  • ESS in EP6 to be upgraded to ESS in EP7

    Hi,
We have requirement for upgrading ESS in EP 6 to ESS in EP7
The existing landscape is EP 6 is integrated to ECC5.0
And the new landscape could be EP 7.0 integrated to ECC 6.0
I have couple of questions here
    1) What is the procedure for doing this?
    2) The Business packages which are deployed in EP 6.0 (which is compatible with ECC 5.0) can be used in EP 7.0 (which must be compatible with ECC 6.0) or we need to deploy new business packages which must be compatible with ECC 6.0
    3) Is there any step by step document available for the same?
Please share the relevant documents if you have
    Regards
    Srinivas

    hi,
As per your message you have EP6.0 ECC5.0 and are trying to go for EP7.0 and ECC6.0
    With respect to your questions:
    1) What is the procedure for doing this?
    > there is no change in the procedure the same would apply here as you followed for EP6.0.
Download the latest SAP_ESS Business Package compatible with ECC6.0 along with the SAP_PCUIGP component.
Deploy the same on the J2EE engine,
Then the rest is same.(Hope this answers your second question also)
    3) Is there any step by step document available for the same?
I dont think anything new here, if required you can search them in SDN itself.
    regards,
    Kris

  • How to enable ESS link  in portal

I need the enable ESS link or provide access permission of ESS in my portal.what can i do for that.can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.
    S.Ramesh

    Hi RK,
I will try to sum up as much as I can and limit to repeat whats already mentioned above (as they are whats needed in certain steps of implementing ESS).
    1) Go to the SAP MarketPlace and via there, you can proceed to SAP PC (or use this https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/contentportfolio).
There are 3 BP for ESS, choose the BP with suit your EP and backend system. Click on the text and you can see the below:
    a) Primary Backend System
    b) Portal Release
    c) iView Runtime Technology
To see your EP version, goto http://<host>:<port>/sap/monitoring/SystemInfo. There you'll find something like sap.com/SAP-JEE 7.00 SPxx, this means, you're on Netweaver 7.00 (formerly 2004s), otherwise you'll see 6.40 (that's Netweaver 2004).
    2) Deploy the selected BP
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/44/fa068634000c4be10000000a11466f/frameset.htm
    3) After deploying the BP, you have to maintain the JCo's for ESS to access your backend system which host your HR.
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/8c/cb3042366c0521e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
    4) In the backend system which host your HR, you have to setup the necessary ESS authorizations. ESS backend are normally to assign SAP_EMPLOYEE_ERP role to employee which is composite role, which contain following roles:
    SAP_BC_EMPLOYEE
    SAP_BC_ENDUSER
    SAP_ESSUSER_ERP
    SAP_HR_EMPLOYEE_DE_ERP
    SAP_HR_EMPLOYEE_US_ERP
    SAP_HR_PA_XF_EXPERT
You can duplicate or maintain the authorization objects for the above mentioned roles (base on what you want them to execute) using PFCG, generate the profiles and complete the user compare.
In summary, your setup Portal for your ESS users to display what they can see via the ESS BP and you can customise what you want them to see (ESS BP provide standard ESS iviews, pages, workset and role but you can create your own page, workset or role and delta link the provided ESS iviews). From the backend system (HR), you set what your ESS users can do via authorisation roles mentioned above. Once you have setup the above, your ESS users can start with their ESS activities.
P.S: As also mentioned above SSO is also a plus point for your users as then they will not have to login when they try to access ESS (backend system) via the Portal.
    Hope that helps.
    Ray

You also need to make the changes in the backend configuration of the Homepage Framework. You could simply set those areas/services display number to 0 (zero) in the config. There are many more posts about this here....jsut search one "homepage framework" for more information.

