  • Alert error when master database is down

When the master database is down (server maintenance, offline back up) a lot of error messages appear in the alert.log of the slave database. Is possible to disable registration of error ORA 12012 and related when master database is closed ??

No, errors reported by the SNP processes, like most background processes, are always recorded in the alert.log

  • "Insufficient privileges"-error when starting database when on network

    Hi
I have an Oracle 9.2.0.5 database installed on my laptop (Windows 2000 Prof), but I have a small problem.
When I'm plugged in to the company's network, I can start the database normally.
However, when I'm not connected to the company network, i.e. only logged in locally on my laptop, then I get an ORA-01031 Insufficient Privileges error when I start the database. Therefor, I can't do anything.
When I'm plugged into the company network, start the database, and then unplug my laptop, I can still connect to the database. So I guess it checks some userrights only when it starts the database.
I checked the user account settings, and my user is a local administrator, and is in the ORA_DBA usergroup.
Does someone know which setting I have to change?

You can install MS Loopback Adapter on your system and assign an IP Address to the loopback adapter. You should then be able to work even when not connected to the network.

Cause: When the database writer opens the datafile, it is accessing a

I have installed Oracle 11gr2 on my laptop having OS ubuntu 10.04, after installation i am receiving ORA-01031 error when try to log in with the command
sqlplus / as sysdba what should i do to resolve it...

    Hi,
there are a lot of possibilities why this can be wrong. Look at Oracle Support for note 233223.1, "Checklist for Resolving CONNECT AS SYSDBA (INTERNAL) Issues". This gives links to notes which leads you to maybe the solution.
    Possibilities are:
    - you are root, which is not allowed. You should connect with the oracle user
    - your user is not part of the dba group
    - permissions on files
    - and many more

    put if the don't exist:
    sqlplus /nolog

    create user "OPS$COMPUTERNAME\NW4ADM" identified externally;
    grant sapconn to "OPS$COMPUTERNAME\NW4ADM";

  • Broken Pipe Error when using database link

We are using WebLogic 6.1 sp2 / oracle database 8.1.6. / thin drivers.
The connection works fine, unit I try to access a view that has a union and db links
    in it.
We have used one or the other (view or a dblink) and it works, but when used together,
    we get broken pipe error.
I haven't proven that this is the cause, I will try to setup a test, but I was wondering
if this is a known issue or what ??
    thanks

You need to create the catalog views that support distributed SQL in your remote database (the database you connect to via db_link).
To create these views, connect "/ as sysdba" and run:
    $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql
which will in turn call several other scripts including: $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catrpc.sql (which creates your missing view)
It is best to run the whole catproc.sql script (and not just the catrpc script).
You can run and rerun catproc.sql several times quite safely.

  • Error when creating database after oracle 8.1.6 is installed.

    Hi,
I used Redhat 6.1 and installed Oracle 8.1.6. I think the oracle software is installed successfully. However, when I attempted to create the database by Database Configuration Assistant, I got an error message when I click on 'start' button.
The message is ORA-01031: insufficient privileges and ORA-01012: not logged.
How can I solve the problem to create my first database?
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Tony

    Make sure svrmgrl still works.
To startup a database, you must login as oracle, and oracle must also be a member of the dba group.
Also, make sure you set the following environment variables: $ORACLE_HOME, $ORACLE_SID.
    Good Luck!

  • Error when update Database

I want to install PeopleSoft HRCS database and the database type is system. The version of peopletools is 8.49 and the HRCS is 9.0. After I create the database and import the data, I do the task of Updating Database to Latest PeopleTools Release. I do it step by step, when I do task7B-4-8, I can’t open data mover by PS. The error is the user PS has no create session privilege. So I grant the privilege to PS, it can open data mover. However before I do the task of update database, I can open the data mover by PS, I don’t know which step makes the mistake. When I do task7B-4-9, the error is :

The task 7B-4-8 requires a bootstrap mode connection, you should connect to DataMover with the database owner of the Peoplesoft objects (i.e. SYSADM) :
    To update PeopleTools system data:
+1. Invoke Data Mover by running <PS_HOME>\bin\client\winx86\psdmt.exe.+
    The PeopleSoft Logon window appears.
+2. Log on using the access ID you specified when you created your Data Mover scripts with the Database Setup program.+
+This will start Data Mover in bootstrap mode.+
Furthermore, before launching psae, you should be sure the user people has all the necessary grant by running grant.sql script, and check the Configuration Manager settings.

    Hi,
ORA-01190: control file or data file string is from before the last RESETLOGS
Cause:     Attempting to use a data file when the log reset information in the file does not match the control file. Either the data file or the control file is a backup that was made before the most recent ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS.
Action: Restore file from a more recent backup.
In fact, if I'm not wrong, when you tried to open the database with "resetlogs" clause, it seems that the information kept in this control file points to datafiles checkpoints information that are older than the most recent resetlogs currently recorded in this control file. Have you tryied issue a recover database using backup controlfile?

  • TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error (when starting database)

    Hi.. everyone.
I am testing oracle9i and oracle10g on the same machine, windows xp pro.
When I was trying to start oracle10g using command line mode,
I got the error, TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
    I entered these command.
    set oracle_home=10g_homexxxx
    set oracle_sid=xxdb
    sqlplus /nolog
    conn sys/xxx as sysdba
I got the error, TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
The install of two different versions of oracle , oracle9i and oracle10g,
on the same machine(windows xp pro) could cause this problem?
Is it safe to install two different versions of oracle on the same window machine?
Is there any confliction in environment variables?
I think there is no problem on the linux, unix system.
I stoped the listener of oracle9i and tried again. But I failed.
I am looking forwared to hearing your experience and advice.
Thanks in advance. Have a good day.
    Ho.

    Dear Werner.
    Thanks for your reply.
I shutdown oracle9i and 10g, using "services.msc" utility from windows.
    Therefore, "OracleService<xxdd>" is not running.
What I want to do is to startup 10g database using "cmd",command line mode.
In addition, I would like to know why I could not start 10g database, using "cmd"
    on windows xp pro.
I installed 9i first and installed 10g. I think there are a kind of environment variable
    conflictions.
I am wondering how I can fix them, and whether or not they are curable.
Thanks for your reply. Have a good day.
    Regards.
    Ho.
