ESATA & Bios on Elitebook 8530w

HP Elitebook 8530w (GW680AV)
Windows 7 Ult 64bit
OS installed on 2 x internal drives via Raid0
I'm having a very frustrating time with eSATA!
1st off I hadthe built in eSATA interfcae working well with a single eSATA external drive, I often find it pays to initially install external drives via USB and then switch over to the eSATA cable.
2nd I bought a Dual SATA 2.5in enclosure which has a built in Raid facility with both USB & eSATA interface (Startech.com S252U2ERR) works very well via USB but when connected via my laptops built in eSATA interface the RAID0 setup gave lots of problems, It couldn't cope with large file transfers (approx 3Gb files) It would start off ok indicating >100Mbs but would very quickly reduce to <2Mbs worse than USB
Via USB the same transfer would continue without problem at normal USB2 speeds
I never had this problem with my single eSATA external drive (no raid) but then transfer speeds were lower
Its almost as if the built in eSATA interface on the laptop falls over when the transfer gets too fast!
I've updated all the drivers via HP and when this didn't work I updated all drivers via the Intel website (Intel storage drivers)
and installed 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' But still doesn't play ball
3rd I bought a 2 port eSATA express card adapter from Addonics, installing this gave some grief I saw a good number of blue screens!! but I'm now good after installing the Port Multiplier Compatible Driver option, And with the StarTech Raid0 external Drive it works very well and gives some impressive transfer speeds. But still I've got to be careful when connecting and removing.
4th I also did a BIOS upgrade to see if it would help, and discovered that the default setting for the built-in eSATA interface in the Bios was 'Disabled' !!!! This caused me a lot of grief but luckily I checked. Regardless it still didn't help.
So for HiSpeed Transfer rates my only solution is the additional eSATA ExpressCard and not the built in eSATA interface
So still not sure where the issue lies, Intel or HP?

Hi,
If you check the below forum link, they have mentioned that for this laptop you cannot reset the BIOS password.
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-HP-ProBook-EliteBook/HP-EliteBook-8530w-Reset-bios-password-do...
If you are unable to logon due to BIOS password, mention the code which pops up after entering the password incorrectly 3 times where i can try getting a code for the same.

My HP Elitebook 8530w is toast, but the hard drive is fine. To save my data, I would like to learn
all the HP models which can accept this same drive, so I can start hunting for a suitable used one. It probably won't be the elitebook, that laptop seems kinda rare. So I'm hoping that other models will accept the same drive. The hard drive model has a really long number - Hitachi HTS723216L9A360. Does anyone know which hp models are compatible with this hard drive? Thanks.

Notebook hard drives are pretty much the same in recent years, yours is SATA interface, much older notebooks used IDE-PATA and are not interchangeable.
Installing it in a different notbook that has different hardware may not work so good, most of the time windows will not load properly or at all, you can buy a usb to hard drive adapter and connect it to the hard drive after you remove it, then connect the drive using the adapter to any other PC with a usb port, then you will be able to see you data on that hard drive using Windows explorer

  • I forgot my bios hp elitebook 8440p passwordi was wondering if someone here could help me

ok so i forgot  my  bios hp elitebook 8440p
if someone can help that will be really appreciate

    Hi:
Your notebook uses the HP Sparekey method of password recovery. You were supposed to answer 3 questions so that you could remember your password in the event you forgot it. Also, you could have enrolled your password with HP and if you lost it you could get it from HP customer support if you provided proof of ownership.
If you just set a password and did not enroll in HP Sparekey or answer the 3 security questions you will not be able to enter the BIOS. If that was a power on password, your notebook is only good for parts (except the motherboard).
There is no way to reset it by removing batteries or whatever.

Hello , I bought a Elitebook 8440p , when I try to access the BIOS, was asking for a password, but after 3 attempts , it generates no code to write down me , someone help me?

For Business and Elite model this requires you contact HP business support to reset this. This isn't like consumer where you can use a reset password.