  • How to display a KM document iView as ESS link

    Hi Experts,
In my project we have already implemented ESS. As per a new requirement, I have stored a page in KM. I have created KM Document iView. In the project we are already having standard link for ESS --> Personal Information --> Personal Data. Right now this is pointing to a standard iView. I would like to call KM document iView when the user clicks on ESS --> Personal Information --> Personal Data. How we can do so? I tried changing the spro setting in following way
    1) I have created iView. The PCD location is as below:
    pcd:portal_content/com.aa.all.folder.sabic/com.aa.ep.folder.enterprise_portal/com.aa.portal.folder.iviews/com.aa.portal.folder.singapore_ess/com.sabic.portal.iview.aa.coming_soon
    2) In the spro, I selected resource. I create a new resource called ZESS_SERV_COMING_SOON_SG
    3) I set URL of Resource Object as
    ROLES://portal_content/com.aa.all.folder.sabic/com.aa.ep.folder.enterprise_portal/com.aa.portal.folder.iviews/com.aa.portal.folder.singapore_ess/com.sabic.portal.iview.aa.coming_soon
    4) In the spro, I selected the node 'Define Services' for standard link ESS --> Personal Information --> Personal Data. Here I changed the service type to 'Call a Portal Page (PCD)'. I also changed Linked Resource to ZESS_SERV_COMING_SOON_SG.
    5) I logged off and again logged into Portal. However, I can not see the link altogether for ESS --> Personal Information --> Personal Data.
    6) Please let me know what is wrong with my method.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Gaurav

    Hi All,
Thanks for the help. The issue got resolved. I am writing the solution here for the benefit of SDN users
    1) Create iView
    2) Create Page
    3) Attach page in the Role
    4) Go to newly created resource. URL of PCD page should be filled up with the value. ROLE://.... path of page in the role.

  • ESS Links not working

    Hi All,
I have deployed the ESS 600 SP 11and PCUIGP 600 SP 11 on EP 7 SP 11 system with the backend as ECC 6.0.
Now I am getting the ESS overview and other pages with the links. But when I click on any link its not taking me anywhere.
To make the link navigate  to the respective pages do I need to do any configurations? Please let me know.
    Regards,
    Purush.

    For the third time now:
The SAP_EMPLOYEE_ERP role is probably not GENERATED!
Transaction PFTC => enter the role. Go to roles, double click on all the roles. Go into change, and choose generate. The authorization tab page has to have a GREEN icon.
Than it should work. You should indeed not assign your users a SAP_ALL profile

  • ESS link in Outlook express

    Hi friends
My client wants when ever a workitem gets in the UWL a email has to notify that a workitem has come. I know that there is a report program RSWUWFML2 and configuration of this report with correct varient you can achieve it.
I have followed the following link
    Link: [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/display/abap/workitemintimationintheemail]
The link describes the SAP R/3 login screen. But i want Portal login screen. How to achieve it.
    Regards
    vijay

Are you on 4.7 or ECC 6.0 version ?
If you are on ECC 6.0, user SWNCONFIG configuration. In that you can specify link of the portal which is displayed in the email sent to the user whenever workitem arrives in the inbox.

  • Urgent -Confirmation screen links in ESS in Webdynpro -ABAP

    Hi,
This is very urgent. I am doing one custome service in ESS in WEBDYNPRO ABAP.
In my custome service, I need to put ESS Links in confirmation page .
as GO TO ESS Home page
        GO PERSONAL INFORMATION HOME PAGE
        GO TO WORKLOCATION DETAILS
For this i created URL links but this is not working fine.
Can you provide any setting needs to be done in Webdynpro abap to place these confirmation links.

    Hi Chidipotu,
    You can consider:
    1. Using portal eventing (object based navigation/absolute/relative navigation) as this appears (to me) as you want to navigate to entirely different i-Views.
    2. If you are not portal integrated, you can consider placing LinktoAction UI elements in whose action handlers you can fire custom (outbound) plugs to load different views.
    HTH,
    Adithya
    PS:
IMO you can consider leaving out the "urgent" in the subject next time round, as the average response time on SDN is less than 30 mins anyway! (and has a miniscule probability of changing with such intended psychological expeditors!!)

