ESS + ITS

Hello there,
My customer is upgrading from 4.7 to ECC 6. In ESS they have lots of custom services that has HTML templates with in it.
My Question is that during the upgrade process is that ok if we transport all programs, Easy Web Transactions (EWT), Internet Services and *.srvc file & templates to the respective folders/location in the Internal ITS , as we used to do in 4.7 (External ITS ) OR is there any other way that we can do that.
Please share your ideas.

Report is not getting displayed in ESS (ITS version)

Hi ,
I often create reports in ABAP HR and display them in ESS (ITS) .
But this time , report is not displaying the contents of internal table .I have first time used BAPIs to pass the values to internal table .
Is it the reason ??

ESS Its version in SAP ECC 6.0

Hi Guys,
I would like to use ESS its version on WAS 7.00.
With WAS version, I've only integrated ITS (not standalone), activate a webGui Service but I don't know how to start an ESS services on an integrated ITS architecture.
Eg.
in old system with ITS 6.20 and SAP 4.7, we called a service with "http://<hostName>.mycompany.it//scripts/wgate/pzm3/!".
Have any ideas?

ESS-ITS error

Hi all,
   We have installed ITS 6.2 for ESS 4.7 and also EP 6.0 .
Currently we plan to use the same ITS without EP settings(not using business packages).
We havent changed the EP settings n intend to run the ITS services defined for ESS 4.7 through the browser instead through EP.
      When we run the service "PZ00" through the browser,we get the following error:
Interpreter Failed
The Internet Transaction Server failed to generate the response for current request.
Please contact the system administrator.
Internal error code: 0x2101
Also we are not able to run WEbgui service.Error encountered is "Page cannot be displayed".
    Can anyone assist in this?Also will the reinstallation of ITS affect the EP settings(We have installed ITS on the EP server)?

Hi Deepti,
ESS on ITS only should be run through the menu PZM3 which requires configuration before it will run. See R/3 Notes 321439 and 212990.
Installing the ITS on the EP server shouldn't affect it as long as they are using different ports for the HTTP services.

ESS - ITS Services integration with XSS Framework

I have created an Z* scenario for the ESS. All Webdynpro standard iViews that I have customized it is working. Now, I have a ITS service PZ28 (Previous Employers) that was not converted to WebDynpro techonology. I am trying to insert the service into the framework technology but I am having some problems. When I go see the service in the Portals nothing appears, just the tray with the name: XssMenuArea.
Here are the tables that I have customized in the backend:

Just from a quick look here....your server points to ITS but that is not needed since your ITS service will be referenced to the iView which will tell it that information...also....for your resource...
(1) you do not need the URL parameter set to PZ28....this should be done in the iView...that is, you should have created a SAP IAC iview for service PZ28 and then assigned that iview to a page and that page to a role (possibly direct...not good...or through a workset...better).
(2) the URL of the PCD page should be the path when viewing the role down to the page from step #1....so, you will have your role displayed in the content admin/PCD. Then you click the page object to bring up it's properties. Then, copy-and-paste the information for the PCD location over into your config for the resource.
so you should have....
IMG:
area group -> area page -> subarea -> service -> that uses the resource -> that points to portal (ie. the PCD location of the page in the role)
PORTAL:
role -> contains page as referenced above -> contains ITS iview (for PZ28 with system alias to system with ITS defined)
Soooo in all that cumbersome work, you are basically telling your Area page to display the service which is linked to the resource that actually just gives a specific location in the role. When clicked, the URL will "jump" the user over to that part of the role (which of course assumes they will have that role) which will take them right to that specified page. That page has the iView on it that will then display PZ28 (or whatever else).
Yep...a lot of hoops to jump through for something so simple. haha

ESS-ITS services

Hello All,
       We have a standalone ITS(6.2).We have two instances with the same ip for the host ITS machine.
      One of the instances is for r/3 4.7 for ESS.When we execute PZ02 through the browser,we get the same webgui screens.
      Do we have to define the HTML templates for some of the services.g.PZ02??And also these are the standard IAC's provided by SAP for ESS,then why are we gettin the webgui screens for these services???
    Can anyone please help.

there are services (e.g.PZ02) which can run without a HTML template; in this case you have to make sure that serviceparameter "~generatedynpro 1" is set in the service file (e.g. pz02.srvc).

URGENT help on ESS-ITS

ESS Upgrade from ITS - Input needed

Hi,
A question regarding upgrade of ESS. Has any body upgraded from 4.6C to ECC and with ESS services still running on ITS. I mean not upgrading to web dynpro version and just using the services based on internal ITS. Is it feasible ? If so, what kind of pitfalls, errors can we expect.
SAP recommends newer webdynpro version. But want to know if the above scenarios are possible.

