Errors when restoring

so i have a 3gs 6.1.3
i want to restore because my phone is a bit glitchy now
so when i go to itunes and try to update and restore
it says extracting software and after that verifying iphone restore with apple
it sometimes stucks there or gives me a "this iphone could not be restored error 3014
and sometimes "The iphone cannot be restored at this time because iphone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable please try again later "
please help me

That error often indicates a hardware failure.Try restoring a few more times. If it consistently gives you that error, make an appointment at the genius bar to have it looked at.

I recommend trying this method if you see an "error 1669" when restoring your iPhone:
Check for hardware issues
Related errors: 1, 3, 10-47, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1000-1020, 1669.
Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

Disk Utility error when restoring a drive to another drive: Error 6

I have a 24" iMac with a 250gig hard drive, and a firewire enclosure with a 160 gig hard drive. The iMac has a windows partition that I am trying to back up on the firewire drive, so that I can repartition and make the windows section bigger, but I keep getting errors when trying to restore.
If I uncheck erase destination, and then click restore, it starts to copy for a few minutes, but after 2-3 gigs of copying I get another error:
"Restore Failure An error (2) occurred while copying. No such file or directory"
This happens again and again and again and again. Any ideas?

Thanks for the different responses. Just a few more details. My internal hd is only using 63 of 100g.
So I don't think the disk space issue for disk utility would be the answer to my particular problem. I have also tried using superduper to back up this same drive; however, it would not complete the task either. Would it be better to just back up the user folders separately and maybe the applications folder and then just use the mac os dvd's to install on my new drive? ( I don't guess backing up the applications folder would do any good; they would have to all be reinstalled. ) Just trying to find a way to get this done without having to do to much reinstall work. Any other ideas?

We have a Production database with instance name PROD.
We use Symantec Netbackup software to backup this database to tape library.
We want to test some recovery scenarios on a test server. So we want to restore the production backups from Tape to this test server.
We did the following:
Cloned the ORACLE Home to the Test Server.
Changed the db_name parameter to PROD and also set ORACLE_SID to PROD.
then we connected to RMAN and ran the following command to restore the control files:

If the phone was hacked to unlock it, it will not be able to activate until and unless the original carrier authorizes unlocking it. Since the UK carriers will not authorize an unlock for a phone that is not actively in use on their network, and you will not be able to activate it on any network until after it is unlocked, you will most likely not be able to activate and use it at all. It's a catch-22.
Return it to whereever you bought it and get a refund. Then buy a phone from a legitimate source.

How to resolve the 3194 error when restoring an iPhone?

My phone is locked (screen will only show the iTunes logo and an arrow implying i need to plug into iTunes). It started doing this when I attempted to restore my phone (which it did not complete).
Now, the phone is stuck and I can only get the error message 3194 when I try to restore my phone.
Does anyone know how to bypass, fix or resolve this issue? I am not sure if restoring is even the correct step to load the software back on the phone.
I've tried in DFU mode and in restore mode......no luck. I've tried installing various versions of the .ipsw (3.1.3, 4.3.2 and 4.3.3). All have resulted in the same issue.
Any adivce or suggestions?

Just the usual diagnostic steps. Reboot your computer. Use a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub, disable security software - antivirus and firewall - completely remove iTunes, then download and install a clean copy (current version if 10.2.2), create a new user on your computer and try updating as that user, try a different computer.

I'm having the worst time trying to restore my iPad to a backup.
I enabled using it as a development device and was screwing around with Xcode for a while. Just to make sure I didn't accidentally mess anything up I went ahead and told iTunes to restore it.
Well, it didn't restore anything from my backup. It gets halfway through in iTunes, then it complains that the iPad has disconnected. On the iPad it says "There was a problem during restore. Please restart your iPad and try restoring again."
I've gotten back the iOS backup I made before starting with Xcode using Time Machine, and tried using that, and that doesn't work either.
I've tried restoring several times now, and the same error occurs each time. I've tried it with iOS 4.3.2 and then, after an update, 4.3.3.
I have a lot of important data I need and I assumed the backup would work! Most of it is irreplacable.
If it's of any relevance, the backup is encrypted and it requests my password, which I enter (properly).
Does anyone have any ideas?

(P.S. the irony is that if Apple hadn't have patched the bootrom, I could have jailbroken and used a backup app from Cydia to make sure all of this wouldn't have happened.)

More information: /usr/libexec/BackupAgent2 keeps crashing on my iPad when I attempt to restore from the backup. An acquaintance said that this is because my kernel is corrupt... any thoughts?

Also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. Operation not permitted - Permission errors when restoring

I'm trying to restore some files from a time machine backup from a DIFFERENT machine (i.e. browse other Time Machines) to a different laptop.
BOth machines run 10.6. When using Time Machine it didn't want to know about it with the graphical restore.
I tried the browsing via Finder and drag/drop onto the new machine's desktop and no joy - error messages.
Finally, I used the command line and the even used sudo, but got this error:
mv: Linwood College//10Bi SS/Global Terrorism/Rainbow warrior comic.comicdoc: Operation not permitted
The command I used was:
MacBook:Grad School sam$ sudo mv -f Linwood\ College/ ~/Desktop/
I did enter my password too, which is an Admin account on the machine.
Any suggestions on how I can recover these files? I'd really like to get them off the external hard drive before I give up and wipe it.

You should be able to restore to an "alternate location," per #16 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.

Getting a -1 error when restoring iphone

I tried to upgrade to IOS5 and my phone got wiped out completely. The phone now only shows the silver apple logo or the connect to itunes screen.
When I connect to itunes, it says the phone is in restore mode and has to be restored before it will function with itunes. I click on the restore button, a window appears saying there is an upgrade available and asks if I want to set the phone to factory default and install the upgrade. I start the upgrade and the software loads & the verify completes ok, then it updates the firmware. The install goes ok, but when the verify is run, I get unknown error (-1).
Is anyone else having this problem?
