Error using edit in Photoshop Elements 8

When I click on the edit button I get the following error.
Searched the forum and found no answers.
Any one have any suggestions?  I did reboot and tried again.
Thanks

Sync consumes space on your hard disk. To begin with you can turn sync off. To do so, please launch Task Manager / Activity Monitor and kill the exe ElementsOrganizerSync.exe. Now launch Organizer and click Edit >> Preferences >> Backup and Sync >> Now untick the checkbox corresponding to Backup/Sync.
Now the problem should not recur.
Also, just fyi.. Sync has been dropped in Version11 so this issue won't be visible at all
Thanks

I cannot open photo's stored in my i photo library to edit in Photoshop Elements.  Adobe comes up with the message program error. I use a Macbook Air.

No, that is done deliberately, since letting other programs poke around in the iphoto library is the fastest known way to corrupt it and make it wither up and die, along with your photos. If you want to use PSE with iphoto you have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor and send the photos from iphoto. Edit them, then save without changing the name or format and iphoto will remember your last saved edits + original, although you have to lose the edits to see the original again. You may need to set the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing to make this work.
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use file>open in PSE, make all the changes of any sort that you like, save the file, and import it to iphoto as a new file.

Having installed an upgrade for Photoshop Elements 13, I cannot open the application. I get an error message saying "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X".
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but get the same error message.

Which version of OS X do you have? It's not clear from your post whether "installed an upgrade" means you just installed PSE 13 as an upgrade or you installed an update to PSE 13, like ACR 9 or 13.1. Please clarify.

Good Morning.  I'm having a problem using both my Photoshop elements and premiere programs.  I've installed the programs, redeemed my code and entered the serial numbers, and created the adobe log-in.  I am able to open up the organizer without problems, but when I try to open up the photo editor (either by trying to open up the program from the main menu, or right-clicking on a photo in the organizer to edit in elements), the program asks me to sign in to adobe (which I can do and it doesn't give an an "incorrect password" or log-in ID error) then accept the terms and conditions.  When I click to accept the terms and conditions, nothing happens and the editor fails to open.  Everytime I click on the program, I get this same "loop" of signing in and accepting T&C's, but the program fails to open.  Any advice?

Premiere Elements 10 is now 64 bit, but not PSE10.
Take a look at your scratch disk set-up and if you have a spare volume, allocate that first before the C drive. Elements use scratch disks when it gets low on RAM.
Turn off face recognition and the auto-analyzer to improve performance.
When editing photos or videos check the task manager to see what background processes may be running and end them temporarily if not needed.

    Error trying to backup photoshop elements 4.  Getting windows error:  unable to save all data for file b0000408.jpg  data lost  try to save this file elsewhere;
and getting photoshop error "error encountered while writing file"  and a bunch of numbers.
I have backed up to this device without problems.

    Thank you for your reply.
I have tried the backup multiple times and it crashes in different places each time - it seems.
I did the select all and "ctrl W".  This did nothing.  Did you really mean "ctrl + W"?  Remember I have version 4.0.
I was able to do a successful back up onto a drive that has none of my pictures on it.  Could this be the problem?  I have an external hard drive that I have been using for my backups which have been working just fine.  I recently started storing my pictures in my catalog on this external hard drive.  Since then, I have not been able to back up to that drive.  Nor have I been able to back up to any other drive that has pictures on it.

  • Iphoto Editing with Photoshop Elements 9

I am going into Iphoto, clicking the Edit button and it brings up Photoshop Elements 9.  I make changes, they
look OK so I save it.  When I get back to IPhoto, it looks like the change has been made.  However when I go
back later in the day and click on the updated photo and there is a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle.
This means it can't find the original.  They're all located in Iphoto, what is happening?  Why does it look like the changes
are make and then I can't find them?

I do use a Mac, so I don¹t think versions is an issue. I would rather
pictures edited in PSE, which began life in iPhoto, should always be saved
back to iPhoto, as they were in Elements 8. That is not happening. Neither
do I know where to find pictures that PSE has saved.

