Error when moving files between Sharepoint sites using 'content and structure' feature

Hi,
I am using Sharepoint Online 2013 on a mac computer.
I am trying to move files between sharepoint sites/libraries but because the "open with explorer" link does not work on mac computers, I need to do so using the 'content and structure' feature.
When I select a file to move and then select the destination site/doc library, i get the following error:
An error was encountered performing this operation.
Operation to Move '120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf' to '/Ops/internal/admin/General Admin' failed
No items were moved. Please remove 120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf from the selection and retry operation
Please help!
Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate,
If you mean only one file "120207_Australia Post_Invoice.pdf" could not be moved, please compare this file to the other files moved successfully, check if there are some differences, like the content types, fields.
Also compare the source library and destination library, make sure they have the the same type of fields.
And you could have a try of moving this single file separately see if it could help, or as a workaround to download this file from source and upload to the destination library.
Since it is related to SharePoint Online 2013, we cannot see the ULS log for more information, I would suggest you post this issue in Office365 SharePoint online dedicated forum via the following link for a better assistance.

  • Does moving sites using Content and Structure cause issues in SQL content db's?

I would like to be able to use "manage content and structure" to move sub-sites within a site collection (SharePoint 2010). For example I have a site that is right under my top level site and I would like to move it to be the child site of one of
    its' current peers.
There is some concern from admins that this creates a mess in the content DB, therefore all moves should be done using powershell export/import.
Can anyone tell me, technically, what happens when we use the move command in "content and structure" within a site collection and if there are known issues with it?

It doesnot hamper Content DB, all changes are made within the Site Collection Content Database.
using Manage content and structure has benefits, like UI based content restructuring, no support required from Farm Admin. However if you feel to use PowerShell you could still go for it.
Enable developer dashboard, to see what happens in the backgroud while using Manage Content and Structure.
    Hope this helps!

  • LR4.2 - Error when moving files

I can repeatedly reproduce an error when moving files into folders within LR4.2.
My current folder structure is setup like:
    F:\pictures\YEAR\Folder name\Sub folder\
When I'm moving files from "Folder name" to "Sub folder" I will be moving approx 6 - 20 photos at a time when sorting them into sub folders. After a while of moving files, LR will stop allowing you to move files and will show up the O symbol with a line through it. Until you close and re-open LR will it allow you to start moving photos again.
I've had this happen 3 times on me now and is completely reproducible. As above, move a small amount of files from a parent folder into a child folder repeatedly and eventually it will refuse to move any more photos until you restart LR.

    Intel 520 Series 240Gb SATA3 SSD
    Lightroom 4.2 x64
Catalog recently optimised with no issues ever experienced with the catalog.

    Hi,
I experienced the same problem and error message this morning ...and found that the following steps will resolve the error (at least when using LR 3 on a MAC):
    (1) Open LR and rename all the files that you are trying to move by hitting the F2 button, (MAC shortcut)
    (2) Look for any images that may have a '?' mark next to them and resolve if required.  (The '?' indicates a file 'location' conflict within the catalogue, - ie you may have moved the files around outside of LR)
    (3) While still within LR ....highlight all the files that need to be moved ....and drag and drop them into your preferred new location in the usiual way.
    Hope this helps.

  • Sharepoint 2013 copy/move operation using Content and Structure fails

    Hi,
We had a recent upgrade from SP2010 to SP2013 environment. After the migration, we realized that the
copy/move operations using Manage content and structure(sitemanager.aspx) is not working as expected, neither does this give any error nor is it stuck. In fact if I check the content and structure log I find the message as
succeeded but file/item is not copied to the target.
The strange thing is that if I am performing this operation with Full Control permission level it
does not work but if I do the operation as Site collection admin it works without problem. I know if sub-sites are to moved then one should be site col admin but in this case I am trying to move just documents or pages.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Vineet,
According to your description, my understanding is that copy/move operation using Content and Structure cannot work in SharePoint.
I recommend to check if there are any custom fields in the source list/library and target list/library. If yes, delete the custom fields to see if the issue still occurs.
Here is a similar thread for you to take a look:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/56d803d7-8573-4c29-9f6b-c63023941f44/manage-content-and-structure-cannot-move-or-copy-items?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
To copy or move files/items between sites, we need to have
    appropriate permissions on both sites.
I recommend to check if the user has full control on both sites.
    Best regards.

  • Error while accessing a library using content and structure

I have a library having document and folder inside it. When I open the library using content and structure I get an error with a correlation ID. When checked the the logs with Correlation ID got an error message "View 'All Document' does not exist."
'All Document' is name of default view on the library.
When I open the library from view all site content the library is being opened.
    Please help!!!

