Error while updating to iOS 8

Hi guys
so today I tried to update my iPhone 5S to iOS8 (currently on 7.1.2) and after "contacting iphone update server forever" it gave me an "Unknown error code (-23)"
I read somewhere that it was some sort of security issue so I turned off the anti-virus but it still persist. It wouldn't work even when I try to update it from the "software update" option on the phone
so I read somewhere that I could manually download the .ipsw for iOS 8 and update it with iTunes
any ideas?

Did you click on the link just below that that says:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows
You have to read the entire support article and follow the subsequent links if the first solutions do not resolve the issue....

  • Hi, my iphone 5 encountered an unknown error while updating to iOS 7 via itunes and is now stuck in recovery mode and prompts me to restore the phone when I connect it to itunes but then I would lose all my data. Any suggestions please?

Hi, my iphone 5 encountered an unknown error while updating to iOS 7 via itunes and is now stuck in recovery mode and prompts me to restore the phone when I connect it to itunes but then I would lose all my data. I DO NOT have any back ups on itunes. Is there anyway to get out of recovery mode without restoring or recover data after a restore?
Or any other suggestions please? Thanks

As pdroth said, you should have gotten a backup made when you started the update of iOS. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.

  • Error while updating to ios 6 -43

I'm updating from ios 4.3 to 6 and while my iPod (4th gen) was backing up I got this message.
An error occured while backing up this iPod (-43)
Would you like to continue to update this iPod?
Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod.
Would I be able to get my things back if I continue? I don't want to restore it.

  • Error while updating to iOS 7

I'm running an iOS 6 device (iPhone 5) and when i switched my machine on today i got prompted of a new update for my iPhone, so i said continue.
The update did not finish and i got the following message "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)."
I read all there is about error 1, but nothing helped,
I tried the following methods, but nothing helped, always get the same message:
Rebooted both the device and machine
Ensured iTuens and machine are up to date
Restarted the device in DFU mode
Restarted the device in Recovery mode
Downloaded the "ipsw" file and tried to manually restore via iTunes (Alt + Restore)
    None of the above worked...
At the moment I'm sitting with a bricked device as a result of agreeing to this update.
any advice on how to recover from this?

Thanks itsfutur , I did try that, but once the device reboots, I keep getting the Recovery mode screen (iTunes Logo and Cable) asking me to plug it into the machine. and when I do, I go through the whole process all over ending with the same message.
To my understanding, the upgrade did work, cause the logo and artwork is new, but somewhere along the line it did not continue and stopped! causing the device to be in its current state.

  • IPhone 4 error while updating to iOS 5 - An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-35).

After taking over an hour to backup and restore my iPhone to iOS 5 iTunes gave me that error:
An error occurred while restoring this iPhone (-35).
    Anyone know what this is?
None of my apps have been restored, or settings.

Try it again. Or un plug and try again.
Sometimes I have found if the server is busy it will not verify the phone and you start to loose things. If a back up was done before upgrade you will not have lost stuff.

Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

so i hope you can guide me to over this error

From the article that the question was posted from:
    Network connection or download errors
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes can't contact the update server (gs.apple.com)  on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software isn't interfering with ports 80 or 443 or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (go to "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you're using a proxy, try again without using a proxy.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
Error 3002: If you experience this error while updating an iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPhone 3G, please use the standard update or restore process in iTunes (click Update or Restore).
Error 3194: You may not have the latest version of iTunes installed. Update to the latest version of iTunes. If the issue persists, follow the steps above in "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com."
Error 3004: If you're using a Mac, you may be able to resolve an error 3004 by quitting iTunes and using the following command in the command line: dscacheutil -flushcache.

  • While updating to ios 6 my iphone has crashed

while updating to ios 6 my iphone has crashed, and is now stuck on the installation screen. anyone know what i can do from here?

I'm having the same problems. Can't even find out if Apple is working on it. Tried to downgrade but is not supported by apple so error 3194 comes up which is verifying with the apple web site. Which then stops everything. I understand you can modify the "hosts" file to by pass the issue, but hate doing that as it gets involved. May try it if I can't get any satisfaction from apple.
