make sure that it isn't closed. To do this, use the DB Tools Get Properties VI and check the state from the properties cluster. An additional, or alternate, check would be to check for the beginning of file and end of file properties. If both BOF and EOF are both true, there is no data in the recordset.
If you open the example program, Database Fetching, you can see that they are using both of these checks.
In versions of the toolset prior to version 1.0.2, these checks were built in. This causes code without the checks to return this error if the toolset is updated from a previous version."

• Error using selectmany tags with backing beans - Beta 1

Hi All,
I'm not having any luck getting any of the selectmany tags working with back-end beans. I've concluded it just doesn't work. My example is derived from the selectmany sample in the tutorial, which also just doesn't work (there are 4 or 5 problems with the sample in the tutorial, including the fact that there's no tag called 'selectmany_checkbox' in Beta 1, it's renames to selectmany_checkboxlist. But I digress).
Anyway, the following is the relevant JSP snippet:
<html:selectmany_menu value="#{facesTest.items}">
<faces:selectitem itemValue="foo" itemLabel="foo" />
<faces:selectitem itemValue="bar" itemLabel="bar" />
</html:selectmany_menu>
Here's the relevant backing bean snippet:
protected ArrayList items = null;
public Object[] getItems() {
System.out.println("getItems():ENTRY");
if (items != null)
return items.toArray();
else
return null;
public void setItems(Object[] items)
System.out.println("setItems():ENTRY");
int len = 0;
if (null == items ||(len = items.length) == 0) {
return;
if (this.items != null)
this.items.clear();
this.items = new ArrayList(len);
for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) {
this.items.add(items);
I've declared the bean as follows in the face-config.xml:
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>facesTest</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>ipt.faces.FacesTest</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
</managed-bean>
The errors vary, but basically when I don't select anything from the multi-select menu, all is fine. When I do select something I get one of two messages returned thru the messages tag, either "Conversion Error setting value 'null' for 'expression'" when I select one item or " Conversion Error setting value '[Ljava.lang.String;@397d4e' for 'expression'." when I select two items.
Turning on 'FINEST', I get the output below: Any ideas? I've noticed several posting regarding the selectmany tags, any response on getting these to work?
thanks!