  • IMG Customizations For ESS In ECC 6.0

    Hi Gurus,
I'm stuck with some IMG customization issues. I can see the Overview page and each area group pages for diff applications. Like Employee Search, Personal Information etc. But whenever i'm clicking on the links it is openning up a blank screen.
Please give me some example how to configure the server in IMG like its path, port etc? Apart from this any examples for service creations for each application.
According to SAP help material i also cant find any place to put the System ID in the iviews like Who Is Who, Change Own data!
Please help me out! If any one can share any document it will be great.
    Thanks

Customize Icons for the Homepage Framework

Although there is excellent material around and even step-by-step guides for configuring and customizing the Homepage Framework (*see the document "XSS Homepage Framework for Employee Self-Service" by Sibylle Borhauerm-Product Manager, SAP AG), I have found nothing available that provides information about customizing the actual icons/images that are used within the framework. Therefore, I took the DIY (do-it-yourself) approach and decided to put together a document of my own to hopefully help others. The following is an explanation about how to customize and/or add new icons for the Homepage Framework. This is based on my experience with ECC5.0, but a similar approach should work for ECC6.0.
    Background
The Homepage Framework is a new feature as of ECC5.0 (“mySAP ERP 2004” for those that want to be thoroughly confused….haha). It is basically a means to build very informative, aesthetically consistent web pages solely through configuration in the IMG (no web coding needed!). It allows you to organize information in a more user-friendly manner. For example, prior to this, ESS services were typically listed as links on a menu on the left of the browser window (like the detailed navigation area of the portal). The user would click the fairly non-descript link and be taken to a web application that contained even less helpful information or description and was more “techy” in appearance. This was not very friendly or intuitive to end users who may not have much familiarity with computers at all. Often times, I would have to build static web pages for clients that would serve to provide help information to the user about what the actual ESS links would do and so forth and to serve as a “jumping off point”. With the Homepage Framework, you can configure (again…no coding!) a “jumping off” page that summarizes all the areas you offer in ESS (called the Area Group page in the Homepage Framework), and then configure more detailed information pages for each area as well (called Area pages in the Homepage Framework).
    ESS Area Group Page
ESS Area Page for Benefits and Pay
    Where is my Framework?
With any “framework”, as the name implies, there is a fairly rigid layout. This insures consistency amongst the pages. For the Homepage Framework, each “area” is assigned an icon. The icon should visually convey the idea of the “area”. For example, for an area for “Working Time”, you might use a “clock” icon. The icons assigned to each Area appear on the Area Group page as well as the respective Area page. By default, there are only a small number of “out of the box” icons that are provided. I took the time to document the default images and their corresponding “resource” name in a spreadsheet. An image of this appears below:
    Default Icons
The big question (and one I see asked over and over) is "where does all this stuff live?". This is one of the misconceptions and/or hurdles to overcome in understanding the newer ESS/MSS SAP offerings. With ECC5.0 and higher, most people incorrectly assume that by installing/deploying the ESS/MSS business package(s) that they suddenly have all of ESS/MSS available to them. Wrong. It's an easy mistake to make because "that's how it's always been before". The actual deployment of the overall solutions for ECC and onward requires two pieces. You still deploy the business package, but the business package only covers the portal objects. All you are doing is loading in the out-of-the-box iViews, worksets, pages ,roles, etc. Now what will your iViews “talk” too? The second part is the actual ESS/MSS/XSS services, ie. the applications that "do stuff". At the moment, these are Java Webdynpros and are part of the "Java XSS Components" installation. These components can be installed on any WAS/NWAS, but typically they are deployed on the same server as the Enterprise Portal...just more Java web applications running on the Java engine (again, they could be deployed to an entirely separate WAS/NWAS but we won't get into that). Part of the Java components installation is the Homepage Framework WebDynpro and the accompanying icon images as resource files. The images are not in the Business Package, and they are not not in the backend SAP system. Both are common misconceptions.
    Make it your own!
So now that we know what we are working with and where everything is, how do we change it? First, let me offer this advice. I would not modify and existing icon (replace “clock.gif” with a different image named “clock.gif”. I always create my own custom images. In that way, if all else fails, we still have the SAP delivered content. “Better safe, than sorry!” as my grandfather, an explosives specialist, used to always say. With my word of warning offered, onward we go now. Let's do this through an example. Say for instance, we want to change the icon used for "Working Time" in ESS. The default icon and Area page might appear as:
    Working Time Area Page
If we look in configuration, we find that the icon used is actually assigned to two resources:
    •     EMPLOYEE_WORKTIME_PIC
    •     MSS_HCM_AREA_ATTENDANCE_PIC
Since we are changing the ESS one, it’s configuration appears as:
    Default Configuration of Resource
Now, let’s say we have our own image:
    myCompany_clock.gif
First, we can change configuration of the resource to now use (“look for”) our custom image:
    Customized Configuration of Resource
Now, we must actually put the image in the location where the Homepage Framework can find it. As I said before and want to make clear once more, the images are not in the Business Package. They are deployed as part of the Java XSS components. Therefore, we must place our custom image out in the same physical directory that the other resources were deployed to during the installation of the XSS Java components. Using our example, let's look at the "clock" image. I could go into detail telling you where and how this is found, but I prefer to show you the simple way. In your browser, navigate to the “Working Time” Area page as shown above. If you right-click on the default icon and then select “Save Picture As…” from the context menu, a window will pop-up showing you the name of the image file as “calendar_clock.gif “ (we also know the file name from the configuration of the resource shown above). Now that you know the actual name, you can simple do a “View Source” on the page and then search for the occurrence of “calendar_clock.gif “. Doing this, we see that it is deployed and linked to the path as follows:
        ../../../resources/sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils/Components/com.sap.xss.ser.xssmenu.vc.areagroup.VcXssMenuAreaGroup/calendar_clock.gif
Therefore, we simply need to move/copy our own “myCompany_clock.gif” into the path:
        ../../../resources/sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils/Components/com.sap.xss.ser.xssmenu.vc.areagroup.VcXssMenuAreaGroup/
This may require additional help if you do not know where (what server) the Java components were installed on or you do not have direct access to those directories. With the file copied over and our configuration changes to the backend resource to use our custom image, our “Working Time” Area page now displays using our custom icon:
    Cusotmized Working Time Area Page
    Gotchas!
These are a few things to be aware of if you have problems seeing your custom changes (these apply to any changes to the Homepage Framework configuration):
    •     Make sure you have copied your configuration to the correct client that is in use. Typically, you will configure in one client and then test in another. You can use transaction SCC1 to copy client-to-client transports, if you have access to that function. The Homepage Framework config is client-dependent.
    •     If you do not see changes in the portal immediately, it is typically due to the cache not being refreshed. You can do this via the System Administration - >Support area of the portal for the PCD content. You can also set a parament to clear the buffer directly on the iView for the Area and Area Group iViews but this is not suggested for performance reasons.

