I have just purchased an ipod 30gb and have spent the last few days struggling to install quick time. I have tried everything in the troubleshooting guides on the forum

nothing works still get the same error any suggestions or should I just return the ipod

You have removed QT by way of the add/remove programs control panel and did a search and deleted all left over components, that is very good and the way to remove a program. Now I believe you need to remove QT from the registry as well where the new QT installer cannot write into it, it could be permissions, but I think corruption.
    HKEYLOCALMACHINESoftware+Microsoft+Windows+CurrentVersion
    Uninstall- in there you want to delete the QuickTime uninstall key. With QT 6 it was unvise32qt. In QT 7 it will be a series of numbers that will look like this{3868A8EE-5051-4DB0-8DF6-4F4B8A98D083} for iTunes{872653C6-5DDC-488B-B7C2-CF9E4D0335E5}
Click once on a series of numbers to highlight, on the right it will show if it belongs to Apple Computer.
Delete the key and then run windows installer clean up utility, then try installing QT.

  • Quicktime error code 1402 and 1603

I was forced to update my itunes and now they wont install. First I try to install quick and it gets like 99% done then i get error code three. So i was told to go to www.apple.com\quicktime\download\standalone.html and that would fix my problems. So I went to install that and I get error codes 1402 and 1603. Please help me!

    hiya!
if we fix the 1402, the 1603 will go away of its own accord. here's the best place to start with a 1402:

  • Errors -3 and 1402 and 1603

well, let me say that this is my first posting and itunes drove me to do it!
i've had itunes/windows for about four months and probably used/opened it about 10 times. then, last week, i opened it and was told that i needed to upgrade to the latest version of quicktime. but, as has been painfully and frequently recounted on this forum, quicktime goes through the motions of upgrading only to flash (me) errors -3, 1402, and 1603. let me say that
i've read a number of the threads relative to these error messages and nothing i tried -- neither apple's nor bnoir's suggestions -- worked. i cleaned out temp files, uninstalled itunes and quicktime, downloaded the stand-alone quicktime version, disabled anti-virus and firewall programs, used windows installer, made registry changes, shut down all programs, and sent up the apple version of the bat signal.
i was willing to just call my lost music (fortunately, only about 30 songs) a casualty of a code war but my xeric "earthdesk" wallpaper said it needed quicktime 6.something or above to function (Note: it was odd that even after i had deleted quicktime and itunes [using the uninstall feature], earthdesk still worked -- but then, after one more download and attempt at installing quicktime, earthdesk said it needed quicktime in order to work). since i had just purchasede earthdesk, i as motivated to get some version of quicktime back on my computer. so, i found a site where i could downoad my previous 6.something quicktime version. earthdesk works again, but i've not bothered to try itunes.
my final point is this: it's hard to tell how many of the millions of itunes users are having difficulty upgrading quicktime. if this forum is at all representative, this seems to be a common/pervasive problem. software is inherently tempermental and maybe this is something that apple needs to look at. i'm not blaming apple b/c no product is perfect. all i'm saying is that maybe this is a big enough problem to merit apple's attention.

  • Want to buy QT 7, but cant get free version to install Errors 1714 and 1603

    Hi all,
I was trying to install QT 7.x on this XP Pro machine and it failed and now after uninstalling QT and iTunes, I get errors 1714 and 1603 when trying to re-install iTunes.
I tried the QT installer by itself, will not install
    http://www.freetochoosemedia.org/Itunesinstallerror.jpg
I went thru regedt32 and deleted all registries for items and QT and also all files, still no go.
And the above error message is pointing to a file that is right where the error says, so its not missing.
I have spent about 2 days trying to resolve this and WANT to BUY QT 7 pro, but not if it is never going to run onthis machine.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Don
    17 Mac OS X (10.3.7)

I'm getting the same error messages when trying to install the latest version of Quicktime along with the message 'unable to locate file c:\windows\downloaded installations\{59C4F14F-7590-45FC-BE9F-A67AB3590709}\iTunes.msi
I'm also being instructed to contact my technical support group (whoever and wherever they are).
I tried running the program that Jacumba recommends to no avail.
I wouldn't mind being permanently without iTunes, or Quicktime come to think of it, but unfortunately I need Quicktime to use a training program that I've bought, and there doesn't seem to be an alternative.

  • Problem 1402 and 1603, Cant create key

When I install iTUnes 5.0.1.4 I get this weird problem.
Error 1402. Could not open key: >HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe.
Verify thay you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Then a window with the text:
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
The problem is that I have read that you should do a backup or create that registry, but the problem is...
I cant delete it, or add new keys in it.
    The computer says:
You cant open .cdda. An error occured when the key was opened.
    WHAT SHALL I DO T_T?
    PLzplzplz, someone help me!

    hi drbas!
    Error1905 .Module C:\Program Files\iTunes\ITDetector.ocx failed to unregist. HRESULT -2147220472 . Contact
    your support personnel.
hmmm. when i see strange 1900-range errors and references to .ocx in error messages, i start to worry about antivirus and antispyware packages interfering with the install. (those packages have also been known to cause problems on the QT 7 part of the itunes 5.0.x installs.)
switch your antivirus and antispyware packages off prior to any uninstalls/installs.
we'd better get rid of your current itunes 5.0.1.4 and QT (they may have been damaged during the compromised install). try the "complete uninstall" instructions given here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
then let's try downloading and saving a standalone QT 7 to your hard-drive. (we'll run the installation from there rather than online.) there's a link to a standalone QT 7 installer inside here:
Scott Patrie, "Installation hangs on "installing QuickTime"", 10:33pm Oct 7, 2004 CDT
if that installs correctly, reboot, download and save an itunes 5.0.1.4 installer to your hard drive, and run that install from your hard drive too.
keep us posted on your progress. let us know if you get any new error messages during the uninstalls or installs, and describe them for us.

