Error when launching Photoshop - cannot modify scratch disk preferences

Hi all,
I recently installed photoshop CS5. When launching it I get the following error:
'Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available'.
I went on this forum and found out several threads relevant to that issue. I did the following to try to fix the problem:
Did a clean uninstall of CS5, made sure no file pertaining to CS5 were remaining
Reinstalled CS5
As the problem was still occuring I did the following (as hinted in the threads)
I reset the photoshop preferences according to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/370735?tstart=0
I modified the setting of the drive HD (read & write everywhere, share folder checked)
I then tried to change the scratch disk preferences (launch photoshop then click Option+Command+Shift)I can select my disk but the selection does next time I try it is still the same (c.f. screen shot): first = startup, second = none, etc.)
I would really appreciate if someone could help me on this one.

I have one drive, but the point is rather that when I select it (=macintosh HD), it is still Startup that appears in the menu as depicted above on the next launch.

Error " ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Invalid argument" when open a terminal window

Every time I open a terminal (bash), it shows error " ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Invalid argument". I googled it but did not find the solution that works. My OS is 10.8.2. I followed the instruction here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/upgraded-to-php-530-on-mac-now-no-database-co nnection but it doesn't work.(basically, I just commented some lines in that file). Can anyone help?

Please help... "Could not initialize Photoshop becauae the scratch disks are full.

I am using Photoshop 7 on Windows Vista. I just bought a new computer and installed Photoshop (which worked fine on my old computer running XP). It installs correctly but wen I launch it I get the error "Could not initialize Photoshop because the scratch disks are full." Then Photoshop immedietly shuts down.
My C drive has 1.3 TB free, my D drive has 145 GB free and my E drive has 5 GB free. I've tried defragmenting all the drives and deleting any temp files.
I do not know why this is happening and would greatly appreciate any advice.

there's a bug in 7 that causes this on drives with more than 1 TB free. upgrade photoshop to fix it or temporarily fill the drive with garbage or partition it so the free space is less than 1TB.
a side note is that current upgrade policy only gives special pricing to 3 versions back. right now that's version 7. if you wait until cs4 comes out you'll be 4 versions back and will be out of the upgrade path. then if you want a higher version in the future you'll have to purchase a full license again. if planning on upgrading photoshop - ever - suggest you do it before cs4 ships.

Photoshop RAM versus scratch disk/cache use

I recently ugraded my Mac to a new (to me) Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz with 4GB RAM and two HDDs, one with OSX at 500GB and the other with 250GB (currently empty).
I followed the Adobe recommendations on setting up Photoshop CS2 for performance. I have my cache and scratch disk as the second (250GB) disk and therefore a different volume to the operating system. This disk is currently empty. In the cache settings, Photoshop sees 3072MB of the 4GB memory as available to it, and I have set the amount that PSCS2 can use to 100% (as Adobe states this is OK if you have 4GB or more of RAM).
With nothing else running on the Mac, when I open a tiff image of around 70MB, I can see in the status line at the bottom of the image window that the Efficiency is sometimes 100% but often drops to below 90% and down to 75% when doing image manipulations, which means that the scratch disk is being used (Adobe states that the Efficiency should be 95-100% when all actions are being done in RAM). However, when I look at the RAM status, there is still 2.5GB free, so PSCS2 has obviously not used all the RAM available to it when it starts using the scratch disk. I can also see that activity on the 250GB drive occurs when I do these manipulations, so the scratch disk is being accessed rather than actions being done in RAM
The only time I see the available RAM figure reduce is when I open multiple images. If I open ten 70MB tiff files then the RAM usage goes up a lot.
So my question is, why does PSCS2 use the scratch disk almost immediately when I manipulate an image even when I have told it to use 100% of the available 3072MB of available RAM? Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Thank you for your response. I did work through the optimisation guidelines before posting my message. I guess it is more about understanding why PSCS2 used the scratch disk when there is over 2GB of memory available, but I accept that it does what it does for good reason.
Could you let me know what the partitioning of my scratch disk will achieve? I did not see that in the optimisation guidelines, but I will definitely give it a try. I am interested to now what is actually does.

Hello Mohammadshamlou. I understand that you're having some issues using your Recovery Disc. It is giving you the error that the drive is not connected. Is this correct? How long have you had the notebook?
What issue originally led you to want to try a recovery?
The error seems to imply that it is not detecting the hard drive as this would be the most logical destination drive. So, I feel the best thing to try first is verify that the hard drive is in proper working order. Follow these steps and please post the result.

We have a customer that sees an error when launching any report in InfoView for Crystal Server XIR2:
Description: Error in File E:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Data\slvnsb41.pageserver\slvnsb41.pageserver\child.2\temp\procReportTemp\mgrTemp\ps_13ec5b68e6bfbc0.rpt: The table could not be found.
These steps have been taken:
1) The Crystal Server Business View install and BIAR file imports are successful.
2) Database connection has been configured and tested.
3) All the tables are browseable in the Business View Manager and contain data.
4) All the required tables exist in the database.
Options or suggestions anyone?

Can someone tell me how to open this as a SUPPORT CASE that someone will actually help solve?

After upgrading the client installation on Citrix was not correctly upgraden. Re-installing the client fils solved the problem.

If you launch the app directly from the session hosts using the same account that your using with remoteapp what are you getting? Try and RDP to the session host when you attempt it. I would also check rsop.msc to see if you have any GPO or scripts that
are manipulating themes.

After Effects Plugin Error when launching

I recently installed Red Giant Knoll Light Magic Pro plugin and get the following error when launching AE CS4 9.02 on a 2.53Ghz Intel Macbook Pro with 4Gb Ram and Snow Leopard.
After Effects has encountered an error.

As a start, move the KLF plug-in out of the shared MediaCore folder (Library:Apllication Support:Adobe and something; not on my Mac ATM) to the conventional AE plug-in folder (Applications:Adobe After Effects CS4:Support Files:Plug-Ins) I've reminded my friends at RG a hundred times, but their installer stil luses bad default locations. If that doesn't fix it, then indeed you have a problem. Which version of the plug-in are you using? Most complaints revolve around v2.5's GPU usage, which is on by default and causes a lot of trouble. Older versions do not do this, so they are more stable....
