Error when putting itunes on my ipod mini

When I plug my ipod mini into my Pc which is a windows XP. A window comes up saying some songs can not be downloaded because my itunes to old, but I have the latest version of itunes downloaded. I click ok and it downloads some songs then suddenly another window comes up saying 'The ipod cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-124)' and then stops downloading. I have tried re-installing it and it doesn't affect anything.
If anyone knows any way to stop this happening can you please tell me.
thank you

Try to delete iTunes 6 and go back to iTunes 5.
See if you can play with your songs and no error messages pop on your screen.

PLEASE HELP ,WHEN INSTALLING ITUNES 7 FOR IPOD GENERATION 2 ERROR 1905 CAME UP

let's get an itunes 7 installer log to the Apple engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread

    Hello WGT52,
It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

  • TS3212 I get an apple application support error when installing itunes. It says uninstall and re-install.  Does not work.  same message.  What is a solution?

I get an apple application support error when installing itunes. It says uninstall and re-install.  Does not work.  same message.  What is a solution?

Is that an error 2 message?
If so, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

    Hey there Rodney274,
It sounds like you are getting an error from iTunes when you launch it. I would try the troubleshooting in this article named:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Start with troubleshooting for 3rd party plug ins section, then the rest of the article if needed:
    Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
    Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
    Does iTunes launch properly now?
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post:

Receive error when starting iTunes "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes" I have with no success.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