  • Elitebook 8530w overheating, CPU TEMP over 105 degree C

Hi, Is there any one had this problem ? My 8530W always thermal shut down when I run heavy CAD work.
I use software to detect my cpu core temp, and it report over 105 degree C before shut down. Does any one
know the repair center in Sydney that I can bring my 8530W to fix this problem.
    Thanks

No Intel...that would be like a square peg in a round hole. The sockets are not the same. You could downgrade to an AMD A6 processor but you have already done that, essentially, by capping the cpu at 60% of its rated speed. Still, if the cpu is defective, as it may be, then downgrading might have the desired effect.
This is the full list of supported processors:
    AMD® A10-4600M processor (3.2 GHz/2.3 GHz, 1600 MHz/4.0 MB L2 cache, DDR3,quad core, 35W)
    AMD A8-4500M processor (2.8 GHz/1.9 GHz, 1600 MHz/4.0 MB L2 cache, DDR3, quad core, 35W)
    AMD A6-4400M processor (3.2 GHz/2.7 GHz, 1600 MHz/1.0 MB L2 cache, DDR3, dual core, 35W)
At this point they are practically giving away the A6-4400M. Here is a new one for $8.55.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/AM4400DEC23HJ-NEW-GENUINE-ORIGINAL-AMD-A6-SERIES-A6-4400M-2700-MHZ-SOCKET-FS...
Whoever installed the new thermal paste was right there where you need to get to replace the processor so obviously knows how to do it. Going from a quad to dual core has to produce less heat, I would hope.

  • Elitebook 8530w Docking Station Compatibility

I'm trying to find out from an 8530w owner how well their machine fits in a 2008 dock (preferably the 2008 advanced dock).
I find that my laptop pulls off easily from the right hand side without pressing the release button. I've tried the same machine on a few other docks at work (all 2008 advanced docks) with the same result. The left hand clip seems to engage well (I can't pull the laptop off the dock even with moderate force), but a very mild tug on the right side of the machine causes it to come free.
There are no obvious obstructions I can see on the base of the laptop so I'm at a loss as to why this happens.
Given that I expect to be able to lock my laptop in my dock, this is obviously a security issue.

    Bump...

  • Elitebook 8530w overheating then battery error (replace)

Anyone have a problem with 8530w overheating then saying it is a bad battery?  I keep it raised off of desktop and mainly does it while watching lost on hulu.  The bottom gets really hot.  Any thing i can do before dropping $100 on a new battery only to have this happen again?  Thanks

Interesting that HD content would do this. Makes sence if it is stressing the card beyond what it can do.
Ever try any games on it? I would expect the same thing to pop up.
Gonna agree with you, though. Give Support a call and have them look at it and see if the battery problem goes away after they fix the other issue.

No problem. It is an older monitor. But being a small business, we can't afford to discard a working monitor that costs $1500 to replace.
The annoying part is that we tried to do a lot of research prior to purchase to find out exactly what resolutions the Lenovo docking solutions supported. We asked our rep to check because of the total lack of Lenovo documenation on this. We would not have wasted all this time trying to get it to work if we had known.
Even now, no one from Lenovo has come right out and stated that their docking stations don't support Dual Link. I think that they actually have no idea.
We've been bounced around and around between the same Lenovo sales, support and customer service numbers so many times in the past three days that they are now just dropping our calls in the hope that we will go away. No one at Lenovo has offered a solution of any kind.
FYI, we've even been told that because we ordered the W540 through CDW that there is 'nothing Lenovo can do.'

  • BIOS - "EliteBooks" - what the HECK is "Power Monitor Circuit"?

"PowerMonitorCircuit" setting in BIOS in EliteBook 8540W or most others:
    Dear HP Experts,
Good job of obliterataing information on what it does, even a degreed engineer as myself is unable to decide whether to keep enabled or disabled in BIOS!
Can you please tell what it does?
NOT whether I should enable/disable - that I decide myself, just please:
Explain its function.  Already read your "Service Manual" - but no word, all it says is setting name "PowerMonitorCirc", but not what it does !

BEFORE YOU SPEAK, GET FACTS Mr. "Professor".
    FACTS:
    1) My Posting date - was a special "HP Experts Day" when their employees conducted 24-hour session, monitoring Forums & answering as officials, rather than as "user-to-user" forum.
Perhaps you weren't aware 21-22 (?) September was that day.
    2) Previously offered answer was a vague finding from another user, which while afraid to appear "pedantic", is not a 100% clear explanation of what Circuit does.
It's true I accept it for now as a somehwhat useful hint, but HP employees did not catch my question and not officially acknowledged that it's time to add info into Service + User's manual(s) [simply tell what this setting does].
E.g. nobody needs an explanation what "Fan Always ON while on AC" setting in BIOS - things like that are selfexplanatory to anyone who's not a moron, BUT:
But "Power Monitor Circuit" - at least they could care to add an explanation!
I am one of those who is "particular" with his Soft/Firm/Hardware settings, and I like everything be perfect.
    That's Engineer in me.
I need to know settings clearly, not some vague suggestion from another user.
So I hoped for HP folks to live up to their promise on 22 September "Experts Day" to jump in to provide answers.
Perhaps they got overwhlemed as I've noticed NUMEROUS other people postings that day along with me.
