Essbase add-in locked on network

Hi,We have the Essbase add-in file on a network drive and all users connect to this file.It works fine, but from time to time the add-in is locked by a user and nobody can connect anymore.Do you know why the add-in gets locked ?

The easiest way to deal with this type of problem is to have your citrix server admins check the "One instance per user only" button on the application's configuration. This way if they try to open an additional session of Excel, it's tough noogies.
The other option of course is to use the connection center to kill any open excel processes. In the lower right of your screen with a citrix application running (showing as a grey square with a red spot) right click and open the Connection Center. You can then see any open apps and options to knock them out (kind of like task manager on your local machine).

  • Essbase ADD-in and SSL

Anyone know a way to secure a connection from the ADD-In?
I cannot get the Essbase Add-in to use SSL. Even with a load balancer doing offload.
    Any ideas?

I believe your options are limited (to say, VPN access).
It's generally deemed not that important to have the add-in traffic secured. The data is being sent in a form that doesn't lend itself to easy reads and the login credentials are encrypted (finally). A casual observer with a network traffic monitor wouldn't get anything usefull, while a hacker applying intentional effort would be better off hacking an account and pulling the data directly.

  • Query re:SmartView over Essbase add-in as Oracle's strategic direction

    Hi All,
A few years back when Hyperion introduced the Smart View add-in, I recall that the sales and marketing guys were saying that the Essbase add-in would be eventually phased out and that Smart View would replace it as the preferred way to access Essbase\Planning\HFM applications.
I even recall seeing some presentations about it but a few years later on, the Essbase add-in is still around and there are still a lot of people still using the Essbase add-in.
    As such:
    1. I was wondering if anyone had ever seen any document(s) confirming that Smart View was indeed part of the Oracle's strategic direction for MS Office add-ins. It's just that I am trying to get some users to stop using the v9.3.x Essbase add-in to lock&send data to some v9.3.x Essbase cubes in a Planning application and am trying to steer them towards the v9.3.1.6.x Smart View add-in instead on the basis that it is part of Oracle's strategic direction.
    2. Has anyone ever encountered issues with users using the Essbase add-in to lock&send data to the underlying Essbase cubes which are part of a Planning application?
    Cheers,
    JBM

The only issue I know of with users doing a lock and send from the classic add-in is that a direct send does not impose the same restrictions as do the planning forms.^^^It shouldn't matter if you use the add-in or SmartView -- the Essbase Write role determines the write rights.
There's no other way to do it unless of course you're going behind the scenes and somehow altering the username READ filter and making it a WRITE. Planning doesn't use the username to do writes unless that Essbase Write role is provisioned.
Btw, the only issue (and it is kind of a big one) with Essbase Write is that it doesn't support locking time periods as this is done in forms, not Essbase security.
Obviously the classic add-in doesn't support Planning forms, Smart View does. That's a big, big reason in the Planning world to use SmartView.

  • Accessing Essbase cubes within a HP application using Essbase add-in

    Hi All,
I've been told in the past by Oracle Support personnel that accessing the Essbase cubes within a Planning application using the MS Excel Essbase add-in is "a very bad idea" and that such an approach "is not supported\recommended by Oracle due to potential issues" (which the support person could not tell me about).
Unfortunately, I have not found any information in the Planning documentation which supports or not this recommendation.
    As such:
    1. Could anyone point me in the right direction in terms of finding out whether it is recommended\supported (or not) for users to access Essbase cubes within a Planning application using the Essbase add-in?
    2. Has anyone ever experienced issues accessing Essbase cubes within a Planning application using the MS Excel Essbase add-in? If yes, what were these issues??
PS: We are on v9.3.1.x of Essbase\Planning and will be moving over to v11.1.2.x in the next 6-8 months.
    Thanks in advance,
    JBM

    Hi Rob,
Thank you for your prompt & informative response.
On the topic of metadata, I am aware of what happens when changes are made directly to an Essbase outline which falls under a Planning application without going following the proper method ... and I agree that it ain't pretty! :-)
On the topic of locking\sending data to the Essbase cubes within a Planning application, I also understand that it works quite well in as much as the data is saved in the appropriate intersections within the Essbase cube, as permitted by the security assigned to the user.
I was more interested in whether such a practice of locking\sending data directly to Essbase cubes within a Planning application was actually encouraged or discouraged by Oracle.
And please correct me if I am wrong but from what you are saying, it seems to me that it is neither as:
    - on one hand, the "Essbase Write" HSS feature allows administrators to create security groups and assign this type of provisioning to security groups in question;
    - on the other hand, Oracle Support seems to be verbally discouraging such a practice for no real reasons related to technological limitations;
The problem that I have is that because some users at our site know that they can lock\send data to Essbase cubes within a Planning application and as a result, not only want to get us to grant similar lock\send access to other users but are now more reticent than ever to move away from the Essbase add-in as a means to load\submit data to a Planning application. And that's why I was after some formal recommendation from Oracle as to whether it is a recommended practice or not.
Anyway, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    JBM

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • Problem with Essbase add-in 9.2.1 and office 2010.

    Hi all,
we have a problem with Essbase add in 9.2.1 and office 2010.
Every time when a user opens Excel a new (additionally) euntry in the ad-on menue appears.
Indeed what happens is, that the add-in is loaded n-times.
At the first start of excel one time, second two times and so on...
    Thtas's very annoying.
Can someone confirm this issue or even better know a workaround.
(A way we have found so far to ease the pain a bit -well only temporary- is to disable the ad-in, close Excel and start it again.
However with every new start of execel the issues begins again.
But that's not a solution you can recommand to the end user.)
    Any help is welcome.
    Thank you in advance!

