Errors burning DVD disks

My drive has worked faultlessly since I got the PowerMac and continues to do so for CDR's however I tried to backup around 1.5Gb recently and got and error. I have also had an error burning an ISO image. The error seems to occur arouns a third of the way in. I have had no problem burning films via iDVD in the past but I have not tried one (I will do so after this post).
I have tried from mounting in finder (data dvd), disk utility (iso) and Toast (data dvd and toast). The errors are:
Disk Utility
Unable to burn
"mydvd.iso" - The device failed to calibrate
Roxio Toast Titanium
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
followed by
The drive reported an error:
Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
Sense Code = 0x21, 0x02
BUFFER UNDERRUN
the DVD-R disks used are the ones I have always used as I bought in bulk some 18 months back.

If you've got Toast 7, do a Disc Info and see what the media code is on the discs you have. This tells who manufactured it. As you can see from this site, Imation uses many different manufacturers, many of which are not of high quality.
If you don't have Toast 7, you can download and use DVD Media Inspector to view the media code on the disc (it's just harder to read than Toast's display).
I would also surmise that the discs could have deteriorated in the 18 months you've had them, especially depending on how they've been stored.

  • Creating/Burning DVD Disk Images

I'm trying to backup a (commercial) language instruction DVD that my 2-year-old daughter uses (and scratches) often.
I ripped it to my hard drive with MacTheRipper and DVD Player is able to play the resulting VIDEO_TS folder. So, far, so good.
Now, I need to burn a DVD of the ripped files.
What software do you recommend for creating the DVD disc image and burning it to a DVD?
    Thanks.

I am attempting to do the same thing; i.e., I have a TS folder on my desktop and I'm trying to make a DVD that will play in a DVD player.
I've tested the TS folder by launching it in DVD Player and it plays beautifully with sound. Now I would like to burn this to a DVD.
I've attempted to use DVD Imager, but all I get is an error message that the TS folder is not found after dragging it to the icon. I've moved the folder around to different places (home drive, user etc), but still DVD Imager doesn't seem to find it, even though the path is recognized in the software.
I also followed the steps in the ken stone article and successfully created a .cdr file by following these steps:
    a. Created a folder named VISIONS (the name of the home made movie)
    b. Placed the TS_Video folder inside of the VISIONS folder
    c. Used Disk Utility to create a .cdr
    selected File>New>Disc Image from Folder
selected VISIONS folder (with TS_Video folder inside)
    selected CD/DVD Master
    selected Encryption None
    d. VISIONS.cdr created on desktop
    e. Used Disk Utility to create DVD
highlighted VISIONS.cdr in left in Disk Utility
    Burned to DVD
The DVD created was not recognized by my DVD player, nor would it play on my MAC - the computer wouldn't even recognize it.
Do I need to also place an empty AUDIO_TS folder inside the VISIONS folder along with the VIDEO_TS folder?
Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

  • Error burning DVD

hi there. wondering if you have any advice...
i've been trying to burn a DVD from iDVD, there is an iMovie and a slideshow that i'm trying to burn. it keeps giving me the error message:
'The application idvd has unexpectedly quit. The system and other applications have not been affected.'
    i'm using a DVD-R disc, 8x
we have a G5, OS X 10.3.9, 1.8GHz, 256 MB, and i'm not sure where it tells me how much free disc space i have, but i'm sure there is plenty.
    iDVD is version 4.0.1
when i double click 'burn' it asks for a blank DVD, so i put one in, then it says looking for... ? something... then it starts to burn. it takes about 20 minutes and then gives me the above error message. any ideas before i throw it out the window
    thanks.

First off, if you do not know how to check how much hard drive space you have free, how could you possibly know you have plenty?
My standard list of things to do first for these weird sort of problems, but I also tend to run these before I go to burn an iDVD project just to be safe. Keep in mind this list represents the programs I tend to use. I am running Panther (10.3.9) so Tiger users might want to check the below list for compatibility. There are several alternate programs that do the same things with some combining the functions of some of the ones below. So everyone has their favorites, but here are mine...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system, especially any external drives that you use for iMovie and iDVD projects.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac (after running Cache Out X you are given the option to restart the machine).
If you still can not get it to run correctly, next thing to try is to throw out the iMovie preference file (don't forget to change back those preferences you want different from the defaults next time you run it). If it still doesn't work, then I would suggest you reinstall iMovie.