    Hello Victoria,
    Thanks for  the response.
I have tried troubleshooting steps given by you.
Check if the issue occurs with other users. Use another user to access the library in Content and Structure and then compare the results. --
I tried with different users but no luck
Make sure that the user account with issue has permission to view the All Documents view of the library. --
Yes, user Account have the permission
Check if the issue occurs with other libraries in the Content and Structure. If not, I recommend to save the library as
a template including contents and then create a new library based on this template. After that use the new library instead of the old library. --
No other library have this problem. I cannot save the library as template including the contents as the it has many folders and  files. The current size of library is 786 MB
Clear cache in the browser or use another browser to see if the issue still occurs. --
    tries but issue persists.

  • Help needed using content and structure functionality

Several times now I have had users who wanted to move libraries or lists, etc. from one place within a site collection to another.
The problem is that often, when they go into content and structure, select their source, the only action that appears is Delete, rather than also the copy or move functionality.
Even when I connect to the farm with the farm account, I see the same issue - the copy and move actions are greyed out. The farm account is one of the site collection owners, as well as of course in the farm admin group.
Are there certain types of things which cannot be copied or moved? One user is just trying to move a folder of files from a document library to a different location (from working to completed), while another user wants to move most of the files from an old
    project to a new project.
I am having a tough time understanding why sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

Thank you for your answer. The user did try to use the windows explorer method, and got an error saying that the operation could not find the source.
I appreciate the note about moving the files individually. I have suggested that.
I also appreciate the caution about using move not copy if the versions are needed.
In one case we have a user who is trying to consolidate 2 different sharepoint sites into 1 site.
She has asked about moving one into the other.
I presume that any moving that takes place will overwrite an object of the same name that exists on the other side? Or is there a prompt to the user before the overwrite takes place?
Thank you so much for your help.

  • Problems using Content and Structure to move pages

I am developing a public facing website using SharePoint 2013. The site uses the management metadata friendly URLs. The site consists of a site collection with half a dozen sub sites. I am wanting to move some pages from one sub site to another. So I have
been using the Site Content and Structure under Site Settings. I select the pages to move and then select move and select the other sites pages library. Many times this is failing, sometimes leaving a copy of the page in both sub site's pages library, other
times not moving the file at all. The most frustrating thing of all though is that it never fixes up the managed metadata navigation terms. So I am having to go through and move the term and all it's children that relate to the pages I have moved. Then I have
to manually edit each one to have the URL to the correct sub site after the move!!! Occasionally doing the move seems to delete the term completely from the term store. This is so frustrating.
The content and structure move tool at least fixes up links within the pages. But it really should fix up friendly URLs too.
Is there something I am missing? Is there a recommended approach for moving pages from one sub site to another?

    Hi Vertigrator,
may i know your sharepoint latest cumulative update? i would like to check if this issue only happens on the specific environment.
please help me to confirm, if the steps, more likely:
    1. navigate to site actions->site settings-> site content and structure
    2. select the site that need to be moved, in the drop-down arrow of the site select "move" or "copy".
    3. select the destination.
do this path are also able to give the same result as the steps? http://yoursite/_layouts/sitemanager.aspx
and please do restart your "sharepoint server Publishing infrastructure" at the "site collection features".
as i know, sharepoint sites are not actually moved from one location or server to another, rather they most likely backed up to a file and then the content or site is re-created from the backup file.
    example at 2010:
    http://www.coretekservices.com/2011/10/20/sharepoint-2010-how-to-move-a-subsite-to-a-different-location/

  • SharePoint 2010 Manage content and structure copy operation issue

    Hi,
I am trying to copy a subsite from location A to B in the same site collection using the copy operation of Manage content and structure. Site is getting copied but default.aspx page is not getting copied to the destination. I tried copying the default.aspx
page directly using copy operation but that too is not working. There is no error thrown but the page is not coming up in the pages library of destination site.
As a workaround, i copied the page using SharePoint designer but i am looking for a solution to this issue.
    Thanks in advance
    Ajit

    Hi Ajit,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could not copy default.aspx page using Manage Content and Structure.
I did a test about this issue, and found the followings:
1.When I checked out the publishing page, then copied the site to other location at the same site sollection with Manage Content and Structure, the page was not copied.
2.When I checked in the page without publishing,  and copied the page as the step1, the page also was not copied.
3.I published the page,  then copied it, the page could be copied.
So , for resolving your issue, please check the default.aspx page, make sure that the page is published.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Moving files between sharepoints

I'm wondering if there is a way to ensure that items are not duplicated between 2 sharepoints, so that when a user drags something from one sharepoint to the other, they don't have to be relied on to remember to delete it from the source sharepoint. I thought of putting aliases of each sharepoint in the other that users could drag stuff to, but that wouldn't work for Windows users would it? Or maybe putting a folder within each sharepoint with an attached folder action to move any contents to the other share (that's if I could work out how to do the script). Is there a neater way to do this, maybe so that OSX server can take any instruction to copy stuff from 1 sharepoint to the other as an instruction to move it?