I have a user who is getting the following error:
Excel experienced a serious problem with the 'c:\oracle\middleware\epmsystem11r1\products\exceladdin\bin\essexcin.xll" add-in. . . .Do you want to disable this add-in?
Do we need to reinstall the Essbase add-in ?
I have had the user disable other add-ins via 'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins and that didn't resolve the problem.
Are there any compatibility issues with 64 bit Excel?
Also, after installing Essbase add-in, what are the items that should appear
    'File > Options > Add-ins > Excel add-ins
    Excel version : 2010
Add-in version Essbase Spreadsheet add-in, Fusion Edition 11.1.2
I would appreciate a quick response.

The user has the following items:

Oracle Essbase OLAP Server DLL (Non- Unicode)

We have Hyperion Planning version 3.0.0 installed in the system.
Also while connecting from Excel with the server we get a warning message stating " The version of Essbase(65000) is older than the version of the Essbase API(65200) you are using".
If we proceed further, we are able to connect to the application and retrieve the dimensions and the members. But the "Member Selection" and the "Find" property doesn't work throwing the error message "Invalid Command 11607 Received in Request Manager".

  • Essbase Add-in and Office 2010 double clicking drilling down issue

We have Office 2010 and Essbase Add-in 6.5.4 and some users are having issues when double clicking to zoom in. When using the double-click to drill down, it flashes a few times and drills down to the lowest level even though it is setup to zoom to the next level. It works when you use zoom in from the menu and this doesnt happen to all the users. Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

We had similar issue but with lower versions of excel where a double click acts continously till the lowest level is reached for the member selected. Notice that all the members are not at the lowest level, it only happens for the current selected cell in excel.
In my case a re-install of add-in worked. Have you tried re-installing add-in. See that unistall is complete before re-installation. As you understand the problem is not with all machines/users, hence it should not be an issue with add-in.

  • Essbase add-in Error (duplicate name found in grid)

    Hi,
I have upgraded from 7.3 to 9.2 essbase add-in and get the following error when zooming into a product dimension - seems to be a problem with base member name and alias showing duplicates!
However this error does not occur on a new installation of 9.2 where there was no previous version of essbase add-in!
Has anyone experienced this or know of a work around? - the Cube is built using ASO/AIS

Same issue here. I have a call in with Novell for this, so hopefully it will get sorted soon. I suggest others with this issue raise calls as well to get it up the priority list.

  • Essbase Add-in Error - Cannot Find Message Database

Error #1040007 - Cannot find message database. Error received launching either the essbase add-in or app manager.Arbor path has been verified in path statement, and is first. Running under Win 2000, no changes to PC.Can anyone advise what may be causing this problem? Specific question: Where would the "message database be located?".Randy [email protected]

It's used to point to the message database (seriously)... LOL! I've never seen it used anyplace I've done Essbase and to my knowledge no one has ever been the worse off for it. It's probably just as well that you deleted it.Regards,Bruce

  • Excel crashes due to Essbase add-in

    Hi,
I have Essbase 11.1.1.3 and am using the excel addin 11.1.1.3 on Office 2003 in Win XP. One issue everyone is facing is that, once we install the excel add-in on their machine, they are unable to run any other tool that launches excel.
For example if they try to export something from JD Edwards, when excel launches, it crashes and they get the "fatal error...excel has crashed etc etc" error message. If I unregister the essbase add-in, it exports fine.
They have a lot of other excel add-ins as well and those "play nice" with each other but many of the add-ins have issues with the essbase excel addin.
Has anyone faced such an issue?
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought that only controlled the mouse actions though? I tried it anyway. Still doesnt work.

  • Excel 2010 & Essbase Add-In

    Hi,
We are using Essbase version 9.3.1. Recently, some of my users have upgraded to Excel 2010. They had been using it fine for about a month, and then all of a sudden, they started getting the error "Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:Hyperion\AnalyticServices\bin\essexcln.xll' whenever they try and use the Essbase Add-In.
The only work around that I have found is that if they navigate to that path and click on the add-in and then open Excel, it will work fine, but obviously, that is not the optimal solution.
I have gone and downloaded Essbase version 9.3.3 and installed on the machine, but the same error is occurring. I don't see how this could be a problem, seeing that usually it is OK to use a newer version of the add-in, even if the overall product is on the older version.
We are planning on upgrading all of our products to 9.3.3 in the next couple of months, but I have a feeling that will not solve the add-in/Excel issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi ,
The error which you are getting is due the Excel. Because Excel Disables
    the Essbasee Addin some time.
When you get the same error follow the below steps.
    1) Open Excel
    2) Go to Home menu
    3) Options -> Add-ins -> Select Disable Add-Ins
    4) Select the Essbase Add-ins and Click on Enable.
    5) Click Ok.
    6) Restart Excel
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1731 "AirPort Express: How to join an existing Wi-Fi network in client mode" = 'Add to an existing network' will not result in pure client mode

Choosing that option will always end-up in extending my wireless network.
What I want to achieve is to just add my AE to the existing WIFI network and to use it for local access like AirPlay or Printing.
No other client e.g. iPhone, iPad etc. should be able to connect to that AE wireless.
So it seems that there's one step missing in that description.
As a last step you need to manually change the set-up so that Network Mode shows 'connect to wireless network'.
Afterwards your AE will be finally in 'Cient Mode'.
    I_am_Andy

Thanks you!  Apple's documentation is either contradictory or incomplete.  To configure a factory default AE to "join" a network with
Airport Utility 6, you must first select "Add to an existing network".  That results in the AE extending a network.  Then later, edit the configuration (wireless tab) to specify "join" rather than "extend".
You can "join" a network which has already been extended; this improves the wireless reach, since you can not extend a network which has already been extended.  So you can have:
Apple Extreme  <---->  Apple Express (extending)  <------>  Apple Express (joining)  <-----> ethernet-device
