ERROR: You require permission from ************* to make changes...

I've read the previous entries on this problem which describe changing ownership of the file/directory/whatever. I've done all of that and it seems to be correct because I show up in the <Properties> box as <Owner>.
But the message I get about requiring permission tells me that I have to have permission from *myself* - that's hard to figure out.
I'm logged on to my administrator: machinename/user and that's the name I changed ownership to. Yet I get the error: "You require permission from machinename/use to make changes to this file."
So now what? I'm stumped
TIA
Aboonah

Aboonah,
There are standard permissions set to drives when Windows is installed. Usually the account created is given the same permissions as the standard Windows Administrator, which would explain why you could modify and delete about 3 months ago. Apparently something
happened along the way. Here are the two things that I would try.
1. Open up my computer --> Right-click the C: drive --> Click properties --> click the security tab --> Select Users (should be computername\Users) --> Make sure full control is enabled, if it isn't then Edit the permissions to allow full
control. (If for some reason it isn't enabled you may have to log in under the administrators account to make any changes)
NOTE: You might want to check the administrators permissions as well to see if they have full control, AFAIK you can't reduce their permissions, but I may be wrong there.
2. Click Start --> Right Click computer --> select manage --> Expand the Local Users and Groups --> Click the Groups folder --> Double Click Administrators --> Check to see if the computer name is listed under the administrators group -->
if it isn't then add it.
Let me know the results.
EDIT: Is this PC on a domain?

Boot into Recovery. OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
    At the prompt type,
    resetpassword
    Hit return.
Follow the prompts in the utility to select hard drive, then user.
    Reset the password.
    Exit the utility and restart.
You will need to log in with your new password, but your keychain will not be reset.
I’m not sure what access you’ll have to the old keychain since it didn’t have a password. You may be able to get into the keychain and reset the password to match your login password.

  • The past few days every time I open firefox I get the windows' "do you want this program to make changes to your computer..."

    Hello
I would be so grateful to know how to fix t his, because it's really getting on my nerves.
I have windows 7 pro 64 bit. I mostly always use firefox. Whenever i opened a new browser, I never got hit with the windows badge and "Do you want this program to make changes to your computer...." or something to that effect. YOu who have windows 7 know what I mean. Of course I click yes, but I NEVER had to do this before. I don't know what changed, what might have happened. I had to have help with some software unrelated to firefox and someone had remote work on my notebook, but he should not have changed browser settings. It is really irritating me to now end to always open the browser now and have to hear that annoying thing and the badge.
My other browsers IE and chrome do not do this.
How can I fix this? It was never the case before for years.
thanks I am grateful in advance. I can't use this browser if this s going to happen it gets on my nerves.

    You're welcome.

  • How do I make changes to an external drive connected to my Mac mini from my Windows 7 PC

I have an external drive which I learned had to be FAT32 for the read write option to be set in the Mac Mini.  I did that and moved all the media files back on the external HDD.  On the Mac Mini, I shared the 4 folders I needed (Ebooks, Movies, TV Shows, and Transfer).  Also on the Mac, I added a user account "Ephraim" because that is the login I have for the WIN7.  No Passwords are used right now.  The current login being used on the mac is "Media".  With the change to FAT32 I have set the permissions on the MAC to Read/ Write for Everybody.  Everything listed shows read/write.   From the WIN 7 "Ephraim" login, I mapped drives for every folder on Mac external.  So, "TV Shows" is drive letter Z:.  I can access all the folders/drives to view the files but, still get an error when attempting to change a name or move a file.  "You need permission to perform this action.  You require permission from the Computer's administrator to make changes to this file".  On the Mac and the PC, the user accounts "Media" and "Ephraim" are set to administrator.  SMB and AFP are selected under options.  Under Get info, permissions show read write.  I created a media login on the PC but could not see the mac mini at all.  FYI the Mac mini is connected via ethernet.

In addition, I just realized I can make changes to sub folder names and move sub folders in to other sub folders. For Example: I have "Dexter" folder and Sub folders named "Season 1" and "Season 2".  I move "Dexter Season 3" into "Dexter" folder, and I change the name to "Season 3".  That can be done but I still cannot move a video file from an existing folder or change video file name itself.  For example: I cant move a movie file from a sub folder to Gen Pop of the Movie folder, or change the name to my format.  I want all files under movies with no other folders present, and I want the name to follow a format (Name Year Ex: "Flight 2012"). I have the mac mini in the living room and need to be able to make changes or additions from my desk, so as to not disturb people who are watching Cable TV by changing the input to work on the Mac files.

