Errors installing MaC OS

I'm helping a friend reinstall Mac OS. I have used both a Tiger DVD and the software install discs that came with it. I can erase the HD (which I did) but when I install the software it makes it about 10 min in and then says there were errors installing(using both discs gets the same error), please restart. Any ideas? Thanks

seen "errors installing Mac OS" message caused by bad memory, if it fails the test, RAM is most likely bad

    Hi folks, this is on a clean 1-month old mac running 10.6.7, with a fresh install of Xcode 4 from the app store. The "documentation" tab in the options allow you to install the mac os 10.6 core library documentation. It downloads the package but fails to install it. Here's the error:

  • ERROR installing MAC OSX onto my W510 Mint 9 Virtual Box.....

    Hi all,
    Im running Linux Mint 9 & trying to install osx 10.6.3 via latest virtual box. (for viewing purposes only!!)  Ive tried it with Empire EFI, iBoot and Legacy boot cd.
    All settings in VB are as tutorials that are out there on the web so im pretty sure my settings are ok. Once one of the above bootable discs loads it asks me to replace the disc with the msc os dvd (retail) and then press F5
    So i wait for the osx disc to mount, wait for about 1-2 minutes (as advised),  press F5 and the disc starts spinning for about a second then stops.  The following error then comes up on the Virtual screen window:
    Block 0x18a96a sectors 0
    this continues to scroll down the page then nothing. Im pretty much useless at pc's and i only use them for wmy work (CAD) Ive been getting help from a guy who is trying to step by step me through the installation process, he has installed it but running Ubuntu.
    Here is the link to our blog he has created on his web page. (which i have to say a big thanks you to him for)
    Moderator edit; Link removed
    So can anyone suggest why the disc is not loading from the DVD drive? possibly a simple setting on my w510?
    Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Error after re-installing mac OS X 10.5....

    So I took my Imac to the Mac store and a tech looked at it and came to the conclusion I need to un-install Mac OS X 10.5 and re-install it with a clean slate... I did and at the end of the download an error came up saying about not being able to download and restart again and try again... I did and nothing.. How do I go about un-installing it and re-installing it ? I am so confused now I really want to throw this computer out the window... !!! Any help will be gratly appreciated... Please be very specific but not rude... Thanks to all !!! I am really new at this iMac thing.... I don't want to have to pay $90.00 an hour again to have it fixed !!!

    If you are going to throw it out the window please make sure it lands at my place.
    I don't understand your post. You can't "download" a new installation. You have to reinstall using the restore DVD that came with your system or a retail version of 10.5. Did you reformat and reinstall or do an archive and install? You need to be very clear about what you actually did or didn't do. What prompted you to take it to the store in the first place?

  • Trying to downgrade MacBook Pro (13" mid 2010) from lion back to snow leopard. Error: you have install Mac 23.1

    Upgraded to lion, thought it was going to be the hip new thing but I can't stomach it. Time to go back home.
    The problem I'm having is that I can't run the snow leopard disk no matter how hard I try.
    I tired booting to the cd and I got that pleasantly multi lingual message telling me "you must restart your computer"
    I wrote the disk image to a USB and got the same massage when I tried to boot to it.
    When I try and run the disk from the desktop I get the grammatical masterpiece of an error message "you have install Mac os x 23.1"
    My computer is boot camped if that makes a difference at all, and I don't care about my data I have it manually backed up (not tm).
    How I can snow leopard 10.6.8 again?

    First, do you have a backup? If so then you can just boot from your Snow Leopard disc, re-initialize the hard drive and install SL anew, then restore from an older backup (assuming you have one?).
    Clinton
    P.S. You might be able to install without wiping your hard drive. To see, just use your SL disc and try to reinstall. I don't know - I've only gone back-in-time with TM since getting a new Mac with Lion installed.

    Thank you for the response.
    The upgrade I'm interested is for OS X  v.10.8.5...
    ...The App Store page shows 2 different upgrades:
    Mountain Lion  (10.8.5)  Software Upgrade,  and
    Yosemite FREE upgrade
    If the App Store is showing 10.8.5 as an update, what do you currently have installed? The final update to Mountain Lion was 10.8.5, and since the basic OS installation of Mountain Lion is no longer offered in the App Store, that would suggest you're currently at an earlier version of Mountain Lion - 10.8.x where x=less than 5. If that's the case, I'd suggest getting the 10.8.5 update. There is also a Supplemental Update for 10.8.5 and that may be what the App Store is offering.