  • Error Burning DVD-R

Hi, I am a new user here. I did read a few discussions on this topic but didn't find anything conclusive except that I should keep trying different media until one is successful.
I used Toast Titanium to try and copy a DVD - everything went slow but good until 47 seconds were left in completion. (after almost 1 hr of copying and then writing). I got the following:
    The disk reported an error:
    Sense key = Hardware Error
Sense Code = 0x03,0x01 I hit OK, then got:
    The disk reported an error:
    Sense Key = Illegal Request
    Sense Code = 0x30,0x05
Cannot write medium - incompatible format
I can't afford to keep buying different types of disk and wondering when I'll hit on the right answer.
Does anyone know a solution? Is something seriously wrong with my hardware(over $5000) ?
Thanks for any suggestions and help.

You won't have a problem making your own and burning them.
We have no clue how and with what software was used in burning the movie you tried to copy, it does sound like the encryption and security may be the problem, it's hard to tell without doing a little testing.
If commercial DVD movies are to be done it is more complicated than just stick it in and copy.
Most are over 7gb and besides reading encryption and security. Mactheripper is needed.
Then you need software to re compress to fit on a standard 4.7gb disc.
    So you need Mactheripper..
And then you can choose Roxio's Popcorn or Toast 7..
This only requires 2 pieces of software.
It can also be done with 3...Don

  • Error Burning DVD -- IDVD '06

I am having trouble burning a DVD. The Error message:
    The error #-2147352509 was reported…
    appears.
Could someone please tell me what this means? I have searched all forums.
    Many thanks,
    Andrew

    Welcome to discussions.
Be certain to use good DVD media.
You may want to try using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R 4X.
Also, save the project as a disk image and burn it as slowly as possible with either the disk utility or Toast™.

  • Laser Calibration Level error burning DVDs

I am having a problem burning data DVDs. I get an error that the laser levels cannot be calibrated. I have tried Memorex and Verbatim DVD-Rs, which worked well previously. I have run disk utility from the install disk and repaired permissions. I have even tried that strange fix where you rearrange the order of the languages in the International section in the systems preferences. Is there anything anyone can suggest?

Thank you for your help. I have tried all your suggestions, and it looks like my last option is to replace the drive. It is the original superdrive that came with the computer. At least they are not too expensive!
    Thanks again!

  • Sense Error burning DVD disc in Toast

    HI there,
I'm trying to burn an ISO (DVD R disc) using Roxio's Toast Titanium and no matter what brand of disc I use, I keep getting "The drive reported an error: Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03.
    I'm using a 2008 15inch MacBook Pro, running OSX 10.8.5

    hope this is enough info
    thanks in advance

This reply is late, and I hope your issue was solved, but here is what I did when getting the error "Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03" repeatedly when trying to burn a DVD in Toast:
    Researched the web for help.
Ran Disc Utility off of system installer CD to no avail.
Deleted Toast pref file from library – no luck with this.
Wrapped credit card in eyeglass cleaning cloth and inserted several times into SuperDrive (iMac Intel Core Duo machine) – voilà! Successful burning!

  • Error burning DVD: Access failed

When trying to burn a project to DVD in Premiere Elements 9, I get an error message that reads "Access failed: Unable to access location Sequence 01\ for creating temporary burning files."  I assume I need to change something either in Premiere Elements or on my PC but I don't know what.  Any recommendations?

OK, that shows that there is some problem with your I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's. Could be as simple as just some permissions, etc., in the OS, or could well be something else.
Can you list the full details of your HDD's, their size, speed, controller type, amount of free-space on each, and how you have them allocated?
Also, what is your OS? If Windows, please let us know the version and also whether it's 32-bit, or 64-bit.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Crosswise errors burning DL disks

Sometimes there were errors in the past, going away by happenstance. TodayI lost at leased six or seven blanks; error code was sometimes the known 0x80020022
I tried the internal drive of my old PB and an external drive by two cpus. Coincident error? So suddenly?
Tried with the burner from File menu and worked with Toast (8 and 11).
I use for DL Verbatim blanks, because I can not find Memorex; for Verbatim I spend three hours to get it. In former times I got the best blanks by apple, but there are no one in the shop anymore.
What is the recently earned knowledge about burning with MBP?
    Thanks in advance,
    Karl

How to find what error 0x80020022 means?

  • Can't burn DVD but image plays just fine in Apple DVD player

I can make a DVD and save it as an image, which DVD player will play flawlessly. I just can't burn it to a DVD. It fails continuously. Maybe it's my media? Can anyone recommend media known to work well in a MacBook Pro (last version)? Any other suggestions? thanks.

It is easy to burn from a disk image, and it is better because all the media needed is already within the disk image file. It doesn't have to search, locate and pull in the media for the burn. There are many places for errors to occur. If you have successfully created a disk image file, just burn from that.
Also, a disk image file is self-contained. You can safely delete both the original iDVD project and the original iMovie used to make it if you are finished editing them. Because the disk image file is small, you will save drive space. You can also burn a new DVD disk of that project any time in the future, without having to remember if you moved the original media, or renamed anything used in that project. Of course, you cannot edit a disk image, but you can't edit a burned DVD disk either.
Many users here report that DVD-R disks are better and play in more types of set-top players. Others think DVD+R disks work fine. I always use Verbatim DVD-R, burn at 4x or less, create a disk image file of all my iDVD projects and I have never had a burn issue.

