As Jim as stated, you do not want the OS, video app, and media all competing for hard drive access.
It may have worked before, but that doesn't mean will work henceforth, as you have learned.

when I plug my iPhone in with usb connected to my computer, iTunes pops up ofcourse and opens but then a box appears and says: This iPhone cannot be used because the apple mobil device service is not started. never had this come up before, now I do have slingbox installed on my iphone and always worked good and i did the update today for the slingbox to get 3G and now i get this error, now i dont know if it is because of that update, i have no idea but i do know my iPhone isn't being recongized in itunes. help

This iPhone cannot be used because the apple mobil device service is not started.
Right-click "My Computer", and select "Manage". Expand "Services & Applications" and click "Services". Maximise the window so you can see what's going on.
Find the Apple Mobile Device Service in the list. Does the status show as "Started" and the startup type as "Automatic"?

  • HELP! iTunes is encountering errors when I plug in my iPod

I have an 8-gig second generation iPod Touch. For a few months now I have been unable to sync my iPod due to the fact that when I plug it in it says that "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close", I've sent an error report numerous times but, as you know, that doesn't help.
I can still load music onto my iTunes and it works fine, also, my brother (who had the exact same iPod and uses the same PC as me) is fine with his iPod, he can sync it and everything. Can someone tell me what on Earth is happening?!
    Thanks, in advance.

"Faulting application itunes.exe, version 9.0.2.25, faulting module quicktime.qts, version 7.65.17.80, fault address 0x00909a47."
Hmmmm. If we take it at its word, it's an issue with your QuickTime. I'm not convinced that that's the fundamental cause of your issue here, Zypo, but we should probably first try swapping out your QuickTime just in case.
Download and save a fresh copy of the "standalone" QuickTime installer to your hard drive (don't run the install on line). Get the version that doesn't mention iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Quit iTunes if you have it open. (ITunes uses QuickTime, and if iTunes is open, it'll interfere with the uninstall.)
Now head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll clear away any leftover QuickTime program files or folders.
    (1) In "My Computer" open "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    (2) Open the "Program files" folder.
    (3) Right-click on the QuickTime folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    (4) Go back into "Local Disk (C:)" or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    (5) Open the "Windows" folder.
    (6) Open the "system32" folder.
    (7) Check for the presence of a QuickTime and a QuickTimeVR file. If either file still exists, delete each of them.
Empty the Recycle Bin and restart the PC. Now reinstall QuickTime by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Does the install go through okay? If so, try launching iTunes and plugging in the ipod again.
Still crashing, or does it work better this time?

  • Blue screen error when I plug my iphone into my PC

HELP!!! I just got an iPhone, and now when I try to plug it into my PC, my PC crashes and gives me a blue screen error. I have made sure I have the latest updates of itunes, and Windows, and I am just not sure what to do . . . Can somebody please walk me through this? Everything I read talks about syncing, but that requires that the computer doesn't crash the minute I put the iPhone into the USB jack . . .
I did sync it once fine, downloaded a few apps, which was also fine. Now I took some photos with my iphone, and wanted to put them on my computer, but it won't even let me plug it in. Please HELP!!!
    Thank you.

My System also crahses from time to time, on connecting the iPhone. I have also checked this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1174035) but I dont have a logitech CAMERA. I do have a G15 Keyboard and a mouse but nothing else. THe Problem with the crash is: My pc neither shows a bluescreen nor is rebooting. Means: direct power off, like I would have pulled out the cable...
very weird....plase help me, if you have any Idea.

the device option does not appear on my itouch or ipod when it is plugged in

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar
    Next try:

  • Error when opening plug-in

I get the following error message when opening a plug-in
The plug-in provaider says the fault not being theirs.
    Thanks

    Well
Not really. This ends up with statement that the error has nothing to do with Canon.
I have now reloaded AMD driver and PSP but nothing seams to work. I also noticed that the same problem appeares when I try to print in PSE 11so we can exclude this error to be caused by LR.
    Thanks for your help

  • ITunes Store error when I plug in iPhone

Anyone else getting the "Could not complete the iTunes Store request. The iTunes store may be busy"
It was working (but not activating) until around 11pm last night. Now as of 8am this morning it's the same thing. Is my iPhone dead?
I am on the east coast (NJ). Anyone else getting this message?
BTW, I had to initially fix a billing issue (AT&T told me I had to pay balance before they would activate). I did and now I'm getting this error.

You might want to recheck with AT&T. Those errors usually come up when there are billing credit issues.

  • 9006 Error when downloading iOS 5 on iTouch 4th Gen

Yeah I have been trying to download iOS 5 for my iTouch 4th Gen because "it's able to now" but today I tried it for the fifth time and it got around 550mb out of the 770mb download and it said i got the 9006 Error. I have no idea what this is or how to fix it. All I know is that I want to download this ASAP. I am running the latest version of iTunes and im using Windows 7

  • I keep getting a podcast syncing error when I plug my iphone into computer "podcasts no longer exist"?

Exact error message is: Podcasts on the iPhone cannot be synced because all of the podcasts selected for syncing no longer exist.  I'm sure this is a settings issue or something?  My phone is 4s, and I have the podcasts on the phone, have subscribed, have them on the computer -- why do these not sync?  I don't get it.  Thanks.

Sorry, the error message should read, "...the Apple Mobile Device service has not been started."

  • When i plug my itouch into my computeri get a pop-up that says "this ipod cannot be used because the apple mobile device service is not started." and when i plug it it my itouch name does not come up on my itunes, how do i start it and fix this?

When I plug my iPod Touch 4g into my computer I get a pop-up that says "This iPod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." And when I plug in my iTouch the name of the iTouch does not come up on my iTunes. How do I start the Apple Mobile Device? How do I fix this?

I'd start with the following document with that one:

  • HT1923 ITunes no longer starts when I plug in iTouch.

ITunes is on Windows 7.  It operates well in all other respects.  It does recognize the iTouch and synchronize.  iTunes just does not start automatically when I plug in the iTouch as it used to do.  Is there a fix short of reinstall iTunes which doesn't seem worth the bother?

It SHOULD show up in iPhoto if you have photos in your Camera Roll, in addition to opening in iTunes.
