Error writing to file :c\program files(x86)\common files\apple\apple application......... what does thhis mean?

Please help with the error message. |There is more if you need it.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Flashing file folder on boot, what does it mean?

flashing file folder on boot, what does it mean?

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

Navigate to this folder and delete any and all .ipsw files you find. You will have to turn on "show all hidden files & folders" to see them:
    OSX:
    ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    Vista & 7:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
Turn off or disable ALL security software & any firewalls. Make sure you're using a high powered USB port directly on your computer...no hubs, if a desktop use a port on the back of your computer. Disconnect ALL other USB devices.
    Try again.

Bonjour keeps generating error event 100 in windows 8.1 event viewer. It's there 128 times in a week! What does it mean?

    Hey Michael,
That error could be cause by a conflict with the firewall on your computer. Take a look at the articles below to go over some troubleshooting as well as verifying that Bonjour was properly installed on your computer.

  • The last Apple itunes update from 1/24/14 was unsuccessful and I now receive an error message stating that a program MSVCR80 file is missing.  What does that mean?

On January 24, 2014 I received a prompt on my Sony Vaio laptop that there was an iTunes program update ready.  I allowed my computer to install it, I received an error message stating it could wasn't completed.  Since then I can't access my iTunes and continuously receive an error message stating that a file MSVCR80 is missing.  A second message pop-up box states that I need to reinstall iTunes.  My question is if I remove the program how do I locate my file to reinstall it and am I going to lose any of my music?

    Try the following user tip:
Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates
Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)

  • I transferred my music to a larger hard drive and when I went to sync to iTunes there half my library had a '!' next to the songs. After I located one song the question 'would you like itunes to find other missing files' came up. What does this mean?

I recently transferred my music from one external hard drive to another and when I went to sync it to iTunes half my music had a '!' symbol on the left side, which meant that the songs weren't located. When I went to locate one of the songs it asked me if I wanted iTunes to find other missing files, which I said yes. What happens next and what is iTunes doing to find the missing files?

iTunes is a database.  When you import songs to the database, it records the location of that song, so that when you play, or sync the song iTunes knows where to look for it.
When you moved your music to a different location, iTunes can't find it because you didn't tell iTunes that you moved the music.
You'll have to re-add those songs that you moved to your itunes library.  Your best bet is going to be to delete all the songs in your library and then go to File > Add folder to library > and then find your music folder on the new external hard drive.
Also, the external drive HAS to be connected in order for iTunes to find it.

  • "Moving a File on Disk" Warning--what does it mean?

When I move a file/photo from one folder to another existing folder within Lightroom 3.2 by dragging one or multiple photos from Grid view in the library module I see the below pop up warning.
If I create a subfolder and click on "Move selected photos to new subfolder" I do not see the below warning.
After moving the photo/file I am able to move it back (undo)  to the original folder----so what issue is this warning reffering to?
    Moving a File on Disk
This will cause the corresponding file on disk to be moved. If you proceed, neither this move nor any change you've made prior to this can be undone.

I believe this means it breaks the chain of "Ctrl-Z" reversals.  Not only can't you use Ctrl-Z to return the files back to where you brought them, but you also lose any of the other changes you have made this session that you normally could have stepped back through using Ctrl-Z.

  • I have been using firefox on my desktop with windows xp for years with no problems and suddenly refused to open. The error message reads "unable to locate component. plc4.dll was not found." What does that mean? How do I fix it?

The error message also suggests that I unintall and reinstall firefox, I tried that but it does not fix the problem.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then disable Virtualization and reinstall Firefox.
Other security software may have similar features to prevent Firefox from updating files properly.

  • Mountain Lion install error: "Cannot be installed because a recovery system can't be created". What does this mean?

How can I install Mountain Lion OS... I get error message saying a Recovery System can't be created... Any help or ideas out there?

After a week of dealing with AppleCare we discovered there was a corrupted recovery disk on my hard drive when i upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion, therefore not allowing the upgrade to Mountain Lion. So ended up backing up the computer, then formatting the computer and reloading SNOW LEOPARD then upgraded straight to Mountain Lion, then restored my user files. This has worked, and am so grateful to AppleCare for their tireless help with diagnosing and helping to sort this out! they've been fantastic!
