ESS Homepage Framework texts

Suddendly all homepage framework texts for a language disappeared from our development clients. Only client 000, and QA servers "survived".
We are now wondering what may have caused this.....Any ideas?
I'm now trying to individualy retranslate (copy from 000) all customizing but the transalated texts are not appearing in the Portal, only english. Do I have to restart the portal?

u can try to search customizing the Homepage Framework in sdn it self there are a few documents which you will get good idea .

please check your language settings in ESS relevant JCo connections.
We encountered the same issue and our JCo's were spanish - don't know why.
After changing language we got the right language in ESS/backend.

Homepage framework/Overview iView

Hello All,
I am using ESS 1.0. The overview screen for ESS has various areas such as Personal Info, Benefits and Payments etc.
If I want to have one set of users viewing Personal Info and benefits and payments and the second set of users only viewing personal info do I have to create multiple Overview iViews and do the necessary configure in the backend e.g. create numerous 'area group pages' in the homepage framework.
Or is there a simpler way?

Nope...no simpler way. That's it. You can use "proxy services/classes" to show/hide services on an Area page dynamically, but when presenting different Areas in an Area Group, you are pretty much stuck making several "versions" of your ESS config. It is not daunting or difficult...just a bit tedious. I had one client with 6 different ESS Homepage Framework versions.....yes, that's how I got to know HF pretty well. haha

Change masthead text away from welcome - homepage framework not working?

Hi,
I've trawled through countless threads without getting a clear understanding on this...
I'd like to change the masthead text from Welcome <username> to Hello <username>
I thought I could do this by changing the text for the Header in the homepage framework (SAPDEFAULT) but someone in a another thread mentioned that this change doesn't work on later versions - not sure if they mean't portal of backend (we're using NW7 and ERP6.0).
Can anyone advise what's the reccomended method for doing this?... or should the homepage framework change work?

Thanks for this. I've followed your steps through and the Z copy of the class returns the expected result in debug. I've assigned the class to the SAPDEFAULT header but the old text 'welcome' still shows in ESS.
Can you advise?
Also, can you clarify if/why/when the "text" field in the homepage framework header is redundant for ESS changes? The help text isn't helpful in this respect!

What is the benefit of configuring the XSS Homepage Framework for ESS?
Over using standard iViews.

It means you can disable (or enable) the exact functionality your customer needs rather than sticking with the default implementation.
Most customes do not use everything available from ESS or MSS. Switching it off (making it unavailable) is WAY better than leaving potentially unconfigured content to be accessed by users. SAP generally do not handle the error cases and you will get lots of nasty stack traces .....

New ESS config - Homepage Framework (area group, etc) seems to be missing

Hi,
I am installing the new ESS 1.0 for ECC6 (ERP5).
I succsessfully imported with SDM he new:
ESS BP
PCUI_GP
I then created all systems in the portal and all JCo's.
When I try and open Employee Self-Service (any pages) in the Portal I get the following error:
Area group SAPDEFAULTESSERP2005 does not exist._
It seems like the Homepage Framework has not been imported for some reason as there are no default area groups or anything else in homepage framework.
Have I missed something? Is there something else I also had to import?

Dear ,
it seems that you are trying to use an ERP2005 ESS package with an
ERP2004 backendsystem. Unfortuanetly this is not working.
You can use
ERP2004 - ECC5 - NW2004 - ESS 100 - ESS BP ERP2004
or
ERP2005 - ECC6 - NW2004s - ESS 600 - ESS1.0 BP ERP2005
However it should be possible to connect the ESS 100 application which
are running on a NW2004 to an EP7.

ESS Homepage Multi Language not displaying other than English & German

We are implementing ESS Travel Management in 6 language English, German, French, Turkish, Spanish, Portugese
Currently we have maintain the transalation for all language, Homepage Framework display fine in English & German language
For this we have set the JCo language as blank for SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics & SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics
Also browser language based on language we select.
Our Issue is for other remaining language French, Turkish, Portugese If the user login with french language & browser as FR the Homepage Framework give an error in French:(Le groupe de domaines SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005 n'existe pas.)
One strange thing I found is the JCo If I check the Jco in preview mode under security I click the language tab there are 2 language maintain in table (EN, DE) If I want to add remaining language in the table from where I can add, is this related to the resource bundle please suggest.
Please let me know what can be the issue.

