Essbase agent hang

Hi All,
Lately we have been having issues where essbase agent gets into a unresponsive state. You cannot open the EAS console. You can log in via MaxL but you get the hour glass.
Our essbase server in on a Sun Solaris Machine. EAS is on win 2003.
Quite a few times it has been identified that the essbase port range which in our case is 32871 - 33768, one of the ports has been used by other app due to which essbase agent hangs.
Has any one faced this issue before? Is there a workaround for this issue?
Thanks,

That is true. If you have an application that using the same port as Essbase agent, then the agent will be hung. We resolved it by making sure Essbase has exclusive port range. Hope this helps.
Kris.

  • Essbase Server Hangs Intermittently - Urgent pls Help

    Essbase Version - 9.3.3
    Shared Services - 9.3.3
    Enviroment - Windows Server 2003
We are in the process of migrating the users from Domain A to Domain B
There are around 15000 users across the board, out of which I assume there are around 250 users accessing the Hyperion Application.
Since the Domain Migration was started, We encountered Essbase Server freezes Intermittently.
Essbase Server goes down for about 10-15 Minutes and automatically comes back. No Error Msg in the Essbase Log.
Active Directory Migration was put on Hold because business had to complete their Month end Activities.
While we were working to find the RCA and identified that few users who were migrated from Domain A to Domain B appeared to be on Both the Domain and we figured out that it might be one of the reason for Essbase Server Hangs.
We had a Plan to Run the Update native Directory Utility to clear the Stale Data
Post Performing the Action our system was stable and didn't had system Hangs.
we also changed the shared services Cache refresh Interval to 24 Hrs in CSS.xml File ( Just to Make sure the Refresh happens Overnight)
Since the Active Directory Team had resumed their Migration Activies, we started Experiencing the System Hangs Issues again. server goes down for 5-10 min and comes back up
Please Input your Valuable Thoughts, Would Really Appreciate your Help.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your prompt response.
As mentioned, AD team have the filters on place, There is no issues with the User Access and there was no change in password after migrating the Domain.
I have checked the Display Session through Maxl and there is No heavy sessions.
As Stated earlier, we are unable to identify the cause regarding the System Freeze. All users access the application all  of sudden essbase server hangs and it doesn't allow user to retrieve the data, nor allow him to access any application within Essbase and Planning.
After 5-10 Min,  server automatically comes back.
Can you tell me if there is a way to track the system Hangs through Essbase Log without getting the any inputs from the users.
Assuming if the users sessions are heavy what makes the server hang and automatically resumes without intervention.
Shared Services Security Log display the following Error, Can you tell me if you had come across any such errors before.

  • Oracle Agent hangs up

    Hi all,
Oracle runs on a UNIX machine. And it always occurs that the Oracle Agent hangs up, occupies 49% CPU and leaves themselves, only over Services to stop. No error message, anything does not come. How can I solve this problem?

  • Post call survey subflow script after agent hangs up?

    Hi,
I am trying to have the caller, whom is remaining on the line, sent to a post call survey subflow after the agent hangs up. However, the main script terminates upon the agent hanging up so the subflow script is not being called.
I have been doing a lot of searching and scratching my head and I'm leading to believe that the On Exception Goto step may work? Although, it seems that this step is intended if the caller hangs up, not the agent. Or does it matter?
I want the main script to call the subflow script seamlessly without any agent intervention (although this may have to be my last resort). Any insight?
    Thank you so very much.

Simply stated, what you are trying to do is not possible.  The reason is because when the caller is connected to an Agent, the Contact for that script (--Triggering Contact--) is not active any longer, and therefore you have no control over it.  The caller would have to land on a Trigger a second time, in order for the Contact to become active once more.
Now, let's talk about what options do exist.
    You can either:
Have the Agent send the caller to the survey trigger via transfer
Have the caller call back in to the survey trigger via verbal instructions during the initial IVR
Have the IVR dial the caller back at a later time to take the survey (could use HTTP triggers or Outbound Campaign)
This is a limitation of UCCX.  UCCE on the other hand maintains call control the entire time, so when the caller disconnects from the Agent, it can route the caller through another routing script if desred.

