Error with SAP MDM Server
Hi All,
We are working on discovery server version 3.
After I mount the server and when i start the repository i cannot start it and get the following error
u201CError Starting hp-discovery server (MDM Server) :
Could not open the service control manager on serveru2019 server nameu2019 / Verify that the current windows user has the correct permissions, and that the target system is a windows based operating system u201D
The problem sis resolved when i start the discovery server. and again occurs after few minutes.
Its a tedious job to start server everytime and i would like to know what could be the possible reasons for getting this error so that i can avaoid this problem
Thanks,
MS.
Hi,
i have some problem too,
the server was installed with option in MDS sap existing option.
the config for MDS Listening port as below:
MDS_LISTENING_PORT = 52250
But when i mount the server in MDM console the value in column port is 59950.
i have shared sapmnt folder with the other MDM server which is using port 59950 for MDS listening port.
is there anyone know how to resolve this

Error in starting MDM Server from MDM Console
Hi,
I have installed SAP MDM 5.5 SP05 on Windows 2003 Server.
When i try to start the MDM Server (i.e. MDM Service) from the MDM console it gives me the following error:
<i>Error Starting apmdmd(MDM Server): The machine 'apmdmd' is not Windows-based. The MDM server cannot be started from this application; please use CLIX on the machine instead. </i>
But if i start the MDM Service manually and then mount the server, it works fine.
Kindly help.
Regards,
Chintan ShethIt sounds to me like a problem potentially with either the permissions of the Windows user or perhaps a software firewall. The Console uses a low-level Windows API function to determine if the target machine on which MDS is installed is Windows-based. This function may be blocked by some OS or firewall-level setting. This may be the case even if you are able to use the same client machine to connect to the target machine via the Service Control Manager and start MDS from there.
I would like to help with this problem, but I need to know a few more things:
When the problem occurs, is the Console running on the same Windows machine as MDS?
You mentioned Windows 2003 Server... when you run the Console on this machine, are you logged in as an Administrator of the machine? And do you still get the error when you attempt to start MDS from within the Console?
Once MDS is started, and you mount it within the Console, are you having any other problems, such as logging in to a repository, or viewing logs?
Is there a firewall installed on the machine or machines that the software is installed on? We may have to review the settings of the firewall, or try temporarily disabling it (on both ends, or at least on the machine running MDS), to see if the problem goes away -- then we'll know the problem is with the firewall settings.
CLIX is a fine workaround if you can use it, but clearly this problem needs to be rectified.

Brief discussion on SAP XI and its' Integration with SAP MDM.
Hi,
I have never worked on SAP XI.
I am discussing it on brief, please give your valuable replies.
SAP XI consists of System Landascape Directory(SLD).
SLD Consists of Business System and Techinical System.
Technical System contains all information about the software
component. The Business System consists of Inbound and Outbound Business
System which are used as logical names for data transfer.
There is communication Channel for Receiver and Sender Business System and n agreement
is signed between Sender and Receiver.
Outbound Interface defined for Business System Outbound and Techical System associated
with the Business System,
Inbound Interface defined for Business System Inbound and Techical System associated
with the Business System.
In SAP NetWeaver XI Integration Directory, we have defined the Integration Scenarios,
Actions, Interface Objects, Mapping Objects, Adapters Objects.
Mapping Object defines the Structure and Value Mapping.
Adapter Objects defines the Adapter program which implements RFC Adapter, FTP Adapter logic.
FTP Adapter is used for XI-MDM Communication.
RFC Adapter is used for XI-ECC Communication.
Integration Repository: Both Outbound and Inbound Interfaces are Mapped with Value mapping and
Structure Mapping inside Integration Repository.
The File Adapter takes the File from the Outbound port of MDM System
and sends it as IDOC to Receiver Business System.
Value Mapping must be done between Sender and Receiver interfaces.
Value Mapping is done by XSLT or Java based program.
SAP NetWeaver XI Integration Server at runtime:
Message Split, Interface Determination, Receiver Identifaction, Mapping, Techincal Routing
and Call Adapter Proccess are done.
In SAP XI 3.0 and MDM 5.5:
Step 1: Create busines system as service.
Step 2: Create communication channel for each business service. If the system can communicate
through different channels, then create all possible channel types if necessary.
Step 3: Create receiver agreement between the systems.
Step 4: Interface determination:
- Here you see for the first time the software component mentioned;
there are some special requirements regarding this software component in relation to the customizing ID mapping.
- To modify this software component, the customer needs to copy the SAP standard delivered software component
into its own namespace. The customer is able to modify to create archives
for the customized ID mapping.
Receiver determination.
Configure an FTP Server on the MDS.
Create a send folder for outbound messages using outbound port(s) for
remote systems(s).
Create receive folder inbound messages using inbound port(s) for remote systems.
This ia all about concept of SAP XI Infractsture and its' Integration with SAP MDM 5.5.
Regards
Kaushik BanerjeeHi Kaushik,
You must be aware of File types that MDM Import Manager can Import i.e. we have XML, Excel etc. Now there are two transactions to extract data from R3
1. MDMGX -
- For lookup table extraction
- Output in XML format which MDM can import without using XI.
- FTP can be configured to put the file in the desired folder which will be then picked by Import Server.
2. MDM_CLNT_EXTR -
- For Main table records.
- Output is in Idoc format which MDM doesn't understand hence we need XI in between which converts Idoc file received from R3 into XML which can then be imported using Import Manager or Import Server. For this we need to implement XI Scenario that consists of Source System, Receiver System, Type of Data etc.
Just a basic understanding...