Hi,
If your homepage framework is working for German language then check if your setting are properly maintain for Area Group Key SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005 in French Turkish Portugese..
Solution:Login to system in each language i.e FR, TR, PT
navigate to SPRO>FA>TM>ESS>Homepage FR> select Header & Area Group Pages>
Select Define Area Group Pages > Add Entries> Select the SAPDEFAULTESS_ERP2005 Key check weather the Area Group
Role Text is maintain for FR TR PT if not maintain the translation your problem will be resolved.

ESS Homepage URL Resource

Hello,
I am trying to configure a 'Direct URL' resource in the ESS WebDP homepage framework. My link appears but is not behaving like a hyperlink. Right clicking it just gives a 'javascript(null)' error. Clearly the URL address I have specified in the resource is not being read properly.
Has anyone done this successfully?

Hi Tahir,
Right clicking may not work because the auto-generated URLs (I'm assuming you're defining the Direct URL resource in IMG on the R/3 side) are being created using the JavaScript EPCF API which uses the doNavigate() and other methods. If you right click on the page itself and click on View Source and search for the text of the hyperlink you're testing, you'll find the direct link is coded with javascript, similar to the following:
<A HREF="myLink" onclick="return EPCM.doNavigate('target')">

Open external URL from Homepage Framework

Hi,
We are building our new ESS functionality with Homepage Framework and I need to create some links to external URL. I would like them to open in a different window with no portal header at all. They should appear as services listed in the menu area. While this seems easy, I had tried several things with no success.
First, I created an URL iview in portal content. I marked the option "launch in external window" to Open in a separate window.
I create a resource that pointed to this Iview, and linked resource with a "java webdynpro" service, service with subarea and subarea with area. The service link is displayed correctly but it is always opened in the portal page, not in a different one. Have i forgotten any parameter that would make this work?
A second approach was to create a resource that includes the URL and an associated service, marked as "Direct URL launched in separate window".
This succeds in calling the URL in a differeny window but it adds some strange parameters at the end. So instead of calling http://www.google.com it calls something like http://www.google.com?sap-ext-sid=2J*HeTVW7295w3QWBZhQow--

Define Resource: you have to mention all the below details
1. object name :http:// (url ).
2.window name: "".
3.window Property : target="_blank".
and also check define service:
service type: Direct url launched in a seperate window.
And assign resouce to service -
>
service to sub area--->
sub area to area---->
area to areagroup.

Homepage Framework - XSS Menu diffrent Systems

Hello,
is it possible to have the application XSSMenu (Homepage framework) from 2 diffrent SAP Systems in one portal?
I´ve tried to use the parameter sap-wd-arfc-useSys and created the additional JCo destinations - but now i get an error
"Accessing System AAA is not possible because RFC Metadata was retrieved using System BBB. Please assure you have configured the RFC Connections properly"
any suggestions?

I have not tried accessing two ESS systems before, we always end up changing the JCo's when we need the system switched.

Ess homepage translation

We recently installed ESS on NW04S and have issues with the translation of the homepage framework. It always renders in english even when other pages renders in french.

ESS 2005 Framework and customizations

Is there a good document that explains the configuration of the new ESS 2005 business package and how it iteracts with the homepage framework. How does the sev config properties work?
We are trying to move W4 to the personal info page.

Homepage Framework services in Sitemap

Hello Sitemap Gurus,
We used ECC Homepage Framework to setup our ESS pages in Portal. The HF configuration consist of creating the resource link which are attach to area pages.
In turn the area pages are grouped under area group to create the resource which shows on the Portal as page.
The issue we are running into is that we cannot pull the resource services links in the sitemap. Has any one tried pulling the service resource link in the portal sitemap.
Any suggestion on how to do it will be helpfull.

That's correct, work protect mode shouldn't be the problem in your case.
I would probably start from the portal role and drill down through each portal component (i.e. Workset, Page, iView) and check that nothing has a parameter set to open the content in a new browser window.
Doing it this way (as opposed to opening each component) should reveal any delta linked changes to parameters that you may not be able to see when looking directly at the iViews etc.
I am assuming that the right Homepage configuration has been transported to your testing client as well?
