Essbase 9.3.1 installation

Hi,
I am planning to re- install Essbase and EAS 9.3.1 as our system crashed and no backup available. I have the below few questions. I appreciate your help.
1) Is it required to have shared service for Essbase and EAS to work?
2) If we dont need Shared services, do we need a relation database like SQL server/Oracle ?
3) Also do EAS 9.3.1 require an application server for deployment.

I have a problem with my Essbase 11.1.1 installation. In a nutshell when I reboot the machine I can't log in EAS anymore. The only way I found out is just reconfigur EPM system after rebooting but It's just a work around.

AsI read between lines, it seems that you previously were able to access EAS so your installlation is not the problem but you accessing to EAS isthe problem. As you mentioned you are having problems accessing it after rebooting the server, I think it could be a prolem with the services. Please try stopping all the services in this order:
administration servicese
Essbase services 11.1.1.1_Hypservice_1
Foundation
Openldap
and then restart them from bottom to top. Let me know.

Essbase 9.3.1 installation errors

Hi,
I am trying to install and re-install Essbase 9.3.1, since last couple of days on my widows pc. I know the installation sequence now, but still facing below mentioned problems
* After installing and configuring shared services I am unable to login to "http://localhost:58080/interop" with the default user id "admin" and password as "password". Is this the correct way or do I need to create a user called "admin" somewhere?
* If I continue to install esb_client & esb_server installations after that and also configuring the same. I get the error msg "registration parameters are not valid" while configuring.
Also, the "http://localhost:58080/interop" link which was opening before ceases to open even though the shared services are running as a windows service in background.
I am more or less following instructions mentioned in the following blog and also referring to Oracle documentation:

I am using Windows Vista Business Edition with Service Pack 1 installed.
I tried again everything. I followed the sequence and rebooted my laptop after every install and configuration.
Somehow I was able to get the Shared Services up and running. I was able to log-in using default user id "admin" and password as "password". Even i ran shared services manually as you mentioned and checked that no errors were getting generated. The connection with database and appserver were fine.
But unfortunately, after I installed the esb_client (Rebooted after install) and esb_server (Rebooted after install), I ran the configuration utility to configure essbase server. It did not configure and prompted an error "Registration parameters are not valid".
Then I tried to check whether my Shared Services are running fine by manually starting them again. But this time it threw lot of errors with one of them being "unable to connect to database". This is really strange as there was no issue with Shared Services before the esb_client and esb_server install. I even tried logging into "http://localhost:58080/interop" but was unsuccessful and got the same error "user:admin not found".
I am thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling everything again.
Please help and let me know what shoud I do? Is essbase 9.3.1 compatible with Vista Business Edition?
Also let me know if you need any output of my log files.

Essbase 11.1.2 installation error

Hi All,
I have installed the EPM(Essbase) first time
1) Essbase 11.1.2 server part 1 and 2,
2) client ,
3) foundation part1,2,3,4
4) additional contents
and the installation was successful.
But i found two exceptions in the log file.
I don't know what problem it will cause during configuration.

How do you know it is a definite problem, I have seen errors in the installation logs it doesn't always mean there is a problem.

Essbase 11.1.3 installation in Win7 64 bit laptop

Hello,
I am planning to install Essbase in my win7 laptop. Pls let me know what are the files required? Do I need to install Oracle or SQL server separately for the RDBMS to connect to the Essbase or is it come along with Essbase installation kit? If so how to configure that?

Problems w/ Essbase 9.3.1 Installation

Hi, I am new to essbase. i have installed shared services, essbase server, and admin services to a winxp machine. after going thru all the steps in the config util and deploying all services to tomcat, rebooted machine, and started all services (shared services, ldap, bi+ analytics, and admin services), I wasn't able to see the essbase server inside shared services. the only component i could see inside shared services project folder is "business rules." if the installation was done properly, i should be able to see "Analytic Server:Servername" inside the project folder in hss. Also, I could not see the essbase server w/in the admin svc console. would anyone know what i have done wrong in the installation? i can't seem to get past this point.
when i first install, i installed in this order: hss, eas, essbase server. then i uninstalled and reinstalled in this order: hss essbase server, eas. however, i noticed that the tomcat component and settings remained and not all the directories were deleted. after second installation, it looked like there were leftover setting from 1st time installation. any suggestions? would really appreciate help w/ this. thx.

looks like we have many experts on the Essbase Excel Add-in here.
I have a problem that I haven't been able to resolve:
When I use the Essbase Menu in Excel to connect to the Essbase cubes, the login screen comes up and after all credentials are provided and the OK button is clicked all accessible cubes are displayed but after selecting a cube and clicking on OK the login portal does not go away.
It just stays there and the excel is not connected to the server.
I'm using Essbase Excel addin version 9.2.1, and I have already tried out un-installing and re-installing the Excel Addin.
Please help me out here, I have no clue whats going on.

