Essbase 11.1.2.2 setup

Hi Team,
For an essbase setup ( EPM 11.1.2.2) can you let me know if this architecture will work. I have not include RDBMS here. I have not seen a setup where http server and app server(websphere) on different box. Will it be a problem during EPM configuration since webserver and app server are residing in different machines.
client --> http server ( server 1) --> App server -websphere ( server 2 ) --> essbase ( server 3).

It should be possible to run IBM http server on a separate machine than the websphere app server, though I can't confirm how well it works with EPM 11.1.2.2 as I am yet to see a websphere deployment, I can't imagine there have been that many yet.

6) Any known issues using VM for both webserver and Essbase server. I have not see issues with webserver in VM, but I havent done essbase on VM.

This becomes a non-trival exercise and depends on answers to the following questions:
How many users use these cubes?
Do the users have ability to launch rules and/or calculations against the cubes?
What are your batch runtimes like?
How many processors on current server and what is the hardware/operating system?
Now on your virtual hardware:
What hypervisor is this? (Oracle VM, Hyper-V, ESXi, ...)
What is the to be virtual server hardware?
Do you have other analytical applications and/or databases running succesfully in this environment?
Oracle recommends Hyperthreading be turned off (it is at least a 20% hit to performance -- usually on VM this means turning it of a physical level)

Hi All For a same Essbase configuration and server/job setup, is their anybench mark that one could provide for 32bit Vs 64bit? We areplanning to upgrade to System 9.3 starting next month and wouldappreciate if somebody could help us in recommend whether 62bitSolaris10 is better than 32bit Solaris10. Thanks

That's a good question. I'm not an Oracle representative, but I think in general detailed informations given to the customer through metalink have to be kept 'confidential'. Oracle won't like it, one customer pays for his support contract and happy others (not paying) read the informations on OTN. It's not a problem to say 'You find more informations in metalink note xxx', because in this case the reader still needs a valid access to metalink.

Planning webservice terminating while refresh database

Planning websevice terminating while refresh database from planning to essbase.
It's new setup.Planning version 11.1.1.3.
We have loaded metadata into our planning application.
One of our product dimention have 2,75,000 records.
While refreshing database,Planning server utilization going 100% and services are terminating.
We have 8 GB RAm on planning server.
Our Essbase is on Solaris box.

MaxL and Bat

Hi All,
I am new to essbase, I am trying to setup schedule default calculation, but I am a little confusssed about the process, here is what did for testing:
1. Create simple Calc Script under Test.test in EAS: CalAll.csc like this:
//ESS_LOCALE English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary
SET UPDATECALC OFF;
Calc All;
2. Create MaxL script as MaxLTest.mxl:
Spool on to 'D:\log\Test.log';
Login admin password;
execute calculation CalAll on Test.test;
spool off;
exit;
3. Create MaxL.bat file like this:
/*log in user */
login admin password;
ESSMSH MaxLTest.mxl
EXIT
Does this sounds right? I double click on MaxL.bat and windows going out quickly, also I don't see any Test.log generated.

Thanks. Here is the changes I make based on your advice, yes, we are on 11.1.1.3:
1. MaxL script:
Spool on to 'D:\log\FinGL.log';
Login $1 $2 on localhost;
execute calculation CalAll on Test.test;
spool off;
exit;
2. My .bat file:
/*log in user */
login admin password;
ESSMSH CalcFinGL.mxl admin password
3. you mention that I also need to specify the path of my maxl script, so I put my maxl script at D:\Script, then MaxLScript should change to this?
ESSMSH D:\Script\CalcFinGL.mxl admin password
4. I search on essmsh, it return couple of path under my Hyperion folder, which one I should use, for example:
D:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin
D:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin
D:\Hyperion\common\EssbaseRTC\11.1.1.2\bin, etc.
5. My complete .bat should be like this?
D:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer\bin\ESSMSH D:\Script\CalcFinGL.mxl admin password

Essbase/ Analyzer 5.0.x server setup/ thin client access

Hi all,We are in the process of implementing Analyzer/ Essbase in our company, and would like to have it spread throughout the enterprise. We are very new to this and somewhat inexperienced. We would definitely like to use thin client for Analyzeer, b/c of the many different departments/ # of users, and to plan for future growth. We are currently using Essbase v. 6.1.4 and would like to use Analyzer to view the data, along with reports creation. The server is configured as follows:c: (OS,Hyperion software)-4GB NT4 sp6a128 d: (index) 10 GB e: (data) 80-100 Gb We have plenty of disk space and memory.Can anyone, from experience, please assist me wih config. recommendations- hardware, and software, along with virtual memory, IIS config? If you are going to use the web based Analyzer, you may want to consider 6.0. I do not believe Analyzer 5.0 web client has all the functionality of 5.0 windows client. Analyzer 6.0 web addresses this issue.As for installation, because of some of the web application setup complexities, we had a Hyperion consultant install it for us. Setup event table cache clear for - Essbase cube table

we have event polling table for clearing the cache now having issues in setting up for essbase physical cube tables.
1. we have structure of hyperion like this for physical cube table "CONSOL"- where schema is empty.
"Hyperion"."CONSOLX".."CONSOL"
2. Event polling table is in different database/connection
When the event table is populated without schema, polling actually looking for the table in the database configured for the event pool connection pool and not "hyperion".
*[55001] The physical table Hyperion:CONSOLX:Event Polling:CONSOL in a cache polled row does not exist.*
When i read in some blogs...I understood its working as expected(when something is null it looks in event polling database)
Has anybody configured event polling for hyperion cubes table cache clear ?

what is your insert statement in UET table?
Looks like you are missing one value out of 4 required. Thats why it is considering Event Pooling in between. As you have event pooling table in different physical database, you have to fill DbName,CatalogName,SchemaName and TableName in the UET tables.

