ESS overview icons

I want to change the icons used for the ESS overview.
I know that the icons are referenced as a picture resources within the definition of the area pages; and I know that the resources are defined within the definition of resources - all set within IMG.
What I can't workout is how to add my own icons.
I've played around with defining server resources and defining resources for types URL, File and Http.
But I don't seem to be able to point to any of my own pictures.
Can anyone bail me out?

Hi all,
1) I need to add customized pictures on the ESS Overview screen i.e., New Pictures to be displayed for each services
(How should i add Customized pictures in "Picture Resource:...
in Area Page)
eg: Against Employee Search customized ICON to be dislaye
presently it takes "EMPLOYEE_SEARCH_PIC"
2) Also there are few links when i am clicking on those it opens in the New Window. Can anyone pls suggest how to restric this?

(1) Best way....store your pics somewhere (like KM for instance which is quick and easy). Config your own Homepage Framework server (to point to the location of pics), then create a resource in config for each pic (giving you server id you configed and any other path info), then assign YOUR resource as the pic to use for the area. This is similar to storing pages as detailed here:
Using KM documents for XSS Area Page text
(2) This can be either (a)the resource has been defined with a window parameter of "_blank" which means "open in a new window" or (b) as the above user said, controlled on the iView of the service (which is rare but is possible).

Hi,
You should first upload the picture i the MIME repository.
(GOTO se80, click mime repository and add MIME object i.e in ur case an gif image)
Go to T7xssserres, when you create the resource for the picture, give the path if the mime object in the 'Directory path' property of the resource.
say you have added the image under 'SAP/BC/PUBLIC/ICONS' in the mime repository and the name of the file is newicon.gif, then while creating resource, give the 'directory path' as 'SAP/BC/PUBLIC/ICONS' and the object name as 'newicon.gif'.

ESS Overview page

Hi all,
Please can you help?
We have to create an new Area Page on the ESS Overview page in the portal for the Universal Worklist.
I have created a Workset containing the Universal Worklist iView in the portal and have added the Workset to the ESS role directly.
I have provided the link of UWL Workset to the HR consultant to add to link to the new Area Page in SPRO.
When we try to access the Universal link directly from the Overview page it takes to a new window that looks exactly like the u201Cmainu201D ESS Overview page but it only contains the UWL area page with an icon. Instead of opening up the page to see the UWL.
In other words it does the following ESS > Overview page > UWL Overview page. instead of ESS > Overview page > UWL iview

Hi,
The behaviour you are facing is standard as the HR consultant has created Area page, Sub Area page etc. Ask the HR consultant to select the option "Quick Link" for the UWL resource she has created. This will present a direct link to the UWL iview in the Home page.
But the UWL overview page link will also be there and I don't think u can avaoid it.

What's the type of appilication you have developed, is it WDABAP based or ...
Ask your portal consultant to create an iview for your application based on your application type (I.e WD ABAP/Transaction code etc) and assign that to page and then under role of ESS for Work & Time workset in portal content admin.

Adding an ABAP Webdynpro app to the ESS overview screen

I am trying to add an ABAP webdynpro page to the ESS overview screen, I have managed to add URLs without a problem and have found a tutorial to add Java Webdynpro pages however this does seem to apply to ABAP webdynpro.

what problem are you facing in adding.
you can create an iview for the WDA application and in the HomePage Framework you can create resources and services which will point to that iview and add that service to the ESS Overview.

ESS Overview for multiple systems

Hi Guys,
Currently we have EP 7 portal, with 3 R/3 clients at the back end, 1 client for each department, so for each ESS iview, we need to have 3 copies with different property "Application Parameter", such as:
sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_HumanResources:001&sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData:001
sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_HumanResources:002&sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData:002
sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_HumanResources:003&sap-wd-arfc-useSys=SAP_R3_HumanResources_MetaData:003
but this setting is not working for ESS Overview iview, no matter which clients we specify, it will still point to default client (Which is used for user authentication), if we click on the link on Overview, it will go to the iview of default client.
Any idea on how to specify client for overview iview?

I don't think that he having problems in creating R3 systems in the portal landscape. He can't access 3 different R3 system with the ESS/MSS application.
The problem in this case is, that the ESS business package is using predefined JCos like Human_Resources, etc. The usage of these JCos is coded into the source code of the application.
I believe it's not possible to use more than 1 HCM system with the ESS business package in 1 portal. Maybe this is an solution:
create for every HCM 1 portal: 3 HCM = 3 Portals
To facilitate the access to the 3 portal, create a FPN (Federated Portal Network).
1 Consumer, 3 Producer (or 1 Consumer with 1 ESS and 2 producers for the other 2 ESS / HCM)

New Tab in ESS overview Page.

