Escape Sequences for HP Color LaserJet 3600n

I want to be able to print a file to my 3600n printer with certain text printed in color. I print from a Fedora14 box. For output to the screen, I can use the well-known VT100 terminal escape sequences to achieve colored display, in, say, red. I want to achieve the same effect with printed files.
Does the 3600n respond to escape sequences? If so, where can I find a list of these escape sequences?
TIA,
  Jon

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

  • Installed HP Color Laserjet 3600n software but does not show in model list

Recently installed the HP software for my Color Laserjet 3600n on my MAc OS X 10.5.5 laptop. The software says it is installed successfully, but when I try to set it up for printing via IP address, it says the ip address is valid, but at the bottom, iwhen I choose select drivers, my model does not show in the list.
    Any thoughts?

What IP printing protocol did you try, and what does it say to use in the manual?
Since it's not a postscript printer, I wonder if it uses More Printers > HP IP? (instead of IP printer)

  • Why aren't there Windows 7 (64 bit) specific drivers for my HP color LaserJet 3600n printer?

Why doesn't HP support its own printers by providing drivers for a very stable operating system?  I've been a longtime HP laser customer...since 1984 laser I.  I would like to use drivers for my color LJet 3600n which were specifically written for my computer's operating system.
Does anyone know where there are Windows 7 (64 bit) drivers for the HP color LaserJet 3600n printer?  Do I have to purchase Brother or Canon or Lexmark printers to get support?

Oh, you must not be on the English US site.  Basically it says to use the Vista driver and gives a link to it.  That is as good as it gets at this point, sorry.

  • PCL Escape Sequence for PDF417 barcodes

I have purchased the HP Laserjet Font Solutions (HP Part HG271US) for my HP Color LaserJet CP4020 Series printer so that I can create shipping labels with scannable barcodes for our customers.  I am able to generate the PCL code and print out code 39 and code 128 barcodes.  When I print out the PCL font list, it shows the escape sequences for the code 39 and code 128 barcodes.  I need to print out pdf417 barcodes as well but I don't get any escape sequences on the PCL font list or a font ID for the pdf417 barcode.
Does anyone know what the escape sequence is for the PDF417 barcode when using the HP Laserjet Font Solutions (HP Part HG271US)?

  • Color Laserjet 3600n won't print from network

Our small office has an HP Color Laserjet 3600n that has worked great connected to the network via ethernet cable for many years. When we came in this morning it refused to work after a power outage last weekend, and print jobs would just remained trapped in the print queue with either "printer unavailable" or "printer is busy" messages. No error messages appearred on the printer, and it prints fine from an attached USB cable. I verified the network cables, and am even able to access the printer's web interface a-ok via it's web address. It normally operated on all the default settings, I believe, and I can't figure out what else could be the problem other than a hardware fault. Any clues? We have a bunch of toner cartridges and would hate to have to buy a new unit now.

  • Windows 7 and HP Color LaserJet 3600N

HP does it best again.  No Windows 7 driver for Color LaserJet 3600n!   You can fill in the blanks...   However, using Windows 7 Professional, I was able to install the XP drivers.   Download the XP software and it will run in a virtual XP session.  I then added the printer as Windows 7 would lead you to do.   The add did not complete correctly--CTRL/ALT/DEL.  However, the printer was added and seems to work.   Maybe HP and Microsoft are pushing the more expansive Windows 7 Professional.
    This question was solved.

XP Virtual session, not familiar with, but sure seems painful and possibly limiting vs HP doing the right thing in the first place.
FYI ... Over in the Home > Other HP Products and Technologies > Windows® 7 Beta and test forum, the lack of a driver has already been noted in the thread ...
HP Laserjet Color 3600n Driver for Windows 7
A few select remarks by various people (including myself) in the thread were ...
Is this really true and if so, for heaven's sake why?
    Ridiculous.
    stunned by this decision
This is unbelievable!  We purchased multiple 3600n printers just barely a year ago (September, 2008).  We have made the decision to upgrade our office computers to Windows 7 (from Vista) and now we find out that our practically still new printers are not compatible.  I can assure you that I will NEVER purchase another HP compute or printer... EVER!!!
I was also a bit surprised.
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR BS SUPPORT RHETORIC FROM YOU GUYS ... FIX THIS. (a snip from my acidic entry)
HP has not responded in that forum and I just put in a support email to HP if this is poor choice of words (not supported vs we are working on it) in the
HP LaserJet, Color LaserJet and LaserJet MFP Products - Product Support for Microsoft Windows 7
link to see if it is really being worked on. Since they didn't speak up in the forum and its been since 10/5 ... plenty of time to respond, I'm stepping it up and going on the offensive.
On that Windows 7 printer support page, I counted  9 models (some of which have sub models for networking and duplexing) as not supported. I didn't count the supported ones, but must have been several hundred. What is really laughable is that the lowly LJ 2p is still supported ... aren't those circa 15 years old? Not sure if the 2p is the oldest one on the list, but it is the one I recognized as truly most ancient.
My 3600n was bought at Staples in 9/2008 and has a manufacture date on 6/2008, its not like I purchased POS laying in someone's warehouse years and got taken by some scammer.
Plain and simple ... I don't know when HP first started selling the 3600 and when they dropped, but I just don't understand how HP could do this to a  product they actively sold a year ago (and there was a Vista Driver update in 11/2009) yet they support the ancient 2p ... Astonishing !!!!!!!!!!
HP the support listing (url above) for the 3600 (besides the bad news) and has a link to a trade-in program ... thinking ... oh they recogized the errors of there ways and was going to give me a good deal ... no, it was some generic trade-in page, but I ran my 3600n though the page to see what it was worth ... $25.
Feel like getting stepped on, the trade in price, that was another one which lead me to this very acidic comment in my original post ... AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED YOUR CUTE HP TOTAL CARE LOGO IS YOU (HP) WITH YOUR HANDS AROUND OUR NECKS JUST SQUEEZING US FOR EVERY RED CENT WE MAKE IN JUST THE DAINTIEST WAYS YOU CAN (BET YOUR MARKETING PEOPLE NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT INTERPRETATION)!

