ESS Overview page EP 7

Hi there,
Please can someone assist me?
We are using <b>EP7</b> (ECC6) and our client only wants to use certain functionality of ESS.
For e.g.
ESS role consist of the overview page and one of the links/workset on the overview page is called <i>Working Time</i> and this consist of the following Worksets:
-     Working time
-     Leave Request
-     Clock in/Out Corrections
-     Time statement
<u>The client only wants to use the Leave Request workset.</u>
1. How can I remove the other Worksets from the overview page?
2. How can I add my own URL iViews to the overview page?
Many thanks in advance
Jo-lize

Hi ,
To just give you an overview , you have area group pages -> which have area pages ->  sub areas -> services ->Resources
Eveything is defined under transaction SPRO -> Home page framework
Define resource - > define additional links , custom apps etc here
Define service -> link that to a resource
Add to a current area or create a new area page and add service to it.
Finally add your area page to the main ess page..

  • ESS Overview page

    Hi all,
    Please can you help?
We have to create an new Area Page on the ESS Overview page in the portal for the Universal Worklist.
I have created a Workset containing the Universal Worklist iView in the portal and have added the Workset to the ESS role directly.
I have provided the link of UWL Workset to the HR consultant to add to link to the new Area Page in SPRO.
When we try to access the Universal link directly from the Overview page it takes to a new window that looks exactly like the u201Cmainu201D ESS Overview page but it only contains the UWL area page with an icon. Instead of opening up the page to see the UWL.
In other words it does the following ESS > Overview page > UWL Overview page.  instead of ESS > Overview page  > UWL iview
    Many thanks
    Jo-lize Dekker

    Hi,
The behaviour you are facing is standard as the HR consultant has created Area page, Sub Area page etc. Ask the HR consultant to select the option "Quick Link" for the UWL resource she has created. This will present a direct link to the UWL iview in the Home page.
But the UWL overview page link will also be there and I don't think u can avaoid it.
    Cheers

  • New Tab in ESS overview Page.

    Hi gurus,
i want to add a new tab on the ESS overview page which on click  will  open one web page (Http://sdn.sap.com)
i have created resource and given the url in "URL for Resource Object"  and
created a Area with linking the resource  with "Area link type" as direct url launched in separate window.
but still is is not appearing in ESS overview page.
    tell me where i went
    Regards
    K Naveen Kishore

You must have created a resource for this new link in R/3 Homepage framework...
Now you must have created a service using this resource....
Now assigned this service to sub-area
And then assign this sub area to an area....
Now assign this area to used group area page...that already contain existing areas....
If you are missing on any above step than you will face the problem that you are now getting.
Tell us which step you are missing on...I will elaborate further.

  • We want to hide purchasing from ESS overview page

    Hi experts,
Please suggest me the best procedure to remove the purchasing from ess overview page . where i can do that . we are not having NWDS . Can we do it from Portal ? if yes ? how ?
    Please let me know
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Its actually quite easy, you just have to select yes in "invisible navigation area"
    Steps:
    1. go to Content Administration > Portal Content
    2. Akses the folder Portal Content > Content Provided by SAP > End User Content > Employee Self Service > Roles > double click Employee Self Service  ( i'm assuming you are using standard ess role, if not the navigate to your custom ESS role)
    3. New window show on the right pane
    4. Double Click Purchasing, property editor is now updated showing property editor - purchasing
    5. Scroll down until you find "invisible navigation areas", select Yes
    6. Save and Relogin
    Hope it helps

