Hi i keep getting these errors 1406, 1402, and 1603 when i try to install it here is a pic below.

Error 1406 and 1402 When Installing iTunes

Each time I attempt to download the new version of iTunes, it says I have an error 1406 or 1402. I have received instructions previously for this problem because this has happened before, but now they are failing to work. These are the directions I have:
For install error code 1406 & 1402:
Try the following:
Start menu -> Run. Type in "regedit" (this takes you to the Registry Editor)
Find the heading HKEYLOCALMACHINE. Click on it.
Find the heading SOFTWARE inside it. Click on it.
Find the heading Classes. Click
Find the heading .cdda. Click
Find the heading OpenWithList. Click
Right-click on "OpenWithList" folder. Select Permissions. Select Add button. Select the Advanced button. Select "Find Now" button.
The "Find Now" button should list all of the users, Select the "Everyone" user. Hit OK. This closes this dialog. Hit OK in the dialog box now on top. This closes this dialog.
On the Permissions for OpenWithList box now on top, select "allow" checkbox in the "full control" row & hit OK.
Do the exact same thing for the OpenWithProgids folder. Close regedit and try the install again.
Are there any suggestions besides these directions that could possibly help me successfully download iTunes?

Well after I do all the steps it tells me to do, I try installing again, and the exact errors come up.

Want to buy QT 7, but cant get free version to install Errors 1714 and 1603

Hi all,
I was trying to install QT 7.x on this XP Pro machine and it failed and now after uninstalling QT and iTunes, I get errors 1714 and 1603 when trying to re-install iTunes.
I tried the QT installer by itself, will not install

I went thru regedt32 and deleted all registries for items and QT and also all files, still no go.
And the above error message is pointing to a file that is right where the error says, so its not missing.
I have spent about 2 days trying to resolve this and WANT to BUY QT 7 pro, but not if it is never going to run onthis machine.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I'm getting the same error messages when trying to install the latest version of Quicktime along with the message 'unable to locate file c:\windows\downloaded installations\{59C4F14F-7590-45FC-BE9F-A67AB3590709}\iTunes.msi
I'm also being instructed to contact my technical support group (whoever and wherever they are).
I tried running the program that Jacumba recommends to no avail.
I wouldn't mind being permanently without iTunes, or Quicktime come to think of it, but unfortunately I need Quicktime to use a training program that I've bought, and there doesn't seem to be an alternative.

I get these errors when I try to install I-tunes.
Error 1406. Could not write value to key \software\classes.cdda.\openwithlist\itunes.exe verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\software\classes\.cdda.\openwit hprogids. verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personell.
Can anyone help? Because I don't know any other programs to get music on to my ipod

Stuck at error 1606 and 1603

I am trying to download the trial Acrobat XI using Creative Cloud and I keep getting error message of 1606 and 1603. Can you help me change the network so the download will complete?

Errors 1835 and 1603

When attempting to install cs6, about a half dozen components fail to install because ot 1835 or 1603 errors. The error log from an attempted installation of acrobat is below:

For error 1935 I would recommend trying the steps listed in the following documents:

HELP!!! getting errors 1335 and 1603

I've tried forever to install itunes 5 but I can't! Right before the installation ends, I get an error message that says:
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'iTunes.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
Once I click cancel on the the error (There is a button for retry on the error but it still doesn't work) it asks if I want to quit and then I click yes and then another error pops up that says:
Error:-1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
Ive tried so many times to install itunes and i get the same results. They dont give out an older version of itunes so i am basically screwed with no itunes a the moment. Also when it asks for me to consult to the Windows Installer Help, where can i look at that. Somebady please help me with my problem so i can get itunes back!

okay, so choice of drive doesn't seem to be a factor.
I just went hunting on the web and found an alternate cause of this described for a different software package:

you running an antivirus or Norton Firewall during your installations? if so, i guess it can't hurt to download a copy of the installer to your hard drive, shut the antivirus and firewall down, and try the installation one more time.

Error 1406 and Windows 8

or how I stopped having sanity and learned to hate Windows 8
So I just installed Windows 8 and like most clean OS installs I have to install all the programs I'm use to. I was going through and had no problems with things like FireFox, Office, VLC, QuickTime, and Adobe Premiere. When I got to installing Adobe Reader that is where I ran into a problem. It gave me the 1406 error.
I downloaded Adobe Reader 11 and 10.14 from the Adobe Website today selecting Windows 8 opperating system. I tried to install 11 then I tried to install 10. I went through and edited the permissions of the registry keys that were appearing in the error message. I used the Windows Administrative account to try and change the key permissions. Nothing seems to be working.
I have no problems running Premiere and I tried installing Reader before Premiere.
Anyone have any clue what might be causing this?

It told me a specific key that could not be edited.
I finally figured out what was going wrong. McAfee for some reason was re-enabling the Access protection when I closed downt he console. If I leave the console open and disable access protection, it works. I have to look into to editing that feature to prevent this from happening again.

Error 1606 and 1603

Help, I've have unistalled itunes and now can't reinstall. I keep getting error 1606, couldn't find network location and then error 1603 fatal error during installation. I have tried to empty my temp directory and restart, downloaded latest windows updates, cleaned up itunes installer. Any ideas on what to do now?

hmmm. we treat that chain by dealing with the 1606. i think you might have already found the general advice given here:

Error 1316 and 1603

I have updated everything uninstall and install again and again, I have used the windows clean up thing and that did not work,anybody have anything else to try. I would just like to get my old version back so I can at least listen to my itunes.

Quicktime error code 1402 and 1603

I was forced to update my itunes and now they wont install. First I try to install quick and it gets like 99% done then i get error code three. So i was told to go to www.apple.com\quicktime\download\standalone.html and that would fix my problems. So I went to install that and I get error codes 1402 and 1603. Please help me!

After installing the latest itunes upgrade and then having to install Quicktime 7 stand alone I get Error 1406 & 1603 when trying to install quicktine version 7.
My itunes no longer opens stating i do not have the latest version of Quicktime!!!

what key is your current version of the error citing, Derek?

Error 1406 when Installing VPN Client

I am attempting to install a VPN client on a customers computer and getting
"Error 1406" and that it doesn't have the ability to access certain registry keys.
I am logged in as an administrator in Windows 7 64 bit.
What could be causing this problem? What are possible solutions?
Any help would be appreciated.

Neville;
There is a limit to the number of entries in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs key, at least on Win95. By removing some other entries, the problem will probably be solved.
