Error while creating back up directory ....

My TM has been working flawlessly for a year or so, but suddenly it is very slow to mount and I get a message saying "Unable to Complete Back Up. An Error Occurred While Creating a Back Up Directory." What do I do now? (Have tried rebooting. Unplugging.)

It's a 500 Time Machine, I think.
This is a bit confusing. Do you have an external disk drive, connected directly to your Mac via a Firewire or USB cable; or do you have a Time Capsule? We need to be sure, as the difference is very important.
When I highlight the external drive and hit repair, it says it cannot be unmounted and does nothing. When I try without it mounted, it does not appear in the disk repair box to repair.
Most likely, it can't be unmounted because some other process is trying to use it.
As posted, turn TM off.
Exclude it from any anti-virus scanning.
Also exclude it from Spotlight indexing, via System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy.
If it's a Time Capsule, can you mount the Sparse Image? If so, drag that into the sidebar of Disk Utility, select +*First Aid+* then +*Repair Disk.+*

  • Error while creating the backup directory

    I bought a Time Capsule yesterday. As with all of Apple's networking products, it set up like a breeze. Took about 10 minutes. I have two MacBooks running on the network now. I set Time Machine to start working on both of them (one of them has used TM before with an attached external hard drive). The machine that never used TM before is backing up nicely to the TC. On my machine, however, I keep getting this error: Time Machine Error. Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory."
    Have any of you run into this before and, if so, how do I get around it?
    Both MacBooks are 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM and running 10.5.2
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Maybe I have the answer for you, TommorowNeverKnows. Somewhere on the forum in the many emails about this subject, someone proposed a solution and yesterday it worked for me. (I'm sorry that I can't find it right now, but I do remember it).
    He (or she) proposed first using Onyx to see whether that solved the problem. If not, then download the combo updater for 10.5.2 and try that. He was unable to run it, however; and I couldn't run it either -- a message about it's not being able to run on "this machine." That might be because the machine was already running 10.5.2.
    In that case, he proposed doing an archive and install from the original system disc (being sure, of course, to save your settings). Well, I dreaded doing that, just because of the time it took, but by yesterday evening I was so frustrated that I bit the bullet. So I archived and installed and was back to 10.5. Then I ran the combo updater and it worked. Then I did a Software Update, and there was loads of stuff to be updated. After all that, I turned on Time Machine and went to bed.
    When I woke this morning, the machine was fully backed up to the Time Capsule with no errors (about 92+ gig). And when I looked at my Time Machine files, everything was just fine.
    So, if you haven't tried this yet, I would say that it's definitely worth an attempt.
    Hope this helps,
    Martin

  • " An error occurred while creating the backup directory"

    Hi all,
    I recently bought an external drive because my mac was just about full.
    It's made by Lacie, model # P'9231... (1TB)
    I got it working, for moving and accessing files (I moved the iPhoto library-and that works fine)...  but...
    I told Time Machine to use it as the backup disk, but TM often tells be that the backup failed. I get this message;
    "Backup failed.  An error occurred while creating the backup directory"
    I don't understand this.  I did some experiments with Time Machine, and I've been able to restore some things, but I still keep getting this message.
    I don't know what is getting backed up and what is not..
    Did I do something wrong? Or, more importantly, what is the fix?
    Any advice is much appreciated.  Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    I'm having the same problem.  I just got the drive Saturday at the local Apple store.
    Have you figured it out?

  • TM Error - An error occurred while creating the backup directory.

    mmm
    Got the TC last Wednesday. Connected 1 brand new iMac and a one year old mini, both on 10.5.2 with Airport Utility updates.
    The mini just started getting errors (Sunday lunch)
    TM Error
    Unable to complete computer backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory.
    Forcing a Backup Now gets the same error.
    Mini is connected wirelessly direct to the TC and can browse the TC and read/write files ok.
    I can see no reason how why this error is occurring.
    TM opens and you can browse the backups fine.
    Anyone know how to get TM to be able to create directories again?
    Thanks

    exactly what I am seeing as well. I had one complete backup before I started seeing the exact error you are getting. I have tried everything I can think of from watching here and spending as much time on hold as I can afford. Hold times to talk with someone who actually might be able to help,that means not the first tech you will speak with but who they transfer you to may understand the TC/TM errors and fixes that work. That means 1 hour plus on hold,almost an hour before the first tech will finally give up and transfer you deeper and 30 minutes to 45 on hold there. Add another hour for them to get caught up with your case. These times are kinda like TC/TM themselves,very slow. I am connected via ethernet and shut down everything when trying to get this to work thus I have lost over 100 hours work time because of trying to get this to work without any interruption. It is such a generic error message it so totally reminds me of windoze daze. All I can do at this point is follow the leader on on the Apple death and dying forums. I am toast on trying and have seen that exact error screen more times than I am willing to admit. I am gonna get something that works as soon as I recover from spending 299 on a new wireless router! Please any of you seeing this error and somehow overcome it please post back and gives us losers something to chew on?