  • Reports overview page for BI Portal looks like ESS overview page

    Hi Experts,
i am implimenting FPN environment with BI portal,I have lot of BI reports roles in my system, now i have a requirement to develop an overview page having all BI reports,it looks like a ESS overveiw page. How can I create this page, can any body please suggest me?
    Thanks ,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
As you wrote "i selected different pic from standard list, but it is displaying one standard pic only."
I hope you want to change the picture of Headings only ie your workset in above mentioned case right ??
To change the picture go the role->then select added workset -> then open properties of worset ->now look for the
Pictogram  properties of workset here from drop down select your desired pic and save the changes.
Now open portal the look for the changes ie new logo for the heading.
If  new picture is not coming the try to clear the portal caches and check again .... other way to get the changes remove the
assigned role from user and change the role id and assign to user again now you will get new changes
    without clearing  the cache.
    how to add custom pic?
To add custom pic you need to add the new pictures in the par file called  com.sap.portal.navigation.mimeservice.par
So download the this par file from ROOT/WEB-INF/deployment/temp this location from Portal support , even you can copy from server too.
Now import the par file in NWDS and copy your new pic in images directory ..now build the par file again and
upload it on portal. But here new images will only appear in drop down list when you portal is restarted.
I hope you know how to import par in NWDS  don't forget to add required jar file in both the lib folders.
There can be other way also to change the picture where portal restart is not needed . So if you don't want to change in this way then search for other method and let me know also.

  • How to change the look of the ESS Overview page

    Hi,
We are implementing ESS/MSS and would like to change the look (font size and color, background color, ...) of only the Overview page (Area Group Page). From what I understand when a theme (css) is used it is applied to an entire Portal Desktop, not to a single page. And since the Overview page is a Web Dynpro application (part of the Floor Plan Manager), it doesn't seem possible to change the look besides using themes.
Of course we would like to keep the possibility to configure this page using IMG so rebuilding it from scratch is not really an option.
Any idea how this could be done?
    Thanks,
    Martin

    Thanks Srikanth,
As far as I know it is not possible to change the font size or color of the overview page using IMG.
But I found a way of applying a theme to a single Web Dynpro application running inside the portal, like the Overview page. You need to specify the theme in the iView property editor using the Application parameter sap-cssurl. The feature is there and more or less documented, the only problem I am still not able to make it work, the portal theme is always used. It is also possible to change the theme of <i>all</i> the Web Dynpro applications running on the server (by changing WD a property in the J2EE Visual Admin, see this <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=367022">post</a> for example) but this is not what I want to do.

    Hi All,
We've recently upgraded to ECC6.  We've tackled the ESS side of things but no the business want MSS to look and feel the same.  My problem is that there is no overview page in MSS like there is in ESS.
I have tried copying the ESS overview page to MSS and pointing the menu area to my newly created MSS menu but it still displays the ESS menu.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.  Where is the MSS overview page or how can I create one?
    Regards,
    Liz.
    DISREGARD QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had forgotten to change the ID of the newly copied overview page so it still pointed to the ESS one..

    Hi Liz.
Like ESS Overpage , in MSS we have Service map page which list all services in MSS , only we need to do is to customize the Service map page and make it as Overpage in ESS which we can see t first when we navigate to MSS.
    hope it helps.

hi, hav u created webdynpro iView..
Suppose you want a new area which has two servicex.. create WD iView which would point to your application.
Define  Applicationparameter  in iView defining menuarea, menugroup, menuheader, which you will be defining in SPRO.
Now create weddynpro proxy page and the add above iView to your page.
Now create iView for service i.e your webdynpro appliaction.
Now add above iView to new proxy page. Thus now we have to proxy page.
Create workset and add this two page to workset.
Add this workset to ESS role.
note down PCD location of above two pages. Now all necessary configuation from portal side is completed
Now u would need to do your SPRO setting.. Go to resource node and create resouce. and give  PCD location in URL of PCD Page. Similarly you would need to do this for other page also ...in resouce node.
Now we have defined resouce...now we would define the area...give your area name..and give resouce name.
Now define subarea.. and add subarea to areas..from assing sub-area to area node.
Now create a service..from define service node..give resouce name in link resouce text box..
    Now assign service to subarea..
Now to make it available on overview page....you need to add Group page to Group Area page, to make it visible on ESS Overview Page.
IMG-> Cross Application Components -> Homepage Framework->Areas -> Assign Areas to Area Group
Pages -> Assign Areas to Area Group Pages (Add and change Entries).
    Click on u2018New Entriesu2019.
    Now you can save..it..

