Error when mounting IDisk on my PC
I downloaded the iDisk Utility for XP, ran the install, opened the Utlity, it asked for iDisk account and password, I entered both. The process started, about half way through it paused......and then, boom, a descriptive error message stating that "iDisk Utility failed to mount your iDisk". Thanks for stating the obvious.
Any ideas why I can't get this to mount? By the way, I confirmed that my PC is running Windows XP.
You should probably post your quiestion in the .Mac discussions:

Hi!
I get this strange error when connecting my external drive:
org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.UnknownFailure: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
dmesg | tail says this:
EXT4-fs warning (device sdb1): ext4_fill_super: extents feature not enabled on this filesystem, use tune2fs.
EXT4-fs: sdb1: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (4000400).
EXT4-fs warning (device sdb1): ext4_fill_super: extents feature not enabled on this filesystem, use tune2fs.
EXT4-fs: sdb1: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (4000400).
I didn't touch the external drive for some weeks now (it worked perfectly last time). It is ext3 by the way, not ext4.
So - before i use tune2fs or something like it i thought: Better ask before i lose data or worse...
Thanks in advance, HaukeHi!
Thanks for the answers, i still couldn't solve the problem...
First: I don't have a mke2fs.conf.pacnew, only the original which reads as follows:
[defaults]
base_features = sparse_super,filetype,resize_inode,dir_index,ext_attr
blocksize = 4096
inode_size = 256
inode_ratio = 16384
[fs_types]
ext3 = {
features = has_journal
ext4 = {
features = has_journal,extents,huge_file,flex_bg,uninit_bg,dir_nlink,extra_isize
inode_size = 256
ext4dev = {
features = has_journal,extents,huge_file,flex_bg,uninit_bg,dir_nlink,extra_isize
inode_size = 256
options = test_fs=1
small = {
blocksize = 1024
inode_size = 128
inode_ratio = 4096
floppy = {
blocksize = 1024
inode_size = 128
inode_ratio = 8192
news = {
inode_ratio = 4096
largefile = {
inode_ratio = 1048576
blocksize = -1
largefile4 = {
inode_ratio = 4194304
blocksize = -1
hurd = {
blocksize = 4096
inode_size = 128
Then after considering the risks i tried this:
e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/sdb1
This comes out, and it has no effect:
bash-3.2# e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/sdb1
e2fsck 1.41.4 (27-Jan-2009)
e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block beim Versuch, /dev/sdb1 zu öffnen
SuperBlock ist unlesbar bzw. beschreibt kein gültiges ext2
Dateisystem.
Which translates to "Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sdb1
Superblock is not readable or describes no valid ext2 filesystem. If device is valid and contains a ext2 (which it does) then the superblock is damaged and could be replaced by another SuperBlock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
(which didn't work...)
And yes, other mediums (fat32, ext3) do work -
Mount error when mounting Windows Server share
Trying to mount a share on a Windows Server I have in my home.
When I use:
smbclient -L SERVERNAME -U administrator
and I enter the password after the prompt
It returns a list of all the shares in the server like so:
Domain=[SERVERNAME] OS=[Windows Server 2003 3790 Service Pack 2] Server=[Windows Server 2003 5.2]
Sharename Type Comment
SHARE1 Disk Shared folder
SHARE2 Disk Shared folder
SHARE3 Disk Shared folder
Domain=[SERVERNAME] OS=[Windows Server 2003 3790 Service Pack 2] Server=[Windows Server 2003 5.2]
Server Comment
Workgroup Master
but when I try to mount of the shares with
# mount -t cifs //SERVERNAME/SHARE1 /mnt/mountpoint -o user=administrator,password=password
it returns an error
mount error: could not resolve address for SERVERNAME: Unknown error
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,the SERVERNAME in these commands is a netbiosname and can differ from the hostname.
Smbclient seems to use it's own method to resolve netbiosnames, possibly the mount command uses a different method.
Try the mount command with the ip-address of the server instead of SERVERNAME to verify mounting the share works.
If the share can be mounted by //ip-address/SHARE1 , you may need additional options for the mount command to make netbios name resolution work correctly.
check man mount.cifs .

