Essbase admin view

Regarding - Hyperion Planning, Administration, Manage, Dimensions
In version 11.1.2.0 , the manage dimensions screen showed the source plan type a dimension belongs to by default
In version 11.1.2.3 it does not show the source plans type by default anymore.
An option exists under view/ columns to add plan source type and other columns as well.
One can alos increase the width of fileds e.g. Alias
Once selected, is there a way to save the 'view' as a deafult so you do not have to modify it every time?

No I'm talking about re-arranging the columns. Lets' say in Workspace the columns are Name, Modified, Type, Description and I moved Modified to the last.
It'll remember that setting and the next time I login the columns will be arranged as Name, Type, Description, Modified. However the same is not the case with Planning.

I've installed & configured Hyperion 11.1.2.2. When i entered admin & password in EAS console, the message is displaying as Essbase Administration server is not responding. Can you pls. let me know, what is the service for Essbase Admin services. Also when i'm trying the link http://servername:9000/interop, page not found is displaying. Is it must that Hyperion Configuration Manager service should be up & running ? Where i can find the service for shared services ? where i can find all the related services of different hyperion products. Thanks in advance for the help

If you have deployed all the web applications to a single managed server then there will be one service to start the web apps - "Hyperion EPM Server - Web Application"

The default port is 9000, if you are still having problems then it is worth checking the logs.

Business Rules creation stops Essbase Admin Server

I am trying to create a simple rules file to upload actual data but 4 out of 5 attempts causes Essbase Admin Server to Stop. In my rules file, I followed these steps:
1. inserted three new columns using text
2. skipped the first row under data source properties
3. under field properties, selected the various dimensions to represent each column. I was not specific in the dimensions selection as the data has various accounts, market, product.
4. some of them were prefixed with alphabets to correlate to Essbase data.
5. validated the rules file - no errors - rules file is correct for loading data
I was doing the rules file in stages ie. rule1 had only field properties set up. rule2 had three columns inserted in addition. rule3 while inserting the same three columns stopped the server !
Essbase log dint show server disconnecting or error messages! is this some sign of server to crash soon :( or file corruption :(

I haven't encountered a load rule crashing EAS before, but I have had other simple tasks, such as opening an outline, do it. The issue there was to change the Essbase ports from the default in the essbase.cfg file. We chose SERVERPORTBEGIN 42000 and SERVERPORTEND 43000. I have no way of knowing if this is your issue, but strange EAS crashes like that make me suspiscious that it might be. There is no reason I can think of why a load rule should crash EAS...

External Users not able to login to Essbase Admin Services.

Hi,
We are facing strange problem in one of our Essbase 9x environments. In this environment, we installed Shared Services, Essbase Admin Services in one server and Essbase in another server.
We configured MSAD and provisioned some users. Now, these users are able to login to Essbase, Shared Services without any issues but not to EAS. Whats more strange is, Native users are not facing any issue while logging to EAS, Essbase. Just externally authenticated users are having this problem.
We checked the logs, but nothing to deduct from them. The EAS screen is just hanging as soon as credentials are entered. We did lot of troubleshooting and even Oracle Support is working
and is of the opinion that the issue is because we installed EAS Console on Virtual Machine which is out of their policy.
Any suggestions are welcome!!

I found something that may help or you may have seen this and rectified it already.
When i started the services in foreground, External users are able to login.
This is what i got in the cmd prompt.

Help: BPC admin view stuck in creating a new App set

Hello,
We have SAP BPC 7.5.05.1002 NW. I have tried to create a new app set by copying an existing application set. The BPC admin view has been stuck for a couple of hours now. I have a dialog box on the screen, with the message "Waiting for the server's response....". The "OK" button is greyed out.
I would appreciate any help on this. What would happen if I were to cancel this (shut-down my BPC front end)? Would that cause any problems in the BPC application or the application set which is copied across to the new app set?

Essbase Admin Console

hello,
I just update my computer from XP to Win7 and I was installed Hyperion & Essbase 11113 on the new PC but when I want to use the Essbase Admin Console, I discover it's missing from my Program Folder and I tried reinstall Essbase again but problem is same.
Can somebody teach me how to get the Console back, thank you for help.

Essbase add views to existing aggregation

Hello All,
I need help adding new views to an existing .csc file.
Here is the process:
1)     After cube data is loaded query tracking is enabled
2)     Users run their retrieves
3)     Aggregation is saved and new views are added to the existing views in the file
The MaxL I have for step 3 is the following:
execute aggregate selection on database application.database based on query_data dump to view_file myviewfile;
The following error displays with this script:
Viewfile [] already exists
Unexpected Essbase error 12141180
What do I need to do to add the views to the existing file?