  • Time Machine Error: An error occurred while creating the backup directory

    Time Machine Error: Unable to complete backup. An error occured while creating the backup directory.
    I back up to wirelessly to a Time Capsule. I get these errors often. I'll go for a few days with everything working and then encounter these errors. I've even completely erased the Time Capsule drive and started over. It'll work fine for a few days and then start the errors over again. Interestingly, when the errors occur, the Time Capsule drive can not be unmounted even if clicking the eject button. I am on 10.5.8 but it happened in 10.5.7 as well. I have another Mac that doesn't seem to have any issues with the same Time Capsule.
    Here's a log - they all seem to fail with similar errors:

    I'd be inclined to start over, per #5 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
    If that doesn't help, go on to #C10, etc., in the Troubleshooting Tip, as in the previous post.

    Hi,
    Please check there is no firewall issue between your windows client to Linux directory server. You may be able to login via dscc but when you create DS instance, your dscc agent port might be an issue not able to talk to Directory server because of firewall.

  • Getting error while creating the variable of Schema Element type

    Hi everybody,
    For creating a variable of schema element type I am doing the following steps...
    Select 'Variables' after right clicking on bpel process. IN this window, go to 'Create VAriable' then select 'Element' type. Now in Type Choose, I expanded the my imported schema files. And selected a element type, then click ok to create this variable... I am getting the message...
    IN ORDER TO SAVE IMPORTED WSDL/SCHEMA FILES, YOU MUST HAVE A PARTNER LINK LOCATED UNDER THE CURRENT PROJECT DIRECTORY.
    What is mean by that.
    I have imported the schema files in project. AFter that I have imported them into the WSDL also. Now why I am getting error while creating the variable. However I can create variable directly in .BPEL file then everything is fine. And it is working also. But what is mean with the above error? Why I am not able to create variable through GUI?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I have this same problem this morning, and I was going crazy, until I found this webpage on the internet:
    [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1803/problem-importing-xml-schema-in-bpel-process|http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1803/problem-importing-xml-schema-in-bpel-process]
    The idea is that the jdeveloper is not very good working with directories with spaces on the directory name. If you move all your work to a directory without spaces, it will work smoothly. At least, it had worked for me.

  • Error while creating a new entity row for LoginPageEO.jbo.RowCreateExceptio

    hi all, i am new to OAF i have created a login page and trying to validate to a custom table which had two columns username and password, i am calling function from controller class which is in AM and from AM in turn i am calling function in VOimpl.java file where i am executing my query with whereClause, i am passing two parametere username and password to this function.
    if ((uname != null) && (!("".equals(uname.trim()))))
    whereClause.append(" UNAME = :");
    whereClause.append(bindCount++);
    parameters.addElement(uname);
    clauseCount++;
    if ((pass!= null) && (!("".equals(pass.trim()))))
    if (clauseCount > 0)
    whereClause.append(" AND ");
    whereClause.append(" PASSWORD = :");
    whereClause.append(bindCount++);
    parameters.addElement(pass);
    clauseCount++;
    setWhereClause(whereClause.toString());
    if (bindCount > 0)
    Object[] params = new Object[bindCount];
    // the copyInto() is 1.1.8 compliant which is required by ARU
    parameters.copyInto(params);
    setWhereClauseParams(params);
    //System.out.println(getQuery());
    executeQuery();
    //System.out.println(getRowCount())
    when i call this from login page i am getting
    Error - oracle.jbo.RowCreateException: JBO-25017: Error while creating a new entity row for LoginPageEO.
    Can any one help me out.

    If your requirement is not to update any DB Table then don't use an EO. I would suggest the following for your requirement of validating the username and password.
    - Create a VO that has the following query. Do not select any EO during the VO creation.
              SELECT 'x'
              FROM  <CUSTOM TABLE>
              WHERE <USERNAME COL> = :1
                  AND  <PASSWORD COL> = :2
            - Have the initQuery(..) Method in your VOImpl, that takes the username and password. Binds them to the VO and executes the query.
    - Have a method in your AM to take the username and password as parameters. Make a call to the above VO::initQuery(..)
    - In your controller's processFormRequest(..) call this AM Method upon the submit button action.
    This should work smoothly.
    The following is just for triaging the error that you have. The above steps, should help you achieve your requirement by itself, the below steps would not be required.
    Coming back to your issue. Any custom table should have the standard WHO Columns.
    - Modify the custom table to have these who columns.
    - In the EO Wizard, synchronize the EO to reflect the DB Structure.
    - Make sure the EO Attributes are marked updatable.
    Cause of your issue: Through you are not creating EO rows programatically, whenever a VO is based on an EO, upon execution of the VO query, EO's are automatically created, based on the number of rows returned by the VO Query. So internally its failing to created the EO Rows. On of the common reason would be that it creates the EO row, but cannot set the attributes from the VO, because the EO Attribute is readonly.
    Hope this clarifies.

    Hi Uds,
    are you running SOA Suite on a Linux server and not on your PC and just running JDeveloper on your PC?
    If so try creating the repository file specifying a directory on the Linux server.
    For example to:
    /tmp/sample_repository
    So Choose 'File' from drop down menu
    Enter /tmp/sample_repository
    Click on create button
    This should create the file called sample_repository in /tmp on the Linux server.
    Can you tell us what your environment is?
