Errors in ThinkPad Bios and Thinkvantage Software

I have been using my ThinkPad T61 model 7664-A24 for almost 6 months now and have noticed quite a few errors in the bios and Thinkvantage software.
1. Bios:
Security>Passwords>Passphrase is grayed out and has no functionality.
2. Bios:
Security>Passwords>Password Reset Service: The instructions in the description window to the right tell us to go to 'Create Recovery Media' in Windows>ThinkVantage and set up password reset service to recover power-on or hard disk password in case of loss. However there is no such thing in Thinkvantage>Create Recovery Media.
3. Predesktop Rescue and Recovery workspace:
The documentation when you click 'Configuration Overview'  relating to setting up a password to protect the Rescue and Recovery predesktop environment is wrong - Method 1 and Method 3 of creating this password in Client Security Solution and Rescue and Recovery respectively do not exist.
While these errors do not impede the functionality the ThinkPad, I wish Lenovo would tighten up the screws. I can't understand how such a big company could be so sloppy. The bios should not have any dependency on external software but here some bios functions are dependent on RnR in Windows? I've tried removing the RnR and CSS program but the bios 'Password Reset Service' option remains. I hope Lenovo issues updates to fix these errors.
I will mention more errors in the lenovo software in this thread as I find them.

Please double check if your Network Connection settings in Eclipse Preferences are correct. See SAP HANA Cloud Platform for more detailed info.

  • ALC java permissions error is not sticking and antivirus software.

    What is an ALC in my permissions? 
    Everytime I run Repair permissions in disk utility, I retrieve the following:
    Permissions differ on “Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are drwxr-xr-x .
    Repaired “Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin”
    ACL found but not expected on “private/var/root/Library”
    Repaired “private/var/root/Library”
    ACL found but not expected on “private/var/root/Library/Preferences”
    Repaired “private/var/root/Library/Preferences”
    I know Mac used to not need antivirus software?  Now that the Internet (and human knowledge of it) is more advanced, should an ameture like me get antivirus software?  If so which one? 
    Or, are there special settings I can use in the OS 10.8.4 software  that will better protect my information and hardware?

    Topher, I've seen numerous instances reported by users here of the repeating ACL found but not expected. I can understand if this happened only for several peope, but with so many I think this may need to be understood better.
    Also, ran sudo fs_usage | grep chmod, while running some other commands from another window from sudo (sudo newsyslog -F /var/log/system.log.) What am I actually seeing here? I'm seeing the chmod, but there are no details about what exactly is happening to the permissions of these files, if anything. I let it run only for a few minutes. If these had been modified, why wouldn't I be seeing evidence of that, which I never do, when running Permissions repair afterward? Just getting the usual repeating Java stuff. Or what am I not understanding here?

  • Bought an X60 off ebay with no thinkvantage software help???

    As the title says I bought an x60 thinkpad from ebay and they obviously had formatted the hard drive and just put a fresh xp install on. I would like to activate the ThinkVantage feature incase I need to recover the system. I am completely out of my depth here so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    You can begin by downloading ThinkVantage System Update software, which will examine your installation of Microsoft Windows and download any missing device drivers and ThinkVantage software when run.

  • II have downloaded several Apps that state they work with iTouch but they will not install and give error message that I need updated software, while all my updates available are installed on both iTouch and my computer iTunesWhy will Mindtools app not

    My iPod Touch will not function with certain updated apps ie MindTools, YP.com, Mint, Ymessenger etc and I get the error message that I need to install updated software to load these apps to my iPod Touch; however, I have double checked and all the software updates have been loaded in obht the iPod touch and my computer. There are no updates availabe; yet the error message on App is a software update is required for App. "was not installed because it requires a newer version of iPod software."
    The iPod Touch is using 3.1.3 software and it tells me that is the current and updated software version.

    You are correct in that your 1G iPod Touch has all the latest software updates.  It can only be updated to version 3.1. 
    However that Apps you are trying to download and install likely require iOS version 4.0 or later, which is not compatible with your iPod Touch.  So either you'll need to buy a newer iPod Touch or find other Apps that are suitable replacements if possible.

    All iPhones sold in Japan are sold carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked by the carrier. If you unlocked it, it was by unauthorized means (hacked), and support cannot be given to you in this forum.
    Hacked iPhones are subject to countermeasures by Apple, particularly when updating the firmware. It is likely permanently re-locked or permanently disabled.

    How do i restore my iphone when it has been disabled and cannot be restored through itunes because of the error message that says "The iphone software update server could not be contacted

    Have you jailbroken this device? This will make the iPhone not talk to the Software Update Server (that signs and accepts software updates) please refer to the following link? Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
    The iPhone will talk to the software update servers, just need to change the host files, it's a simple process, sorry if you were confused about the wording in to top?

    Hello Everyone,
    I am a regular user of I-tunes but recently i dont know why but I got some error in Launching I-tunes. So as recomonded by "Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7" section. I started removing the products. But after removing Quick time, I tried to remove Apple Software Update but while uninstalling it gave error that "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." and the uninstall rollbacks.
    Please send me a feasible solution to this problem.

    Uninstalling the iCloud control panel should allow you to do that folder deletion.

  • Lenovo toolbox and fingerprint software stopped working on Thinkpad W700 Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

    After installing Lenovo Updates an unknown USB device appeared in device manager. Per the instructions of a Lenovo support person I performed a system restore to a time prior to the updates. After doing that the Lenovo Toolbox and Fingerprint software would no longer work. I tried another system restore back to the latest date and that did not solve the problem. I also tried reinstalling both the Toolbox and the finger print software and they still won't work. When I try to launch either of those apps I get an error message saying that they have stopped working and that the system was checking online for a solution, with no result. It's my impression that the system restore screwed up something in the OS or the system registry that is a dependency for those two programs. The only suggestion Lenovo support could give me is to re-image the system. I would prefer to find the cause and fix that rather than reload the entire system. I would love to know what could cause these two programs to stop working when the other Lenovo utilities seem to work fine. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Which version of the tool box are you using?Mine would not open after installting updates but after installating the latest version its working fine

    Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card.

  • My downloads of iTunes and related software onto my Windows PC fails every time with error message that the software does not have valid signature.  How to get around this problem?

    I have trouble downloading iTunes software and related software like the new ios8 on both my desktop--Windows 7, and my laptop--Windows Vista, because I keep getting error messages saying the software has been deleted because invalid signature.   I have tried download and install and I have tried just download, but neither method works.   So I am stuck with the older software and my new iPad 2 Air isn't connecting because I need ios8 apparently.
    I have an iPhone 5 and a new iPad 2 Air.
    How to get around the Windows problem, please?

    Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

    What did the error message say?
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer                            
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
