Error while relocating (Can't write file (no space)) - Help please
I have been having trouble relocating master files since upgrading to Leopard. The problem doesn't seem to affect only Aperture. I can happen when using Finder or another application to move files from one drive to another. Other types of files don't seem to be affected, just my library of image files.
The copy operation runs for a while then hangs up. The application doing the copy reports an error that that's the end. Aperture gives this error message: Error while relocating (Can’t write file (no space)). The Finder reports plenty of available space on the destination drive!
I remember seeing a thread--but can't find it now--about a problem with certain xmp metatdata embedded into files causing problems with file operations.
Hoping for a solution!

It's possible that you might have a corrupt file. Have you tried to copy different files on to the destination drive? If those files copy fine, then narrow down the offending file by copying less images at a time.

Error while relocating (Can't create folder)
I have been running a referenced library for some time now. I seem to have run into a problem where I can no longer move originals from my hard drive to the referenced external drive.
When trying to do so, I get the following message:
Error while relocating (Can’t create folder)
Any ideas what has changed and how to fix this error?
Thanks
RobertI did the verify disk from drive utility, checked out as ok. I decided to run the repair disk anyways. I first chose the name of the drive "1 TB Seagate" and all was well with both verify and repair.
I then chose "GoFlex Aperture" and did the same. Verify was fine, but as you can see, something is amiss with trying to repair it.
Here's the get info grab.
Here's the console shot, did find something about the goflex aperture database drive, although that is far beyond my ability to comprehend.
I appreciate your help. I'm running to the post office, be back in a bit.
Thanks,

