Essbase 11 Certification

Hi Guys, I know a lot of question related to essbase certification has already been asked but I have slightly different types of queries; i hope you guys find time to answer them.
I asked oralce for which version of essbase is this 1z0-531 certification is and they replied for 11.1.2.1.
1 - Is this certification for all the versoin of essbase 11?
2 - Is oracle planning to upgrade this certification?
3 - If i do this certification what will happen to my old certification? i think i might have to upgrade my certification too?
I have basic (may be more than basic) knowledge of essbase. I need some answer regarding preperation.
1 - Do i need to read extra books other than oracle documentation?
2 - Can any one list down the topics that one must prepare for certification/came under essbase?

All the answers for the certification test should be found in the 'official' documentation. There is a study guide and topic list available from Oracle for each exam, e.g.:

Only Oracle can answer questions about their plans to upgrade the certification. My guess is that they will eventually, especially because there are some significant changes in 11.1.2.3.500 onward. But you can't take my word for it.
That particular exam says it was "validated against 11.1.1", but Oracle describe it as the "Essbase 11" certification, so they don't distinguish 11.1.1 and 11.1.2 from that perspective. And some of the possible training materials relate to 11.1.2 for sure.

I would like to give Essbase certification by Dec 2011.
Please suggest me which version should I appear for(9 or 11).
Although I am working in Essbase for past 1 month, I am not dealing with great technical issues.

Unless you have some desperate need for the 9 certification, I would strongly recommend 11. Actually, the Oracle website says that the 9 path will be 'retired' in October 2011, so that probably gives you no choice.
EDIT: Was looking at exams again today, and noticed that the 9.0 path is slated for 'retirement' but not the 9.3 path.
I have no tips (never taken an Oracle exam) and there are no sample questions / test provided, but I would simply aim to be confident on all the topics covered - which Oracle provide in detail, for example: http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=&lang=&p_exam_id=1Z0_531

If you have only one month of exposure, you are going to have to work pretty hard to cover the material. At least you are in a position to get some hands-on experience, which is definitely the best way to learn. A support role may give you exposure to a lot of aspects covered in certification, although not all. Perhaps you can arrange access to a sandbox / DEV environment to play on.

Oracle certification Planning/essbase

I am thinking about getting oracle training/certification, which my company is planning to sponsor. I was wondering if someone can suggest some sites or some resources that helps in the certification exams. As John mentioned , posting any questions in forum will means cheating.
I will proabbaly suggest you couple of things to clear it.
1. make sure you have good basic concept.
2. With basic try to have some practical knowledge with some excercices solved as per Bootcamp.
3. From admin part try to explore folders and hierarchy of Hyperion.
4. Have fair knowledge about the logs and what all that it contains.

Is Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0 supported on RHEL5 (5.6) 64-bit OS?

Guys,
I have "Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0 - 64bit" running on "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 6)". The package number for "Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0" for 32-bit and 64-bit is same e.g. "V17389-01 – Essbase Server"
My IS team is planning to upgrade the OS to RHEL5 (5.6) 64-bit.
My question:
Is Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0 supported on RHEL5 (5.6) 64-bit OS?

Questions w.r.t essbase migration

Hi,
I have two queries:
1. We are going to migrate from essbase 7.1.6 to 11.1.2.2. We will follow manual approach i.e create new app in 11.1.2.2 and move all object and data to new app. I want to know is there any non compatibility between these two version w.r.t basic essbase functionality ( like rule file, basic calculation functions etc)?
Note: Our calculation scripts are very basic. There are no complex functions used.
2. We are planning to install essbase 11.1.2.2 on RHEL 5.4. I want to know is Oracle VM is mandatory for this installation or we can directly install essbase 11.1.2.2 on RHEL 5.4?

You wont just be able to copy files from 7x to 11x as there have been multiple changes. If its not lot of work, you should look into recreating these objects in new environment.
Are you moving from windows to linux? if yes, you need to make sure you are taking copies across environments in binary mode.
As for VM being a requirement, I have never ever heard this before. Most of essbase folks want to put essbase on physical box rather than VM. Make sure you validate OS and other software/hardware compatibility for your environment. Essbase as a source in OBIEE 11g and using lookup to Relation database

Hello All,
We are trying to implement Essbase as primary source for our obiee 11g repository and using relational database as secondary source of data.
I was using a lookup functionality in repository to lookup value from one of the Essbase's Dimension's attribute to relational database, however, there is error when testing this in OBIEE Dashboards.
And tried to look this error in support.oracle and googled it but was not able to find anything on it.
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 46008] Internal error: File server\Query\Src\SQLookupUtility.cpp, line 145. (HY000)
Have you had any such issue and how can we pass this issue?
I am trying to find if there are any quick resolution before going to oracle support.

