ESS - Canada Employment Equity iView

Has anyone experienced issues with the ESS employment equity iview?
As soon as we populate any data in infotype 77, the iview gives a null pointer exception error.

Interesting situation at my current client. We're doing an upgrade to ERP 2005 from 4.6C. In the client's initial implementation (global implementation I might add), the Implementation partner set up with the system with all employees in Country code 10. They designate the country at the personnel subarea level (if you're scratching your head in confusion then join the club...lol). They implemented ESS a few years ago and did a repair to the function module which fetches the users HR data to point to an alternate table that has the personal subareas, this of course worked for the old version because design time was done in R/3 for that specific ESS service. Fast forward to today and design/runtime happens on the frontend and of course there are country specific iviews for personal information scenarios. There isn't time unfortunately within the upgrade project to fix the MOLGA mess so we're trying to find a solution within the webdynpro to have it ignore molga. Any suggestions?

1) For the various countries for which SAP provides the iViews for Address, either we have to have multiple iViews for different countries, or identify one country and link its resource to other countries. (in which case all employees regardless of where they come from, would see the same screen.

a little tip: i think as a workaround to avoid lose country functionality you can hide non-mandatory fields and rename labels through iview Personalization (Ctrl + Right Click in Preview mode), in order to match screen of different countries
2) For countries that do not have SAP iViews, we again identify the closes country screen and configure it in Country Specific Settings.
Which again means, my current setting (1 Portal {Role Definition}, 1 Workset, 1 Page 1 iView) for Address for all employees and still show country specific screens by resolving molga wont work anymore?
Portal always works with MOL/UGR parameters by using std services/resources/iviews, etc.
As an alternative, you can build a custom services/resources/iviews and then avoid this call (i'm talking about relate a one particular iview with a new resource, and this with a new service).
But i suggest maintain a simmilar behaviour to std, thinking of future upgrades and to get the advantages of functionality already built...

In ESS, if we view our previous experience details in previous employment
screen the name of the previous organization is not appearing fully. The
maximum characters is restricted to 20. How to address his issue?

ESS webdynpro personal information iView SSN field

Dear Support,
I am working with Personal Data WebDynpro iView (sap.com/essuspdata/Per_Personal_US) in EP 6.0 SP18 and ECC 5.0. Currently, the SSN field is editable. How can I disable this feature. Please advise.

ESS Family members/dependents iview

Hello All,
I am having an issue with the family members and dependents iview in ESS.
Right now when I click on the iview it displays a line of buttons each saying new spouse, new child, new first emergency contact etc and when I click on any of these buttons it displays the detail view of that contact.
My requirement is to change the overview page of this iview from displaying a list of buttons to may be a list box or a combo box. I looked at the bizcard view of this iview but could not figure out how to change this or if there is any customization that can be done in IMG to change the view of this iview.
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for responding. So I need to change the bizcard view of this iview. I have the NWDI set up and imported the application. I saw the bizcard view also but could not understand where I need to make the changes as it looks same as any other bizcard view of any other application.

Viewing ESS (version 5) in iView of Netweaver Portal 7

Hi, I'm having problem in viewing our ESS Portal version 5 (i think) to Netweaver Portal 7.
On Netweaver Portal 7, I have an iView connecting to our ESS portal. But when I view it on Netweaver Portal 7, it keeps on blinking (page keeps on reloading)

Not sure what you mean by version 5 of ESS
One possible cause from ESS application perspective --->
It should be noted as of ERP2005 - the SAP kernel will not accept calls from ITS standalone application - so ESS versions based on ITS 620 standalone have to be migrated either to WD JAVA (as provided by SAP) or customized to work with ITS 640
SAP do provide the migration of some ITS services to 640 but for the majority we recommend WD JAVA Business Packages
Also some XSS packages may be only recommended for use with some EP versions - notably SAP_ESS 100 is specifically compatible only with J2EE 640
Ideally check your version landscape to ensure you are running compatible versions
However its also possible reloading or iview handling issue is due to J2EE or Portal technology code or settings
- one possible from the technology side checking cache or refresh settings and SP stacks are followed

you need to setup a system to run your BSP applications.
Host should be maintained with its fully qualified name i.e. <server>.<domain>.com
You can maintain this detail in Se80 -> utilities ->BSP test -> Maintain system details
Please check in transaction SMICM what is http port. you must host BSP application on same host..
open any BSP application and right click and select test.
This should open BSP application. if there is any error to host BSP application, please mention here.
If this works then create a BSP view with concerned system and application and start page details, go for preview this should work there also.

You have to change the webdynpro coding of the change own data application to disable the email field. You require the source code the NWDS to make the chagnes.

Can anybody please tell me wht is the difference between IAC and Java IViews and wht configuration we have to do to use java iviews?