  • HELP!!! getting errors 1335 and 1603

I've tried forever to install itunes 5 but I can't! Right before the installation ends, I get an error message that says:
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'iTunes.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
Once I click cancel on the the error (There is a button for retry on the error but it still doesn't work) it asks if I want to quit and then I click yes and then another error pops up that says:
    Error:-1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
Ive tried so many times to install itunes and i get the same results. They dont give out an older version of itunes so i am basically screwed with no itunes a the moment. Also when it asks for me to consult to the Windows Installer Help, where can i look at that. Somebady please help me with my problem so i can get itunes back!
    Daniel

okay, so choice of drive doesn't seem to be a factor.
I just went hunting on the web and found an alternate cause of this described for a different software package:
    b quote
This error message can also occur under the following circumstances:
    A. If you have an anti-virus application enabled during installation
    B. If you are running Windows XP and have Norton Firewall on during the download and/or installation
The solution to (A) is to disable the anti-virus application during the installation of the program. That is, leave the anti-virus application on during the download of the LifeJournal demo, but disable the anti-virus program during the installation of the demo.
The solution to (B) is to disable the Norton Firewall during the download and the installation.
    b end quote
    b are
you running an antivirus or Norton Firewall during your installations? if so, i guess it can't hurt to download a copy of the installer to your hard drive, shut the antivirus and firewall down, and try the installation one more time.
    love, b

  • Error 1402 attempting to uninstall PS Elements 6

I am trying to uninstall PhotoShop Elements 6 in order to upgrade to PS Elements Premier 9.  Like a multitude of other Adobe product users and other install, uninstall and upgrade attempts for a variety of Adobe products, my PSE 6 uninstall efforts all fail with an Error 1402.Could not open <registry> key: <in this case> HKEY_CURRENT_USER32\Software\Classes\PhotoshopElements.Application.6\shell\launch.  According to its header, this message is being issued by Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 - Setup.
The single instruction on this pop-up is "Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."  My userid has ADMINISTRATOR authority for my system, so my only option is to 'contact support personnel', which apparently are only reachable through these forums.
Like many others who have reported Error 1402 and similar registry-oriented errors, I too am runing Windows Vista with 64-bit capability.  I don't know if that is truly relevant or not, but 'support personnel' certainlly should know that by now, as these problems have been reported against many Adobe products since 2006.
What I can tell you is that my registry does not contain any keys that are qualified by 'USER32'.  I have only 'USER', no 'USER32' in my registry.  That begs the question:  Why, then, is PSE 6 Setup EXPECTING a key with a USER32 qualifier?
Also, when I press 'OK' - the only option from the aforementioned pop-up - the text in the next Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 - Setup screen states:  "The wizard was inerrupted before Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 could be completely installed."  Is Adobe's Install Wizard confused?  I am trying to UNinstall PSE 6, not INSTALL it.  Or is this just a poorly worded generic, catch-all panel that just adds to an already confusing situation?
I am extrely disappointed that AFTER FOUR YEARS a company with the stature of Adobe has been unable to fix this problem once and for all or at the very least provide step-by-step cookbook instructions on how to deal with it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Adobe support, give me a quick and accurate fix for this problem!  If such instructions already exist, please point me to them, because from my perspective this problem is so generic that it is impossible to nail down with a forum search argument.
    Thank you.

  • Have these been fixed? Error code: -3, Error 1402, Error: -1603

A couple of months ago I tried to upgrade to iTunes 6 and had the problems listed below. Does anyone know if Apple has reconfigured the installation to remedy these issues? I eventually had to strip my system of all evidence of the upgrade and reinstall an old version just to have a functional iTunes. I'd like to upgrade, but I'm not eager to try again until I have some assurance that these issues have been addressed.
    Thanks,
    thad
Here are the specific problems I have...
    * When I try to install the itunes/QT combo, I get:
QuickTime installation failed: Error Code : -3
QuickTime version 6.5.2 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.0.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes.
    * When I try to install the QT stand alone, I get:
    Error 1402.Could not open key:
HKEYLOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
    *....followed by:
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.

After reviewing everyones resolution, here is the one that worked for me after spending 4 days in trying to install the software.
    1. Removed all reference to Quicktime and itunes.
    2. Ran Disk Cleanup
    3. Downloaded Window Installer Cleanup Utility (download.microsfot.com/download)
    4. Ran Installer Cleanup. Selected the reference to Quicktime( ONLY ) and deleted it.
    5. Ran msconfig, went to startup and disable all. Restarted the computer, clicked okay and exit restart.
    6. Downloaded Quicktime standalone from the apple.com website.
    7. Downloaded Itunes from the apple.com website.
    8. Ran msconfig, went to startup and able all. Clicked okay and restarted.
I Thank you all for your suggestion/resolutions it helped me out and I hope mine will help someone too. But, I would also suggest that before you try what I did, read other members resolution too.
