ESS in SP14

Hi all
We are currently implementing ESS with EP6.0, SP14.
We are facing certain issues with that.
Consistency is not there in the data.
Anybody who has already configured ESS with SP14 successfully?

I would imagine that SP12 wouldnt be a problem. We generally kept up to date with the most recent version of the SAP ESS 100 component without any problems.
When the links disappear, do you get an error icon in the bottom left of IE, if you are using IE of course, to indicate an error occurred on the page? We used to encounter problems caused by IE if the following were not true, although I would be surprised if these affect your problem:
- Add all EP servers to your Internet Options/Security/Trusted Sites
- Ensure IE uses UTF-8 encoding (View/Encoding/UTF-8)
- Use HTTP 1.1
Do you have access to service.sap.com to log a support message?
Do you get any errors in the defaultTrace log on the Portal server instance (assuming you've turned on ALL logging in Visual Administrator for all the relevant log catagoies/destinations)?
Is the Portal deployed to the same J2EE Engine as the SAP ESS 100 component and PCUIGP 100?

ESS enhancement build caused broken DCs

Hi,
I'm doing ESSxx_D on leave enhancement and encountered the broken DCs after consolidation process.
Actually, i had tried the consolidation for 2 times, but none was successful.
In the first time, there were all 177 broken DCs for ESS_C and 1 broken DC for ESS_D after consolidation.
The broken DC happened to other DC (ess/tra/tri in ESS_D) which i didnt touch at all (only enhanced on ess/lea in ESS_D).
1. How could the broken DCs happened to ESS_C (which is supposed to be constant version) and ESS_D (which is not the one that i did enhancement at)?
Then, i created a new track and redo everything again. I just copied and pasted the source codes.
After checked-in, activated and released, the enhanced ESSxx_D deployed successfully to the development server. Everything is fine till this point.
Next, ESSxx_D was imported in the consolidation. After imported, there is ONE broken DC in the ESSxx_C's ess/lea DC. Error message is as below.
2. Isnt the ESSxx_C the constant version of the ESS and the enhancement will not affecting it? The ESSxx_D has no broken DC.
3. The source codes were same for the first time and second time consolidation. What could be gone wrong?

ESS - Permissions Problem

We have recently installed Employee Self Service on our portal nw2004s
ESS Business Package1.0 sp14
SAP XSS(Self Services) -> SAP ESS 600 sp14
I can access the applications from the Portal and have no trouble accessing the ECC backend for data.
The users that I have granted the Role ESS get the tab but when they select it they get the portal runtime error

I have reveiwed permissions but have not found anything. I also have not found a document they describes security permissions specifically for ESS Business Package.
The users when they access the ESS tab never get to the ECC backend, we ran a trace.
If I give the users the Portal Role "User Admin" they can access the ESS applications.

Manual Correction through NW Developer Studio

Hi all,
I have referred SAP note 968890 (Travel ESS: Incorrect layout of HTML trip form).
I checked and ESS 100 SP14 is not yet available on marketplace.
Other alternative of manual correction through developer studio is something I haven't done before.
Can someone guide me through this?

What it means is you need to have NWDI ( Netweaver Development Infrastructure ) should be installed for modification of the webdynpro program. As you see in the word document , they have given the corections for webdynpro program .
You need to plan NWDI Intalled and should manually correct by a webdynpro developer

How compare the code between two tracks in NWDS

We have NW04 Sp18 Portal with MSS & ESS Sp13.At present version we have made lot of custom changes.
Now we have to upgrade ESS to Sp14. As per the JDI cook book we are going to create new track.
After that how will we implement the custom changes to the new source code?
Is there any way to compare the changes between these two tracks to implement the old custom changes to the new source code?
Any tools available in NWDS to do this

Hi Gopala,
You won't like this answer, but unless you have documented all your changes very accurately, as far as I know it's basically the only option you have. Check out the content of both tracks and use a good diff tool to check the differences. Personally I use [WinMerge|http://winmerge.org/]

SSO, ECC 5.0 vs EP 6.0 SP14, problem with ITS, ESS, WebDynpro, etc

I have the problem of connection the ECC 5.0 with EP 6.0.
I have to Implementation EP on ESS.
I do not know what the address and number of port the ITS because my ECC is on WAS 6.40 and the ITS is already probably on solid integrated in WAS on which the ECC is.
I do not know what to write in EP in moment when creature system to R/3. There is registration 'ITS Host Name & ITS patch', I do not know what I have to write there where this put in is R/3?
What do transactions serve ITS? How do I have activate ITS?
I ask about dispatch me message on these subject, they can be this links or theses' concrete steps what I have to make.
What is it this PCUI_GP ? - I have this to install and where from I have this to pull down?
I ask to forgive my weak English.