  • Historical Reports: Caller hang up / Agent hang up

Someone knows if it is posible to create a report per call that shows when the caller hang up and when the agent hang up?
    Thanks

    Hi
Yep - CUCM does store the detail of which end hung up in the CDR. If I recall correctly it marks a 'DisconnectCause' on either the originator or destination side (i.e. 16 for a normal call disconnect) and leaves the other side (that didn't disconnect first) as a 0.

  • Essbase Agent Error

Whenever we try to connect to the Essbase Server from the eas console, we get this error:
Network Error 10061: Unable to connect to <servername>
The client timed out waiting to connect to Essbase agent using TCP/IP.
    Check your network connections.
Also make sure that server and port values are correct.
When we login to the server, we see this error:
Essbase Agent encountered a problem and needed to close.
In the OPMN logs, we see this:
    [2011-01-22T17:41:44][opmn][ERROR:1][661][OPMN]Process Crashed: Essbase1~EssbaseAgent~AGENT~1 (1461847556:3136) - Not restarting
    What does this mean?
The connections were working fine until last week. If I restart OPMN, then everything is fine-again the same problem starts the next day.
Please help with suggestions to troubleshoot.

Find out on which port it is processing...
i will tell you the steps to check the prot number....please find below...
How do I find the Ports?
*1.     Export the list of currently running tasks to a text file.*
    a.     From the Start menu, click Run.
    b.     In the Run dialog box, type: CMD. Click OK.
    c.     At the command prompt, type: tasklist /svc > c:\tasklist.txt. Press the ENTER key on your keyboard.
Note: If using Windows XP Home Edition, tasklist may not be a recognized command. If this is the case, the Process Identifier (PID) must be found using Windows Task Manager. Open Windows Task Manager, click the Processes tab, click View, and then click Select Columns. In the Select Columns dialog box, check PID (Process Identifier), and then click OK. Locate the program you are troubleshooting and find the corresponding PID number.
*2.     Export the list of currently open ports to a text file.*
    a.     At the command prompt, type: netstat -aon >c:\netstat.txt. Press ENTER.
    View Picture
    *3.     Open tasklist.txt.*
    a.     From the Start menu, click Run.
    b.     In the Run dialog box, type: c:\tasklist.txt. Click OK.
*4.     In the tasklist file, locate the program you are troubleshooting. Note the Process Identifier (PID) for the process. In this example we are troubleshooting Windows Media Player (wmplayer), which is PID 1988.*
    View Picture
    *5.     Open netstat.txt.*
    a.     From the Start menu, click Run.
    b.     In the Run dialog box, type: c:\netstat.txt. Click OK.
*6.     In the netstat file, find an entry with the same PID as you found in the earlier step. In this example, we are finding PID 1988.*
    View Picture
*7.     In the netstat file, note the protocol used (TCP or UDP) for the PID you found. In this example, the protocol is UDP.*
*8.     In the netstat file, note the port number for the PID you found. The port number is the number following the IP address in the Local Address column. In this example, the IP address is 127.0.0.1 and the port number is 1081. Windows Firewall requires the port number and the protocol to create an exception. In this example, the port number is 1081 and the protocol is UDP.*
Note: If the port number(s) for the process are less than 1024, it is likely that the port numbers will not change. If the numbers used are greater than 1024, the application may be using a range of ports, so opening individual ports may not reliably resolve the issue.
Check it and let me know on which port number the Aggent is running...if it is not running on port number 1423 you will get this error....

  • Data size increase more than 5 fold after essbase services hangs up

I have a situation where data explodes by more than 5 fold after essbase hangs. This data explosion occurs not just at level 0 but at the parent also. The logs does not really tell me anything, but it really seem to be a consistent process.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

If you export the level 0 data iin column format I bet you see a lot of either zero data or data which is repetitive; I've never seen essbase just spontaneously make data without a calculation or incorrectly setup member formula causing it.
What are the circumstances around the hanging condition? How do you get out of the hang condition? When was it stable last and what changes have been made to the outlilne and/or calculations since this behavior began?

  • Agents hanging up on customers?

