ESS on ITS

Hi,
I am part of a SAP HR Implementation (my SAP ERP 2004). Without going for Enterprise Portal, how do we go about implementing SAP ESS on ITS. Is there any alternative to SAP EP for developing a Web FrontEnd (GUI) for ESS?

Thanks Raja. I have got some more concerns.
There are licensed ESS users which have to be mapped to the SAP R/3 User Licenses. In case of Enterprise Portal, We use predefined Business Packages that has got all the standard functionalities that SAP ESS has got. Additionally we can develop Portal Content as per the client requirements. But in case we are goin for ESS without EP, lot of authentification and authorization work has to be done.
Could someone also provide me with a case study of a ESS Implementation on the ITS Server using mySAP ERP.
It is also important to note that ESS licenses are required for all the employees of an organisation. (Say 10000 in my case) whereas SAP User licenses are limited. (Say 300 in my case).
Please share your inputs.

    Hi Gary,
    The E-Recruitment package is completely separate from ESS.  While the standard ESS package contains an area (Career and Job) that can point to E-Recruitment functionality, it does not include this functionality by itself.
    To answer your question, neither ESS nor E-Recruitment necessarily need each other to be there first, but because of the advantages of running SAP products together, it would be most efficient to have your HCM implementation (with or without ESS) up first before implementing E-Recruitment in order to maximize your efficiency of people data management.

  • Inconsistencies when EP Accessing ESS through ITS

    Hi,
    I have a standard system of EP6 accessing ESS applications through ITS. When I access some of the iviews, they work fine both from client PCs as well as from the server.
    But, when I access some of the pages (say SAP Inbox), it works only from server. It does not get displayed when I try to access from client PCs.
    I have checked that the R3 transaction type and the service files within ITS are identical for both scenarios.
    Any idea what might cause this issue.

    Hello,
    You can poublish the templates from your R/3 system. 
    1) You need to setup your IACOR service on your ITS.
    2) You need to configure your ITS destination in R/3 using Tcode SE80 -> Click "Utilities -> Settings"  Once the popup box come up click the Internet Transcation Server tab and  click "Publish"  choose your ITS that you defined in the IACOR setup and click the green check mark.
    3) From Se38 run "W3_PUBLISH_SERVICES" Enter an "*" for package and run the program.  Once the system returns click"Publish"
    You should now have all of the SAP provided ESS templates.

    Hi,
      This kind of problem is known when webgui is being started from an IAC, e.g. HRWPC_FC_EXEC
    You have to set parameter ~webgui_popups 1 in the service file of this IAC.

  • ESS-ITS error

    Hi all,
       We have installed ITS 6.2 for ESS 4.7 and also EP 6.0 .
    Currently we plan to use the same ITS without EP settings(not using business packages).
      We havent changed the EP settings n intend to run the ITS services defined for ESS 4.7 through the browser instead through EP.
          When we run the service "PZ00" through the browser,we get the following error:
    Interpreter Failed
    The Internet Transaction Server failed to generate the response for current request.
    Please contact the system administrator.
    Internal error code: 0x2101
      Also we are not able to run WEbgui service.Error encountered is "Page cannot be displayed".
        Can anyone assist in this?Also will the reinstallation of ITS affect the EP settings(We have installed ITS on the EP server)?

    Hi Deepti,
    ESS on ITS only should be run through the menu PZM3 which requires configuration before it will run.  See R/3 Notes 321439 and 212990.
    Installing the ITS on the EP server shouldn't affect it as long as they are using different ports for the HTTP services.

  • How to remove the "table control" icon in ITS based ESS screen

    Hi All,
    I have upgraded my external ITS 620 to patch level 28. Earlier we were on patch 04.
    Since then I am seeing the table control in my ESS screens (ITS Based),
    In some thread i got to know that the table control is totally redefined / modified from patch 22 of ITS.
    Is it possible that we can remove / hide the table control from the screens.
    I dont want to let the users access the "Table Settings" screen at all....can u plz tell me how to do it

    we could not remove the table control...it seems like we can not remove it as the table control also appears in the r3 screens also..

  • ESS Benefits Generic Enrollment - Different behavior backend v/s portal

    We are using the ESS Benefits generic enrollment service for enrollment kicking off the adjustment reasons on IT 0378.
    Here is the configuration set up, trying to simplify to explain the matter. We are on ECC 6.0 with EHP2.
    1.  Configured one plan type in savings category.
    2.  Within this plan type,  configured 2 plans.
    3.  Configured all other related configuration to set up the 2 plans.
    4. Configured the adjustment reason and the appropriate plan type created in step 2.
    5.  Created the required adjustment reason on 378.
    In HRBEN0001 transaction via backendwe can  see the 2 plans configured within the plan type.
    But when Trying to enroll from ESS - only one plan can be seen for that plan type, the other plan is not shown at all.
    OK - eventually, debugged and found this piece of code in FM HR_BEN_ESS_FILL_SELECTION_DISP.  The 2 different plans are there until this piece of code takes one of them Off...

    This FM is called only for ESS application and not for backed program.