Essbase/AAS Local Computer installation on XP

Hi!
Has anybody been able to install Essbase Server (AAS) on a local XP computer? The whole package worked fine under W2K but the configuration utility doesn't seem to work under XP (it displays as blank once you've installed shared services - i.e. no configuration is available)
Any assistance would be very helpful,

We have installed all of the System 9 versions on XP in our labs multiple times and have never seen this issue. In fact, I am running the entire 9.3.1 stack on my laptop with no issues (other than paging of memory if I runall of the Essbase/EAS/APS/Interactive Reporting/Web Analysis/Workspace/Oracle 11g stuff at one time; my laptop has 4 gb of memory but you need more than that for all of that stuff to run simultaneously)..

Error while configuring Hyperion Essbase V 11.1.1.3 post installation

Hi,
I am trying to install Essbase services on windows 2008 - 64 bit VM ware. The main intent of this installation is to migrate the Essbase cubes from V9 to 11.
I downloaded the system installer, 4 foundation services, EPM Architect, Essbase Client and Server files and APS.
The installation went on fine but the configuration failed in the step "deployment to application server" and "register with shared services". Looks like Configuration is expecting the JRE and HTTPserver file in common folder. Tried copying it as well, but still is not working.
Tried to uninstall it through the wizard, but it was not successful. So deleted the Hyperion folder, deleted related reg edit variables and environment variables.
Please note that IIS is not installed in that machine. Tried to install just the essbase, so extracted system installer, foundation service 1,2 and Essbase server and client
Installation was successful but the configuration wizard did not let me choose anything to configure and the services did not start as well.
Please suggest as what all files need to be downloaded and also the installation and configuration steps.

Hello Deepa,
You are installing 11.1.1.3 on an unsupported platform; Windows 2003 Server is the latest Windows Server supported on 11.1.1.3. If you are installing on 11.1.1.2.0 Windows Server 2008 R1 is supported and when 11.1.1.2.1 is released it will support Windows Server 2008 R2.
I recommend you install to a supported platform.

Essbase Client 32 bit on the Solaris SPARC 64 bit Cognos server - Need help

I now wanted to install a 32 bit Essbase client on this server.
can anyone please let me know if there exists a 32 bit essbae client which can be installed on the SunSolaris SPARC 64 bit OS ?

I will asume the latest version of the essbase client
"EPM System Installer installs both 32-bit and 64-bit Essbase Client on a machine with a 64-bit operating system."
Once it is installed you may need to update the environment variables to point to the 32bit client.

Migrate essbase app from 6 to 9

planning to migrate the app from essbase 6 to esbase 9.to a whole new server.
Any issues with that...any doc on migration from 6 would be useful.

I started to migrate from 6.6 to 9.3.1 and it went quite smooth. What I have done:
Installed the server.
Used the config tool and removed shared services registration.
Copied essbase.cfg to new installation.
Had to add the env variables manually on AIX from the hyperionenv.doc.
Installed the eas server.
Used config tool for config and deployment of eas on std settings.
Installed the eas client and used the migration tool to migrate some databases to the new server from a 6.6 (6.6 running on different machine than 9.3)
Tested our batch processing for data load, security transfers, data staging etc. which uses some api interfaces and ESSCMD and maxl scripts. All without any problems. All settings were kept the same as on the old systems (essbase.cfg, db settings, app settings).

[Disaster recovery] Moving the Essbase server to another physical server

Hi All,
I have 3 Solaris servers part of the EPM 11.1.2.1 environment:
Server1.company.com:
Foundation services, APS, EAS
Server2.company.com:
Essbase Server, Essbase Studio Server.
Installation done on a SAN disk using user ID hypadmin
Server3.company.com:
*Nothing installed here*.
Its the standby server in case Server2 goes down.
Note: I couldn't find any documentation for my below approach... So please understand the risk involved before attempting the same.
Pre-disaster recovery:
I copy the home directory of hypadmin from Server2 to Server3.
During disaster recovery:
I update the Essbase server host name from Server2.company.com to Server3.company.com and similarly update the opmn.xml file.
Finally mount the SAN onto Server2 and start up the services.
Has anyone done the same..? Have you faced any issues? Is there a better way of doing this?