Thanks John - I wasn't sure of that myself and ran a quick test last night, your skepticism prompted me to re-run it.
The first time around I was sure it produced a file that contained all existing views plus the new ones (which isn't strictly the same as appending to the file, but produces the same results in this situation). However, when I retest in the cold light of day, it doesn't contain all the existing views - only some of them, presumably because they just happen to have been reselected by the new selection process.
There is some syntax in the Tech Ref which purports to ensure that existing views wind up in the new script, which may help the o/p:
execute aggregate selection on database app.db using views 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 with outline_id 12345 force display based on query_data force_dump to view_file filename;
The choice of 'display' or 'suppress' keywords determines whether the new file contains the existing views or not. There doesn't seem to be a shorthand for listing out the view ids, which is a bit of a pain. The view ids can be obtained from the original view file (they are the values on every other line from the third line onward) or as output from:
query database app.db list existing_views;
Never actually used this except just now to test it. It'd be a good idea to back up the existing view file regardless of approach. If I used the above syntax, I think I'd be inclined to use 'suppress' to produce a second script rather than modifying the original.

Best practice for Admin viewing contents of network homes

How are you viewing the contents of your users' network home directories in the gui?
Is there a better way than logging in locally as root? I'd like to do this over AFP if possible.
Can I make an HomeAdmins group and propogate that group to have read access to all users' home folders? How about for new homes that are subsequently created?

You probably know this already, but:
1. Nothing bad should happen if you change the group owner of your home directories unless you're using the current group ownership for something important.
2. If you set the setgid bit on the root directory of the sharepoint and it is owned by the admin group then new folders created within should have the group owner you want. There are various ways to ensure the home directories would have the proper permissions.

Providing HR Admin/TIme Admin view like MSS

Hi,
I am trying to develop Time Admin/HR Admin/Delegated MSS view just Like MSS . So, these administrator can see the employees and approve time and request leave request and perform clock-in/out entries.
As you know MSS goes A012 relationship. I tried to use B290 relationshipvfor this one. but MSS Team calendar views are not showing the employees.
How cana achive through OADP. What kind Group Views I can use.
What exactly the steps I need to perform.
Is there any other group org structure views I need to use.

Now regarding Custom relationship, Yes adding in evaluation path should work in T77AW and then adding to the correct organization view in OADP customization as explained in WIKI or you can use FM.
check the wiki for the exact tables etc,
Let me know if you run into any issues.
Also regarding the EHp5 roles,
You can create a area group of EHp4 and then add that into EHp5 using LPD_cust
or use two different roles

Essbase - Smart View

Hello,
I have created New Essbase Cubes/Applications in EAS , and I also restarted the APS Services.
Yet I cant see the new Essbase Applications when I open the Smart View connection.
Is there anything which should be needed to be done in order to get the new Applications shown in Smart View.

Essbase Smart View report

When using the Essbase Excel Add-in, you can highlight part of the Essbase report and refresh only that part. By doing this, you can have multiple Essbase reports on one Excel tab.
I tried and can't do this in SV (we are using 931). Is there a way to have more than 1 smart view report in one tab?

SmartView is definitely not the Essbase Add-in.
I have found that even the "Highlighted Selection Refresh" doesn't behave as I would expect.
One solution I can see for this situation is to have a sheet that links to 2 tabs. Each tab has 1 SV report.
There is feature Refresh All Sheets. I find this to be very useful and it works great.

I have not opened any excel ,so donot understand whats this errir for and how to solve it.

You probably have one of the other Office applications running - remember, Office is not just Excel and Smart View works with those other applications too - and / or it's open invisibly. If you open task manager and look at Processes you may see an instance of EXCEL.EXE (for example) even though Excel isn't visible as an application on your desktop.

Monitoring and Alerting from Essbase Admin Console.

We are running a calculation scripts in Essbase 11.1.1.1 about 4 times a day. Sometime this scripts just failed or take too much time. Is there any machanisim/configuration in EAS that when scripts fails then the admin or users can get message?

Hi Samar,
EAS is not going to give you this. However there are some tools that will.
Accelatis Ascension Suite will provide a complete range capabilities to address what you require and much more. It will monitor your logs, track events you define, and take action(send email, kill process, etc) on failure or success.
If you want to go the free route, I think the first step is to take a look at jRightLog. It provides log tailing and parsing into a format where you can then store the data in a database somewhere for later analysis. Once you get the data in the database, you create a server to monitor it and provide feedback as it does.