    1. first of all, create the iviews and the pages of your webdynpro applications.
    2. create resource in the transaction spro. (spro->img->personal management->employee self service->general settings->homepage framework->resource)
    3. add the pcd location of ur page in this resource.
    4. create a service  and then add this resource in this service. select the appropriate type of service.

  • Customising the icons on overview page of ESS

    Hi ,
I have a requirement for ESS in portal that i have to change the icons available in Overview page of ESS.
Say for example for near Wrking time we have a icon clock icon where i found this under the path spro->personal management->Define Resource->  and for the resource EMPLOYEE_WORKTIME_PIC  i found the value for Object name:  calendar_clock.gif.
Now i would like to know where this gif file is stored in portal so that i will replace my custom icon into that place.
Please let me know the path where this file is stored in the portal.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Krishna,
The icons are not stored in portal content. Its stored in the J2EE server path of the software components like:-..pcui_gp~xssutils/Components/com.sap.xss.ser.xssmenu.vc.areagroup.VcXssMenuAreaGroup/
You need to copy and past your icon there.
    Hope this helps,

  • Hide/disable certain areas from the Overview page of ESS in portal

    HI All,
We have a requirement where we need to hide/disable certain areas from the "Overview" page of ESS in portal.
In Overview page, we have certain links like Employee search,Life and work events,
    Purchasing and travel and expenses.
I m not able to find these pages under overview workset also.
We have to hide 'Purchasing' and 'life and work events' areas from the overview page as the customer dosent want to use this sap standard impl.
Is the customiztion to be done from portal side or do we need to do it from the IMG??
Can someone pls tell us in detail how to do it?
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,
Inorder to hide/diable certain areas from the Overview page of ESS you need to do it from the IMG.
The detail steps are as follows:
    1) After logging in to your backend, run Transaction code SPRO.
    2) Select the SAP Reference IMG button.
    3) Follow the path: Cross-Application Components >> Homepage Framework >>
    Areas/Sub Areas.
    4) In the Assign SubAreas to Areas OR Assign Areas to Area Group Pages (depending on your requirement), to hide the particular area , set the Position value to 0 for the Area / SubArea that you wish to hide.
    5) After making the changes, Refresh the Portal browser page to reflect the new changes.
    Hope this helps.

It sounds like first you need to understand the Overview page and how it gets built. This all comes from the Homepage Framework configuration in the BACKEND (ECC box). Look in the IMG under "Cross Application Components" (or in the ESS section as will which actually has the same section) to find the configuration area. The Homepage Framework configuration however is also tightly coupled to the portal content (ie. objects in a portal role PCD path are tied to configuration "resources" in the Homepage Framework configuration). I won't get into all that, as there is plenty of material in these forums and documentation (help.sap.com) that describes the details of how all of this works. However, to answer your immediate question....
Ok....so the "lazy man's approach" is fairly simple....in the IMG where you assign the Areas to the Area Group, you can simply change the display order number of the ones you want hidden to 0 (zero)....this will at least keep your standard entries in place....or you can just delete them from the assignment to the Area Group in the "change" step.
Sooooo....that gets them off the Overview (Area Group) page. However, they will still be in the standard delivered portal role (for example, the worksets will still show up in the second line of the top level navigation). So you need to remove the worksets from there.
Now, I call the above the "lazy man's approach" because in actuality, you should build your own custom Homepage Framework to your needs. This way it is safer, customized and you are not touching the standard, delivered entries so you can use them as reference later. Also, you should be doing the same on the portal side....ie. build you own custom role based on delta-linked copies of the standard objects (worksets, pages, and iViews). This might seem like a lot of work, but it is way more flexible....for example, if you need several different ESS "versions" to accomodate different types of users.
