Are you sure you are entering the correct information, is the database definitely up and running, can you connect to the database using something like SQL Developer as that uses JDBC which is the same when you use the EPM configurator.
Sometimes if it is a personal install and the Oracle database has not been installed correctly you might have to use localhost in the server name configuration.

Essbase Administration Services: Cant connect to Administration Server

Cant connet to Administration Server via EAS console. I would appreciate any hints that might help me overcome this next unknown.
Background follows:
I installed EPMA 11.1.2.2, and then went to the workspace wondering where the sample data was (after I created a sample app). I discovered in docs and forumns that I had to load it through the Essbase Administration Services console. Now I'm trying to get that to work. I installed it after posts revealed that it is part of the client installers (thanks John) package. Now that it is installed I run it, try to login, and get an error message that says "could not connect to Administration Server." I reinstalled the EAS database as a new install to my server.mydomainb.org:1433 via the configurator. Then I redployed all the apps to the app server. And lastly started all of the services. Still I get the same message. I've done this about 4 times hoping that a reconfig will somehow fix something but still no joy. I've also tried loggin in with different names for the server such as myserver:1433 or myserver.mydomain.org:1433 or myserver and none of those helped either.
I have manually started all the services so they appear to be working. I may be missing one but I wouldn't know.
The services that are running include:
Hyperion EPM Server - Web Application
Hyperion EPMA Server
Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management
Hyperion Integration Services
Hyperion Reporting and Analysis Framework
Hyperion Studion Services BPMS bpms1
Some in posts have suggested also going to the logs. 11.1.2.2 docs say that the EAS logs are located at oracle_home\user_projects\domains\epmsystem\servers\EssAdm..Services0\logs\easserver.log. But I found mine at:
<oracle_home>\user_projects\domains\epmsystem1\servers\logs. You will notice that my empsystem is empsystem1 instead. There I found that the easserver.log file is empty but I did find one error in the file EPMServer0.log. The error I found is as follows:

"Hyperion EPM Server - Web Application" indicates that the web apps have been deployed to a single managed server, this means the web apps will be running a default port of 9000, the EAS console is not aware of the port so you will need to include it when you add the server in the console e.g. servername:9000

I Installed Oracle Hyperion Foundaion services,esbase and planning.
i deployed essbase in standalone mode.
when i run EPM system Diagnostic I am geting failes status on
Essbase /Essbase administration service and Essbase / Studio with the Test Description
FAILED CFG: Configuration Check whether all configuration tasks have been completed
Error: Next tasks are not configured:
hubRegistration: Configuration Failed
Recommended Action: Try to configure mentioned tasks
is there any problem because of this?please suggest

DB Deployment failed for Essbase Administration Service 9.3.1

Hi All,
I can not finish the database configuration for my essbase administration service 9.3.1 successfully. I can see that the config tool created some tables and data in my oracle database, but the final state was failure. The configuration utility displayed the following information:

I'm not sure about that. Yes I can not find RHE5 in the supported OS list. RHE4 is in the list though. So do you think this could be the reason?
I really got a lot of problems. Although I can connect to the administration service using the console now, and can create essbase servers, but I can not even connect to the server. It hangs.
Shall I change my OS to RHE4?

Essbase Administration Services Console Login Error.

Hi All,
I am new to Hyperion and Essbase. I have been working in OBIEE for sometime. Few days back I have installed most of the available products in Oracle EPM 11.1.1 in my XP machine with Oracle10g. It looks like all the configuration went good - green marks in EPM System Configuration utility, and I am able to login Shared Services using "hypuser/password".
But when I try to login Essbase Administration Services Console using the following
Server: "MyMachineName",
User: "WindowsUser" &
Pwd: "WindowsPwd"
I am getting an error "Could not Connect to Administration Server machinename".
Could anyone help me in solving this issue.
Do I need to make any change in any parameter files or any other settings need to be done before string exploring the application.
Also, I am struggling to find the starting point to learn Hyperion related products could you please shed some light on it. I have read few documents provided by Oracle but still I couldn't make much progress.

