ESS SP14 upgrade

Hi Experts,
Recently we upgraded our EP from SP09 to SP17 and in a sequence we also upgraded ESS package from patch9 to 14. In the earlier ESS track we did some custom changes to the DC's and now our concern is to get those changes into new track which we created for new patch. Can any one of you suggest/guide me to get the custom changes from old ESS track to new ESS track without doing any manual coding again. Your answer can really makes our work easier.

Hi Sandeep,
We put every effort to simplfy the process but still we felt the best option was doing the changes manually. We tried merging the code and it doesn't work. But while doing the code changes manualy you can make use of the Web Dynpro meta data comparision tool to identify the changes between old DC and new DC. So that you can easily copy the modified code on to new track with this tool.

Problem in Predefined Properties after SP14 upgrade

Hi,
we are facing one Problem after the SP14 upgrade in the Development environment.The Problem is as follows:
Actually we have defined some Predefined metadata Properties which give us option of country and Locality while uploading any Document.The Property of Country and Locality are Interlinked and whenever user check the country checkbox (Like China) the interdependent Locality List appears (like Shanghai).But after SP14 upgrade whenever we are clicking the country checkbox the Loclity checkboxes are not appearing.(Even though some processing happens).I have checked all the configuration under System admin >Global services> Property Metada -->Group and Properties.Property Structures -->Property Groups etc and match them with all the properties of that in the Production environment.But we don't find any property missing like Dependencies etc.
Is there anything else we need to check?Anybody of you have faced the same Problem earlier?

Dear Imran,
we dint migrate the properties to the new server.
we have created those properties again in our new server.
I am using those properties for two purposes
1.to refine the search ,adding them in the search option set.
here i am able to see the all properties and there dependedncy .
its working fine.
2. while uploading the documnets.
I created a metadata group mapped those properties to all groups.
all process as we have done in our old server.
here i am able to view all the properties except 1.
for ex country and city
I am able to see the property country ,
but the property city is not visible only .
where as i can see both the properties in search and working as desired .
If the problem is with patch,then it should either not work in the search also.
can u please suggest me on this .

Deployed ESS in upgraded EP7.0, but content not found

Hi,
We upgraded our EP6 SP14 system to EP7 SP12. Then, deployed ESS Business Package through JSPM. It deployed with success. However, I am unable to locate the content.
I know from another system that the content should be located in Content Administration -> Portal Content -> Content Provided by SAP -> End User Content -> Employee Self-Service. However, the Employee Self-Service area is not there. Also, none of the ESS roles can be found.
Any ideas? Thanks!

SR1 to SP14 Upgrade - Portal Platform Warning

Hello all,
I am upgrading the recently installed SR1 to SP12. I successfully applied the Patch for WEBAS J2EE server. Now I'm trying to apply Portal Platform patches. During the "Deploy EAR Files" phase (6 of 12), it gave a warning Message box saying "The deloplyment may require manual postprocessing. See output of logfile C:\ProgramFiles\sapinst_instdir\callSdmViaSapinst.log' and in the status Bar it said 'Finished but with Warning'.
When I checked the log file i didnt fine any error or warning. It seems to me fine. Wonder what this message means.
(During the WAS Upgrade i upgraded the Central Instance and I dont have any other dialog instances).
But After I clicked Ok on the message box, the installation continued Normally and it seems to be going fine.
Can anyone help me out in this ?

One more question before i end this thread. I am new to portals and we are installing Portal on the Test box. To demonstrate the upper authorities how it might help for the company. I have so far installed SR1 and now upgrading to SP14. I have not installed TREX so far but will be installing in future. We are installing everything onto one box. I have installed Oracle database, WEBAS, Portal and KMC on the same drive(D:). The drive capacity is 34GB and i have so far used 11.5 GB and left with like 22.5GB. So my question is if I install TREX on another Drive (E:), will 22.5GB space on D: sufficient for doing the development which includes ESS, MSS import and bit of development?

ESS SP11 upgrade error in travel request

We have recenlty up graded to ESS-SP11 package, The intial travel request is coming. But When I click on "dditional destination" or "Review" button , The following dump is coming.
The same is happening in travel expense as well.

Probably, your backend is not compatible anymore with your Portal.
You may need to upgrade your SAP_HR and EA_HR support packages.

ESS/MSS Upgrade from 4.6 to ECC 6.0 Question..

Hi Gurus,
During the upgrade SAP R/3 would be upgraded from 4.6C to ECC 6.0. The HR module on this R/3 has - Org Management, Benefits, Time Administration and Payroll. They use ESS based on ITS. My question is when they go from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 - would they have to let go the ITS based ESS transactions and go with Web Dynpro based ESS? If yes then what happens to all the customizations they have done to ITS based ESS transactions. Would they have to be redone on the Web Dynpro based ESS?

yes You need to do different customisations for the Web dynpro since ECC 6 is better with WD, ITS functionality wont work here. Please check the training material for the MSS which is very exhaustive.
But if you continue to use ITS then your old customisation should work but then again there will be changes..better to move wholly to WD

SP14 Upgrade Error

Hi all,
We have a small web application that we recently moved from 6.20 onto 6.40. After a bit of work it was up and running fine. Over night we applied SP14 and now have a problem. From our HTML form page the code is
<FORM name="xxx" ACTION="/changePassword/servlet/ChangePassword" METHOD="POST">.
After the upgrade this no longer seems to work. When you click submit form on the html page nothing happens. The browser goes blank and URL changes to http://<ourserver>/changePassword/servlet/ChangePassword and thats it. We would ecpect an error message or something if the java classes were being reached so I think for some reason the HTML is no longer starting the Application. Any thoughts?

not sure what happened after the upgrade. However, you can check <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/5a/4bfe970a2a8b49bd6d8350ce5668e8/frameset.htm">this</a> page in the docs to see if your form uses the right input parameters, whether it's configured in the xmls, etc.