Hi,Install Shield has a silent option that allows to record the options that have to be selected by the user.You first have to launch the install with a record a setup.iss file by launcinh setup.exe /r (or -r)Then setup.exe /f1 with the location and name of the iss file will do the trick.Consult installshield.com knowldege base for more information (perform a search on setup.iss).Please be aware that depending on the OS the iss file may need to be different.EricPartake Consulting

Problem with the SQL Data Source (Essbase server in Unix Env)

I too have the same problem.
I have setup the Datasource for an Oracle db in the Essbase Server (which is on a Unix Box) using the Oracle Wire Protocol.I tested the ODBC connection in the Server and it connect with the credentials.
But if i choose the same DSN in the EAS and try to connect i get the below error
Error: 1021001 Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server.
I even downloaded a document from the Oracle site.. on the SQL interface in Essbase but i could not find the inst-sql.sh file to enable Essbase SQL Interface on the server. Is this required??
I tried with both the User & System DSN on the server but no luck.
Any help on this will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can't access Solaris 10 after install Essbase 11.1.1.3 32/64-bit clients

We try to install Oracle Essbase 11.1.1.3 Client 11.1.1.3 32 and 64 bit in separated folders on Sun Solaris 10.
Installation performed by root.
1.
32-bit Essbase 11.1.1.3 Client was installed and cofigured in ../ESS11113_32 folder with Oracle installer without
problem.
2.
We tried to install the 64-bit Essbase 11.1.1.3 Client in separate ../ESS11113_64 folder by running command
# installTool.sh -console

After that, we got the problem on Solaris 10 system after 64-bit Essbase 11.1.1.3 Client installation which didn't succeed.
We can't access the server with any user id (except root).
The following is from /var/adm/messages,

Below are my questions which are still not clear to me. We are using only SAN Pillar Storage for DB servers and Local Hard disks for all Application servers. So said this App Servers cant access SAN storage all they have is local hard disk for each app server.
1. For Essbase Server can i use SAN shared file system from pillar storage for ARBORPATH only for Active-Passive setup.
2. For Applications can i use the local hard disk space as shared between two systems for HA (Active-Active).

Essbase studio 11.1.2.1 problem

First of all hello to all and please please help. I'm in the on-site poc engagement where we successfully loaded customer's hierarchies using essbase studio but we cannot somehow make it working with loading data.
Few details:
fact table is very large, around 16 M records and is based on Oracle DB.
The message I'm getting after launching only load task says:

If I understand it correctly essbase studio doesn't allow to deploy app that is already there but the question is why it want to deploy when I select only load data task ?
Also, can somebody tell me why I cannot setup custom sql ?

Hopefully the very reasonable cost can be viewed as a good investment for that million + deal.

Filter and general access issues from planning to essbase

Hi all,
V 9.3.1 Planning
I am working on a planning system where the business owners would like to restrict the lock and sending of data via smartview. Basically, users are bypassing parts of planning and going directly to essbase rather than forms. They had individual user filters setup but they would like to move to groups. I am using the importsecurity utility to try and achieve this. However, the access granted and filters are producing the following behaviour
1)Group has essbase write access - if this is enabled there appears to be unrestricted access via smartview. Take it away and #NoAccess appears despite security being applied to certain members using the importsecurity utility. I have read that this can be a bit of a loose canon when granted and conflicts with filters.
2) Cannot create filters - I wish to remove all user filters from within planning. However, the importsecurity sl_clearall command doesn't clear them (as I thought it would but appear to be wrong). I cannot create any filters. An error appear saying 'Failed to create Security Filters for the following users: xxxx' Is it possible to delete the filters?
3) If I refresh the security filters I get errors saying 'the following filters could not be created' but they are in EAS (I deleted all filters before hand). I have run the updateusers utility which tidied up msad users but still errors are reported.
The objective is to restrict each group to be able to write to the permitted part of the application and read where necessary. The permissions in planning need to match essbase.
I would appreciate any help.

MDX and substitution Variable usage in Essbase 7.1.5 -- Problem

Each essbase application can go up to 2GB only. If you have one application which use more than 2GB of ram, it will probably crash.
If you use direct I/O, you can use more than 2GB of ram, however it is limited by the operating systems.
For Windows, it is recommended to turn on the /PAE setting in boot.ini. This will allow the windows to use more than 4GB of RAM. According to Essbase DBA guide, Turning 4GT will allow Essbase to use up to 3GB of RAM when you use direct I/O.

Use of 32 bit setup files of EPMA 11.1.2 to install on windows 7

Hi All Experts,
I need guideline to download the Hyperion EPMA 11.1.2 , from which link I could download and can I use 32 bit setup files to install on 64 bit WINDOWS7.
is it compatible and possible to have Essbase,HFM,FDM HFR tool properly with 64 bit windows 7 for 32 bit setup files of 11.1.2.
Please share your valuable suggestions.

one more thing I want to know about installation can I install Hyperion 11.1.2 on XP , as my intel motherboards LAN device and driver is not supported for server 2003/2008 OS and intel recommended to use WIN7/XP os only, I need Essbase only so which files to be download and also can I install it on XP machine,
I tried for 11.1.3 last year and it worked for essbase (less components of hyperion), just thinking out of certification matrix.
If practically possible let me know.
