Escape key not closing dialogue boxes (Win7)

Hi there,
Illustrator CS4 will not close dialogue boxes for me when I press the escape key - any ideas?
repro: open the colour picker dialogue box - press escape to close. Works fine in Photoshop.

It works fine on the Mac three possibilities
the preferences are corrupt trash the settings folder
the keyboard key is stuck but since it works in PS it would be highly unlikely
it doesn't work on Windows 7
Two more could be a conflict usually happens with conflicts with Entourage or other Microsoft software needing to updated.
Finally you are delusional and everything is working fine!
If you need instructions on resetting or moving the settings folder jacob will be around soon he has a link to a page on his site describing the method.

Escape key not recognized

greetings.
i just recently switched over to a new computer at work and using another designer's workstation w/ cs3. for some reason unknown to me, the "ESC" (escape) key will not work for me when trying to deactivate a text box.
i looked under the keyboard shortcuts menu and found where to input this shortcut (keybord shortcuts/product area: tools/selection tool (highlighted) ...and see the current shortcuts set at "default: v" and "text: escape" so i know it's there.
however, when i try to input a new shortcut and hit the escape key, it's not being recognized at all. same thing happens when trying to set the escape key for any other shortcut.
i'm experiencing the same issue in illustrator, as well.
any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Ps CS4 11.0.2 (64-bit)

Apologies for bumping this oldie. Escape key is completely dead in and outside of Ps.
The weird thing is that it can only be reproduced by opening Ps (with or without a file) while CCC.exe is running (AMD VISION Engine Control Center).
So one would be inclined to blame Ps.

Closing CCC.exe in the Windows task manager, then restarting Ps cured it.

Escape key not working properly?

Hello,
I'm working on a Mac Pro at work and I've encountered an odd issue with the escape key. It doesn't work as I'd expect it to....i.e. when I have a full-screen Quicktime movie or DVD Player open, it doesn't shrink the window as all my other Macs do. Also, when I'm in Final Cut, if I'm using Capture Now to capture a tape, escape doesn't cancel out of it as one would expect. Instead, it appears that pressing Cmd + Esc or Shift + Esc will cancel the Capture. Also, CmdOptEsc works to Force Quit out of programs so I know the key itself is working, just not as I'd expect it to. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I cleared the keyboard commands - reset them - escape performed ok the 1st time, but then the problem returned again.
Does it repeat that each time you do it?
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go. Move this file to the Desktop & reboot.

Audio File Not Found Dialogue Box - How To Stop From Popping Up

Hello:
I had to delete useless audio tracks from Logic Pro 9. Naturally I get the pop up box that says certain track not found in it's location. Then the instruction as to how to locate it. then the the buttons: skip all skip search locate. Well as the tracks have been completely deleted, and the bin has all ! next to the tracks, is there any way to stop this dialogue box appearing, as in "do not show again," or am I a slave to clicking on skip all to get to the recording tracks? Thanks for any advice

Escape key not responding, along with FN keys -Sattelite L300

ok so this has been occuring for a little while, not sure since when, but very recently
basicly, the escape key wont respond to programs, and neither will most of the FN keys, FN F10+F11 work, the LED's light up, but the rest of the FN's do nothing
the escape key responded to a keyboard testing program, it came back as responsive and working, but in programs such as a 3D engine and MSN Messenger, escape refuses to respond and work as it should
it hasnt always been like this, theyve worked before, ive had the laptop since christmas, had to take it back because the wireless card broke

and download the TVAP package for Vista (32bit I assume).
Uninstall the current TVAP in Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Reboot and install the new TVAP
ps. You need to burn the Recovery Discs yourself, ensure you use good quality media to avoid problems.

Escape key not responding

recently upgraded my computer to windows 8.1 but now my escape key wont work

Very odd. Is your computer a laptop or desktop? If its a desktop, do you have another keyboard to test with? However if you do not, try this
1) Go to Device Manager
2) Select Keyboard
3) Right click your keyboard and go to Properties
4) Try Update Driver first and then go to Search Automatically for driver online
5) If that doesn't work, Uninstall the driver
6) Reboot
7) Windows should detect your keyboard and try to reinstall.
If its a special keyboard, try the manufacturers site for a custom driver

Escape Key Not Working

Was surprised to see the escape key can no longer end/stop a capture. I have to manually stop the camera and wait a second for FC to say 'reached end of edit/tape'. I poked around in system Prefs and FC Keyboard Functions - couldn't find anything?

JavaScript - Closing dialogue box with NumPad Enter

Hi there,
I have a JavaScript in Photoshop (CS6) that opens a dialog box with an OK and a Cancel Button.
If I hit return on the keyboard the box closes as if i clicked the OK button, if I hit the NumPad Enter key nothing happens.
Any ideas on how to get the NumPad Enter key to work properly on this?
(not that this is a BIG deal, but I always use the NumPad to close dialog boxes as it is next to my mouse, and I don't wanna switch between the two keys all the time...)
I'm on a Mac btw.

Not authorized dialogue box but is authorized?

I'm trying to get an older version of pandora on my ipod. I authorized the account to the computer the downloaded app was applied to but when I try to sync the app it says it's not authorized. But when I go to authorize it, it's saying it's already authorized. Why can't I put the app on the ipod?

Hold the command and options key while starting Aperture, this will bring up the first aid window. Run Permission Repair.
Then try Apeture.
BTW there is a seperate community just forAperture I'll see if the hosts wil move this there.

ESC (Escape) key not working in Mac and Windows?

It just won't work. Both OSes.

