ESS implementation

Hi,
Can any one help me about the ESS implementation process? Like what are all the main areas in the ESS implementation? For example if a company wants to implement the following modules (below) mean what are all the things need to be done to achieve this and important areas in this. Also advice me like can we use the existing SAP ESS business package? Is there any new version available? Or do we need to develop our own like same SAP ESS BP. Or do we need to customize the existing one? That means how to do? Apart from that how do we do Java Development using Custom Java or Webdynpro's in ESS? Where it is actually involving? Can you please help me sharing some documents related to the following ESS implementation process? It will be a great help. If any body willing to help me in this regard please send to

Hi Venu,
First of all you have not mentioned that which SAP version do you have?
SAP ESS in mySAPERP 2004 (WebDynpro Based) is completely different from SAP ESS in 4.6C and Enterprise versions(ITS Based).
So you have two different business packages available for both the above.
For ERP2004 you have to deploy the following sca file PCUI_GP05_1.sca
ESS05_1.sca
on you J2EE(Portal) Server. Then there are some customizing needs to be done. You can search for the same on help.sap.com and in this forum as well. Also refer note 824847.
For ESS Implementation in earlier version you can refer.

I think Standard 'who is who' should satisfy most of your requirements.

All other WD application is running like if we are creating travel in backend then
inside the trip and expanses ,all trips are coming means no problem in webdynpro
.this error i was getting when I was developing webdynpro java application and added anything in
backend and j2ee is not restarted and using this in frontend.
Is it a version mismach problem because if structure field is used in front end and missing in r3 then
this error may come.
If it is then what patch is required for SAP_HR and EA_HR in ECC5.

Also, you will need the business package documentation (available on this site) depending on the business package you use as well as the backend system.
I am actually working on(kicking around the idea) of writing a ESS guide for mySAP ERP (which would cover 4.6c as well since ITS is still used).

ESS implementation issue.

hi all
I am implementing ESS on the NW04s platform. I have done all configuration in the front end and the back end (ECC 5.0). When I assign the role ESS to a user I see only the role, workset and one page (overview). I am not able to see the other pages even though they are attached to the role. Initially I did not even see the role but then attached the everyone group to the same. Now I am unable to find the issue for the pages not appearing. Can I use ECC 5.0 and EP 7.0 for BPs. Any help?

Check the permission role and Role content..
you can open the location of ESS content and there right click and open permissions and then assign it to your role.

ESS implementation posibility with ECC 6.0 and EP 6.0

Hi ,
To implement ESS with ECC 6.0 and EP 6.0
Any body can suggest for this implementation feasibility and possibility.
What are the Business packages has to down load and where can we get those BPs.?
After importing into EP 6.0 , what are the configurations and settings required to get SAP HR screens/ivews (preview when we create after systems in EP),
What are the prerequisites and hardware and software requirements for 8000 users (apprx) ?
Any version upgradations are required for implementing this or
can we use this ECC 6.0 as backend and EP 6.0
and please help required for all those things.

For ESS/MSS based on ECC 6.0 (ERP 2005), you can download the XSS business packages from
service.sap.com/download --> Support patches and packages --> Entry By application Group --> SAP Application Components --> SAP ERP -->
SAP ERP 2005 --> Entry By Component --> SAP XSS --> (SAP ESS 600, SAP MSS 600 and SAP PCUI_GP 600).
You can use JSPM to apply these business packages on to the portal. To use JSPM, you have to login to the portal server using <SID>adm to be able to use the JSPM tool.
Business Packages and components in it: you BP consists of the 2 following parts
1) BP_ERP5ESS / BP_ERP5MSS is Portal Business package which consist of iview, pages and roles.. while SAP_ESS / SAP_MSS. is WebDynpro part of it.
These iviews will direct to some WD application which are part of SAP_ESS / SAP_MSS. and they are deployed on server.
2) you have to simple go to
service.sap.com/downloadSupport patches and packagesEntry By application GroupSAP Application ComponentsSAP ERPSAP ERP 2004/2005--Entry By ComponentSAP XSS
pick the correct version and download. You get full package not incremental. Old ones will be overwritten when you deploy them. try to download them again if it failed first time.
3) Refer note 761266 for package compatibility.

ESS Implementation with WDJ + WDA

Hello all!!
I´m going to implement ESS with WebDynpro ABAP, however, I have a couple of applications in WebDynpro Java. Is it possible to achieve this?? Can I include my WDJ app in the launchpad?? How is it done??

I found sap note 1450179 which states that it is possible: "Additional custom-built or standard applications, which are based on WD Java, can be added to the launchpad Customizing (using transaction code LPD_CUST) in the back-end system as the "Portal Pages" application category. Standard launchpad Customizing uses the ESS role and the MENU instance."
However, I still don't know how to achieve the task exactly.
I'll appreciate any help!

