Essbase 11.1.2 - Is there a URL to luanch EAS?

I have installed Essbase 11.1.2 sucessfully on a Windows 2008 box. I'm try to figure out how I can access EAS via a URL.
The only way I know how to launch it right now is from the START menu.

Installing Essbase 11.1.1.2 Excel Add In (Client) and EAS on remote laptop

Just got done installing Essbase 11.1.1.2 on a single Win 2003 server. Everything is installed EAS and Essbase Client. However, I need the Essbase Client to be ported to many users that are running Excel 2003. Also, i need EAS client to run from a laptop as instead of having to remote login to the server. My question is do I go through the same install process as I did for Essbase server? Or is there a smoother less complicated way to install. I think for the EAS client, it's ok but trying to roll the Excel Add In to hundreds of users, this could get messy.

You can ask your IT whether they have this in place.

We do have a lot of software, so I'm designing a piece of computer software very similar to "Ninite" (a software updater and silent installer) only specifically designed for my company.

No, all the "direct" links I've ever seen include a version number. Also OS and language, but I assume you can default those. It's the version that's the problem.

Is there a URL to open phone app (not dial a number)?

So I'm using Launch Center Pro (loving it, by the way) but I've come across a bit of an issue. I put in most of the numbers I dial into LCP to act as a speed dial and, as a result, relocated the phone app to the last page of my iPhone. However, if I get a voicemail and miss the notification I have to swipe all the way to the last page to open the app and access them. I'm wondering if there's a URL (like LCP uses, some variation of tel://) that allows me to simply open up the phone app or, if possible, open to the voicemail page? I noticed that when you do dial a number in LCP it opens the prompt window in LCP and not the dial screen in the phone app.

Is there a URL portlet that will display a site in a sub frame (iFrame) ?

Applogies in advance if the terminology is wrong or I am in the wrong forum.
Basically I want to set up a portlet on a page that will display the contents of another web site. So you define a URL and the website that you pointed at is displayed in a sub frame (iFrame) on a page in out web site.
I know this has been done as I have seen it on oracles test portal site. Is this a standard function in portal or do I have to create a specific provider/portlet using the PDK.
Any advise will be appreciated.

I have done something similar, I think that you have to create an HTML Portlet that contains the IFRAME.
then you can set [IFRAME_name].location from Javascript.

I was planning on using t:panelNavigation2 for a public facing website, but have encountered a problem since the urls are action based instead of link based. I need to make sure the spider can find an index all of my links. Or said in other terms, each page must be bookmarkable.

i want to know is there any way that FDQM can validate the source records against essbase. say for example i have a a ud dimension member coming from the source i want to compare this member with essbase member in the outline and pass/fail the validation. can we do this?

Are you processing through the web client or as a batch process?
If you are loading manually through the web then it is standard functionality to highlight any source metadata imported that does not get mapped to a target, you then get the opportunity to correct those members at the Validate stage. If you are setting up mapping tables with specific target members then these have to be valid members in the Essbase outline (although I guess there is a risk that those members change over time and do you mappings stay in sync), it also doesn't do that validation if you upload your maps from template files (.xls / .tra / .trn) or if you have a * to * like mapping.
If you are processing in batch then if there are any members that do not have a vliad target member after import (remember mapping is applied during the import stage) then the batch fails. You can use the AutoMapCorrect feature to overcome this and map to a default 'suspense' type member if that gives you an issue.
Ultimately if you get to the load stage and the combination of members is not valid then FDM produces a load error file, this will contain all of the records exported from FDM that have failed to load to Essbase. What this doesn't easily give you is the source metadata that makes up those failed records.
Can you provide any more info as to your current process and then we might be able to provide a few more pointers.

Smartview- Reporting and Analysis URL not valid

We are currently getting ready to Go Live with Hyperion Planning upgrade to version 11.1.2.2 and have been testing the new smartview version 11.1.2.2.310. Currently within our company, olur security policy does not let the regular User community hit a server name and a specific port. So for years for the general essbase connection we have been using a URL like https://planning.company.com/workspace/SmartViewProviders.
With that URL I can establish a connection to Essbase and Hyperion Planning (the Forms). However when I try to connect to the Reporting Analysis and Framework, I initally get an error that reads "Cannont connect to the provider. The server name could not be resolved". When I click OK, I am able to see the Financial Reporting Folder structure, see the report names, however not able to run the reports.
Is there any way to connect through a DNS entry that masks the server name and port??? OR is there a way on the back end to define the path for the Reporting Analysis Frame worksection so we can have it point to our URL instead of the actual server name?
Any help or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated!! We are going live with this in a couple in a couple weeks and this feature is something users have been waiting for.