How to find the webclient in SAP MDM server
How to find the webclient in SAP MDM server
Thanks In Advance
GuruvaReddyHi Guruva,
If you are talking about MDM APIs, then you will get them from Service place when you download the complete MDM 5.5 Suite. You need to choose the API which is appropriate to you. MDM comes with 2 different APIs - Java API and COM API as of SP1(The news is.. ABAP API is under development).
Pre-requisite for building applications using Java APIs is basic Java skills.

Deployment Manager Error with Oracle Weblogic Server 10.3.1
I have installed Identity Manager 9.1.0.2 (patch upgraded from 9.1.0.1) on OEL 5.3 64bit and Weblogic 10.3.1
Database:Oracle 11gR2 (remote machine).
**I am aware that IM 9.1.0.2 is not certified on Weblogic 10.3.1 (it is only certified on 10.3),
The installation was successful and OIManager is up and running. Able to create Users, Resources etc. as well.
As part of configuring OIM Connectors tried to Import .xml file using Import option from Deployment Management section as below and the following error was displayed.
"Either your session timed out or you are trying to access a page without logging in".
Did all workarounds like enabling java, changing browsers, restarting machine etc as per the below discussion but in vain.
Deployment Manager Error with Oracle Weblogic Server
Can any one suggest any workaround or solution for this problem.
Or atleast can any one confirm there is no Identity manager available on this date which is compatible with 10.3.1? and cannot be continued further.
Thanks in Advance
Sudheer
Edited by: SudheerPrabhala on Oct 20, 2009 1:26 AMYou are facing this issue because you're using a non certified combination.
Other folks who tried to use OIM in 10.3.1 ended up in the same problem you're facing. -
Using Java Web Dynpro iViews to integrate with SAP MDM
Hi,
I have already SAP MDM 5.5 supplied iViews with Enterprise Portal.
These include itemDetail iView, ResultSet iView, PicklistSearch, Hiearchy Search.
Now, I am integrating Java Web Dynpro iViews with SAP MDM.
When adding the fields using object of ResultSetDefinition Class, should we use MDM Table Name or MDM Table Name Code/MDM Field Name or MDM Field Code?
I think we should use the CODE as the name as it does not contains any space while working with Java API.
Regards
Kaushik BanerjeeHi Kaushik ,
Yes you should use the Field and Table CODE when integrating MDM with any other system using API either Java, Abap or Com api.
Actually this is one of the main use of the code in MDM .In API.
Hope It Helped

Error connecting to MDM server
Hi all,
I am getting the check user mapping error while connecting to MDM server. The MDM Server and EP Server are on different systems. And when i try using the group "Everyone". The connection test was successfull but when i login with that user id/pwd no data is displayed.
I am using MDM 5.5 SP03 and EP SP14.
Regards,
JaydeepHi Simona,
I tired to import schema, but its not over written(user names & roles) by the merging it with the other Repsoitory schema.
I tried creating duplicate, but could not see the duplicate repository in the Console - server - repository, but could see the repository at the database level(Oracle DBMS).
Anyways SAP has adviced to Connect to Oracle DBMS directly and remove the trailing space in
USERNAME column of A2I_CM_USERS table for the user mentioned.
But, its not possible to reduce the length of the username field.
Could you please guide me, if u have any idea??
Cheers