ESS Implementation based on Web Dynpro Abap(WDA)

I would like to know if anybody can share experience in implementing ESS based on WDA using ESS business package 1.50 on portal. I would like to know how different this implementation compared to configuration using Web Dynpro Java(WDJ).

The difference can be due to deployment, ie if you want Portal to be used if you are already not using ECC 500 or 600
You can be a ramp up customer or wait for it wide release in march end or april
the key difference is most of the customisation of the roles can be done from backend!

New ESS implementation, should we wait for EPH5 ?

Hi All,
We currently work on ECC 6 EPH 4 and are in a process of implementing ESS. There are number of customizations that have been identified for which we will need have to modify the Java code since currently ESS is all in Java.
Now since Enhancement Pack 5 which is coming out in June/July will have ABAP as the basic technology for the ESS portal rather than Java. Does that means that we will need to "throw out" the customizations and redo them in the ABAP version of the portal when the our company upgrades to EPH5? Is it recommended that we hod on any Java customizations and wait for EPH5 to be out?

ESS implementation and Sizing

We have Portal running since the last 2 year. Portal are being used to view BW reports, etc.
Now we are implementing ESS.
Please advice how we can do the sizing for this extra ESS load. We have checked at SAP Quick sizer but couldn't see any particular option for ESS.
Please advice or share your experince.

For sizing, you need to check the following parameter
1) how many number of user is going to enrolled in ESS portal.
2) how many concurrent user.
3) concurrent user during peak time.
4) Application ( iviews type like url iview, webdynpro iview, etc...)
5) go to service market place and use quick sizing for further analysis.
I feel quicksizing tool is the best practice to analyze the portal server sizing.

ESS implementation for same country twice

Hi Gurus,
I am implementing the ESS in 4.7C version using ITS.
I am using the table T77WWW_SC for implementing the ESS.
My client acquired two companies in UK and he wants to implement ESS for those two companies separately.
I implemented the ESS for 1 company n its working fine.
The country is UK with molga ( 08 ).
How can I implement ESS for 2nd company for same molga code( 08 ) using the table T77WWW_SC?

You can create on table "T77WWW_SC" but with field "No" different between each other company.

ESS implementation without using EP

Evn if u use EP , ESS runs on the ITS Only .
There are Service files ( Internet Application Compenents ) called as IAC's .
Go to sm30 - > t77www_srv iview to see the transactions.

ESS Implementation Best Practice

I am implementing the latest version of Portal on Netweaver 7.0. When the business package is loaded onto the server, I get a folder in PCD at Portal Content > Content Provided by SAP > End User Content > Employee Self-Service.
I'm curious what the best practice is for implementing any changes to the content in that folder. Should I copy the entire folder into my own folder in the PCD (by where all my BI objects are for example) and then make the changes I need? If I do that and we later upgrade, will these objects be updated? Or is the best thing to do just copy the ones I'm going to make slight changes to and have everything still referencing back to the "Content Provided By SAP" folder?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Create a new folder and copy the PCD objcets you want as a delta link. This way you changes will be preserved without impacting the original objects. Then if you upgrade, the new objects will inherit the new features into your delta link.

we have ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 IDES version the online version of ESS is working fine, now we want to use ESS on portal.
now my queries are
what is the prerequisities for ESS on portal ?
is the java components for ESS are to be deployed on Portal Server?
How can setup the SLD for using WebDynpro Application on Portal?
and provide some guidelines to configuring ESS on the Portal Server

For ESS totally you need to download 3 Files and deploy them thro SDM.

Area Career&Job disappeared (ESS implementation)

Hi All,
I'm Setting up ESS/MSS on EP 6.0 SP12 with ERP2004 on the backend.
Quick link for area Career&Job disappeared from ESS main page after portal restart, bookmark for page Career&Job still persists, but when I try to see services on this page I get the error:
"com.sap.pcuigp.xssfpm.java.FPMRuntimeException: Fatal error: Area EMPLOYEE_CAREER does not exist
at com.sap.pcuigp.xssfpm.java.MessageManager.raiseException(MessageManager.java:111)
     at com.sap.xss.ser.xssmenu.fc.ModelHandler.onInit(ModelHandler.java:232)
     at com.sap.xss.ser.xssmenu.fc.wdp.InternalModelHandler.onInit(InternalModelHandler.java:398)
     at com.sap.xss.ser.xssmenu.fc.FcXssMenu.onInit(FcXssMenu.java:255)
and so on. Iviews, role, pages for ESS persist in content
But from the SPRO point of view in the backend system everything looks fine and nothing was changed previously.

As Mentioned by Wenshan, Please refer to not 797174.
You might need to import the table entries from T7XSSSERSTRING and T7XSSSERSTRLAN from the base client to the upper client(s)