  • Got HP color laserjet 3600n working on sl

Originally was attempting to print through airport with our HP color laserjet 3600 connected to airport via USB. This was working until we installed snow leopard - then we couldn't print.
Solution: We have an Airport Extreme G that has 2 ethernet ports, one of which can be used for a printer. We connected the 3600 to the ethernet port on airport and added the printer using the IP address and it works with all of or computers now - some with 10.5 on them and some with 10.6 on them. You can also add the printer using the ethernet port and a bonjour driver.
Hope this helps someone out there.

ok... so i found a solution that got the 3600n running. i actually found it in an HP forum (http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId= 1018527&admit=-682735245118090418665928353475). the solution was this:
I had problems with that also. While I found the documentation to be unclear, I did eventually get it to work with a macbook OSX 10.4.8 and a HP color laserjet 3600n connected across a network.
My first thought was to add it as an "IP printer", after all it's on the network and has an ip, right? That didn't work, it just printed out lots of garbage.
I then tried several things, including reinstalling the HP software twice. What finally did the trick was to:
    1. go to utilities/printer setup utility
    2. click add - note the printer does not show up
    3. click more printers, and on the window that comes up:
    4. select HP IP Printing - note the printer still does not show up
    5. click manual
    6. enter the ip address for the printer
    7. click connect
then it automatically sees the printer as a "HP Color LaserJet 3600", adds in in, and I can print to it fine.
Note: it never, in any of the menus I looked at gave me the option to select a HP 3600n, and it wouldn't see it automatically. So not the expected "just works" experience I was looking for from the Mac, but it works now, which is good, I was begining to fear I had bought the wrong printer.

I’m trying to follow HP’s instructions to add a driver for HP Color Laserjet CP 1215 which is connected to my Time Capsule. However, in System Preferences I can’t “add” the printer to the print queue because I don’t have a driver and you have to select a driver before the add button becomes active.  Therefore, the Mountain Lion software update doesn’t add driver software for the CP 1215 driver because I was unable to add the printer to the print queue.

This printer doesn't seem to be supported in ML:

  • ANSI escape sequence for "Command" key?

I know there are escape sequences for ctrl (^), alt (~), shift ($), etc that can be used from the command-line, but I'm wondering if there's an equivalent way to invoke the command key (or the apple key or whatever you wish to call it) from a terminal?
    I'd appreciate any advice, thanks!

    Hi Evan,
This is more than a failure of terminology. The use of certain key sequences cause the terminal to produce certain characters that are just like letters except that many processes take special action when these characters are encountered. These characters are called "control characters."
For instance, type <Control>-v to "tell the shell" to not take special action on the next character produced. Then, if you type <Control>-c, the terminal will produce an End-of-Text character, ANSII character 3, and the shell will accept it as a literal character. However, it has no symbol for that character so it displays a pair of characters, "^C", in its place. Internally though, there is no carat and no 'C'; there is only the number three, which is the ANSII code for the End-of-Text character.
The bash shell will substitute control characters for certain escape sequences in expanding words of the form $'string'. For instance, consider the following command:
    echo $'\003' | cat -v
    ^C
Above, the first line is a command that you can cut-and-paste into your terminal. The second line is the output you would see if you execute the command. Bash replaces the $'\003' word with the literal control character and then "cat" converts that character to the pair of characters, "^C", to show you what had been there.
Of course there are still terminology problems; you are not using the word "emulate" correctly. However, if there was such a meaning, I think that one would say that the character sequences "emulate" the control character, not the other way around.
On the other hand, when you modify a key with the "Command" key, Macintosh programs treat that as an attempt to invoke a function of that program. No character is produced. In fact technically, the program never even sees the keystrokes. The system intercepts the key event and converts it to an AppleEvent.
One tool on Macs specializes in producing AppleEvents and that is AppleScript. Fortunately, Apple wrote a utility to grant the shell access to AppleScript and that is the "osascript" command. That allows you to sort of imbed AppleScript in a shell script and that would allow you to send any program any event that the system would generate in response to a command key sequence.

You've got a double whammy there. CS2 is not universal so you're running

  • Squeaky HP Color LaserJet 3600n

Our office has an HP Color LaserJet 3600n and it been working great, but the last month of so, it's been starting to make a squeaky noise every time it prints something.  I'm assuming it's from the rollers, but not sure what the mechanics of the machine are.  Can this be resolved with WD40 or a light solvent lubricant?  If so, where are the "rollers"?  Otherwise, are there other options?  Thanks!

    Hi mbsearch,
I noticed that this post is a couple of years old.  I wanted to reply since there are several hundred views.
There are many rollers and gears within the LaserJet.  Figuring out and knowing which roller it is would be a difficult task.   Using a product like WD40 or other light lubricant would not be recommended as the potential negative impact of the lubricant relative to the materials would be unknown.
    My recommendation would be to:
    1) Print Out the Supplies Status Page and make sure that any non Cartridge supplies such as the Transfer Belt, Fuser, etc are relatively good.  As they get near end of life the can start making noise.  Replace anything that is getting towards the end of life.
    2) You can have a support person come out and service the printer to resolve the squeak.  They will have the proper lubricants and parts to resolve the issue.