Unrecognized Filesystem error when mounting dmg
Ok. So my problem is this.
My MacBook Pro became unresponsive, when I booted, it gave a question mark on the white screen instead of starting Snow Leopard. Still don't know why, but that isn't really important now.
When this happened I got my snow leopard cd, put it in, and made a .dmg of the drive, just in case I could retrieve something. Then proceeded to format the drive.
Now, when I try to mount the .dmg, the finder says: unrecognized filesystem. Cannot mount it through the terminal either. I am wondering, is there anything I can do? I am not really versed in the terminal commands so I am not sure what is possible at this point. I would really like to get my data back though.[DiskWarrior|http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html] may be able to repair the disk image, if the problem is simply a damaged disk image. If it's something worse than that, you may not have any luck.
How did you make the disk image? If you selected your hard drive, which was damaged, and clicked New Image, you've probably just created an image of a damaged disk, which may or may not be repairable. In the future, a more appropriate way to create an emergency backup in this situation is to use the Restore tab in Disk Utility. Despite the name, it does both backups and restores... not the kind of thing I'd want to rely on for everyday backups, but it's good for emergencies.
Of course, you'd be better off to never let yourself get into that situation. Start backing up regularly. If you're not sure how, take a look at my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups>. -
Mount error when installing xcode 3 and iOS 4
Hi,
I ran into mount error when installing xcode 3.2.6 and iOS 4.3 downloaded from https://developer.apple.com/devcenter/download.action?path=/Developer_Tools/xcod e_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3__final/xcode_3.2.6_and_ios_sdk_4.3.dmg.
I work on Mac mini with Mac OS X 10.6.
Could anyone help? Thanks!
Regards,
EmilyHi Ken,
Thanks for your advice! I would try to clean up for more free space. I just downloaded one dmg from another website linking to apple. I could successfully install that one, but very often the content in gdb window is empty. Even if the gdb works for some time initially, after loading some specific project, the gdb doesn't provide info any longer :-( Any idea?
It might be the best season in Shenzhen now. It is sunny, but not hot, with temperature from 25 degree centigrade to 30.
Regards,
Emily -

Has anyone else seen this behavior lately? (current workaround is to store locally and transfer to the cluster via Finder)That error can happen for many reasons...one of the reasons that I occassionaly get it is because I try exporting a movie to an external drive that has been formated in the old FAT32 instead of the NTSF standard. FAT32 only allows for file sizes up to 2 gigs. And as soon as it reaches that...I would get that error. I don't know if that is why you are getting that error...but it would be easy to check. 1) are you generating a file that is over 2 gigs? 2) is your drive that you are exporting to FAT 32 (just right click the drive in My Computer and select "properties" then just look for what it says next to "file system".

I am running Bridge CS5 for the first time and I receive this error when attempting to create a contact sheet. "There is insufficient disk space to complete this operation." The image files I am using are web optimized and very small. The error even occurs when attempting one small image. I have gone back to using Bridge CS4 and it works just fine. Any help?
Thanks!I think I narrowed this down to having a network volume mounted with a share name of "Users". The strange thing is even you if unmount the volume you will still have problems. However, if you avoid mounting the volume entirely (from boot) it will be OK.
The solution, it appears, is to rename the sharepoint to something other than "Users". This worked for us. I'm not sure if it matters whether the server is Windows or Mac OS. In our case the sharepoint was an AFP volume on Mac OS.
We had other errors related to Bridge such as "unable to create folder" and the path in the message appeared to be /Users/currentUser/..... which made no sense at all. However, if Bridge was internally trying to use /Volumes/Users (the mounted sharepoint), it would not only not find "currentUser", but it would not have permissions to create that folder either.
So, another possible solution could be to grant file creation rights on the network volume "Users". Another not-so-great idea.
Hope that helps someone else! -
Error when installing to a new server
I get the following error when attempting to install SunOne 6.1 SP2:
ERROR: The directory /drivelocation/SunWebSrv already exists and might contain pre-4.0 Sun ONE servers. Installing into an existing pre-4.0 server root is not supported. Choose another server root.
The server is a new server without any existing versions of iPlanet or SunOne installed on the server. The location we are attempting to install to is its own drive mount on the Solaris system with only the directory "lost+found" located in the folder. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening or know of a possible workaround for this?
Thanks!The problem is that you're trying to install to a non-empty directory. Web Server requires its own directory all to itself. Either remove the lost+found directory before starting the installer or tell the installer to install to a subdirectory.

JRE error when starting runInstaller on Solaris 8
Help! I'm getting the following error when I try to start ./runInstaller :
"The Java Runtime Environment was not found at /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.7 or higher and try again.

Since Solaris 8 already comes with 1.1.8 and 1.2.2 installed what could be causing this?
Thanks!

Strange error when starting tnslsnr on AIX machine
Hello!
I have the following system:
there are two nodes (say, node1 and node2) in HACMP cluster (OS is AIX 5.2). ORACLE runs on node2 and our software - on node1 (in normal state). Also there is an external storage, where ORACLE's and software's file systems are situated.
So, in normal state ORACLE runs on node2 and software - on node1. ORACLE's filesystems are mounted on node2 and software's filesystem - on node1.
There can be two more states of working system:
1. when node1 fails and all it's resources are acquired by node2 (filesystems and IP). In this state ORACLE and software are executed on node2.
2. when node2 fails and it's IP and filesystems are acquired by node1. ORACLE and software are executed on node1.
So, in failover state no.2 everything works ok. In failover state no.1 and in normal state i get an error when i try to run tnslsnr:
oracleuser$> lsnrctl start

oracleuser$
When i edit listener.ora (replace "prdr3dbt" by corresponding IP-address) and try to start tnslsnr again, the startup procedure hangs and does not finish for a long time (it hangs until I press CONTROL-C key combination) and i get a huge amount of such error:

I am sure that there is nothing wrong with oracle's files, becouse they are on EXTERNAL storage and the system doesn't work only in two of three states (in one of states it works fine).'TNS-12531: TNS:cannot allocate memory' may be misleading, it seems to be a permission problem (see also IBM/AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 13: Permission denied). A possible reason is:
Oracle (more specific the listener) is unable to read /etc/hosts, because of permission problems. So host resolution is not possible. -
Network Error when trying to Publish to iWeb
My website was working very well until I made many changes a few weeks ago to my sites on iWeb. Then I had difficulty publishing again until I tried to shut down the program and found it needed to be updated. I updated iWeb and made changes to the website and because it would not let me publish to .Mac I published to a folder. Now, I can no longer publish to .Mac or a folder. I have tried again and agin to publish to iWeb but I continuously receive this Network Error: Publish failed due to a network error. Check your Internet connection and try again.
If anyone can help me that would be great!
Thanks...CCM in CRHere's another piece of data on this problem. I have also been experiencing the Network Error when publishing, but only on a dialup connection. And in testing I found that if I removed the images from the site so that it contained only shapes and text, it would publish over dialup successfully. The original site including images publishes instantly on a machine at another location that has a DSL connection.
There doesn't seem to be any problem with line quality on the dialup connection, and the same machine that gets the Network Error on publishing from iWeb can sychronize to a .Mac account and use iDisk to backup images over that connection without any problems.
So these results seem to indicate that iWeb has some parameters around network timeouts that are restrictive depending probably on a combination of factors like size of data objects in the site file, network traffic and connection speed. It would be nice if a detailed transaction log could be generated that would pin down what is happening more precisely.

Hi,
We recently upgraded a site from SP 2010 to SP 2013. For moving to production, I copied over the content database to production and used the following command to to make the content database accessible in production:
Mount-SPContentDatabase -Name 'WSS_Content_SSBC' -WebApplication 'https://biprod.bljc.com'
I then change the host name of the site from staging to production host name using
$site = Get-SPSite https://stagingsite.companyname.com
$site.Rename("https://prodsite.companyname.com")
The site loads and I can see my content. But when I try to use the "Content And structure" link under "Site Settings" --> "Site administration"
I receive the following errror:

SherazadHi Sherazad,
As the Content and Structure is enabled by the SharePoint Publishing feature, I recommend to deactivate and re-activate the publishing feature with the command below to see if the issue still occurs:
Disable-SPFeature –identity Publishing -URL <sitecollection url>
Enable-SPFeature -Identity Publishing -url <sitecollection url> -Force

Did you previously have the trial version installed and do you have any projects and events on your MBP? If FCP crashes upon launching, create a temporary project folder and event folder and move your projects and events into the temporary folders.
It should launch. If it does, you can identify the problem event and/or project, by moving them back to their original location one at a time.
If it didn't launch, I would trash the application, download and reinstall.

SOLVED: Getting an Input/Output error when accessing certain files
My system started failing a few days ago because of sudden Input/Output errors when trying to access certain files. It was running fine until various applications started crashing like for example Pidgin (in retrospect probably because of DBus crashing). I decided to reboot and now can't login anymore because the DBus module fails to load which in turn means that HAL doesn't load either and so I can't use my keyboard to login.
The error message I get from DBus is that it can't access the file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.conf because of an Input/Output error. I tried to fix/see what was wrong using the arch livecd. Because I thought my problem had to do with a pacman update that had failed before I'd rebooted, I updated my system and I noticed that when pacman tried to access other files it came back with the same error message. The files seemed pretty random, one of them was fakeroot.conf and then several library files like libfaad (sorry this is kind of vague but I'm away from home right now and can't go online very often so I'm writing this from memory).
I'm guessing its a hard drive problem because checking the filesystem for errors came back with nothing. I was just wondering whether anyone had any other ideas before I go and reinstall. I'm going back home tomorrow so I'll be able to follow any advice/reinstall then.

It seems to be fixed! The second run of e2fsck fixed some more issues and the files that were causing the problems earlier seemed to have bad inodes. Boots fine now and I can get into my system. I checked and I still have a reasonable amount of free space so I don't think that was the reason ... I have no idea how the filesystem got so corrupted out of nowhere.
A few things are different, for example, it asked me to unlock the keyring and I couldn't mount my external encrypted drive anymore and had to do it manually with cryptsetup. e2fsck made quite a few changes so I imagine it's due to that. Shouldn't be to hard to fix though.
Thanks for your help!