A bloating battery is a bad battery dying and developing gas inside. If this happens the bloated part can be under the left upperside of the keyboard and put pressure there. It may bulge the underside of the macbook, it may bulge under the trackpad and cause irratical trackpad behaviour, etecera. Check the battery.
If it is bad you should replace the battery.
Keyboard: you can replace the keys (per key) I think, if it is a bad keycontact.

When I hit the escape key to close out the open file dialog box, firefox hangs or crashes.

When I open the "open file" dialog box using the ctrl+O and then hit the escape key to exit the box, I get an error message which I'm not able to paste here.
it says something about a runtime problem and if I try the same thing again to reproduce the problem, it will sometimes just hang and windows vista will tell me the program is not responding.
I've checked to see if there are any crash IDs but none were found for this time frame.
I have even disabled all add ons.
I'm currently using vista 64 bit edition and Firefox 6, beta edition.

When closing multiple tabs, is there any way to get back the option of saving those tabs OR NOT for your next session, within the warning dialogue box itself?

For brief period of time, not in FF4, there was the option whereby when I closed multiple tabs, a firefox dialogue box opened warning me that I'm about to close multiple tabs, '''AND ALSO''' asking me if wanted to save those tabs for my next session, or trash them.
The primary issue IS NOT about saving tabs. The primary question here is about getting THE OPTION back to the CLOSING MULTIPLE TABS WARNING DIALOGUE.
The use case here should be obvious. However, since it is clearly not obvious that different people work in a variety of ways, and neither of those methods of working is "wrong" or "right" I will elaborate: Some people, for whatever reason, it doesn't matter why, want to save all their tabs on some occasions, and on other occasions don't.
This preference varies throughout the day. Therefore it is inefficient to constantly go to preferences and change whether or not I want firefox to open all my tabs from my last session. It is more LOGICAL to place an option in the multiple tab warning dialogue as well, for people whose preference constantly changes.
This option was available for a time in most of the Firefox 3 versions. Is there any way to get back this option in Firefox 4?

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no need for asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session. 
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.
You can set the warn prefs on the about:config page to true via the right-click context menu or toggle the value with a double left-click.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.

Can't click anything in firefox after closing "printer error" dialogue box.

I'm trying to print an important document off the internet in Firefox. I can't try to restart Firefox without losing access to this document but after closing a "printer error" dialogue box I am unable to click anything in Firefox. I can't use "ctrl+p" to print or any of the other keyboard shortcuts. Right-clicking is also not working.
Running task manager doesn't show any tasks other than the one Firefox window and that shows up as "running" so I don't think it's a case of the dialogue box still being open.
I CAN right-click on Firefox on the status bar to open a new window (which works perfectly fine) or to open a new tab in the malfunctioning window (which is frozen as well).

How do you navigate dialogue boxes using the tab key in Photoshop CS6 on Mac OS X Mavericks?

I know that seems really 101 and obvious, but I worked in Photoshop on a PC for many years, and using the tab key to navigate through every field/radial button/dropdown menu/etc. was never an issue. On the Mac OS X however, it only navigates through certain fields within a dialogue box. And before the guaranteed suggestion to change my Mac OS X Keyboard preferences to allow full keyboard access to "All Controls" instead of "Text Boxes and Lists Only", I have already tried this setting which did not resolve my issue.
Does/has anyone out there worked between both platforms and had this issue as well? I'm a Mac guy through and through, but I must say, this is the one thing that I think PC has a slight edge on. It's incredibly frustrating to have my keyboard workflow interrupted because I can't simply tab over to a certain field that is in a dialogue box which I'm currently working in...

Applies to all filetypes as the issue is regarding dialogue boxes and not files themselves.
No error message.
Normal use.
It works on PC, but not on Mac.
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor
8 GB of memory
719 GB of space available on my main HD
This has never worked in any version of Photoshop I have used on any version of Mac OS X, but has worked consistently on every version of Photoshop that I have used on every version of Windows I've used (up to Windows 7)
I hope this provides enough information to get the ball rolling on this. I fear that there is no answer that will resolve the issue, but before I throw in the towel, I figured it was worth trying this forum since my web searches have turned up absolutely nothing of help.

letting me run better, I'm happy for now.
However, I appreciate your judgement and I am working on evaluating Safari vs FireFox vs Chrome. I've had some trouble using FireFox with
LastPass which works very well under Chrome. But that is only one data point. Most of my Ram troub;e os related to the number of windows
and tabs I open. I've tried comparing the three browsers for how back each reacts.
I multiply windows and tabs because as I surf the web, I discover things I want and don't want to lose them. However, I need a tool more useful
and structured than bookmarks to be able to record things of interest to make them easy to return to and find later.

Unable to open firefox, dialogue box says program already open but not as far as I can see.

Recently when I log on to my pc and try to open Firefox, a dialogue box appears and tells me something like - firefox is already open, close firefox and try again. As I haven't opened firefox, I don't know what the dialogue box means. I went into task manager and the firefox program was not shown as open. I clicked the processes tab and deleted firefox from the list. I use Firefox 4 b9, this also happened when I had 4 b7. I uninstalled the former but no change. I reset system to earlier date, ran a virus check but all ok. I downloaded Firefox 3.6, then followed the upgrade for 4 b9 and all was ok until I was using my media player 2 days ago and tried to watch BBCiPlayer at the same time which is when the problem arose again. Also Firefox extremely slow to open. I managed to get online this time by going into History and clicking a website I used some time ago before all the above happened.

I am using IE to post this message on Firefox.
It has happened again. At 23:05 (UK time) I openedFirefox on the firefox site not IE. I opened my btinternet.com email account but at 23:41 the tab had not opened fully and still trying to load. I closed firefox and tried to open it again and here are the correct details of the dialogue box which appeared.

I cannon do a restart at present as the tv part of my pc is recording a movie so I will try again later.