Airdrop receives file on iPad but then can't find file anywhere. Help please?
Hi,
Any help on this would be hugely appreciated.
Have been trying repeatedly to send a video file from an iPhone 5s to the latest iPad using Airdrop.
Everything works: devices are recognised, file is sent all the way to the 'tick' symbol appearing on the iPad and the iPhone says the file is sent.
BUT
Then nothing happens, no file opens, and I can't find it in any albums (photos, videos or otherwise) on the recipient iPad.
I haven't come across this on the forums yet so I'm hoping someone from Apple can help.
Thanks in advance!By and large, we aren't Apple here, just other users trying to help each other. The few actual employees, who are here mostly to keep the forums working smoothly, only rarely offer help, mostly from canned help documents.
A file transferred by AirDrop should wind up in the same app that sent it. For example, if you sent a video using the Photos app, it will wind up in the Photos app, specifically in the Camera Roll. I just verified that it works that way from my iPhone5 to my iPad Air (both on 7.0.6).
If that's not how it is working for you, please tell us the app you are using to send the video, the iOS level on each of the two devices, and anything else you think might help somebody here assist you. (It might well not be me.) -
"Error while relocating" after deleting RAW from RAW+JPEG pairs (Important FYI)
This is not a question, but something I recently discovered that I think will be important for the Aperture community.
Not too long ago, I asked a question about how to remove the RAW files from RAW+JPEG pairs. The concensus was that it couldn't be done through Aperture, but that one could delete them through the Finder. The answer I got (and that has popped up in other threads on similar topics) was "it's probably not wise, but as far as I know, it won't have an adverse effect." I don't think any response along these lines has been able to point to a specific problem that can arise from such a "hack." Well, I found one today...
It appears that if a user uses Finder to "break" RAW+JPEG pairs by deleting the RAW file and leaving the JPEG (and I assume this goes for deleting the reverse), Aperture will NOT be able to "Relocate Originals..." Instead, "Aperture will return the error: Error while relocating (File not Found): "(null)". I ran into this error the other day while trying to change my file structure by relocating all files. I regularly ran into this error, and it was only after some extensive that I was able to narrow it down 100% of the time to the RAW+JPEG pairs I had "broken." I haven't encounterd any other adverse behavior from "breaking" these file pairings, but this one, at least, could be serious.
So, for future reference, I think the response by the Aperture community when someone asks "How do I delete the RAW file from RAW+JPEG" pairs, should be "Use Finder if you must, but please note Aperture will not be able to 'Relocate Originals..
PS This should NOT be understood as a criticism of those who have responded to this question in the past. There's obviously no way to know about these little quirks until one of us stumbles across them. I hope this information will be helpful going forward, both as a caution when deleting one of the pair, and as a possible answer for the "Error while relocating" message.
PPS I don't think I ran across an explanation for this when I originally searched for the error message bolded above.
If someone has already provided this information, my apologies.Frank Caggiano wrote:
Interesting the last post before this one you posted was back in May 2011 Removing RAW, keeping JPG?
Thanks for that thread. That helps jog ye olde memory. As such, I would edit my original thread to read "The concensus I gathered from researching multiple responses to questions similar to mine was that it couldn't be done through Aperture*, but that it was possible from Finder though highly inadvisable." I won't bother recreating my research at the time (not even sure I could, since it was more than two years ago), but suffice it to say that the thread you've linked was not my sole encounter with this problem. I do appreciate that you've reminded me that this was not something I had done solely through numerous posts on Apple Discussions. I imagine I likely spent time reading multiple posts here and elsewhere, uncovering the concensus (which i think is still a fair term) that it could not be done through Aperture*, could be through Finder, but was inadvisable.
*This is still accurate, afaik. You cannot delete the pair from a RAW+JPEG pair in Aperture. Exporting, then deleting in Finder, then reimporting is still not something "done in [entirely] Aperture."
Frank Caggiano wrote:
No one actually told you to delete anyting in in the Finder you came up with this yourself as your own solution
This comes from the critical mistake on my part of not making clear that I was paraphrasing multiple responses rather than saying "Bob told on a Monday that i should..." That is one huge mea culpa and I'd edit it if I could. To be clear, my comment that "it's probably not wise, but as far as I know, it won't have an adverse effect" is a paraphrase of multiple answers to the broad question dealing with how Aperture handles files that have been deleted in Finder. At the time, it was known that you could delete a file in Finder, that Aperture could be made to accept that, that it might cause issues further down the road, but that those issues were unkown. I paraphrased that but failed to make it clear that's what I was doing. Again, my apologies.
Frank Caggiano wrote:
So I'm not really sure what it is you are coming back here now to say? There was no 'consensus' to do this, it was your own 'solution'