    Post Author: jase4now
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
Please forgive me if this is in the wrong area.
Is there a way, or a report, that can show if an agent is hanging up on callers?  I run reports for a call center that has 65+ operators.  Most of my operators average 4:40 (m:ss).  I have one operator in paticular that averages 1:30 or less!  I think he has found a way to 'work' the system.
    any help is appreciated,

working the system would be one thinghow do you track details of the call? or this simply based on open and close datetime? Its kind of like tracking down ripples in a pool, you need something distinct to track it down too else you don't really have much to work with.

  • ZFD agent hangs after splash screen

    I've got a maddening problem with the latest IR4 Hp1 agent. I had a
thread going on about uninstalling/reinstalling in this forum.
I have a classic example on my bench. I have 3 identical machines. I
had just "fixed" the agent by uninstalling/reinstalling. 2 of them are
now broken again. What happens is you see the splash screen, and the
zen icon in the tray has the "off line" appearance. You can't get a
menu by right clicking. Applications don't appear, nor do start menu
entries, nor does Application Explorer. Running Naldiag will cause it
    to hang in the background.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the agent fixes this, however it will
happen again. I also deleted the workstation objects in the tree just
in case and let them reregister with the new agent.
Any suggested trouble shooting tactics to try?

Have you tried back-revving the agent to see if this is a
    version specific problem?

  • Airport Base Station Agent in Windows 7 Hangs when mouting Time Capsule

Hey all, can't figure this one out.
The airport base station agent launches at start up and asks if I'd like to ignore or connect with password. When I choose connect with password the agent hangs, and either goes unresponsive or puts up a dialogue box saying "Could not connect to the disk. Make sure NetBios is enabled and try again (53)." Ususally it just goes unresponsive and I have to close it out. I did briefly have access for a coupple days mapped as "Z" and did a windows back up to it and saw it in "my computer" as drive "Z"
The airport utility itself sees and connects with the time capsule no problem to edit it's settings and so forth. The agent it seems which tries to mount the disk and map the drive with a letter seems to be failing or being blocked somehow. Antivurus software has been removed, the windows firewall ports are open both public and private for the agent AND the utility. NetBios is currently set back to "default" as changing it to "enabled" had no effect.
    Thanks for any help YO!

After setting this thing up as a disk only basically by going through the set up process, at the end, there is a dialogue box that says the time doesn't have a valid IP address. In the input field "router address", I entered 10.0.1.1 and updated settings. The status light stopped flashing amber and turned green and now windows 7 explorer can see it and access it with no problems.

  • Apps hanging on Retrieval through Excel

Essbase 7.1.5 Windows 2003 Server. 16 gig ram
On multiple occasions now I have cases where users retrieving through excel have their retrievals "hang". These are stock retrievals that normally have split second retrieval time.
If I go in through EAS and try and terminate their retrieval it goes into "terminating" indefinitely. I can't stop the app through EAS either, “user performing database operation”.
I can stop the app by killing the process in Task Manager. However if it then restarts, problems start again.
I have to stop all apps, restart the box. Then everything is good again, usually for another 24 hours. Sometimes less, sometimes a couple of days. Problems does not seem to occur on weekends (few to no users. However lots of app rebuilding/restructuring/etc going on)
This box does have alot of activity, with many apps on the go. 10-15 can be loaded at anyone time. Mix of BSO and ASO cubes. Multiple users, across multipile apps, doing multiple excel retrievals with lots of connects and disconnects going on.
Problem has been ongoing for several months now. No I haven't logged a case with Tech support.

I have similar experience over Essbase 5,6,7,9. Please have a look at the reserved portrange of ESSBASE. Applications like event triggered backups, monitors from network provider or whatever can used one or more of the reserved ports in the ESSBASE range and they avoid that the next database, which is requested and needs to be started therfore cannot be "reached" from ESSBASE agent process. Another problem of "freezing" like I called it all the years is that there are agent intensive operations like renaming an application which can freeze the login process or reaction of the agent.
I usally do a tail -f Essbase.log to see if the agent is reacting or not.
But to make it clear, the portrange scan was our solution.