Is Essbase 11.1.1.3 supported as a source for OBIEE 11g?From the certification matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.xls) we can see that only Essbase 9.3.3+ and 11.1.2+ are supported, not 11.1.1.3

Essbase Errors in the log and applications crashing - 11.1.2.0 and 11.1.2.1

We recently started installing a new DEV, CERT and Prod environment. We installed 11.1.2.0 in Dev and then 11.1.2.1 in Cert and Prod. In all three environments we are getting error messages in our essbase logs...“Essbase Error 1042017 - Increase the NetRetryCount and/or NetDelay” We have done all the usual changes to the config file by changing the netretrycount and netdelay settings, however the problem still persists. We are only working with developed applications in Dev, and there it causes those applications to stop. In Cert and Prod, only the sample apps are loaded, but again we get these errors in our logs. Since it spans multiple environments it seems that this is some thing with our environment, but not sure what that would be. Any thoughts?

Error while configuring Hyperion Essbase V 11.1.1.3 post installation

Hi,
I am trying to install Essbase services on windows 2008 - 64 bit VM ware. The main intent of this installation is to migrate the Essbase cubes from V9 to 11.
I downloaded the system installer, 4 foundation services, EPM Architect, Essbase Client and Server files and APS.
The installation went on fine but the configuration failed in the step "deployment to application server" and "register with shared services". Looks like Configuration is expecting the JRE and HTTPserver file in common folder. Tried copying it as well, but still is not working.
Tried to uninstall it through the wizard, but it was not successful. So deleted the Hyperion folder, deleted related reg edit variables and environment variables.
Please note that IIS is not installed in that machine. Tried to install just the essbase, so extracted system installer, foundation service 1,2 and Essbase server and client
Installation was successful but the configuration wizard did not let me choose anything to configure and the services did not start as well.
Please suggest as what all files need to be downloaded and also the installation and configuration steps.

Hello Deepa,
You are installing 11.1.1.3 on an unsupported platform; Windows 2003 Server is the latest Windows Server supported on 11.1.1.3. If you are installing on 11.1.1.2.0 Windows Server 2008 R1 is supported and when 11.1.1.2.1 is released it will support Windows Server 2008 R2.
I recommend you install to a supported platform.

Can Essbase be registered with Shared services if they both belong to different versions

Hi All,
I am analyzing a situation whether Essbase can be registered with Shared services and continue to interact with other components like HFM, FR, Web Analysis, FDMEE, DRM etc, where Essbase will be of one version (possibly 11.1.1.3 or 11.1.2.3) and rest of the products will be of a different version (11.1.2.4). I would like to understand if they can coexists and interact with each other in the same landscape and the possible issues or risks associated with it.

Based on that the 'official' answer would seem to be "no", but whether it works is another question (I don't know).

Essbase 7.3.1 --- Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit)

Could Essbase version 7.3.1 run in a Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) machine?
Better yet, is it supported/certified?

Your best bet would be to be able to get hold of DBAG for version 7
If you already have it in your organization then it should be available under installed documents else this thread may help you find one

I do not think there was a separate certification matrix file for version 7 as we get it now with latest versions

Smartview 11.1.2.1 - Compatible with Essbase 9.3.1?

Migrating from 9.3.1 Planning/Essbase to 11.1.2.1 However company wants to run concurrently for a few months. How can users do this with only one version of Smartview installed? Can 11.1.2.1 Smartview work against the 9.3.1 Essbase databases?

Hyperion Certification - Practice Exams?

I'm planning to take Hyperion Essbase and Planning certifications and preparing for them now.
My company is a Oracle Gold partner and I have checked in OPN and OTN for any practice exams
with some sample questions to get a feel of the certification tests and assess my preparation so far.
There is so much material in Oracle websites, I am wondering if such tests exists and if I missed them.
If anyone knows if such test exists, could you please share the link?

If you are referring to the Oracle Essbase 11 Essentials, there are not sample questions for this exam. There are also no sample questions for the Oracle Hyperion Planning Essentials. Typically, if there are sample questions or practice exams available, they will be listed as links on the exam pages under the 'Additional Information & Resources' section.