While Deploying , Select Update any Version.
this is Update the Compoenets from Current Version to the
Required Version.

ESS SP14 upgrade

Hi Experts,
Recently we upgraded our EP from SP09 to SP17 and in a sequence we also upgraded ESS package from patch9 to 14. In the earlier ESS track we did some custom changes to the DC's and now our concern is to get those changes into new track which we created for new patch. Can any one of you suggest/guide me to get the custom changes from old ESS track to new ESS track without doing any manual coding again. Your answer can really makes our work easier.

Hi Sandeep,
We put every effort to simplfy the process but still we felt the best option was doing the changes manually. We tried merging the code and it doesn't work. But while doing the code changes manualy you can make use of the Web Dynpro meta data comparision tool to identify the changes between old DC and new DC. So that you can easily copy the modified code on to new track with this tool.

Error while accessing a service in ESS

I have uploaded a PDF file in KM, i have created KM document iview for that, in portal content when i triying to priview this iview it is getting opened. I have assigned this as link in in ESS but when i am trying to access this link i am getting an error "Page Cannot be Displayed", when i check the log file i am getting some error.

Earlier we have EP 7 with SP14, at that time link was working fine, later due to some problem we have undeployed and redeployed ESS/MSS - BP and upgraded SP14 to SP18 now we are facing this error, can you just help me out solving this issue.

CBS make fails of SAP_ESS SCA file fails in NWDI 7.0 SP14 after ~4 hours

Hi,
    We wish to do ESS customization in our new NWDI 7.0 SP14 system (on RHEL 4.7). Importing the SAPESS09P_3-20000512.SCA (after importing its dependicies) in a ESS track completed in the Repository-import phase but fails in the next CBS-make phase with a timeout of 14430 seconds (~4 hours). The exact error i am getting is listed below. Is their some way to bump up this timeout value?
   I am new to this and am very interested in what more experienced folks suggest about this.

Well, I restored our NWDI system from an archive backup taken just prior to defining the new XSS Track. I then carefully followed the ESS NWDI Cookbook instructions to create the XSS Track and to import everything (SAP-JEE, SAP-BUILDT, SAP-JTECHS, and SAP-PCUI) except for SAP_ESS. I then archived to tape everything again. That was yesterday.
Today, I kicked off the import of SAP_ESS. So far, so good- it imported into the repository and is now in the process of Activation in the CBS. There have been no problems with threads stuck in the CBS queue in the QUEUED state.
Of course, it has been only 2 hours so far.
About the CBS properties for BUILD_TOOL_JDK_HOME,
JDK_HOME_PATHS and idleStart. Aside from idleStart, i have left them unchanged. But will keep this in mind should the previously mentioned wierd CBS behavior return.
Disk space is a little tight right now. I had 4 GB free before the import of SAP_ESS. Now i have 2 GB free, which seems to be holding. We have a script running to archive and delete the oracle redo logs since they are being generated at a pretty fast rate.
Once i know one way or the other about the success of this, i will post a message.

ESS Who's Who (ECC6, WD) - Error with telephone direct dial link

Hi there -
We are on ECC6, NW 2004s (SP14). I have the following field in our Who's Who 'Output field detail' -
SYHR_A_P0105_AF_TEL_NR - Area code + local access code
Also in config, I have the checkbox DESELECTED for 'Allow direct telephone dialing.'
Issue with Who's Who service:
The telephone number is displayed as a hyperlink. When I click the link, I get the following message: 'Search resulted more than 1500 records, Only first 1500 records is displayed.'
Then if I click the link again, I get a dump: 500 Internal Error,
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.modelimpl.dynamicrfc.WDDynamicRFCExecuteException: Specify a server name , error key: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE
Does anyone know how to get rid of the link - direct dialing is not a requirement for my client. Also - the first error message makes no sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I am stumped.

ESS in MSS for ECC

Has anyone created iViews for ESS in MSS based on the guide "Configuration Guide for ESS in MSS" that is available in service market place?? If so please help me. We are on EP6 SP14.

the configuration of ESS in MSS never was a good solution, because for running that scenario it was necessary to link ESS users to all pernr's. if not, ESS couldn't run, because the evaluation paths of HRORG couldn't run.

ESS - delegated from employee - hr administrator - employee manager

Hi Guys, we are working on customizing of ESS and MSS on Portal. We have ECC 6.0, Portal 7.0 SP14 e BP ESS 1.0 SP12 and BP MSS 1.0.
I have one question for y.
One employee that use ESS funcionality can "delegate" somebody for insert (in case of his absence) his time managment data?
If it's not possible can somebody else like "hr administration" use ESS or MSS funcionality insert employee time managment data? Or hr adiministration can use only back end transaction for insert employee data?
Also Managers can insert and modify data of their employee?
Can y suggest me some documentation or interesting links...