Hi gurus,
i want to add a new tab on the ESS overview page which on click will open one web page (Http://sdn.sap.com)
i have created resource and given the url in "URL for Resource Object" and
created a Area with linking the resource with "Area link type" as direct url launched in separate window.
but still is is not appearing in ESS overview page.

You must have created a resource for this new link in R/3 Homepage framework...
Now you must have created a service using this resource....
Now assigned this service to sub-area
And then assign this sub area to an area....
Now assign this area to used group area page...that already contain existing areas....
If you are missing on any above step than you will face the problem that you are now getting.
Tell us which step you are missing on...I will elaborate further.

Screen layout changeing according to overview icon

Hi all.
I have one question.
When I use 'pa30', I can see a couple of provided icons.
When I choose overview icon among them, Screen is displeyed.
I'd like to change layout of this screen.
How am I doing for that?
Probably, Is it possible by setting 'IMG'?
For example> I choose PA30, and register personnel number.
And I choose infotype '0021' and press a 'overview icon'.
And then, screen is displayed as follows.
Type,Name,No,Last Name,First Name, Registration NO, etc
I'd like to add stuff like begda and endda.
I want to represent screen layout as follows.
begda, endda,Type,Name,No,Last Name,First Name, Registration NO, etc

We want to hide purchasing from ESS overview page

Hi experts,
Please suggest me the best procedure to remove the purchasing from ess overview page . where i can do that . we are not having NWDS . Can we do it from Portal ? if yes ? how ?

Hi,
Its actually quite easy, you just have to select yes in "invisible navigation area"
Steps:
1. go to Content Administration > Portal Content
2. Akses the folder Portal Content > Content Provided by SAP > End User Content > Employee Self Service > Roles > double click Employee Self Service ( i'm assuming you are using standard ess role, if not the navigate to your custom ESS role)
3. New window show on the right pane
4. Double Click Purchasing, property editor is now updated showing property editor - purchasing
5. Scroll down until you find "invisible navigation areas", select Yes
6. Save and Relogin

Can we show abap report(z t-code) in ESS through icon(besides leavemanage)

we have zreports done in R3 .(through dialog programing)they display in r/3 through Tcode.
These reports are for HR purpose.
when a user logs into ESS,he should be able to use these reports.
the user needs to click an icon besides that of exsisting ones in his ESS.(the exsisting ones are LEAVE MANAGMENT,HR FORMS,etc)A new icon will be created for this purpose(lets say HR REPORTS).
When the USer clicks on this icon,he will see 6 links for 6 reports.
Each link will then open the report.
How can we acheive this?
One solution presented was,a TAB besides that of ESS.But we would like to navigate through ESS.(like we do for LEAVE MANAGMENT).
Please suggest,all ways,easiest way.
I ahve a feeling that there are many ways to acheive this,but theres some real smart solution which will work out in very less time.

First create seperate iviews for all the reports(can be t-code iviews or IAC iviews)
All the links in ESS that appear inside a iview/page are services defined in SPRO. So create the services in the SPRO, then give the names, map the services with sub areas. Make sure these services are PCD type and give the PCD location of the iviews you created. Thats it your work is done...
or the other way..
Create a WDJava iview which lists all the reports you have to access, then in each link give the pcd location of the corrosponding iviews, then add this page/iview to ESS role, so that it comes under ESS Role...
Other Way...
Create iviews for all the reports you want to access...
put all these iviews inside a single page and map this page to ESS Role....
So that user can see the list of reports in detail navigation and on click he can see the corrosponding report....
These are some of the ways I thought of...

We are having a requirement of calling a url of Abap Webdynpro application on click of a Button for a overview screen of ESS Family application .So i have created an action button for that but i am not able to find out how to call a url in that action methode. Please Suggest me.

Just a suggestion.If somehow you crate one more iveiw and add it to the bzcard page then i think you could dispaly both the bizcard and the other wd application on the same ui.

How to change the layout of area pages in ESS Overview.

Dear Experts,
Area groups like Leave, directory,payslip are presented on portal in a layout which is fixed in backend ESS customization eg postions(1,2...).
Can I change the layout of these areas in portal?
I tried doing this by going to overview iview and preview and then ctrl+click. I could see containers for each area group but I could not modify their sequence?
Please help!!!