    >> The save dialog sees an original and asks for permission to change it.
If you see the save as dialog you don't have your saving files preference set
correctly. To make versions, you must set it to Save over Original.
However, note that there is a big ol' bug in the mac version that if you even
open that particular preference window (even if you don't change anything
there) PSE will no longer add file extensions when you save. When using PSE as
external editor it doesn't matter so much, but if you ever save to the desktop
you will need to add the file extension manually to the saved file.

  • Aperture 2.1 does not show edits from Photoshop Elements 6 on a PPC

I am trying the Aperture 2.1 trial - and, so far I like it. However, when I use it with Photoshop Elements 6 as an external editor in Aperture on my iMac G5 PPC it seems to create another copy (as it should) but when I try to save the edited version in Aperture I see two versions of the original - both the same! I do not see the edited version at all. The copy has a round circle in bottom right corner. I have tried for hours with many edits and cannot find them in Aperture.
However, when I do exactly the same edits - on the same photos - using my Intel Macbook Pro it works as it should! I see the original and alongside is the edited version!
Why does this not work the same with my Power PC?
I have tried trashing the .plist preference of Aperture on the PPC but still does not work.
Cab anyone please help? I have a lot of 35mm slides to scan - using the Macbook Pro - and I want to edit using the iMac as the screen is much bigger!
    thanks

Brilliant! Problem solved - thank you Barbara! Thanks also Victor who identified the 'save' as the problem!
Just for your info I then realised why this had happened. I first used the trial with iPhoto - on the PPC - and I chose in the Preferences 'Save as' rather than Save. I forgot the non destructive nature of the edits and that 'saving over' is not the same as replace! As soon as I changed the preference on the PPC back to the default of save over - it worked as on the Intel Mac. My edit now appears alongside the original (and it has a small circle at bottom right corner)
This is great - I have now ordered Aperture and look forward to testing how to get the best out of using it with PS Elements 6 (which is also very good)
Thank you all for these discussions. It is fantastic to be able to get such speedy advice - and problems solved - by so many helpful experts!
I am grateful - best wishes

  • Edit in Photoshop Elements 10 question:

Ok, I'm using LR3 and Elements 10. I need to make sure I'm doing this right. Im in LR, and I want to send a DNG file over to Elements. I click Edit with Photoshop Elements, it sends the file over to Elements. I do my edits in Elements, then click Save. It does come back into LR, but its still the PSD and I want it to be in DNG?  Whats the best way to do this?
Is the only way it comes back is either a jpeg or psd? Or should I send files over in TIFF instead of PSD?  And which color space should I be in?
    Thanks folks.

    Mike,
DNGs actually make the most sense for Raw type images. For rendered images, they're just another container around your rendered image (TIFF, JPG, ...).
In order to pass an image from LR to PSE, LR will always create a rendered derivate file of the Raw/DNG photo (either TIFF or PSD), and pass the rendered image file it to PSE. Upon return from PSE, the rendered image is updated in LR, but stays in the same file format.
Of course you can convert the TIFF/PSD to DNG after return using LR's conversion (Library -> Convert Photo to DNG), but I cannot really see a benefit in doing that.
There is no option of passing a JPEG to PSE using "Edit in" and receiving the updated version automatically in LR. If you want to work with JPEGs (which I don't recommend because of compression issues), you'd have to save the image as JPEG in PSE and re-import it into LR manually.
    TIFF vs. PSD
These days (with TIFF supporting layers), there is no advantage of using PSD over TIFF anymore, and TIFF is a more common format than PSD. So I believe most people are using TIFFs to be passed to external applications.
    Color Space
You want to pass as big a color space to external editors as possible. This would be ProPhotoRGB for LR.
BUT, as quite a few functions are not available in PSE when using a 16-Bit image (i.e. cloning), I only pass 8-Bit TIFFs to PSE. Using ProPhotoRGB in a 8-Bit image - as far as I understand it - can have some disadvantages for image quality. For this reason I'm passing 8-Bit TIFFs in AdobeRGB (which is smaller than ProPhotoRGB, but bigger than sRGB) to PSE.

