ERROR when trying to install iTunes 7.4

I have been trying to upgrade to iTunes 7.4 for the past week or so. Every time I have tried i get the below error message.
*"C:Documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.IE5\Y7XOUHYM\iTunesSetup[1].exe is not a valid Win32 application"*
I followed the troubleshooting advice about removing all components of iTunes and Quicktime and re-installing it, but I can't get it to re-install.
Now i have no iTunes at all.
Please someone help with this issue!!
thanks in advance

Hey,
I've been having trouble updating QuickTime for quite some time and was getting continual error messages. Finally, I manually deleted everything quicktime on my PC and now iTunes won't even load and I'm STILL getting the same error message when I try to install itunes or quicktime.
"The older version of Apple Software update cannot be removed. Contact you technical support group."
Can someone please advise? I have tried everything I can think of, including Windows Install Clean up. I'd really appreciate any ideas you might have. Thanks!

If applicable, disconnect any iPod or iOS device and close Microsoft Outlook.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later).
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (see note 1 below)
    iCloud (if present)
MobileMe (if present) (see note 2 below)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot your computer. Delete any of the following folders where they can be found: (see note 3 below)
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
    C:\Program Files\iPod

Download the iTunes setup file and run it to install. Use an account with administrative rights. This can usually be achieved by right-clicking on the downloaded file and selecting Run as... or Run as Administrator. In some cases a combination of Shift or Ctrl keys may be required for the option to show, or it may not be necessary.
If you deleted iCloud and reinstalling iTunes doesn't automatically reinstall it visit iCloud Control Panel.

    Hi
    Hope you are fine there!
recommend that you attempt to resolve this issue by uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime, and then reinstalling the latest version of each. To do this, first ensure that you are logged in to an Administrator user account on your computer, then follow the instructions in the appropriate article:

  • VBScript Error when trying to install iTunes 7.2 on Windows Vista PC

I downloaded iTunes v7.2 + Quicktime. When I try to install, I receive the following error:
"iTunes could not be installed because Visual Basic Script (VBScript) is not installed or has been disabled. Make sure VBScript is installed, turn-off script blocking in anti-virus and personal firewall software, re-register VBScript, and then install iTunes."
I installed my current version of iTunes v7.1.1.5 on my new Windows Vista PC just a month or so ago and never encountered this error. I have also tried to update Quicktime and get this same error. Why am I getting this error now? What do I need to do to 1) ensure VBScript is installed, 2) that script blocking is turned off since I don't see any settings in my Windows Live OneCare that allow me to do anything related to scripting, and finally 3) re-register VBScript?

    Many thanks.
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Boatload of errors when trying to install iTunes 6

I just got my fifth generation iPod a few days ago. I decided to update my iTunes to version 6. I did this with the software cd that came with the iPod. Everything went smoothly until the wizard was just about to finish installing QuickTime. Then this window popped up saying:
    Quick Time Installation Failed
    Error Code: -3
So I pressed "OK". I was allowed to finish the the installation process. Then I go to click on the iTunes icon and a pop window saying this appeared:
    QuickTime failed to initialize
    (error -2093)
So I have been running around the apple support site for the past couple of days trying to fix this. My latest endeavor involved uninstalling everything and then trying to install a standalong version of QuicTime. That only yielded this pop up window:
    Internal Error 2318
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\Plugins\nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
whatever that means, as well as this:
    Error: -1603
    Fatal Error during Installation
I would greatly appreciate any advice.

  • Error when trying to install Itunes on Vista

I have recently gone back to trying to get Itunes 10 to work on my desktop PC which is running Vista after it decided that it didnt want to upgrade for me and make Itunes not work period ages ago. Before 10 I had no problems, but now every time I try to to install (even running it as administrator) I get this:
    http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/8532/errorau.jpg
This only started appearing when I first tried to install the new Itunes and doesn't appear for anything else. I have tried everything, and I am even running an old version of Itunes on my laptop because I refuse to upgrade if its only going to do the same and leave me with no way to sync my Ipod. Any suggestions?

Someone posted this solution to the your problem, it seems to have helped some people although not everyone:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2475687&tstart=30
It involves working with the registry which can damage your system. It is advisable to have a backup or at least a restore point. first.
