ESS 50.4 and EP7

Hello,
I am planning an installation of EP7 with an ESS Business Package. Unfortunately the HR system is still 4.7 which means I will need to install the ESS 50.4 Business Package.
We do have an ITS 6.20 installation which I will make use of for the iviews.
If anyone else has done a similar installation please can you list the potential areas of risk and how you managed to resolve it.
Also if you have any suggestions on how you did the installation, I would appreciate your input.

You will see that when you install the External ITS you will be asked for R/3 connection information, such as logon group, hostname, system name, system number, message server, depending on what connection method you choose.
As for connecting the External ITS to Portal, as I stated, you will create iViews in the Portal and you will be asked for a URL. The URL is the External ITS URL, which should be something like http://hostname:port/scripts/wgate/service/!

New to Webdynpro/ESS/MSS

ESS 60.2 in EP7 with ECC 5.0 issue

Hello All,
I am facing some issue in implementing ESS Busines Package in EP7 sp9.
Landscape:
we have EP 7 with sp8 - ESS business package 60.2 installed (separate box)
we have WAS 6.40 with sp10 - ESS 100 sp6 and PCUI GP 100 sp6 installed (separate box)
we have ECC 5.0 (separate box). WAS ABAP Stack
We are using Travel Management of ESS, when we click dispay/print button in one of the opened expense report nothing is happening.
If we directly run the webdynpro application thats working fine.
Basically the webdynpro getting data from ECC but its not displyed in iview in portal EP7.
Also when i try to exit from edit mode in expense report its opening new browser with portal.
Any input on this is highly apreciated!!!!

Setting up ESS for Training and Event Mgmt

Hello to all SAP HR experts,
i am now doing a project on SAP ERP HCM and would like to learn more about the things and steps i need to do to come up with a ESS for Training and Event Management. I have an account for SAP Netweaver and able to access Enterprise Portal (EP). Do i require to navigate in EP to use the items there or do i need to set up an adobe interactive form using SAP Netweaver Developer Studio, design the flow at Visual Studio(VC), then link all the VC at Guided Procedure? If that's the case how am going to extract the data which i have configured in the IMG path under Training and event mgmt (TEM) and also SAP Learning Solution(LSO)?
For an example: I have created Training Event Groups, Training Event Types and Courses. If i want to so a paperless ESS, how can i extract all this into the fields which i have designed in my adobe interactive form.
Please help me and guide me along

There are 2 end user possibilities for Learning
One is PV7I and PV8I ITS services which are part of an old ESS role and can be used as integrated ITS versions
any ESS role via HpF or called directly via URL (without a Portal) - this will allow users to book course and events and view/change bookings etc
The other is Business Package for Learning 1.0 which requires a Portal (and other LSO dependancies to run)
this provides a wider range of Learning based activities including booking etc

As far as I have read and understand I will need SAP MSS,SAP PCUI GP and SAP ESS apart from BP ERP05 ESS 1.41 and BP ERP05 MSS 1.41
Now the question is :
do I have to install the previous versions of BP ERP05 ESS 1.41 BP ERP05 MSS 1.41?
or just download the files that I have said above and install it

As far as i know you can directly go with 1.41 ad java is not Patch Level dependent.you can directly go with the leel you want you dont require the sequence patch.

The ESSTimeSheet is now called Record Working Time & for now it is still in WebDynpro JAVA.. looking at how complex the whole application is, it will really take some beating to rewrite the same in WDA.

Error When building ess/tra/tre and ess/tra/tre/trs DC's

I had customized the ess/tra/tre and ess/tra/tre/trs DC's and had them working, but I do not know what I did or what happened that am now getting the following errors when building, can anyone help tell what the problem could be?
Error
-     The project was not built since its classpath is incomplete. Cannot find the class file for com.sap.xss.tra.model.openccmodel.OVSOpenCostcenterModel. Fix the classpath then try rebuilding this project.

-     This compilation unit indirectly references the missing type com.sap.xss.tra.model.openccmodel.OVSOpenCostcenterModel (typically some required class file is referencing a type outside the classpath)

For anyone who might need to know, I managed to fix this by adding tra to the required projects on the build path. On the Navigator View, right click -> Properties -> Java Build Path -> Projects tab -> check dependant project.

I am trying to implement ESS and MSS on ERP2004 and NW2004s SP09 (EP7.0) SP09. are the versions supported? where can i find the respective XSS component versions for EP7.0 SP9?
to implement the BPs ESS 60.2, the online documentation says.

Thanks for sharing that note Rajendra, it's a very helpful one to have on hand.
I'm going to reiterate my point here because these things should be carefully considered and blindly going with the latest version of things isn't always the right strategy.
Ask what it is about EP7 that you really MUST have that is not available in EP6? As per my earlier note, it is generally best to stick to the platform made for your release.
Also, for setting up the development environment, whatever version you end up going with you can use the 04s version of NWDI (Strongly suggest 64bit here so you can allocate 2 or 3gb of memory to the node) for development but you will need the 04 version of NWDS for developing. This is due to the recommendation to develop using tools from the same product release of your development. I'm not sure how this fits if you use EP7.0.

ESS page Navigation problem EP7.0 for ERP2004

How are you?
We made ESS configuration in our new NW04s SP10 portal.
We use ECC 5.0 as back end. As we cant install the XSS component for ERP2004 in NW04s, we add java stack in ECC 5.0 machine and installed the XSS and JCO and all there. And imported the BP for ESS 60.2 in portal EP7.0.
Now everything is working fine that one problem.
The problem is related to link in portal. When I click the ESS overview menu, I get the the overview with ESS menu inside the page.
But if I click again in ESS overview menu, it changes to the overview with ESS menu inside the page. If I click again it change to first style. What I mean is, it change the every alternative time. I made all the PCD setting in IMG. And when I get the second view, and if I click in any link, the top level navigation will not work after that.
Do you have any idea why it is so and how to fix it?

It might seem like not a big problem at first, but this can be a major problem. If you are implementing filters and routing their in web.xml, you will not get the intended effect. For example, I use a filter to make sure that the user has logged in before accessing a page in the /app directory. The filter is not applied AT ALL the first time the user tries to go into the /app directory. Any way to make JSF shows the correct URL?