  • ITunes 10.5 Will Not Open, asks to make changes to computer.

I have not been able to open iTunes for over a month on my PC. The problem started a few days after the 10.5 update. Whenever I try to open iTunes a window comes up and says, "Do you want this program to make changes to your computer?" clicking yes or no makes no difference, nothing happens. Also, a yellow/blue shield has appeared on the desktop icon of iTunes. I have tried re-installing iTunes but it does not help. I also tried the "troubleshoot compatibility" option and it tabled iTunes as an "incomplete application". I have no idea what to do to solve this problem. Help would be very much appreciated.

I have the same problem on XP 32.  After installing the new version of iTunes and IOS 5 on my iPad, it deleted everything on the iPad, had to re-installed everything.  The backup option on iTunes is/was not working.
I also a a docking station for the laptop and when the USB cable attached to the docking station to the iPad or iPod, iPhone it does not work.  I have to use a USB port directly on the laptop.   This never happen on IOS 4.xx?
iTunes has many option disabled, can not do backup for iPad, iPod or iPhone, it starts doing it than it freezes everytime.
    I wish I NEVER went to IOS5.....

  • "Check that you have permission to write to the library directory." I had this error pop up when trying to access a iPhoto Library from Finder.

The error, "Check that you have permission to write to the library directory." Displayed after trying to access a iPhoto Library from finder. The file is located on the local hard drive and was accessed not 5 minutes before the error displayed. Upon searching the forums I found a similar problem and the instructions said to check a permission box in the "Get Info" tab. There was no box visible and after clicking the arrow to open the "Open With" tab, the rainbow wheel started to spin and I could no longer access Finder or the desktop. I was deleting files trying to make space on my hard drive and noticed as I was deleting files more data was being added to the iPhoto Library. My question is how can I fix this and how can I prevent this in the future, thank you very much for any help, I would really like to keep these pictures.

I found a similar problem and the instructions said to check a permission box in the "Get Info" tab.
This applies only when the Library is on an external drive. You cannot ignore permissions on the system drive.
I was deleting files trying to make space on my hard drive
    What were you deleting?
and noticed as I was deleting files more data was being added to the iPhoto Library.
Hard to see how deleting files can add data to the iPhoto Library. Can you explain why you thought this?
I would really like to keep these pictures.
    Make a back up now.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it. iPhoto can try to repair the permissions.

Hi, I have the following message when opening iPhoto:
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it. iPhoto can try to repair the permissions.
I select repair, enter my password and I get the following:
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
This happened a few weeks ago and I have been fumbelling around trying to fix it. I have no backup servers or shared access. My iPhone and iPad 'used to' pump pictures via iCloud but this has stopped.
I am adminstrator with open & edit rights.
    I'm using a MacBook Air rinning OX 10.9 (Software  OS X 10.9 (13A603)
    PLEASE HELP!

Similar problem but not quiet the same:
Please bear with me as I am very new to this subject.
1: Using a MacBook Air OSX 10.7.5 and it is WiFi connected to a Time Capsule.
2: Overnight I have done a complete back-up. Checked the data files and all correct.
3: I can open the files on the TC except for the iPhoto Library as I want to check visually that they are there. All 2,388.
4: The iPhone Library on the TC will not allow me to look in.
5: the iPhoto Library on the MBA allows me access and I can view etc all the 2,388.
Q1: So why can I not look into the TC's iPhone Library? Or how do I open that library so I can look in?
Q2: how can I export data back from the TC to the MBA if ever I needed to do that?
Thanks for helping out a virgin in these matters.

  • I need to convert a file from PDF to doc to make changes to it.  How do I do this without getting an error message?

I can not convert a PDF file to a doc file. I have an older computer program and need to do this in order to make changes to a form.  I just signed up for ADOBE about an hour ago. I keep getting a error message.

    Hi subscription question,
I've checked your account; it looks like you tried to place two separate orders this morning, but it doesn't appear that either went through. However, it does sound as though you've been able to convert a file successfully. What happens when you log in to your account at https://cloud.acrobat.com/files? Do you see your converted file there? All converted files are automatically stored in your online account, even when you convert from within Reader.
    Best,
    Sara
