ESS WDA Personal Profile - with approval / workflow

Dear Expert,
I wanted to use the Std. Personal profile WDA application in ESS and the client here want to Introduce a approval process in Edit mode of the application.
Ex.  If an employee want's change his/her address or add a family member we need to get approval from the line manager / HR before it get's updated in the info type.
Kindly Suggest a solution for this.
As per my understanding it can be done by developing a custom application.
But I don't want to spend time in developing the UI again, as its already available. is the any way that i can do some config or some small enhancement to std. application and achieve my requirement.
Thanks & Regards,
Vijay M

Hi Vijay,
This seems possible.
Please read through section "UI Integration with HCM Processes and Forms" @
http://scn.sap.com/community/erp/hcm/employee-self-service/blog/2012/05/29/exciting-enhacements-to-ess-personal-information-scenario-in-enhancement-pack-6
Hope this helps.
With regards,
Sahir.

    Hi,
Our requirement is to add explanation text to the detailed screens of personal profile wda app. I tried this with personalization and WDA OVP configuration options, but with no success. Is there any way we can do this?
    Thanks

There are many ways to do this..

is there a standard SAP possibility to update Skill profile via ESS with an approval workflow to the direct manager? I saw that an employee can update his own Skills but it is not sent to the direct manager for approval. The direct manager is not even notified.

I'm getting the following error when trying to approve or preview and save a requisition with approval workflow (awe) enabled in our stage environment. It works correctly in our development environment, and I've tried comparing all of the configurations, roles, permission lists, templates, etc., to assure that they match, but something is still awry. I've compared a lot of table contents between both environments; although I may be missing some. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what to look for to see what might be missing from our stage environment that might have been overlooked? When workflow for requisitions is disabled; the requisition saves correctly.

  • OIM Approval Workflow starting Exception

Hi to all. I'm working with approval workflow in OIM11g and I've followed the OBE for the design of a ResourceSerialApproval Workflow. When submitting a request which is to be approved by this workflow at request level, the request creation fails with this exception:
IAM-2050014:An error occurred while initiating approvals for request oracle.iam.platform.workflowservice.exception.IAMWorkflowException: Unable to instantiate the workflow process due to null. The corresponding error message is {1}.
I've searched this forum for the error and seen that maybe it could be caused by a bad props file when registering the workflow: this is NOT my case. The workflow gets correctly deployed.
    Could anyone help me?
Please I have no idea on how to solve this problem.

    Hi,
Open your approval workflow in Jdev, open "ApprovalProcess.bpel" file in source mode,
Check if custom attribute is getting assigned before the payload is loaded:
    something like
    <copy>
    <from variable="resourceAdmins"/>
    <to variable="initiateTaskInput" part="payload"
    query="/ns2:initiateTask/task:task/task:payload/task:ResourceAdministrators"/>

I'm looking to gauge Java's GUI capabilities for high
end PDA devices. Some things that I'm looking at
are:Personal Profile only supports AWT (not SWING)!
    -MenusAWT Menus.
    -Tree structuresNo SWING JTree!
-Context menus (can you detect the difference between
a single click and a click and hold as you can using
VS.net?)All that you can do using AWT.
-Screen/Form controls (i.e. close, minimise/hide)Belongs to the Frame and is handled by the Virtual Machine.
With the menus can you have them at the bottom of the
screen rather than the top (as with VS.net).Handled by the Virtual Machine. If you use e.g. J9 this is done automatically.
    >
I'd guess that java is capable of all of these, but
it'd be nice if someone could confirm it. Also a
point in the direction of some examples or tutes
would be great.Just look into an AWT tutorial.

  • Problem with approving standard workflows.

We are testing workflows in Content DB prior to initiating a larger project. We have defined a serial approval workflow for uploading a file to a folder. When a file is uploaded, the approver can see the request but is not given the possibility to approve or reject the request.
The approver has been granted "approval" role with standard permissions "Set Attributes, Set Metadata, Discover, Lock, Get Metadata, Get Content, Set Content, Copy".
What can be missing in our setup that blocks for approving in workflows?