In this respect, I think you've misunderstood me. At the time I made this post, I still was not seeing a direct connection between deleting files in Finder and adverse consequences in Aperture (or perhaps I should say my searches did not turn up such a connection). As such, I made this post to provide the community with clear evidence of why one should not delete one-of-a-pair files in Finder. Again, I may have simply missed the thread that detailed that to do so would result in a null error when relocating Masters. That said, in July 2013 I had been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I was getting the null error and I did not see a thread that asked "have you deleted files in Finder" as a way to troubleshoot.
Hopefully, I've cleared up any confusion now. To bring this all back around to my original point for the thread, I intended it to (1) offer a more direct way to troubleshoot the null error on relocating Masters, and (2) to offer a cautionary tale for those who choose to delete one of the RAW+JPEG pair in Finder. There are better (though more time- and space-consuming) ways to get it done, and my original post should help demonstrate why. -
I am trying to relocate all my referenced files from my HD to a NAS.
For a number of images I get the error :
Error while relocating ("filename" couldn't be moved to "Folder".) "(null)"
I have been checking the Aperture Log and found things like:
Jan 5 22:03:37 big-mac.fritz.box Aperture[730]: could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor: Invalid argument: Invalid argument
Jan 5 22:03:37 big-mac kernel[0]: Aperture[730] Unable to quarantine `/Volumes/imacjan/Pictures/Aperture_Ref_Files/Fotoos_Jan/2012/2012 Diversen/evelien.jpg': 22 (error suppressed)
Jan 5 22:03:37 big-mac.fritz.box Aperture[730]: could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms on destination file descriptor: Invalid argument: Invalid argument
Jan 5 22:03:37 big-mac.fritz.box Aperture[730]: error processing extended attributes: Invalid argument
From here I dived into the xattr "thing".
Apparently Mac OSX is setting extra attributes on files, besided the normal UNIX attributes.
So I opened a Terminal session and gave the command:
xattr /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
which resulted in:
com.apple.FinderInfo
com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate
com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms
Then I did my normal :
ls -l /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
which resulted in :
-rw-r--r--@ 1 imacjan staff 39963 Dec 25 2011 /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced Files/Fotoos Jan/2012/2012 Diversen/evelien.jpg
Looked quite normal to me, accept for the "@". Apperently thay is the sign that there are extended attributes
So then I gave:
ls -l -@ /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
Which resulted in:
-rw-r--r--@ 1 imacjan staff 39963 Dec 25 2011 /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced Files/Fotoos Jan/2012/2012 Diversen/evelien.jpg
com.apple.FinderInfo 32
com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate 53
com.apple.metadata:kMDItemWhereFroms 156
Quetion 1 : does anybody know where I can find what value 32 for com.apple.FinderInfo means ? And for the other extra attributes?
Next, I suspected the values of the extra attributes were preventing Aperture from relocating the imagel.
So I proceeded with :
xattr -c /Users/imacjan/Pictures/Referenced\ Files/Fotoos\ Jan/2012/2012\ Diversen/eve*.*
I went back to Aperture and now the relocating went fine.
It seems that all the images that my Aperture cannot relocate, are images that I downloaded from internet (sometimes nicked from a Facebook page, sometimes otherwise) and then imported into Aperture.
I can manipulate them, I can export a version, I just cannot export the original file and thus I cannot reloctate them either.
Question 2 : Is this normal behavior, or is this a bug in Aperture and should I file a bugreport?
Question 3 : Is it save for me to use the "attr -c" command to clear all extra attributes?
Thanks in advance
JanHi Frank,
Thanks.
My HD is a "normal" HD, so I guess it's HFS+. (According to Disk Utility it is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
The NAS is WD MyBook Live Duo. I just plugged into my Time Machine.
I am relocating using Aperture "relocate originals for project" under the File tab.
Ahh, thanks for the answer to question 1.
Yes, I am trying to relocate them, but tried different things to find the problem.
And the problem seems to be that when an image gets an extra attribute (when it's downloaded from the internet, when it is comes from a mail message) then Aperture seems not to be able to move the file.
I.e. Aperture presumeably asks the Finder or kernel to perform this task, and this then fails because of the extra attirbutes that were set.
I now found a way of manually removing the extra attributes, but that is a pain.
Think of this normal workflow:
- someone sends me an email containing images
- I move the images to my Desktop
- I then import the images into Aperture
- I then decide to relocate my images for that project to my NAS
Then is when this problem occurs.
So I just tried to relocate to another place on my HD.
That works fine.
I looked again at the error message.
And it says "could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor" .
So, yes, it seems like it has to do with the NAS not supporting setting the extra attributes.
And as long as there are no extra attributes on an image, there is no problem.
(Not completely true, but I have another thread about that)
Thanks Frank, I have to digest this a bit.
Regards