I am using Tomcat included in the package. I am not using 10gApps.
I have installed EPM system in another machine, but to my surprise I GOT THE SAME ISSUE. I used Tomcat which is included in the package. I don't know where it went wrong altough I followed the procedures in the installation and configuration guide.
One more thing is I am able to open Integration Services and connect to my Oracle SH schema through ODBC adn able to ready for creating OLAP Cubes.
When examining the log file ESSBASE.log I noticed an error message
Single Sign On function call css_init failed with error CSS Error: CSS method invocation error: com.hyperion.css.CSSSystem.<init>
So, I believe there may be some configuration settings missing but not sure.
Hope these are added info.

Cisco desktop administrator Services Configuration Multiline, Monitoring & Recording Remove VoIP/Recording & Playback Services

I remove default VOIP Monitor Service in "Cisco desktop administrator>Services Configuration > Multiline, Monitoring & Recording >Remove VoIP/Recording & Playback Services". Now I can't choose in "Services Configuration > Multiline, Monitoring & Recording > VoIP Monitoring Device" Default VOIP Monitor Service. How can I return choice my VOIP Monitor Service(IP UCCX)?

This can be regenerated by the Cisco Desktop VOIP Monitor Service.
Please stop the service and start it (do not restart). Let me know how it goes and if it resolves the problem.

Essbase Administration Services Console (EAS) using a Web browser

Hi,
We have installed Essbase 11.1.1.3 sucessfully.
we are logging into Essbase Administration Services Console (EAS) using a Web browser, i.e. Internet Explorer. Select the language and i am able to login sucessfully however i am not able to see anything when i expand Essbase server.
I have checked my Java version by going to to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Java. On the Java tab, confirm the Runtime Settings and it is Java JRE 1.6.0_22
I am able to see all my applications and databases when i went into the EAS server and logged in by going to Start-All Programs -EPM System -Essbase -Start Administartion services console.
Can anyone kindly let me know what is the issue why i am not able to see anything when i login to console using a Web browser.

Hi all! I faced into similar problem in March. (installing hyperion EAS "MakeEDSLinkEssdlls: not found"
I have also faced to zip error messages as well. I have started communicate with support, and finally I should have installed each product in separate HYPERION HOME, then I have moved them into one. It isn't easy, but can be done. It is a bithunter method:
First install Shared Service, then Essbase Client and Server. It should be ok.
Configure them with configtool HH/common/...
Then install EAS in different HH. You will have another .hyperion.<hostname> file, so save the 'original'. You will find also a HH/common/.. configtool.
Copy the common dir of that HH to the "original" one and other parts in a separate directory under HH original. Then you have to edit product.xml (HH/common/config/product/...) to point product to their new location (in the "original" HH) and copy to the "original". Then run configtool, and you shall see eas unconfigured in productlist as well. Have attention to have the right .<hostname> hyperion files, when starting configtool. Then you can config eas as well. Good luck! *****It is not a supported method, so do it your own risk! Make copy of your existing phases !!!!! ******

I am going through the same issue.
I've installed and configured Hyperion 11.1.2.3 on my XP machine(XP Service Pack3 32-bit) which has Oracle 11G installed on it..
I'm able to open Shared Services URL and am able to open Workspace URL but I don't see Administrative Services Console in Essbase from Start >> All Programs.
I've checked for the console folder in <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\eas\console\bin. but I don't see a console folder.
I even searched for the file, admincon.bat and din't find that either.
Can any one help me to bring up the Administration Services Console back.
And I also see that Import Data from Earlier Release is failed while configuration is done. Did that has got something to do with?

You may have to install and configure Essbase server to use it.
I think it doesn't support XP.
You can look at the support matrix for supported platforms and get essbase server installed to continue working on it. Have a look at the link Supported Platforms Matrices - Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System to get you started.
At minimum, you need to have windows server 2003 for essbase server

Can't uninstall Essbase Administration Services.........

I want to reinstall all the hyperion essbase components in my pc(server 2003 on VMware Server 2.0.1). I uninstalled all the components like Essbase server, Essbase client and so on .. But I cant uninstall the essbase aministration services as it wont allow me to do so .. It is saying that
" can't uninstall in graphical mode. Try running with -console or -silent flag."
what is that error and how to get rid of this. can anyone suggest me.

What applications do you see when you expand the essbase server and then applications ?
Like Seb said the option to install Sample application is usually available when you configure essbase.