  • I want to de-install mac-excel test version and get the error message: you have not the privileges to de-install. Please login with the Mac-OS account you have installed mac-excel originally'. I don't know this account anymore. I am sysadm

    I want to de-install mac-excel test version and get the error message: 'You have not the privileges to de-install. Please login with the Mac-OS account you have installed mac-excel originally'. I don't know this account anymore. Possibly it does not exist anymore. anybody out there who can help ?

    Hi, I may suggest to activate the root account and try the uninstall process from that account. To do so, you have to:
    Go to System Preferences a open up the Users pane;
    On the left side of the pane, you shuold see Login Options;
    Enabled editing option clicking on the lock (it will ask your password);
    Once the pane is enabled, you should see something like Server Account Network (sorry my OS is in italian, so I don't exactly know the right translation), and right next to it a button;
    Click on that button, and a new pane shows up. Click on Open Directory Utility, and on the upper bar of OS X click on Edit;
    Select Enable Root Account (you can set a password, or not);
    Done that, you should log out and when the login window show up, type on the user field "root" and the password you choose;
    Theorically, from this account you will be able to unistall the application.
    After completing your task, I reccomend you to disable the root account, just by loggin in your personal account and repeating the steps I described before. Hope it helps

    Local Mac shop said to hold down "c" after inserting disk to get "disk utility" to come up in order to wipe hard drive.  I can't seem to get it to do this.

    This W7 was purchased for using Fusion, as others did - per reviews from amazon.  The technician today called their contact at VMWare - Fusion not officially for use with Lion - even though I read at the VMWare support site that others have made it work.  Apparently my setup doesn't work.
    Do you know how to do the proceedure for bringing up the disk utility when starting the disk?
    BTW, some of the windows applications I want to continue using are Incredimail, Calendarscope, Stamps.com and a few others I have used over many years.  What do you use for email and calendar?
    Wow, sounds like another reason to not use MS Windows.
    Regarding your Disk Utility question, please elablorate I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Disk Utilty is just that...a utility, it's something most users never have to use especially on a new computer. Let me know what you're trying to do there before I give you some instructions.
    As for as your Windows apps I would recommend using Mail and iCal, both come as part of OS X and are very robust tools. Don't discount the software built right into OS X it's very robust and powerful not all like the bloatware most Windows boxes ship with. Stamps.com well I'd look for another alternative. It's clear they don't support OS X which makes me a little suspicious that they're so behind the times.
    Also if you have not been exposed to these links before I'd strongly recommend bookmarking them and using them. They're extermely useful!

  • Errors while installing Mac OS X 10.4

    Hi,
    I am trying to upgrade my sisters computer from 10.3 to 10.4. I'm using upgrade CD's. The first disc worked fine, and it asked me to insert the second disc, so I did. Everything seems to be going fine but then it will say 'there were errors installing the software' and it says to 'try installing again', which I have done about 5 times now.
    Is there anything I can do to get it to work? The discs are clean.
    Also, does the 10.4 installation have to be completed properly for me to install 10.5? I am going to upgrade her computer to 10.5 after I put 10.4 on anyway.
    Thanks in advance

    Okay, let's see if I can infer what is going on. Do you have what is actually a Leopard upgrade "Drop in DVD" disc? From what I can find the only ones that require Tiger be pre-installed are those. If so, those were issued with new Macs sold around the time of the transition from Tiger to Leopard. I believe all those Macs were the new Intel processor Macs which require a different version of Leopard from the old PPC style computer. Now, since your sister's computer runs 10.3 that means it is a PPC generation computer and I seriously doubt the Leopard upgrade disc will be able to install Leopard on it since it is a totally different computer architecture.

    I had the exact same issue; Lion recovery from Command + R would hang with the logs showing the same message.  To resolve, I used Disk Utility to remove the recovery partition.  My Air then used Internet Recovery to load all the tools.  When using Reinstall via Internet it worked just fine.
