Error when running an executable jar file

Hi
I created a java application with a main method in one of the classes and through eclipse exported it as a jar file to run as a standalone application on another machine. In this application, I used a jar file sqljdbc.jar by referencing to it in the application. So I set the jar file's location in the classpath on the other machine and ran the application on the command prompt.
java -jar myapplication.jar. But I get an error "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver".
I am not sure what else could be done. Thanks and appreciate any help on this.

Do you mean you set the system Classpath on the other computer? When you use "java -jar" the only Classpath that is used is the Class-Path inside the jar's manifest.
You need to either use the Class-Path in the manifest of myappication.jar to include the sql jar, or use "java -cp myapplication.jar;microsoftsql.jar TheMainClass" (use : instead of ; for *nix computers)

  • Error trying to run an executable Jar file

    Hi,
I know a million people have asked this before. In the past 5 hours I have waded thru a dozen questions-answers-FAQs that were no help. So if anyone is willing to help a stupid person her is my problem:
I developed a java program using the eclipse ide and it runs fine from within that ide.
I packaged it into a Jar file, created a manifest file per the instructions.
    But when I double click on the jar file I get the following error from the Java Virtual Machine Loader;
"Could not find main class. Program will exit."
My Manifest file has the following text:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Class-Path: swt.jar
    Main-Class: .graphicalUserInterface.AppStandAlone
    <blank line>
the class AppStandAlone has the method "public static void main(String[] args) "
it is in a package called "graphicalUserInterface".
Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Another 3 hours spent trying to run this java application in a Jar file.
I identified that I did not have all class paths specified. So I tried to enter them in the "Class-Path:" line of the manifest file. But, according to the java tutorial, the syntax in a manifest file for classpaths is a space SEPARATING each path name. I have a space IN the path name and java is not understanding the paths correctly. For instance, I have a classpath c:\Progran Files\Java\etc... and java interprets this to be a classpath c:\Progran with Files\Java\etc as the program I want to run.
I tried enclosing the paths in double quotes. Didn't work
I tried enclosing the paths in single quotes. Didn't work
I tried using a semicolon as a separator with double quotes. Didn't work
I tried using a semicolon as a separator with single quotes. Didn't work
I tried using a semicolon as a separator with no quotes. Didn't work
I removed the "Class-Path:" line from the manifest and tried adding -cp param to the java command. Example:
    java -cp %classpath% -jar myapp.jar
I tried all the variations above in the -cp param. None of them worked.
The only thing that works is if I move executable jar file to the same directory as the required libraries. Then I specify a "Class-Path:" line with no spaces in the path names. Obviously this is not a permanent solution.
If anyone else has the patience to help me I would really appreciate it.

  • NoClassDefFoundError when attempting to execute jar file

I've created a jar file for an application that uses a 3d party jar file -comm.jar
I jarred this jar into my new jar and I get the following error when I attempt to execute the jar: "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ColorScan"
where ColorScan is the class containing main() (as indicated in MF file)
I believe this is a classpath problem, however, should this problem exist if the classpath includes the location of ColorScan and the 3d party jar file (comm.jar)???
    I'm running on Windows 2000
    thanks

    PROBLEM RESOLVED:
To include an existing jar file in a newly created jar file FIRST extract the contents of the existing jar file
    use the command:
    jar -xvf comm.jar
where comm.jar is the name of the jar file you wish to extract from. This operation may create subdirectories off of the directory where the jar file to be extracted exists (depends on jar file and what's in it)
    eg.
    myJarDirectory/javax/comm/*.class
    myJarDirectory/com/sun/comm/*.class
create a Manifest.MF file in the directory where you want to create a new jar file (make sure the extracted .class files from the existing jar file, or the subdirectories that contain them, are located in this directory also).
the manifest file looks like this (watch case!)
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: MyMainClass
    Created-by: Joe Developer
where MyMainClass is the name of the class file that contains your main()
Make sure all of your class files (from your program and the original jar file) are located in the same directory (with the Manifest.MF file)
Run the following command to create a new jar file
jar -cvfm cs.jar Manifest.MF *.class javax com
where javax and com are the base subdirectories extracted from the original jar file
and cs.jar is the name of your new jar file.
Once this jar file is created you can just click on the icon and run the app from anywhere
    that's all