ESS MSS Upgrade to 2004s SP 11

Currently we are on 2004s SP9 and intend to move to SP11.
I have a couple of questions here. WE are using mySAP ERP BP for ESS and MSS with SP 6 ( i.e compatible with 2004s SP9). We made lot of changes to some web dynpro code and went live 2 months back. Now as part of the upgrade if the basis team installs SP8 for BP's ESS and MSS(2004s SP11) through JSPM/SDM on the EP J2EE engine, will it override all the custom code that we have done? I surely guess so. In that case do we not install SP8 for BP's ESS and MSS through JSPM but rather follow the 4 track methodology for upgrades and upgrade ESS MSS through NWDI rather than JSPM?
I am sorry if i had confused you guys, this is the first time we doing the upgrade after go-live .. hence the basic doubts.
Any note or reference for upgrade startegy will be pretty useful

Hi Raj,
You will deploy the latest component of the ESS/MSS through the JSPM. So while deploying the component in JSPM you also have to select the NWDI control according the runtime system. JSPM will then recognize which component is managed by the NWDI. ESS/MSS modified component and will only be transported to the EPS transport directory without deployment, where as the unmodified component (like PUCI_GP) is deployed.
The other way of updating is also through the NWDI where you even do not use the JSPM. So if you do not want your custom code to override by the new SP level, then you need to go through NWDI.

We are on EP7.0 ECC6.0 and about to upgrade to stack 11 which has ESS/MSS SP11 .....what is the procedure now to upgrade to SP11 for ESS/MSS using JSPM so that it does not overwrite our custom changes done in the old track.....

I have followed this note and also the Cookbook attached to it ....after doing all this and redoing the custom changes in the new track and moving it to the DEV system ....when I goto the System Components and check for the SP of the SAP_ESS component ...it says SP0 instead of SP11...

Upgrade path for ESS/MSS business package while upgrading to ECC 6.0

We have a scenario where SAP Enterprise Portal 7.0 SP 18 is currently running with SAP ECC 4.6C. SAP ECC is being upgraded to SAP ECC 6.0 and consequently we have a requirement to upgrade to the latest ESS/MSS business package. In a scenario like this what is SAP recommended approach for ESS/MSS upgrade? My questions are
1) Is a direct upgrade of ESS/MSS possible? If this is possible, then how will it be done on a production system with reduced or no downtime?
2) Should ESS/MSS business package be deployed and configured afresh after removing/undeploying the existing version of ESS/MSS business package? If this is the case how would the earlier customizations be restored?
3) Is there any other approach?

In my openion, it will be good if you go for new implementation, reason being as you mentiond ECC versionyou are on is 4.6c all the ESS applications are ITS based now a days all the application/iView for ESS are Webdynpro for Java or WD for ABAP based.
Till the time the new portal ready you can continue with your currect one (No down time require).
Most of the people are using this way. (Check the SDN for more details).
Also chcek this migration guide, which will give you the basic steps required.

MI Client Upgrade Problem (PPC)

Hi all
I have installed MI 2.5 sp13 in my Pocket PC.
I am currently trying to upgrade it to sp 16, till sp14 upgrade MI client was installing the Addon but when i downloaded the sp 15 it got downloaded but was not installed.What could be the problem?
I tried soft reset on the PPC but still no use.
Does SAP provide a full version for MI SP16 i could find only MI SP13 as full version.If SP16 is available does it need extra authorization for downloading it.

Can you give some more details regarding the problem? Are there any errors in the trace file?
Yes SAP does ship the entire SP16. It can be found in the Service Market Place. For SP16 the file name is NWMCLIENT16_0-10002889.sca. When you extract this using an unarchiving tool you will find setup.exe and the MI install cab file.
It requires the same authorization as downloading the patches nothing extra.

Issue with Value Help not showing in Portal screen Please Help

What is the best practice for doing ESS/MSS upgrade.
Since everytime we upgrade the BP we need to redo all the customizations again in the new track and deploy.
I have gone through Note 872892 and read the NWDI cookbook.
I feel there should be some tool (which will tell the differences in Code from one track to other if so how to install and where to install?) or a better way to apply the customizations to the new track when we upgrade the ESS/MSS components.

Hi Martin, we installing ESS and upgrading the system to SP stack 7, and after a deploy this error occurs, the problem is that we can´t know after which deploy it happens.
We have looked over the log files and we haven`t enough information, the error message there is:
Processing HTTP request to servlet finished with error.
with the location: com.sap.engine.services.servlets_jsp.server.HttpHandlerlmpl
I don´t know if this information can help something.