Hi,
I believe the usual way of doing this is to have a DR environment, rather than just one server (so for you you would have 2 DR servers). The DR environment has hosts file entries to map Production host names to DR IP addresses.
In DR you are connected to a separate SQL instance and you install and configure the products exactly as you would for Production (exactly the same hostnames).
Then when you are finished you shut down the DR environment and turn on SQL log shipping between the Production and DR databases.
If your Production environment goes down you stop the SQL log shipping, then you can bring up DR and change the DNS names (as required) to give your users access.
For Essbase storage you can either backup Production cubes to DR or mount the Production SAN in DR. The only problem with the latter is that if Production goes down and the SAN is lost you can't bring up DR fully either.

Unable to start Essbase Studio Server

Hi All,
Am getting an error message when I start Essbase studio. The installation and configuration went without any errors. I have downloaded the jdbc driver for mysql, renamed it and placed it in the correct location. Yet when I start the studio server I get the error message described below. You could try :-
1. Execute the script “catalog_schema_drop.sql” under $HYPERION_HOME\products\Essbase\EssbaseStudio\server\database\common\MSSQLServer to drop the existing Catalog tables
2. Bring up the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and login as sa
a.Expand the Databases node
b.Expand the “epmesbStudio” under the Database node
c.Expand the “Security” node
d.Right click on “Schemas” under the database “epmesbStudio” to bring up the “Schema” dialog:
e.From the Schema dialog, enter ”epmEsbStudio” for both Schema name and Schema owner, then click OK to create the schema.
f. Verify that the schema “epmEsbStudio” is created:
3. Expand the Users node under Security: (you should see the user “epmEsbStudio” listed under Users)
a. Bring up the user Properties for “epmEsbStudio” by right click on “epmEsbStudio” then select Properties
b. From the user Properties dialog, you can see the Default schema is dbo. Change the default schema to “epmEsbStudio”, which is the schema that we create in the above steps by click on the list button to bring up the Select Schema dialog:
c. Click on the Brows button from the Select Schema dialog, and select “epmEsbStudio” from the list and click OK
d.The selected schema should place in the Select Schema dialog. Click OK on the Select Schema dialog:
e. Now the schema “epmEsbStudio” should appeared as Default schema on the user Properties dialog.
f. Now make sure the Database role membership “db_owner” is selected (select this option if it is not already select).
g. Click OK to save the settings
4. Bring up the Query editor from the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio by click on the “New Query” and make sure the

8. Type the following statement in the query editor, and execute it. The query should be executed without any problem.

9. Verify the table is created under the “epmEsbStudio” Schema:
10.Delete the table “Test”
11.Start the Essbase Studio Server
The properties file should read
Example in server.properties
catalog.db=epmesbStudio.epmEsbStudio
catalog.username=epmesbStudio
You can change "epmEsbStudio" to match your database being used for studio

How to install Essbase 9

Hi All
This is a new comer for Essbase, today encounter an urgent issue for setup Essbase 9.3.1 on Linux platform. I installed that but can't start Administration Services console , thereby I can not to create database and operate. I have installed Administration Service and Essbase server. I don't very clearly that installation sequence, Could anyone can offer me a process for Essbase 9.3.1 installation ? and which components needed for it and how to install it ?

Office 2003 - Client Version 7.1.5

Hi, We are using both Essbase and TM1, during installation each piece of software knocks the other out of the.. "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options\OPEN" registry key. It is possible to work around with a VB Script which adds the following back into the registry.. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Excel\Options] OPEN="/R \"C:\\Hyperion\\essbase\\BIN\\ESSEXCLN.XLL\"" OPEN1="/R \"C:\\Hyperion\\essbase\\BIN\\ESSXLEQD.XLA\"" OPEN2="\"C:\\Program Files\\Applix\\bin\\tm1p.xla\"" However, my question is whether or not a user can actually repair this themselves using the usual Excel, Tools, Add-ins, Search function to find the add-in file again. When they do this using Office 2003, ESSEXCLN.XLL is not valid because it does not have a .XLA file extension. Anybody know of a 'user' workaround, we have policy implications for sending .VBS files around the network. Thanks, Dave 

I have read somewhere (here or network54) that if a prior version of office was installed (and Office2k3 is an upgrade), that the install works. What prior version of Office (97 or 2k), I don't know. (Thinking out loud here..) The the add-in installer must be looking for a reg key to confirm that Excel has been installed, so you might be able to use a registry inspector utility to determine what keys the installer is reading, then add the reg entry(s) as as a prerequisite of the add-in install. As a side note, I don't know that Excel2k3 is officially supported, so be careful. It may be 99% compatible, but if the one item that isn't compatible turns out to be a major issue with youer apps, and you just deployed XL2k3 to a lot of users, it could be a big headache.
