Error when connecting IPOD

Hi all,
My IPOD classic (160GB) recently froze. I had to reset it to get it going again and thus it emptied all my songs. When I connected to my Itunes library to reload the IPOD, I got this Microsoft Windows error message on my computer. (Windows 7 utimate)
*"You need to format the disc in Drive E before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"* There is then an option below to format disk. I tried this and it told me I couldnt do it.
I have never had this problem before. I tried my daughters IPOD touch and it connects to the library with no problem. I have been through the 5 steps Apple suggests (reset etc). I have updated Itunes. I have reinstalled Itunes. None of it works. When ever I connect my IPOD classic I get the same error message. It must be the IPOD. Has anyone else experienced this and besides throwing my IPOD in the bin, does anyone have any ideas?
cheers
John Corey

I tried this and it told me I couldnt do it.
What was the precise text of that error message, John?

  • Keep getting unknown error when connecting iPod?

Each time I try connecting my iPod in I get an error message in iTunes. It does the same thing when I connect my iPhone in too.

I get an error saying "iTunes could not connect to this iPod because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)."
Please help I'm not sure what's wrong and can't find anything on this issue! D:

well last I tried it did but I'm not using it now because it's at geek squad for repair so that's why I'm using the mac. I've always had this problem with this mac but never addressed it since I used my pc in the past. I think the problem may be is the mac needs updating. It's a G3 but I'm planning on taking it in and having it updated to the newest os/processor, all that good stuff.
But I just switched usb cables and that seemed to work for the time being. Thankfully

  • Error when connecting iPod Video

    Hi
I have owned my iPod Video for a couple of months now, and my Macbook for 6 months. iTunes and iPod have been working well together, no problems. However today when I connected my iPod into my Macbook, iTunes freezes for about 5 seconds then "quits unexpectedly". I tried using both USB ports but with the same outcome. I have attempted this about 5 or 6 times now, each time iTunes freezing then quitting as soon as the iPod is connected. Any help would be much appreciated.
PS. Just tried copying a file to my iPod through Finder, and it copies fine. Seems to be an iTunes issue?

Thanks Zevoneer, but no real success. I did all that but when I tried to sync after it, it got partially through the sync (about 10% I'd guess) and presented an error message saying that the disk couldn't be read form or written to (sorry but I forgot the error number). I disconnected the iPod, waited a few minutes then reconnected and again got the message but then the ipod continued to finish the sync, even though almost all of the music and 2 of my 4 videos didn't go over to the iPod. I'm now thinking that this just isn't satisfactory reliability from the device since I use it a lot in my work and rely on it. But this new iPod is only a few months old, had very little use and only made about 12 recordings - In comparison, I've used the Nano heaps but now want to move over to the bigger one, basically for more capacity and bigger screen for video. I wonder if it's a hard drive failure in this iPod?

  • -208 error when connecting iPod: No photos uploaded

I am using iTunes 6.0.1 with an iPod photo. Recently when I try to transfer data to iPod, only the music is transferred. When it tries to transfer photos, it gives me the following dialog:
The iPod "[name of my iPod]" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-208).
Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem?

    Hi,
Are you using a Mac with iPhoto? If you're using Windows, I'm afraid I can't help.
If you're using a Mac, I can help a little, but unfortunately I'm looking for a final solution to this myself.
The problem seems to lie with the iPhoto library itself. If you don't have too many photos then the best thing to try - it did work for me - is creating a new iPhoto library, exporting the photos from the existing (broken) one, and re-importing them into the new library. Check the iPhoto Help for info on this, but basically if you hold down the option (alt) key when you start iPhoto you get to choose between libraries.
The bad news is that you will lose any keywords and ratings that you might have assigned (this is the reason I can't go with this workaround). Titles will be ok.
If you would like to have a go at saving your keywords, I noticed someone had written an Applescript to export keywords - but I haven't tried it myself yet (last resort for me). See this article on macosxhints.com
    Good luck with it.
    Paul.

  • ReInstall iTunes error when connecting iPod

"itunes cannot run because some its required file are missing, please reinstall itunes"
i get this EVERY single time i plug my ipod in now, and every time i reinstall again and still it does the same... what is up with it anyone know?
also even though itunes 'supposedly' isnt installed properly my ipod still says 'do not disconnect' on it, why would it say that when itunes isnt working??
    any help appreciated.

"itunes cannot run because some its required file are missing, please reinstall itunes"
hmmmm. that message often indicates an issue with the registry: for example, folks can get it if they System Restore over a fresh itunes or QuickTime install, and strip out the fresh installation registry entries.
so the fact that you're getting it over and over again like this has me worried about malware.
download fresh definitions and run vigorous spyware and virus scans. if your security software providers offer them, try supplementing that with an online virus scan. (sometimes it can pick up an infestation even when the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
if your security software providers don't offer online virus checks, perhaps try the Symantec one. (apologies in advance, it takes an eternity to complete.)

  • I have an unknown error (-81) when connecting iPod Photo and Nano

This error keeps coming up when connecting iPods to iTunes and no photos can be downloaded.
I have downloaded the all the latest iTune and iPod updates

    Hello penel2907,
This could be due to a hardware issue. You may try using a different USB port on your computer.
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020, 1669.
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • BSOD when using Itunes And/Or when connecting IPOD classic

I have started getting a blue screen of death (BSOD)when opening Itunes followed by opening Iexplorer after a computer restart. I also get the same error when connecting the Ipod 80gb classic, it may take 3 or 4 attempts to get the Ipod conencted, initial recognition but then "ok to disconnect" within 10 seconds.
    Error code is 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 804e83e8, parameter3 f7938a68, parameter4 f7938764. with no driver of sys file identified.
Currently driving (no pun intended) me crazy. I have updated all drivers I can think of, uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and Apple Ipod device drivers with no solution.
    Thanks

  • ITunes stop working when connecting ipod 4th generation on Vista

When connecting ipod 4th generation to a computer running Vista Ultimate, ITunes (version 8) closes. Windows provide the following message - iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
    Thanks!

i have the same issue... but i found a workaround.. i tried 3 diff OS's . didnt change the problem. To Add apps or music to ur Ipod... simply DISCONNECT the Ipod from the PC then add files/folders to library. Then connect the ipod back to PC and sync. it has no problem adding the files that way (at least in my case) I hope this helps... Good Luck =)

Maybe this information has a link with my blackberry problem:
I also have a problem with an another device. (a TOMTOM GPS system), which happened almost at the same time.
Usually, when I connect this device, it will directly open the GPS sofware ( where I can download the new updating stuff). But since this Blackberry problem, I can not do it anymore. Impossible to connect the TOMTOM onto it. It is not recognize onto my computer.
For information, I also do synchronization of my adress book between my phone and TOMTOM.