It is very possible (I have done it for ECC5 and ECC6 clients that wanted to upgrade first before changing ESS/MSS) but I would advise against it. The newer applications are supported and offer much better functionality (as well as a better "look and feel" in the portal). *If* you decide to go that route, a few things to remember...
(1) You no longer have a "global" service file with integrated ITS....therefore, for ALL of the services you wish to use, you will have to define ALL of the necessary ITS parameters in the service itself (via t-code SICF).
(2) Not all ESS ITS services are supported on integrated ITS (you will have to hunt around to find which ones...I know there is a note out there for it).
(3) You will not find actual ITS services (ie Templates) for all of the services. Some are generated on the fly via the "engine" code that reads the FMs for typical "list-to-detail" services (like addresses, banks, etc). If you have the need to customize these "screens", you will have to generate the ITS service yourself for it and then change the templates accordingly (tedious).
Again, it "can" be done....and might works as a temporary solution, but I would highly suggest getting onto the newer versions as soon as possible.

Leave balance inconsistent in ESS Portal

Goodday all,
I'm stuck here. We are currently on r/3 4.7 and using ESS (ITS Version) via Portal. Recently, we are having problem with one of our leave type. The leave type is not showing the correct balance in ESS leave request. I've checked the absence quota in IT2006 and cross checked with pt_qta10, both are showing the correct result. I've also checked rptkok00 and there were no errors. However, when our user apply for leave via ESS, their balance at the bottom table are showing the wrong value. Any ideas on this?

well i hope you have alreayd installed ITS and you are able to see normal ESS services.
To hots any R/3 transaction, you have to define them as a service. please make entry in table t77www_sc: define a service name, define transaction name, and type of service as "S" (check f4 help for type of service, it should be ITS service).
and then add entry in table t77www_ctp, you can choose any existing ESS catalogue for example "PERS" and add one entry with cobination of that catalogues.

In ESS we are getting SAP GUI screens instead of web screens??

How the problem has come up---
We have transferred the production data and OS into test server and changed the test server IP address to production IP address after shutting down the production server.
Which means that now ITS/ESS will be pointing to the new copied server. After this when this new server was shutdown and old production was started the ESS/ITS points back to the original production server.
Now the problem is that When we execute any transaction from ESS we are getting SAP GUI screen instead of Web screen.
Can somebody tell me why this is happening.
Any pointers to this will be highly appreciated.

First off...what version are you on (backend)? Also, how did you "switch" your ITS instance?A little more info and we will solve this for ya. =)

How to run ESS in EP6.0?

I am using SAP EP6.0 SP2 and want to implement ESS. I have downloaded the package 50.4 and integrated it in EP. When I want to start some applications, I get errors, because I didn't configure any system parameters for the external (HR) SAP system we have. Can somebody tell me, where I have to configure these information?
I don't know which steps also must be done (ITS, etc.), it's my first business package implementation. Is there an online documentation of installing and configuring ESS in EP6.0 step by step?

There are two types of ESS Solution available
1) ESS - ITS Based
2) ESS - Web Dynpro
If you want to use the ESS BP that is based on ITS based ESS services, you have to use a seperate ITS, no matter what version of WAS you have. This is becuase ITS that is now part of WAS 640 doesnt support flow files.
However if you are implementing ESS BP delivered with ERP 2004, you dont need ITS at all.
I think this clears all your doubt.

ESS photo and Collaboration Photo

How can I integrate ESS employee photo whit the Collaboration user photo ....to explain more... from the photo of iView "User Photo Maintenance (Self Service) " and the Change own data iView.
Portal user use UME datasource and not R3 data source. ESS its working fine... and ESS phot are getting from HR.
Any ideas... Any help.. ANy tricks?

Can anyone tell me, in Employee self service, if someone on your behalf(not from your login, from his login) can work
for you like to submit leave request, or travel request etc...in ESS
Its like delegation of activity.

How to customize the ESS 50.4 transactions

You will have 2 parts:
(1) Customize the ESS ITS service. To do so, follow typical ITS IAC programming. I could go into detail here, but the Help.SAP.com information for ITS (found under Basis components->front-end services) is very good and gives tutorials for the various programming models. Bascially, you will have the ITS service and also the ABAP transaction to possibly customize depending on your exact need. Create your custom service, publish it to ITS and viola....ready to go. From here, you can test it by calling the ITS service directly instead of going through the portal....calling via the portal is step #2....
(2) Next, you will need to copy the existing standard iView or create your own and point it to your new "Z" version ITS service instead of the standard one.
That will do it. It gets much more interesting with the newer WebDynrpo ESS services, but let's save that discussion for another day. haha