    Thanks for your reply. Yes ESS has its own FMs.  The UI, user exits, BADIs etc are different for backend v/s front end.
    What we are not clear with, is the different behavior in core functionality --  i.e. When the adjustment reason is processed from the backend using HRBEN0001 - The 2 plans within the Plan Type are available for elections. BUT the same adjustment reason for the same penr when processed from  ESS - there is just one plan available for elections.
    It's clear from the code, that it is deleting one plan and this code is within the FM which is called only from ESS.  But we are still not sure why it should behave differently i.e. 2 plans via backend v/s one plan  via ESS. 
    Wanted to see if anyone can share any information if they have a similar benefits set up .. 2 plans within one plan type FOR savings plan category and then having a adjustment reason set up.

    Hi Portal Gurus,
    Our client has already ESS applications like PERSONAL INFORMATION,BENEFITS AND PAYMENTS.
    They have copied the content into XXX folder. All the customized and live content is present in
    YYY folder.
    Now they are planning to implement WORKING TIME and TRAVEL and EXPENSES.
    I would like to know which would be the best practice going ahead.
    1.Shall i copy the WORKING TIME and TRAVEL and EXPENSES content into YYY folder and make the changes.If this is the case , if i want to move this content to Quality system, shall i create a Transport package for all YYY folder content or just WORKING TIME and TRAVEL and EXPENSES content.
    If i create package for entire content ,is it going to override the live content.
    2. Shall i create another folder called ZZZ and put all my content in that,which will be easy for transporting.
    If this is the case then what about the role.There will be only one role for ESS.Then its a duplication.
    Kindly guide me what is the best practice.

    When you create a transport package, there is an important property to make a note of "Resolve References".
    If this set to NO, the references are not included in the transport. You might want to set it to NO for the ROLE transport after your changes.
    Now, to answer your question - organizing your PCD content within folders is usually done based on the type of the objects (iviews, pages, worksets, roles) and also on the scope of the application. You will also want to use folders within folders to separate content.
    I am not sure if you have any sub folders under XXX and YYY in your case.
    You may choose to put your new content under the existing YYY folder as long you have some kind of sub-folders to separate out the new content (which will make your life easier for maintenance). You do not need to necessarily create all your new content a brand new higher level folder.
    Have a look at the standard folder structure for ESS content under Content Provided by SAP - End User Content - Employee Self Service for a reference.

  • What skills needed to enable ESS and MSS in ECC6.0?

    We are upgrading to ECC6.0 from 5.0.  We have been using MSS and ESS (old ITS version of ESS) for 5 to ten years.  What skillsets does my HCM IT team need in order to enable this functionality?  I have been trying to find classes on BSP pages and Webdynrpo without success.

    On ECC 6.0 with EHP 4, you would need Business Package 1.41 for ESS/MSS.
    Lets call it right, its not EP 7, its called NW 7.0. Yes, upgrading to NW 7.0 is required for EHP 4.
    Once again, EHP 4 is too fresh to implement. Recommended solution is ECC 6 with EHP 3, Business Package 1.3 and NW 7.0.
    Apply the latest service patches for a smoother ride.

  • ESS XSS delivered with SAP ERP 2004 compatible with SAP 4.7?

    Hi,
    I was wondering if anyone has sought to implement the latest version of ESS (for SAP ERP 2004) for a SAP 4.7 backend?  Is this at all compatible?
    I have implemented ESS 50.4 on EP6 SR1 and this works fine with a backend SAP 4.7, but I am interested in knowing whether the newer version of ESS (non-ITS) is compatible with SAP 4.7.  I am thinking not, but any experiences of others would be useful.

    If you are concerned about ITS rendition of WEBGui content, then according to OSS Note# <b>197746</b> the WAS6.4 Integratred ITS should do the job.
    Yet, till I get my hands wet with custom ESS 50.4 ITS templates upgraded to EP6.4 SP9, then I can assure the results.

    "As of release 6.40 of SAP Web Application Server the SAP Web AS Kernel includes a subcomponent called "SAP Integrated ITS". This component is the successor of the "standalone" ITS releases up to and including release 6.20. Since this component is integrated into SAP Web AS the rules that apply to the Kernel also apply to the SAP Integrated ITS.
    Information on patches and maintenance periods for SAP Web AS Kernel can be found in OSS notes 19466 and 138704.
    The Integrated ITS can only be used to run SAP GUI for HTML and IACs of the SAP System it is part of. Therefore there are no longer questions in regards to downward or upward compatability. Since the Integrated ITS consists of executables being part of the Kernel and templates, MIMES, etc. being part of SAP_BASIS you can only use the Integrated ITS if you have both SAP Web AS Kernel 6.40 and SAP_BASIS 6.40 or higher installed."

    In ESS leaves, ITS version, SAP 4.6c ..  how to let the department secretary to apply or extend his leave of behalf of their department employee if he is away and to able to access his/ her Portal? They are not having PA30 and not able to do in PA71 or any HR leave transaction, is there any way if the employee not able to access his portal ..

    Yes, Travel Mgmt is a seperate component and do not have any dependencies with ESS/MSS. You can implement it without ESS/MSS and EP.
    If your client is on ECC 6.0, EHP 2 and above, it is possible to use web applications (WebDynpro ABAP) for the below scenarios.
    - Employees can raise travel request, submit expense report to their reporting mgr. These requests can go thru the approval process. In this case, it is required that employees should have login credentials. License required.
    - Travel administrators can raise request and expense report on behalf of employees using Web Applications.
    - It is possible to access these web applications using URL on Browser. Or by using NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC).
    - In later stage, when the client goes for ESS/MSS, its very easy to integrate with it and there is no further impl. cost for travel during that time.