    A few things to check:
    1) That a message appears (briefly) on the outbound advanced queue (IFS_OUT) when the workflow is triggered. You can perform a "select * from ifs_out_table;" You need to be quick though.
However, if there is a build up of messages on the queue, but none are being removed, it would appear the Oracle Workflow process is not running.
    2) If the message appears on the queue (briefly), then disappears, workflow is correctly dequeing the message.
In order for the approve/reject buttons to become visible in the Content DB Web UI, Oracle Workflow must repond on the inbound queue (IFS_IN) with seperate "notification" messages for each of the applicable responders.
If "orcladmin" was a responder for the worflow, a queue message may look like :-
    IFS Queue Message Details:
    Message Type: IFS_ECM_WORKFLOW_NID
    IFS Queue Message Parameters:
    IFS_ECM_WORKFLOW_PROCESSID=48799 (STRING)
    IFS_ECM_WORKFLOW_RESPONDER=ORCLADMIN (STRING)
    IFS_ECM_WORKFLOW_NID=3 (STRING)
You will thus need to monitor the inbound queue table (IFS_IN_TABLE) - and see if Worflow is responding to the request with these responder notifications.
If workflow is not returning notifications for each responder of the original request, then the Workflow process has failed / or is not running. You will need to check with the Oracle Workflow guys on how to debug workflow further.
If however, the notification messages are on the IFS_IN queue, but are not being removed, it means the Content DB agent responsible for processing inbound queue messages is not running.
The agent responsible for this is the InboundQueueListenerAgent. Check the Content DB node log file and search for entries relating to oracle.ifs.management.servers.InboundQueueListenerAgent
You will notice a table in the Content DB schema named odm_responder
    SQL> desc odm_responder;
    Name Null? Type
    ID NOT NULL NUMBER(20)
    REQUEST NUMBER(20)
    RESPONDERUSER NUMBER(20)
    RESPONSE NUMBER(1)
    RESPONSEDATE NUMBER(20)
    NOTIFICATIONID NUMBER(20)
For a particular responder to see approve/reject buttons for a particular request, I believe the notificationid value has to be non-null.
BTW - the message on the IFS_OUT queue will look something like :-
    Q_NAME MSGID
    CORRID
    PRIORITY STATE
    DELAY

  • User change attribute workflow with approval  problem

    Hello,
I have a requirement to add account numbers to user entry through workflow with approval process. and also same user can have multiple account numbers. when approver approves the User request then it's account number will be added into the user entity in ldap.
So, i have created a Change Attribute workflow for that account number with these steps as : initiate, Approval, Commit, Error_report
this workflow i am able to invoke through IdentityXML call and from OIM interfaces approvers able to approve and that account number is persisting under the User entity.
Problem is: Actually above request is staging system. when user requests, it is in initiate step, when approver approves the request then only commits the info. so, there are 2 stages here.
When i am requesting two consecutive account number requests then both requests are in initial stage. Then approver approves the 1st request then it is persisting into User entity. after that approver approves the 2nd request then this account number is overwriting the previous one. so, here is the problem i am finding. worflow is not adding the new account number.. instead its replacing the last value in the list of account numbers for an User entity.
I hope the above problem make understandable..
Really its a very much helpful to find the solution on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Srini.

Thanks for the help. Having reinstalled OID/OAM a bunch of times to properly add our custom user object, nothing seems absurd. I tried running through your steps, but I'm still not getting the workflow button. I've customized create and delete workflows properly, but the change attribute is a mystery.
    I did the following:
    1) Selected a custom attribute in Attribute Access Control
    2) Changed its read access to Anyone
    3) Saved
    4) Changed its modify access to Anyone
    5) Saved
    6) Added a new Change Attribute workflow for the custom attribute
    7) Action #1: Request, added Anyone as participant and saved
    8) Action #2: External Action, selected attribute is the custom one
    9) Action #3: Commit
    10) Saved and enabled the workflow
    11) Restarted the Identity server
    12) Picked a user
    13) Opened his user profile
    14) Clicked Modify
The custom attribute is still editable and has no Request a Change button.

  • "Edit Personal Profile" - ESS Benefits

    Hi
We have a requirement to open the "Edit Personal Profile" in ESS Benefits "New Hire Enrollment" (GAF) in place rather opening in external window. I changed the property in the launchpad ESS/MENU for the "Personal Profile" under Benefits Enrollment to Force Inplace or Inplace but it is not taking effect in portal. Still opens in the external window. Am I missing something or it is handled by the code? Any suggestions would help.
    Thanks, Raj

typically its meant to launch a new window 1926925 - READ_ONLY_PERSONAL_PROFILE in ESS Benefit Enrollment WDA its coded in the code, so above changes wont take effect in ESS/MENU Webdynpro component:HRESS_C_BEN_ENRL_CONFIG met:ON_EDITCLICK ls_parameter-value = 'EXTERNAL'. change it to ls_parameter-value = 'EXT_HEAD' in both the places. check here if you can get more information on this http://scn.sap.com/thread/3508230