New environment: URL timeouts, Configuration failures, EAS login failures

We are migrating hardware of our 9.3.1 environment. We have completely patched our Essbase, EAS, Planning, Reporting, Shared Services to the latest and greatest patches (Essbase 9.3.1.6, EAS 9.3.1.5, Planning 9.3.1.3, SS 9.3.1.1, Reporting 9.3.1.3)
We are in a development environment and 'anything goes' but we are noticing that pulling up Shared Services, Planning URL, Webconsole for EAS are timing out. We are getting time out errors during configuration utilities. The services on one server (for example shared services) are taking over 4 minutes to 'acknowledged'.
Also using esscmd we did a createapp command it takes over 15 minutes to complete.
Could the MSAD setting in Shared Services (we use MSAD for our users, our groups are native) cause the timeouts? In reviewing many log files there is a connection timeout to css.xml which references an external MSAD server that is not in the development domain.
Just look for avenues/ideas/logs to check..

One thing I would like to gripe, why does EAS and Essbase have an installer yet Shared Services requires you to pick and replace various files which just increases the room for error.
According to all documentation we have applied the correct .jar/.ear and other related files to EAS server when stated. We are going to review all logs and patches and then may reapply some to resolve the issue.
I a third note...
Via windows I skipped over a patch for business rules for Shared Services because I wasn't extracting/compating ear files correctly.
I see in Hyperion/common/JDK/Sun/1.4.2/bin the executable to extract/compact jar/ear files but it doesn't work via the windows command prompt. I think this could be our problem.
How can we successfully expand/compact jar/ear files in a Windows environment?
I looked via Google and though it gives me syntax none appear to work

Issue with Essbase - SQL Interface in UNIX box

Hi All,
One of our customer is facing an issue while trying to connect to the Oracle datasource from Essbase version 9.0.1.0.00 in a 64 bit UNIX box. He is using Oracle wired protocol for SQL interface.
Customer has tried the below and getting the below error:
1) Ran the nst-sql.sh file.
2) Edited the odbc.ini file and the .profile file with the required dsn information.
3) From the console selected the open SQL option and received the following error " There are no datasources defined. Please create one to continue"

The essbase user needs to be restarted to be able to see the new odbc.ini entries.
After editing the files you mentioned, did you restart the essbase services?
At the very least, did you exit EAS, then restart EAS? (I don't remember which one of these will do it.) If your entries are correct, then one of these should get the essbase user to 'see' the odbc connection.
Also, it might help to remove extraneous entries in the .odbc.ini file, kind of difficult to read thru all of that.

Not getting data from Essbase in Answers...

Been somewhat mystified by this problem. We have several Essbases which we would like to use i OBIEE. The metadata is imported into a RPD and made available in Answers. When making a report and trying to run, it says that the query generated no results. Ive checked, double and triple checked that were I look for data, there actually is data. Ive been checking with Essbase and the data is there.
The funny thing is, that when I test on the Essbase DEMO database, and can see data fine, and drill about.
The only thing I can find is in the the logfile, where it gives me the following error. The error message below here is the one that makes the most sense...

But it gives me the same errors when drilling about in the DEMO database.
Can this be about some privileges on the Essbase server? We are using OBIEE 11.1.1.3 and Essbase 9.3.3.
Any ideas?

I think I have your answer.
The 11g Release only supports connectivity with Essbase 11.1.1.2 out of the box.
Clearly you need to pull over the correct Essbase client libraries for any other version of Essbase that is not 11.1.1.2 and put them in the appropriate location on your BI Server. In addition you are using Essbase System 9 which actually requires a patch to integrate into OBIEE 11g. If you haven't done on or more steps above then your integration with OBIEE 11g will have difficulties perhaps like what you are experiencing.
A wrote a post last month partially on this topic but you can see where its going from here, http://www.artofbi.com/index.php/2011/03/configure-obi-11g-for-essbase-metadata-import-integration-ootb/. I think a search on support.oracle.com will turn up the path for Essbase System 9 integration with OBIEE 11g but I believe you'll need a password (get from Oracle Support contact) to get it.

FDM : How to map rejected members in Essbase

Hi,
I'm new to FDM, I have a simple mapping in FDM :
Type of mapping : LIKE
thirdparty_code in source file = I_thirdparty_code in essbase
The problem is that there is new thirdparty every day and I cannot update essbase metadata every day so some members are rejected during the EXPORT step.
Is there is way to automaticaly mapped rejected thirdparty to a generic member i_none using FDM ?

There is no out-of-the-box functionality that will let you do this. It could be done via a customized set of scripts but this would require quite a bit of work and I'm not sure it's worth it for the benefit you'd get. What you probably need to do is look at your process around metadata maintenance and updating as metadata that is changing every day is always going to be very difficult to manage.