Your best choice would be to either educate your users further by reminding them to delete after copying, or to develop a script that examines the share points' contents and deletes duplicates from one.
Implementing the script is fairly easy: You could use a shell script or AppleScript to perform the task, and create a launchd item or crontab entry to run the script when needed. The biggest thing to worry about is how you would compare the filesystem contents of one share point with another. You certainly wouldn't want to do a comparison by name only.

    Hello,
I am in the process of rolling out office 2013 company wide. I have started with a batch of test users and a few including myself are reporting various office apps crashing with opening files from our SharePoint site. Although at times it will crash outside

  • ORA-12504 error when connecting to Oracle 11G DB using OCI and instantclient-basic-nt-11.2.0.3.0.zip

    Dear Friends,
I am using OCI and instant_client (11.2.0.3.0)  in my C++ program (on Windows 7) to connect remotely to 11G database.
While doing a connection using server name as well as servername:port/service_name as connection strings, I am getting error of ORA-12504 TNS:listener was not given the SERVICE_NAME in CONNECT_DATA.
According to instant client FAQ & white paper at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/instant-client/index.html, no tnsnames.ora is required for instant client. Then why could I be getting this error?
I ensured that only the instant client directory is in Path environment variable. There was a ODBC driver installed on this same host. Could that be modifying the behavior of instant client?
    Kindly guide.
Many thanks in advance for your help and time.
    Best Regards,

    >>what is the exact connect string you are using?
For connection, I am using the plain hostname on which the DB server is running.
    >>are you calling OCIServerAttach before OCISessionBegin?
I am not using OCISessionBegin. For connecting to DB server, I am using the following sequence of OCI calls (in this same order):
    1) g_OCIEnvNlsCreate
    2) g_OCIHandleAlloc //-- error handle: OCI_HTYPE_ERROR
    3) g_OCIHandleAlloc // --- sevice context: OCI_HTYPE_SVCCTX

  • Error when attaching files from SharePoint library to an Outlook email?

I've got a user who's reporting that recently she started getting en error whenever she tries to attach a file from a SharePoint library to an Outlook email.
When she either drags from the library in Windows Explorer, she receives this:
When uses Attach File via Outlook and navigates to the library, she receives this:
If the file is checked out, or if require check out is disabled, then it attaches.
Anyone know why this might have started happening?  I'm assured it has historically been working for the past couple years.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    :)Ben

Thanks for your reply:)!  Mine's below:
    > Whether other users meet this issue
Yes, it's happening regardless of user.
    > Whether other files also have this issue when the user tries to attachment these files to outlook.
Yes, it's happening regardless which file is tested.
    > Please check whether the problematic file was checked out by another user. And Please attach a file without Check-out to outlook, compare the result.
It happens consistently when someone tries to attach a file that is
not checked out.  If a file is checked out (regardless of who it's checked out to), then it attaches to an Outlook email without error.
    > In addition, please check ULS log file to check whether there are some errors about this issue. The path of the log file is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.
Nothing jumped out in the logs.  I pasted them below FWIW, but nothing jumped out at me.
    Thanks again for any suggestions!

  • Windows Security Error when moving files on a file server

We've recently added a new domain to our environment and have migrated user machines onto the new domain. We have a 2008 file server that is still on our old domain. When anyone tries to move a file within that server a Windows Security Error pops up
saying "Your Internet security settings suggest that one or more files may be harmful. Do you want to use it anyway?" This even occurs directly on the server from my old account credentials.
Changing Internet/Intranet zone settings or Enabling Launch applications and unsafe files had no affect. I checked gpresult/rsop local security policies and gp policies all on the client and server side and couldn't find anything that seems related
to this error. Any help would be appreciated.

I was able to solve this by adding our domain suffixes along with a wildcard to trusted sites in internet explorer through group policy.

  • NFSv4: cannot allocate memory errors when moving files

When I move a directory on an NFS client to another location then I can't create a file on that other location anymore:
    [willem@venus ~]$ mkdir test
    [willem@venus ~]$ mv test /pub/music
    [willem@venus ~]$ cd /pub/music/test
    [willem@venus test]$ touch a
    ^C
the touch command does nothing on the nfs client (it hangs, so I Ctrl-C).
When I logon to the NFS server the following happens:
    [willem@titan W]$ cd /pub/music/test
    [willem@titan test]$ touch x
touch: cannot touch 'x': Cannot allocate memory
    [willem@titan test]$
This only happens if the mv command moves the directory over different NFS mount points.
I have an older arch NFS server with a 3 months old arch install, and this issue does not occur there.
If I mount the nfs client directories with nfsvers=3 in my fstab then it also does not occur, so it seems to be broken in a recent update in NFS4

I've tested using a very small SGA and PGA (200Mb and 100Mb), although normally I would have it set higher.