Error Message in MDM Server Log
Hi Experts,
Can anybody tell me what could be the problems if we have the following scenario ?
For an example: Our MDM Server is based on 5.5 SP06, MDM Server name is DFM and our repository name is MDMQ110.
1) Checking the Reports from this Repository MDMQ110 from MDM Console, no errors and no warning. This repository can be loaded successfully and completed.
2) Server Log has an error in message:
Error: Service 'DFM', Schema 'MDMQ110_m000', ERROR CODE = 0,
SELECT LENGTH(Data) FROM A2i_Misc_Blobs WHERE Id=1000
Thanks very much for your help in advance
Regards,
WDHi Kanstantsin,
Thanks for your reply. I have done the stop and repair but It did not help any. By repair, there are no errors and warnings that have been fixed which I can see in the repository reports.
The Assertion Log has come up first with the messages like:
6426 2010/01/12 09:07:08.500 Error: Data_2 accelerator does not exist in A2i_CM_Accelerator_Status
6426 2010/01/12 09:07:08.683 Error: Data_53 accelerator does not exist in A2i_CM_Accelerator_Status
4884 2010/01/12 09:43:30.335 Error: KeyWord_2_F4_Leng_USA accelerator does not exist in A2i_CM_Accelerator_Status
As soon as I run into MDM, the Server Log has come up the same messages:
It looks like not only happened to this repository. As I can see if I load any other repository, there are the same messages in Server Log but only the repository name in the message is different. -
Error starting the MDM server in client system
Hi MDM Experts,
I am new to MDM and we have just installed MDM 5.5 on our system. We are able to 'Mount the Repository' via the MDM Console on the client side but when we try to 'Start MDM Server', we encounter the error below:
"Error starting MDM server: The machine (server name) is not Windows-based. The MDM server cannot be started from this application; please use CLIX on the machine instead."
What must we do to resolve this error? Please help us on this matter.
Thanks in advance!
ASPHi ASP,
MDM server operations can Be performed through Console only if your Server is Windows based.
You can perform the some repository options through Console ,but for any Server based operations like Mounting the server,Start/Stop server etc you will have to operate through the CLIX ie Command line interface.
I Guess yours is a Unix based system or something else which is not Windows based.
so it will not allow you,
Either you install your server on a windows based system to operate through Console.
Or if you want to continue with the NON windows based system then you will have to use CLIX for most of your Console opeartions.
Hope It Helped
Thanks & Regards

DharmHi,
I believe in the BRBACKUP command you are using rman_util or rman_disk command. Please go through the below link:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/25/9fa5ec79fa8e42ba0c71dea91a18df/frameset.htm
Try to run the BRbackup command from the OS level and see.
If you are using RMAN, you have to create a catalog database and register it and then allocate channels.

Strange Gateway Error with one APP Server (WSAETIMEDOUT)
Hello Everyone,
We are experiencing a strange gateway timeout issue on one application server in our SAP environment. This started happening after we applied a series of Microsoft patches and updated the SAP kernals from 179 (DB 172) to 185 (DB 182).
From this App server we are seeing all kinds of gateway errors, the following is a sample from the dev_rd file from the server in question:

I have done alot of searching and I have tried the following things:
1) Checked the services file of this machine, they line up with all other systems
2) Attempted to telnet to other App servers on 3200, 3300, 3600 with no success
3) tried to connect via SM59 to another App server with no success
4) Attempted to do all of these things in reverse from the another app server with the same results.
This is only happening with one app server in our landscape and this app server has no issues connecting to the CI.
Any ideas on where I can look further?
Edited by: James Wright on Jun 5, 2009 10:10 PMHi,
on sappe1exp5 try the following command in a dos prompt:
telnet sappe1exp4 sapgw00
this should also time out i.e. hang for a certain amount of time (~50 seconds) and then terminate with error.
It simply means that the IP address 10.10.0.21 is not reachable from your client PC.
Maybe you changed some IP addresses during patches. Usually there is an RFC destination that is not functioning properly.
Best regards

Dear Experts,
We are working on PI MDM adapter. We are facing below error in PI Communication Channel...
" MDM Adapter listener could not start due to: Can not create repository
session '<server=XXXX serverUser=Admin
repository=XXXX user=Admin>' caused by: Path to object does
not exist at MDM Factory, the whole lookup name is deployedAdapters/MDM
Factory/shareable/MDM Factory. "
Any one please help us to resolve the issue.
Thanking you.

Error with "Managed" MDM Commands on iOS 5
Hello,
I am testing MDM commands on an iPad2 with iOS 5. All commands are excuting correctly; returning the appropriate responses to the MDM server with the exception of "ManagedApplicationList" and "InstallApplication". These commands return "The MDM server is not authorized to perform this operation." along with an error code in the response. What is need to excute these correctly?
Thanks in advance.Hi, we were you able to resolve this issue? I am having the same problem.