  • How to copy to DVD disk

I have searched through the forums, read many other related posts related to this subject, and studied the manuals and tutorials, however I have not been able to figure out how to do the basic DVD burning. I apologize if this seems to be a simple task to many of you.
I would like to copy You Tube videos to DVD. These are instructional videos, such as how to make sushi, and the like. I'd like to record various episodes on disks and categorize the contents, so I would have them readily available.
I would also like to copy my bookmark menu to DVD.
Basically, I just want to know how to burn DVD disks for various purposes.
I have a iMac, Snow Leopard OS, and have DVD-R.
    Thanks for your help.

  • FCP X version 10.1.1.  When Sharing to DVD I get the following alert " There was an error burning your discd.  Not enough Disk Space in Target Folder"  I have 700GB   free.  Where is this target folder located?  how can I fix this problem? not space prob

Sharing to DVD I get the following alert " There was an error burning your disc.  Not enough Disk Space in Target Folder"  I have 700GB   free.  Where is this target folder located?  How can I fix this problem? This is definitely not a space problem.
Since starting with FCP X, there has been tons of issues, now that the product actually works with the exception above, makes it impossible to share the production.  Has Apple fixed this problem.  is there a knowledge base article on this?
On another note, One reason I have not purchased support on FCP X is because you sold a product that never worked for almost an entire year or more.   Now I can finally finish my project,  I cannot share it.....Really.  This has to be fixed now, I am loosing money as I typed this.
    Regards,
    Rob Harris

Just curious, why would repairing permissions, rebooting ( rebooted 2 times already today) or creating a new user possibly fix this.
I cannot create a new user, that is way too much work.  I will repair permissions again,  I repaired permissions just a few days ago. Then I will reboot, login and turn off App Nap and rerun the Share DVD.
There must be something seriously wrong with the OS if your are suggesting creating another user.   WOW!

  • When trying to burn files to a DVD (DVD RDL from Memorex) an error message appears saying: Impossible to burn the disk because communication failed between disk player and computer (error code 0x80020022)

When trying to burn files (1,7 GB) to a Memorex DVD, an error messge says: Impossible to burn the disk because communication between disk player and computer failed (error code #  0x80020022).
Is the Memorex incompatible with my i-Mac or what could it be ?
    My i-Mac is a 21", Core 2 Duo with 3.06 GHz. RAM is 8Go 1067MHz DDR3.
    Thanks.

That message is usually caused by poor media. i.e. poor coating quality.
Mermorex is generally regarded by most users here as poor quality media. So is TDK. Most of us prefer Verbatim, Fuji, Maxell or Taiyu Yuden DVD-R.
Also burn at only 2x or 4x burn speed.

  • Error code 0x8002006E when trying to burn photos to a dvd disk. Please help.

Im trying to burn photos to a DVD so my friend can view my pictures on their windows computer. There is only 371 pictures for a total of 1.72G of space. It starts to burn them, and then in the middle of the process I get an error code 0x8002006E and it stops, wasting my disk (I assume because the computer no longer recognizes it afterwards). So, I am now down by two DVD disks. What I did was, I made a folder on my desk-top and placed my photos in it from iPhoto '11. I did this because it said that's how to do it if you want your friend to be able to view them on a windows computer. Then, I closed iPhoto and right click on my folder (on my desk-top with the pics in it) and click burn.

What speed are you burning at and what brand/type of DVD disk are you using?  Are you able to burn a CD?
It could be a dirty laser in the optical drive.  Get a disk cleaning disk, one with dry brushes - no liquids and use it to clean your optical drive. Burn at the slowest speed available, 2X - 4X.  Use quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums

  • Error when burning DVD

I just bought a Mac a few weeks ago, and have had some trouble burning DVD's. I have a G5 running 10.3.9, with a Pioneer Superdrive. I try to burn an image in Disk Utility, but get the error message "The disc is reserved for exclusive use by another application". When I try just burning files using finder, it says "This disc cannot be used". I have tried DVD-R and DVD+R. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi macaboo
    Welcome to apple discussions. Just to add to the already excellent advice kindly provided to you by Fred Shippey;
I too have one or two suggestions:
First is to delete the plist for iDvd (but first quit the app). The plist is located in your preferences folder and looks like this (assuming the app has been launched at least once):
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Now try your iDvd project again. But if that too fails then ...
Delete encoded assets from the Advanced menu tab and then try the burn again.
That procedure looks like this. Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.