Can we write files and leave them as read-only
Hey Adobe AIR Community,
Another Adobe AIR question for you: Can we write files to the file system and leave them as read-only in Adobe AIR?
In the future, we would overwrite these files (or delete them and write a new one).
Thanks,
MauricioPlease provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem. The
work around is to edit the registry. If you are not comfortable doing this DONT. If you are, backup the key before you do
Press Win+"R" and input regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"

Error while accessing the application server file
Hello,
When I try to load the data from CSV file to PSA , I am getting following error message
"Error while accessing the application server file"
"Errors in source system"
I gave the right file path
I am not sure about this error message.
Thanks,Hi ram,
if you have more than one application server running in your BI system (see at transaction SM51) be aware that your infopackage will be executed on the right one. Each application server has its own file system and your job need to run on the server your file is stored on.
Also check if the os user of the SAP system itself (<sid>adm on Unix) has rights to read that file.
Bye

Regards,
Jack@Jack – you were using a joboptions file by Distiller to convert a PostScript file to a PDF/X-1a.
What you get is no error message, just a report, that everything went ok. And in this case I cannot see any advantage using PDF Export for printing to PostScript/distilling to PDF. Ok, maybe one, CS5 and above would export in a background process.
To prevent InDesign flattening transparency, you could use PDF/X-4 as your export setting. You cannot use writing to PostScript for that task.
Check including tags for tagged export to prevent misalignment of text because of a strange bug with PDF Export when you are using 9pt text on 12pt leading or text with a ratio of 9/12 for point size and leading in multicolumn text frames.

Can't write files!!!
I need some code or a clear tutorial that explains how to write files using an applet. i want to create a game that you can save on so i want to save it to the server. can anyone help?
thnxthat site doesn't fully explain how to write files to
a database from an applet. can u give something else.Well, it does answer some questions as to why you can't write files from an applet and I thought it would give you a better understanding of it and you could narrow your search into finding an answer. I guess I was wrong.
Good luck though. -
Why am I getting "Can't write file"? from jsp
I have the following code:
public String OpenRAF(String fileName) {
try {
file = new File("http://www.domain/filename.prn");
} catch (java.lang.NullPointerException npe) {
writeError(npe);
} catch (java.lang.IllegalArgumentException iae) {
writeError(iae);
if (!file.isFile()) {
retn = "Not a file:" + file.getAbsoluteFile();
if (!file.canRead()) {
retn = "Can't read file:" + file.getAbsoluteFile();
if (!file.canWrite()) {
retn = "Can't write file:" + file.getAbsoluteFile();
try {
raf = new java.io.RandomAccessFile(file, "rw");
} catch (java.io.FileNotFoundException fnfe) {
rtn = false;
Why am I getting the "Can't write file http://www.domain/filename" from this jsp?
I would like to open this file read,write and update it with the RandomAccessFile api, but I can't seem to get write permissions. I have granted 777 permissions on the file.
Is this a Tomcat file permission issue or something?
Thanks.Thanks,
But I want to read,write to a file in the application Server. How do I get the path correct?
I want to use something like java.io.RandomAccessFile("somepath", "rw");
I should be able to access the filesystem somehow? The only way I could find the file was using the URL. Whenever I used a relative or absolute path, I could not access the file.
How do I know what the filesystem path is on an application server (Tomcat 4.1) from a Jsp 1.4?
Thanks again -

Hi,
Sometimes the server is not available and you can get an error like this one. Usually it works if you try to sync later. If this doesn't work, take a look to [https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/ this post] to learn how to report a bug.

Error: Your request can't be completed right now. Please try again later.
I have MS Exchange 2007 - 2013 CU3 coexistence at two sites connected by VPN link.
OWA and Outlook work fine for mailboxes on 2007 server. OWA does not work for mailboxes on 2013 server, however Outlook connects fine to any mailbox on 2013 server.
Here is what happens with OWA.
Users (Moved from 2007 or Created on 2013) can log in to OWA and see their mailbox folder structure and messages, but when they click on any email they get "Error: Your request can't be completed right now. Please try again later. " instead of
the message body. When they try to create a new message via OWA, GAL lookup does not seem to be working, everyone gets "Error:
The message can't be sent because at least one recipient isn't valid."
I can't see any errors in the application event viewer that get logged during OWA session.
HTTP Log has the following error codes: 241,242,302,401,403,405,500.
I am not sure at this point, but I think 405 is the HTTP error that can be associated with errors displayed in OWA