  • Issue in a custom workflow with Approval Type Notification. Urgent

    Hi
I have created a custom workflow which contains an approval notification.
If the user approves/rejects the notification I need to update a table column as Approved or Rejected.
    I have created a function activity,say X, which calls a PL/SQL procedure.
    The issue is,
when the user approves or rejects the notification, the function X errors out even without entering the PL/SQL procedure.
    Following is the error message
An Error occurred in the following Workflow.
    Item Type = XXYH_UMX
    Item Key = 55
    User Key =USERKEY:55
    Error Name = -6502
Error Message = ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    Error Stack =
    Wf_Engine_Util.Function_Call(XXYH_UMX_WF_PKG.is_resp_assigned, XXYH_UMX, 55, 242407, RUN)
    Activity ID = 242407
    Activity Label = XXYH_UMX_ASSIGN_RESPONSIBILITY:XXYH_UMX_RESP_ASSIGNED
    Result Code = #EXCEPTION
    Notification ID =
    Assigned User =
If I go the function from any other function, say Y, (bypassing approval notification) it works fine.
Can you please help me what could be the issue?
    Thanks,
    Kamath.

The danger in putting in one activity is that if there is any scope longer-term to expand the process to multiple activities, then it may be better to break it out into a sub-process early in the design phase.
Generally, you get the feeling from the client fairly early on about whether they have a final design and how likely they are to complicate the process later on :)
I wouldn't include it as a post notification function myself - it saves a tiny amount of processing time and database space, but at the cost of making it less clear what is happening. Plus you'd need to check the result in the PNF manually - putting it on a conditional branch ensures that you always know what the value is. If the lookup type changes at any stage, you would need to check a PNF to ensure that the code still remains valid; if it's on a branch then the only thing to change would be to change the label on the branch.

  • Problem with custom sharepoint designer approval workflow - check box: 'Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item' is greyed out

I wanted to create a simple approval workflow. Hence I opted to start from scratch rather than copy the OOTB approval WF. Using SharePoint Designer (not Visual studio) I created a reusable workflow and have added the built in 'Start approval process' action.
    It's saved and published globally.
Everything works fine except that when associating the WF with a list the 'Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item' check box is disabled.
Major and minor versioning is enabled for the library.
What am I missing here? Or do I have to start from the OOTB approval WF to get this to work?
    Regards
    Henning

Again - new ideas pop up right after defining the issue as a problem. :-) Problem solved!
I solved this by creating a new workflow from the original publishing approval workflow (copy and replace), but instead of tweaking the already defined approval process (WF action) I deleted it, then deleted all initiation form and local variables,
and then added the 'Start approval process' action again. This re-installs all the necessary local variables without any initiation form involvement, which is just what I want.
From here I can tweak the workflow to make it more user friendly, much like
described by Bobby Chiang in his great blog.
Remember to add action Set Workflow Variable 'EnableContentApproval' to Yes right before the Start Approval Process action, else the document's status won't be set to 'Approved' or 'Rejected' as an output of the workflow.
    Learning every day!

  • OIM 11g R1. Issue with parallel participant type approval workflow.

    Hi All,
I have a request level approval with the human task assignment participant type set to parallel. There will be two participants in the workflow with approve and reject having outcome value as 50 each. When i submit a request, i can see the both the request is properly allocated to both the users. But when i log in with the individual users and search the approval tasks in the self service page, i cant see it properly assigned.
In the approval tasks table, i cant see the values for the following columns request ID, request type, beneficiary, request target. Whereas i can see the value for the requester as "Anonymour user" and it is assigned to a proper user. When i try to approve, i get the following error in the console.

    Thanks,

    Hi Kevin,
Thanks a lot for the response. But, when i deployed the composite SAR in to the server from Jdeveloper, i checked the option to "Overwrite any existing composite with same revision ID". SO, i used the same revision ID (Say 1.0), will this also need to be disabled?
    Thanks,
    Srini

  • Workflow user-decision mail with Approve & Reject button to Outlook.

    Hi All,
Requirement: To send a mail with Approve & Reject buttons to outlook inbox.
Approach: I have used the user-decision step in the workflow and the approve, reject buttons are displayed . As far as solution in SAP inbox is concerned, it is solved.
However the requirement is to show the mail with the buttons in the outlook mail.
Resolution Required For: to show the mail with the buttons in the outlook mail. I am new to workflows sending mail to outlook inbox. Is there any way to do this using ABAP developments.
    Thanks for your time.
    Best Regards,
    Goutham.

    Hi,
If you are on ECC 5.0 or above, you can use the Extended Notif. for achieving this.
How are you getting the Outlook mail ?. If you already have Extn.Notif, then do the following :
    1. In Transaction SWNCONFIG,for your Scenario and Category,
in the Subscription Basis Data -->Subscription Settings,
Set the parameter SHOW_ACTION_DECISION_AS as "LINK"
This will give you the options of your user decision as LInks in Outlook mail.
There is lot of material in this forum for Extended Notif. if you search.
    Hope this helps.