  • Deployment error when using several ejb-jar files

    Hello All,
I am having problems with deployment of my J2EE application. My EAR file has several EJB-JARs, one for each entity bean. However I refer to the other EJBs in one EJB. Hence I included the <ejb-ref> element in the deployment descriptor of the entity bean. But I am getting the deployment error that "the bundle does not contain the bean name". I tried to change the <ejb-name> value (within the <ejb-ref> element) to the JNDI name of the EJB I am referring to, and also added the <ejb-link> tag specifying the location of the JAR file that has the EJB. None of the attempts worked.
Can someone help me out on how I am supposed to go about when I have several ejb-jar files as opposed to a single one? I am deploying my app on Sun ONE AS 7.0.
    Thank you,
PS: I am posting this message on several forum topics. Please disregard this message if you have seen/answered this message. Thanks.

    Hello,
Thanks for the response. I have got both Local and Remote EJB References, but for the JAR (where the ejbc compiler stopped) that I have an error, it is the local reference.

  • Error when trying to load jar file (loadjava)

I have been struggling with this issue for a few days. I read all the old threads and solutions online but none of them worked. I wrote some java stored procedures and have been trying to load the required jar files. The error message I keep getting is this:
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: oracle.aurora.server.tools.loadjava.ToolsError: Error during loadjava: Failures occurred during processing. Check trace file for details
I have tried to load them using Enterprise Manager Console and the following:
    call dbms_java.loadjava(' -force -resolve
    c:\javacog\cognosClient.jar', ' -resolver "((* PUBLIC) (*
    SYS) )"')
Any ideas? We are using Oracle 10gr2, and trying to load Cognos 8.3 SDK jar files. According to Cognos, Java 1.4 is supported.
    Edited by: user10406501 on Oct 8, 2008 2:26 PM

Sorry to respond to an old message, I was just looking for the solution for the totally different problem.
Key word 'Cognos' got me here.
I've menage to load Cognos SDK onto Oracle 10.2.0.2 on Windows XP.
I've used simple loadjava script. After that it requires some additional GRANTs, and it works.
If you still are looking for the solution for this problem, respond to this message, and I'll post the scripts.

  • Keep getting errors when trying to open JAR files

    Hi
My son is trying to open a .jar on his Macbook to add a mod to Minecraft.  It throws an error and directs him to Console each time, but Console isn't showing any errors.  Using advice on a couple of similar threads I followed some steps but ended up at a dead end.
The Terminal message I get when I follow the steps in another thread is this:

Any help on what I need to do to resolve this so he can open it will be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Eric.
I am referring to the main  Console.  I don't see anything in Java Console - but the steps I followd in teh other thread yielded that error message from Terminal - it was different from the error in the other thread, which related to out of data Java install.  I have no clue what this is and Google isn't helping me much.
Any light that can be thrown on on this woudl be great
    Thanks

  • Error when trying to execute .class file.

    Hello,
I downloaded jdk 1.5 from the official java website and have installed it properly. I tried compyling my java program and it gets compilde. But when I try to execute it I keep getting the error "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDef Found Error". Please help me .........

It's because java can't find one (or more) of your .class files. You have to tell it by passing the correct classpath to java.exe.
Read about the classpath and java launcher here:

Now when i am running this jar file by using the following command then i am getting the following error..
    C:\JAR_FILES>java -jar docbaseconnection.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/documentum/fc/client/DfQuery
For running this docbaseconnection.jar file i need the following thing in classpath...
    C:\Program Files\Documentum\dctm.jar;C:\Program Files\Documentum\Shared\dfc.jar;C:\Program Files\Documentum\Shared\log4j.jar
I already add this jar files in the classpath of environment variables..Then also i am getting the same error..
    Kindly help me...........

Well, let´s supose your manifest is defined as I did in my previous post. So, your directory base should be something like:
    C:\dir
    docbaseconnection.jar
    dctm.jar
    dfc.jar
    anotherlibraries.jar
But, let´s supose you want something like
    C:\dir
    docbaseconnection.jar
lib (folder, which contains dctm.jar, dfc.jar, etc)
Then you should change the class-path of your manifest to
    Class-Path: ./lib/dctm.jar ./lib/dfc.jar
    That´s what I meant
