Will the below Essbase Upgrade steps work (From version 7.1 to Version 11.1.2.1 directly)?
1. Install Essbase 11.1.2.1 in one server (new) and Shared Services in another server (new). Both the new servers with Win 2008 OS.
2.Login to EAS console in the new server. Open the outline version 7.1 and then migrate to version 11.1.2.1.
3. Copy the artifacts (such as Calc Scripts and Rule Files etc.) from the Old Essbase directory (Version 7.1) to the new Essbase directory (Version 11.1.2.1).
4. Extract data from the old system and import into the new system.
5. Export Essbase security from old system and import to the shared services of the new system. This might requires some manual interventions.
Or, do I have to upgarde from version 7.1 to 11.1.1.3 and then from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.1?

EPMA Essbase vs. Classic Essbase | Best practice question

Dear all,
With no formal training on the topic of EPMA but with the experience of using it together with Planning, I'm aware that deployment in EPMA is destructive for any content created manually in the Essbase application under it.
e.g. when doing a full deployment all manually added calculation scripts will be erased.
I have following questions about the Essbase EPMA applications:
Is Essbase deployment similar destructive as with EPMA Planning?
Must all application content also reside in both EPMA and calculation manager? Is it possible to only use EPMA to control master data and do all other actions in Essbase?
I see a real added value of using EPMA for a client of mine but if I (fear that I) might need to tell them to migrate all their scripts from Essbase administration console to Calculation manager. As such, it will be hard to find the added value of the switch for them.
What about Essbase studio? I'm not aware of any need for Essbase studio in the context of a Planning EPMA implementation, but what about Essbase EPMA? Is this a must-do, adviced or just nice to have?

It depends what you mean by destructive, if you mean does it suffer from the same sort of problems then yes, personally I find it difficult to understand the benefits of moving away from a classic way of maintaining essbase applications to an EPMA managed world, just my opinion.
You should be able to see use calc scripts in the same way as before and the same goes for other functionality.
Essbase Studio is required as EPMA uses some of the codeline to deploy the applications to Essbase.

I Installed Oracle Hyperion Foundaion services,esbase and planning.
i deployed essbase in standalone mode.
when i run EPM system Diagnostic I am geting failes status on
Essbase /Essbase administration service and Essbase / Studio with the Test Description
FAILED CFG: Configuration Check whether all configuration tasks have been completed
Error: Next tasks are not configured:
hubRegistration: Configuration Failed
Recommended Action: Try to configure mentioned tasks
is there any problem because of this?please suggest

If you have moved the server to a new data center and an issue has started occurring then it could point to the change.
Are you able to log into essbase directly with Maxl using the same account?
If you run a registry report do you see any of the configuration with IPs instead of DNS/hostname

Benefits from upgrading from 6.5 Essbase to 11.1 Essbase

I am attempting to build a business case to upgrade our Essbase version from 6.5 to 11.1. Can anyone help me out by identifying major features/functionality that have been added to Essbase in version 7.x, 9.x and 11.x? I will attempt to track down release notes for each version but I am not sure how successful I will be.

Essbase Studio: Error building essbase cube

Hi guys.
When I deploy an ASO cube, I receive this message:
"Error al generar el cubo de Essbase.
Provocado por: Error al cargar datos en la base de datos: bd25.

server.essbase.streamingCubeBuilding=true
The file is located in the <ORACLE_MIDDLEWARE>\user_projects\epmsystem1\BPMS\bpms1\bin

Essbase excel plugin error - "essbase uniquyfyforuser failed to get.."

Hello Everyone,
I have Hyperion and Essbase Fusion Edition installed in the same machine. Whenever I open a new instance of excel, I get the Hyperion (Smart View) addin, but I do not get the Essbase Plugin. Instead I get the following error message:
"essbase uniquyfyforuser failed to get unique name size, code 1355"
Any suggestion would be of great help.