Here I am installed Oracle EPM 11.1.2.2 Essbase,Planning and Reporting and after sucessfull configuration. When I tried to open Essbase Administration Console and there is no option to open administration console and I opened the Hyperion extraction setup folder and I installed Essbase Administration Console setup manuallay and after sucessful installation I try to Open and when I create new server and ir=ts created and then I am trying to connect server its throw this error
Error: Can not Connect to Administration Server
Please give me possitive things.

Did you deploy the web applications to one managed server in the configurator, if you did then EAS is probably running on port 9000 so you would need to enter the server in the EAS console as servername:9000

EAS(Essbase Administration Services)

Hi everybody,I red a doc about EAS on this site which indicates that it is possible to install EAS from the Essbase 6.5.1 CD.But by parsing the CD, I don't see anything related to this product.Can somebody tell me if it is because of our license number or if it is a separate product that we need to purchase?Thanks

It was orginally meant to be included on the CD but never was so the autorun menu includes a selection for it. You can download it from the Download centre or support area on hyperion.com.The product is not license controlled i.e. any Essbase license gets use of EAS unlike Essbase deployment Services which is a purchased option.Hope this helps.Paul Armitage.Analitica Ltd.www.analitica.co.uk

How to add teradata Data type in essbase shared services configuration

I am not getting oracle or Teradata during configuration of Shared Services in database type
PIC HERE
I added both the database (sample SH for oracle and WIMM (personalized database ) for Teradata) in the microsoft odbc administrator on the machine .
but it does not detect these data bases -- does any one know to configure and add databases to the drop down list .

When configuring shared services it does not use ODBC connections it uses JDBC, by default you should see Oracle in the dropdown but you will not see teradata.
You don't mention the version but if it is 11.1.2.x then you should see a screen like http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__2AaArK5lW8/S9XEZAzyHEI/AAAAAAAACRE/DI1A9ui7kTM/s1600/13.png when configuring shared services for the first time.

Installation of client Essbase Administration Services Console 11.1.2

My EAS console opens and connects successfully, but I am unable to right-click outline members or expand the outline by clicking on dimension names.
I tried to install the client tier of Oracle EPM 11.1.2 including EAS console, EPMA, and Reports on my laptop. I'm running 32-bit Windows 7. After a few failures, I thought I successfully installed these products by:
1) first installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter (not sure this was necessary),
2) running the install "as Administrator", and
3) copying this folder from a colleague's installation: C:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseStudio\Console\workspace. The last folder was probably not created in the installation for some reason. I only realized that this folder was missing when I found this error log when trying to login Essbase Studio -

After all this, I can successfully login to Essbase Studio, however, my EAS console still does not work properly. I realize I can use the web console, but I think this is an installation problem that will cause problems later with other products.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I've experienced similiar problems in multiple environments. Even the outline for Sample.Basic was locked. I just stumbled across something that corrected the problem (at least for now :) ). I opened one of my outlines, selected the "*Account*" dimension and then chose to "*sort the children of the selected member in descending order*" (menu option directly above database outline) and somehow that unlocked my outline. Not sure why that solved the problem, but it did.

Essbase administration service. The SQL data access source is greyed out

After i tried to install EAS and try to create a rule file, I find out that I am unable to select the datasource from "SQL data sources" field, which has been greyed out. However, I am able to make the connection in another environment that use the same settings. This is a replica of the system.
1) Is there something with the connection. If yes, what file(s) I need to check and any other things that I need to check. It could be something with the jdbc.ini file perhaps. But when I try to check this ini file, it appears the same with the one that works in the other environment

To configure data sources on UNIX:
1.Open the $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini file and add a data source description.
2.Copy the $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini to $ESSBASEPATH/bin/.odbc.ini.
3.Create a symbolic link to the $ESSBASEPATH/bin/.odbc.ini from the UNIX user home directory:
ln -s $EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x/odbc.ini /home/myfolder/.odbc.ini
4.Verify that the odbc.ini file in the user home directory matches the odbc.ini file in EPM_ORACLE_HOME/common/ODBC/Merant/x.x.
If the files do not match, repeat step1 through step3
The ODBC-64 folder is used when the Linux is a 64 bit.
Check if these are the steps you followed to create the Data Source.
The connection to the DSN created can be checked by below steps in Unix..