  • Editing in Photoshop Elements 9 (tiff and tif)

Last week at the end I moved to Aperture. Now I've some problem when I edit with Photoshop Elements 9.
I've setted Aperture to transfer a 8 bit tiff to photoshop now Aperture tranfer a .tiff file to photoshop and when i save (not save as) photoshop save back a .tif file that obvisioly Aperture don't see..
There is a way in Aperture to set to export a .tif or in photoshop to save a .tiff; I know it is just a matter to remember to add an "f" before saving but it is so easy to forgot....

Only your camera can save as NEF. It's not even a file, really, a Raw is just the dump of the data from your camera sensor.
When you process (or edit) a Raw it has to be saved as something else - in this case a Jpeg.
You can choose tiff in the Preferences if you prefer.
But there is no way to edit a raw file and then send it, as a raw, to another editor on any system.
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.
    Regards
    TD

  • Edit in Photoshop Elements 9 from Lightroom 3 on a Mac

I can't seem to get the PS9 to open properly with my photo.  So I'm in LR3 and I right click and select 'edit in photoshop elements 9'.  It asks me if I want to 'edit a copy with lightroom adjustments' - I say yes and click 'edit'.
PS9 opens and I see the welcome screen with the PS9 editor behind it but neither have my photo loaded.  I can close the welcome screen but the editor still doesn't have my photo loaded.
How do I get PS9 to open my photo so I can edit it?
Any help appreciated - I'm probably just missing something simple but it's eluding me...

    Hillsitter,
I use a Windows PC and PSE Version 8.
However, I set up the link to PSE by going to Edit > Preferences and
clicking on the External Editing Tab.
I then clicked on the 'Choose' box and browsed to > Program Files > Adobe >
Photoshop Elements 8.0 and I then clicked on the Elements Organiser 8.0.exe
file to create the Link to the Elements Organiser. I could have linked to
    the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file.
I know this will be somewhat different on a Mac but the principle should be
the same i.e. link directly to the .exe file.
    I hope this helps.

  • "Edit in Photoshop Elements" missing from windows context menu.

How do I get the "Edit in Photoshop Elements" back in my context menu? I think what happened was that after installing PSE 13 I uninstalled PSE 12 and that may have removed the context menu item. Just guessing. Is there a way to add it back without re-installing PSE 13?

Right click on a photo file of the type that you will want to open in PSE. In the context menu, mouse over Open With to open the menu. Select "Choose default program" and in the window that opens select PSE 13 if it appears in either Recommended or Other. If it isn't shown, choose Browse and navigate to the PSE 13 .exe file in Programs/Adobe/Photoshop Elements. If you want files of this type to always open in PSE when double-clicked, check the box "Always use the selected program". If you want PSE 13 to only appear in the Open With menu, be sure the box is not checked. Click OK.

  • Can I select multiple photos from iPhoto to edit in Photoshop Elements?

From iPhoto I am wanting to select all the photos from an event or album to edit in Photoshop Elements to avoid having to switch back and forth between the two. I have PSE set up as the external editor in iPhoto. When I have the photos selected in iPhoto and click the edit button, the most photos that will show in the PSE project bin is 4. I can go back to iPhoto and select more and they will be added to the existing photos in the project bin, but again I am trying to avoid having to go back and forth, and want to be able to edit one event/album in one sitting. I've tried highlighting each individual photo within an event, and also just the event, but still the max is 4 photos. It seems when I did this a couple months ago it worked fine, but since it is not doing it now I am questioning whether I imagined the whole thing! Is there a way to have more than 4 photos at a time? Thanks in advance for all help provided.

Hi, cyndy. Welcome to the discussions. No, 4 is the largest number you can send to PSE at one time. (This is an iphoto limitation, incidentally, not a PSE limitation.)