IAC iview is used when you want to create an iview of an ITS service. In the thrid step of creating IAC iview we should pass the ITS service name for IAC property.
Steps to create IAC iview.
1. Create a system object for R/3 with ITS property category also.
2. create a Service in transaction using SICF. The below thread will help you.
Running your first ITS WebGUI application in SAP NetWeaver 04 ABAP Edition - NSP
3. create an an iview and give the service name in IAC textbox not R/3 System name.
java iview: if you are devloping an application using Ecllipse or NWDS you can create an java iview. Create the application in Ecllipse or NWDS and export it to the portal as .par file. In the content administration while trying to create an iview you have to choose new from par->iview and choose .par file you have exported to portal and continue.

CA Emp Equity iview

Hi Everybody
I am having problem with the canadian equal oppotunity iview. This iview works fine for us in the development portal and does not work in the test portal. I am trying to transport the ivew with the code i.e the webdynpro application from the dev portal to the test portal once again. I am not very familiar with web dynpro tranpsorts and SLD. So my question is can someone please help me find the application code that is working in dev and tranport it exactly as it is to the test portal.

Strange behavior when opening ESS iview in new window

Hi all,
I have a problem that i find very strange. In ESS, when opening a iView in a new window, for some users the link to the ITS service gets corrupt..
An example:

If you look at this link you can see that the & sign between iview_mode and NavPathUpdate is missing and makes the launch of the iview will fail.
If I use the same link for opening the page in a new window this error does not appear.
I have tried to change the parameters that are passed on but this does not help..
Any ideas?

How to resize ESS iviews/pages

I am using ess for enroll ment, iview pz07. When I preview the Iview, the iview occupies the entire browser, thats ok. But when I preview the page that this iview comes with (defalt page in ESS business package), The iview is cut off halfway in the browser. I can still scroll down and see the rest , but i am trying to fix this.
Any ideas?

1. What is the iView's appearance (size) configured to?
2. What is the iView's appearance (size) in the (SAP-provided) page configured to?
3. Does this behaviour also show up if you place the iView on a new (custom built) page?

I am a bit confused by your question...because what I know is that when you make delta link of SAP Content ..make changes to it ....and then apply new patch the new SAP changes are applied to the custom content because of the delta link as well as the old custom changes are retained.....they are not overwritten....

ESS- Multi country manager problem

Hello Experts,
We are facing a problem in ESS Implementation. We have a few employees who are managers in their employment country as well as for few (1 or 2) more countries. ESS WD-Java applications are picked up wrongly for such users and they get java dump - field symbol has not been yet assigned. error key:RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE
For example we have a user who is employee (pernr) in country say Germany and having manager role in backend. And as we are using ABAP AS as our UME source, the backend role has u2018Germany ESS/MSSu2019 portal groups assigned to it. Thus this user has access to ESS Germany applications (WD iViews) and MSS Germany applications (iViews).
Now this manager is also working as manager in country say Sweden and hence assigned the Sweden manager role in backend which has u2018Sweden ESS/MSSu2019 groups assigned in portal. Now he has access to ESS Sweden and MSS Sweden but he is not having pernr from country Sweden.
Now in portal the concerned user (manger-Germany) gets error while trying any of ESS (webdynpro) applications (personal data, address for example). When we examined this we found that the user is getting Sweden country specific wd application. For the role - ESS Germany we are assigning only Germany specific wd application. If this is causing by multiple ess roles assigned thereby multiple country specific application, then we need to know how to manipulate the order of the applications. As such users are large- modifying the existing role structure is ruled out.
We are using {NW 7.01 SP03} and {ECC 6 EHP4} and {ESS 1.41, MSS 1.41- patch level same as ehp4}.
Please help - we are in final preparation phase and as there are many such users this is really need to be solved.

     grouping and checks if there is a country-specific service definition in

     o   If there is a country-specific service definition, the system uses
         this definition.
     o   If there is no country-specific service definition, the system uses
         the general service definition in the V_T7XSSSERSRV and
         V_T7XSSSERSRVC views. If the general service definition does not
         contain a resource object, the system does not display the service
         (see example 2).
     This enables you to define country-specific variations of services for
     certain countries while using a general service definition for all other
     countries.

     Example 1
     Your company has employees in seven different countries:
     o   Germany (01)
o   Austria (02)
o   Switzerland (03)
o   Canada (07)

      (Number in brackets = country grouping)
The service for displaying a salary statement is the same for Germany,

Employment Verification (Review and Send Screen)

Hello Experts,
I have done little modification to ESV application in ESS.
The send mail, I have customised it to print from dekstop where the details are loaded into adobe form. The functionality wise it works fine. But, it throws java.sql.SQLException: Closed Connection in the second step.
In detail,
On employment verification Iview
(selection) >>>>(review & send)>>>>> ( completed)
When try to move to the review and send screen for the first time it throws me java.sql.SQLException: Closed Connection on the screen.
But if you come to previous step and try again it doesnt thro wnay exception.
Even when it throws the excepiton. I am able to print my ESV, the functionality wise it works fine.
Did anyone see such behaviour before in any other Iview?