Symptom
SAP Netweaver BEx variables don't show up in BusinessObjects Xcelsius application during refresh
It is not possible to dynamically answer the query prompt differently
error: Failed to get the document information
Cause
A WebIntelligence query on an SAP data source - passing prompt values through a LiveOffice connection in Xcelsius 2008 - does not return any output.
The ability to query an SAP datasource from Xcelsius is currently not fully functionally supported.
Resolution
Additional support for BI variables will be delivered with Enhancement Request # ADAPT01178138:
Direct access from BOBJ Xcelsius Designer to SAP BW BEx queries, via a new SAP Menu and connectivity to BI Consumer Services
The new access type does not go via BusinessObjects Enterprise (so no QaaWS or LiveOffice involved), instead the SAP Embedded Analytics connector creates .SWF visualizations which are published back into NetWeaver to handle authentication & data fetch run.
Prerequisite system requirements:
SAP NW BW 7.0.1 SP5 (Sept 2009)
Xcelsius Designer 2008 SP2 (end July 2009)
BEx Front-end GUI Patch 9.01 (available)

Can you try providing the port number together with the server name?
If you are using the embedded http server then it is FAIRY:9000.
The port number can vary (depending upon the selection you made)
Also check Hy9eas.log under diagnostics/services folder and see any error message is there in that.

One more think i want to ask you is i don't have hyperion planning as Technology in topology maneger in my ODI.
Though, in my oracledi\lib\scripts\xml directory, i have TECH_HyperionPlanning.xml
So,how to import technology to have this OR I need something else for this....

Essbase cube empty vs Essbase data file not empty. It is possible?

Hi Guys,
This morning end-users has alerted that our planning cube has no data. I have verified that the export file was completely empty despite that Essbase data file (ess00001.pag) is about 3 MB. How does it is possible? I am trying to recover the proper situation using backups buit I don't know how to identify when database was cleaned (end users dind't acces to essbase since 2 weeks ago).

Could the level 0 data have been zeroed out, and no agg run to propagate the zeros (or #Missing) to upper levels?
Did you at one time have some data in the database, then lock n send to overwrite?
If you had performed a database reset, that would leave no page file. If you simply overwrote data, then you could have some fragmentation (when data is overwritten, the data is written to a new space in the page file with the index pointing to new data. This leaves the prior data behind with no index pointer to it, but it's still in the page file.)
Was the export file of all data, or level zero data?
If it was level 0 export, perform an export all (3mb is not that much) to verify if there is any data. If not, I'd chalk it up to fragmentation.

Muliple Essbase Option after the Essbase 11.1.1.3 client install?

Has anyone come across this issue where after the 11.1.1.3 client install for some computers the Essbase option shows up thrice in addins?
The essbase retrieve etc works fine though.

Essbase Studio--cannot set essbase properties at parent level

Hi,
I have a recurssive hierarchy product dimension.Source is an oracle table something like
Parent child alias
P p1 ap1
p p2 ap2
p1 p11 ap11
p1 p12 ap12
I have an self-join between parent and child column and have no issues related to hierarchy building
However i am able to set an alias to all other members except the member P.
Any advice on the issue will be helpful!!!

Is P the Dimension name?
For example the dimension is entity and the hierarchy is
Entity all entities
Entity Alternate pollup
All Entities zzz
If so, you would set the properties directly for the Dimension member
IF it is not, then can you add where P is a child of the dimension member?
In recursive hierarchies, you should only be setting the properties on the child members as they should be the parent of other members or the level zero members themselves

Error 1030723 Unable to get UTF-8 locale when using Essbase API 11.1.1

Now I got a question about how to connect to an Essbase Server by using essbase client API (11.1.1). I encountered an error “Unable to get UTF-8 locale” when I tried to EssInit((pInitStruct, phInstance) API.
However, I had no problem to call the API if I uses essbase previous client APIs (7.1 or 9.3).
I passed the “ESS_API_UTF8” to usApiType field in the ESS_INIT_T struct. When I openned the “essapi.h” header file, I found these are some new fields (highlighted in red color below) added in the essbase client API (11.1.1)

I could not find any document to introduce the API (11.1.1. And what does the error “Unable to get UTF-8 locale” mean? How can work around it. Any environment parameters or paths need to be set?
