Error when Starting from PFILE

Hi!
I am in the process of setting up a standby database. The primary is also in the same host as the Standby.
When I create a pfile from the spfile of the primary and try to start the Standby database from the pfile, after changing the appropriate parameters, I get this error
SQL> conn sys/oracle as sysdba;
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup nomount pfile = 'C:\oracle9i\oradata\STBY\initstby2.ora'
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
But clearly I have connected as sys user... Please help me..
Thanks
Radhika

Radhika,
While creating the pfile for Standby d/b sis u issue the following command on the primary d/b :
- ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS
'<path of the stdby control file>';
Can I also suggest you to refer to the Data Guard Concepts & Administration Guide. This guide gives a step by step procedure of what exactly a Data Guard configuration is all about and an example to set up a Data Guard Enviornment.
Also I belive since you are a SQL Server Administrator , its also import you go tthrough the Oracle 9i d/b Concepts guide. You do not want to be creating a MAA configuration directly without knowing Oracle internals.
If you have taken the time out to read both the Concepts Guide & the Data Guard guide & you are still facing problems get back on this thread.
Cheers...rCube

  • Xperia Z3 Compact camera error when starting from locked screen (symbol lock)

    Hi
I'm a new owner of Xperia Z3 Compact and I have noticed a problem when launching camera. The app itself works perfectly well but when trying to launch camera from locked phone (screen locked with symbol) it shows only black screen with error message that camera app it unaccessible. After removing lock screen protection both camera symbol on lock screen and dedicated camera button works as intended. Is it supposed to be that way? On my previous phone I could launch camera app without unlocking screen but couldn't access any other parts of the phone. I'd love to have it working the same way here especially with the dedicated camera button.
    Hoping for a fast answer.
    Regards

You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.
Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).
Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

You probably need to delete your preview cache.  See here

Rename or delete the lrdata file. Then start Lightroom and it will create a new one, and will begin generating new previews.

  • Error message on start up "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"

Error message on start up "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" I uninstalled and downloaded it again and still get the same error.  At this rate I won't have any chance to use the 30 day trial period as it simply isn't working.  I have see suggestions elsewhere to delete a particular file, but I don't have it.  Any ideas?

You need to trash the preview cache. It’s in the main catalog folder.
Delete the folder with the ending Previews.lrdata
The default location for the Lightroom folder is normally Pictures/My Pictures if you did a standard installation.
N.B. do not touch files ending .lrcat

  • Lightroom encountered and error when reading from it preview cache and needs to quit

A power outage caused my Lightroom 5.2 to shut down without closing.  When I powered back up and opened lightroom it gives me an error "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from it preview cache and needs to quit" and then it says it will try to fix it the next time it opens. I have opened it 20 times and it is not fixing it. I removed the program completely and upgraded to 5.5 AND it is still giving me the same error.  Is my catalog corrupt or something? I had it set to automatically load the most currently used catalog, so it is not allowing me to open or start a new catalog either. HELP!!!

Search the forum, this has been answered many times.

  • "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"

I keep receiving this error every time I open LR, "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and the app won't open. It said LR would try and fix this error next time I opened it but the error remains. I tried uninstalled and installing the app and the error remains.
Any Ideas here? Is there another app that may be telling it where to look for the cache and it no longer there? I was using a ramdisk for a bit but ditched it. Not sure if that has something to do with it but it seems suspect.
    Your thoughts?

Talked to Adobe support this morning, this is their response in case anyone else is looking for help. I'm running a Windows 7 box, LR 5.6.
Gokul: Click on start and type %appdata%, then open roaming folder.
      Edward: ok
      Gokul: Open Adobe folder.
      Gokul: Open Lightroom folder.
      Gokul: Open Lightroom folder> Preferences.
      Edward: ok
Gokul: Rename Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefs file as Lightroom 5 Preferences.agprefsOLD.
      Edward: OK
Gokul: Please check if you can launch Lightroom without any error.
Edward: it shows me a welcome screen and is asking me to select my country
      Edward: aka, register the software
Gokul: You can skip and launch it.
      Edward: LR catalog not found
      Gokul: Please select the catalog.
      Edward: my original catalog?
      Gokul: Yes.
      Edward: testing integrity of catalog
      Edward: loaded just fine
      Gokul: Okay.
Gokul: Please check if you can re-launch it again.
      Edward: yes, it worked!
      Gokul: Excellent!
Gokul: Since your preferences were corrupted you were facing issue so we renamed the preferences file to reset it.
      Edward: aha....ok
All of my import/export presets were intact along with develop user presets. I'm happy as a clam for my $10/month!

Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. The normal location is Pictures\Lightroom. Locate a folder with the extension .lrdata and delete that folder. Then you should be able to start Lightroom again, and Lightroom will begin building and new previews folder. Do not delete anything else.

  • Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.   Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches. " But it doesn't fix it!

I get the following window on loading Lightroom 5.7 -
Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.
Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches.
I have tried several restarts, without success. Also reinstalled Lightroom; no joy
    Any suggestions?

Using your system browser (Windows Explorer or Finder), open the folder that contains your catalog. In Windows it is in your pictures folder and then in a Lightroom folder. Inside of the Lightroom folder you will find another folder that has the extension .lrdata. It will have the same name as your catalog except for the extension. You need to delete that folder, and then start Lightroom again. Lightroom will generate a new previews folder, and you should be back in business.

Every time I open lightroom I get a pop up message saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and it closes. Ive already tried reinstalling, nothing seems to work. Help please!

Open the folder containing your catalog. In that folder you will find another folder with the extension .lrdata, and you need to delete that folder. After you do that, Lightroom should start normally and will create a new preview cache.

  • Help.."Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"..

Can some one please help me with this error message I keep getting.  I was told to uninstall LR and reinstall it and I am still getting the same error message.  "light room encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"..

Go to the folder containing your catalog, and delete the folder that ends in .lrdata. Then start Lightroom, and it will create a new preview file, and you should be good to go.

  • Ightroom 5.7 "lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"

I got this error message after start in Lightroom 5.7 "lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit". It seems also catalog .lrcat disappears from disk. Also preview catalog .lrdata doesn't exists. So I try to reinstall Lightroom without success, I am still receiving the same error. How I can reset Lightroom to new catalog? I have backup of lrcat file, but I am not able to start Lightroom due to this error.

It seems solved. I have copied backup .lrcat to Lightroom data directory and I still have received error mentioned above. But when I doubleclick on .lrcat file in Explorer the catalog have been opened without problems.

Error Message "Lightroon encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"
It says thes everytime I try to open Lightroom and then quits the program.
    Help please--thanks

Using your system browser, go to your catalog folder and look for a folder with the extension .lrdata and delete that folder. You will have the same name as your catalog but with the different extension. DO NOT make the mistake and delete your catalog. After you delete that folder Lightroom should start and will begin building a new previews folder.

Lightroom 4.4 keeps crashing saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" please help. I've tried reinstalling it and everything  Windows 8.1

I assume you know where your catalogue file (the lrcat file) is located. In the same folder is a previews lrdata folder which you should delete or rename in Explorer, then start LR again.
If I've made incorrect assumptions above, sorry, and we'll go back over it from the start.