  • How to assign candidate to already existing ESS users

    Hi all,
We implemented ESS in EP7.0 with ECC6.0 backend.we have already created ess users and asigned to employees.there is a problem with career and jobs workset.I checked in ST22.It is showing No candidate is assigned to the employee or user. How to create a candidate for the existing ESS users.I know the report RCF_CREATE_USER.But i think it is for new users. But I want to asign a candidate for the existing Ess users.Any suggestions please.
    thanx & regards,
    rajesh

You are right, the report is also used for hirings with future start date. For hiring on date or in past the candidate is created directly / synchronous by the integration implementation. Similar to the data synchronization in E-recruiting 600.
If you hire someone with a start date in the future you need the report scheduled. But as i said just scheduling the report won't help if you did not set up the integration properly.
Btw: before running the report check all available updates. Last customer had to put in 19 notes to get it running.
Btw2: You can check the attachment on note 997181 on more details for the whole integration topic.

  • ESS 50.4 for r/3 4.7 Ext 2

    Hi
The system i am working on has the following spec:
    System info:
    R/3 4.7 Ext 2.0
    EP 601.5
    WAS 6.4
    ESS Business package 50.4
    MSS Business package 60.1
When i click on any MSS link on portal, e.g., My Staff -> it displays the data in iview for phone book and iview 'Attendance overview' etc.
However, when i try the ESS links e.g, Working Time -> Leave request, it open up the SAP easy access screen with error "Transaction CONT unknown'.
Can you please guide me how to get this thing working.
Also, can someone kindly refer to me the correct documentation for ESS 50.4 for R/3 4.7 either from SDN, service marketplace or help.sap.com
Appreciate any help  you can provide.
    Thank you
    Best regards,
    Zubair

    Hi Deepak,
Thank you so much for you answer. Just out of curiousity from where we can see this informattion? Is it true that for R/3 4.7 only ITS version is supported not webdynpro? How do we give points in SDN in case our query is answered?
I found the link /message/5208591#5208591 [original link is broken] which talks about
ESS and MSS releases, still being new I am not able to locate the exact information needed.
If you don't mind can I have your contact number, your knowledge might be very helpful to me.
    Thanks and warm regards,
