Essbase Analytical Link bridge creation

Whenever I try to create a new EAL link I am getting error:
Bridge cannot be added: ; nested exception is; java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
After which the bridge does show up but clicking on it, error shows:
Bridge cannot be updated: Bridge doesn't exist
Cannot get bridge status; User is not provisioned for this operation
I am on v11.1.1.3

Hi,
Are you connecting with the admin user ? if not make sure you have necessary access rights.
Also try to connect on the sql server with the eal login (in my case "epmdb") and check if you can open the tables.

Doubt in EAL (Essbase Analytic Link)

I have doubt in EAL (Essbase Analytic Link)
I was not able to find the 'Target Design Grid' tab and 'Connection Type' tab (to set replicate or transparent partition) and 'Security migration' options under 'Essbase' tab in Bridge Window. Any specific selection we need to do for this?
Also, Analytic link repository will contain the tables (metadata) similar to HFM repository which will create the essbase outline. But we make partition with Data synchronizing server with essbase. So it means DSS database also have same tables as Analytic link repository? At what time the DSS database is getting populated?
I gave a try many times by reading Oracle docs but some little doubts are still pending . Hope i will get a reply from you as usual

How does Essbase Analtyical Link/snapshots works

I am new to HFM and Essbase Analytical Link. Though I know certain basics of both i would like to understand the below. Also, all documents related are like admin quides and user guides.
1) What are EAL snapshots ? Im able to see .data files created in the Work/Store folder. How are these created and what do they contain?
2) When users are trying to view data from Smartview using data created by Essbase Analytical link, are they viewing the Data from the .data files created?
3) How does EAL bridge work? i.e. what data does it take from HFM?
If anyone can explain the above in a way a newbie can understand, it will be great.

      DSS - Data Synchronization Server will refreshes these .data files that are stored in the /Work/Store Folder.
       You may get doubt on how the data refresh happens from HFM Relational Tables into the Files that are stored on the Windows Servers. As far as I know, LiveLink Processes connects to the HFM Schema and extracts data into Text File format. It will definitely give chances to ask one more question like
                Where is the Configuration Parameter setting which LiveLink Process connects to HFM Relational database?
               I am not sure about that,some one who has wider experience on the EAL & DSS can update this question.
2) When users are trying to view data from Smartview using data created by Essbase Analytical link, are they viewing the Data from the .data files created?
      If you have created any bridges, there are 3 Options to choose the types of Partitions -> Transparent, Replicated & Not Connected Outline.
      My experience is with the Transparent Partition only; Any Smartview and Financial Reports users will connect to the Essbase Application and retrieves the data from .data Files through the Transparent partition set on the Bridges. Here the Source is DSS Server and the Target is the Essbase server where the Outline resides.
3) How does EAL bridge work? i.e. what data does it take from HFM?
     Now that you have might have understood that different parameters required to setup the bridges. With out EAL Bridges, you can't create the Essbase Database(outline) and can't synchronize the mappings and Data Refresh intervals can be set on the EAL Bridge. This will update the HFM relational data into .data files.

What version of EAL have you installed, what OS + 32bit/64bit are you installing it on.
What version of the OUI did you use.

Has Anyone Been Able to Stand Up Essbase Analytics Link (EAL) for Financial Management in version 11.1.2.2?

Has anyone had any luck standing up the Essbase Analytics Link (EAL) for Financial Management Application in 11.1.2.2? We are to the point where when we click on the “Create Bridge Application” it creates an application and database in EAS and then crashes the Hyperion Essbase Analytics Link Server - Web Application . Prior to this we were getting a NetRetry and NetDelay error and have increased those settings are are not receiving those same errors. I’m curious if 11.1.2.2 is even a functioning version of EAL or if we are out of luck until the next version. Any feedback is appreciated.

FYI, we were able to get EAL up and running after adding the following entries into the registry on our servers...
Solution
This timeout issue can be fixed by adding two tcpip registry parameters, but first you must identify which client was communicating with essbase when the timeout occurred so that you know which machine to add the parameters to. If all the EAL and EPM components are installed on a single machine, then that machine would also host the client. If products are installed in a distributed environment you determine the client machine based on how the EAL Essbase Server component is defined.
The APS URL is part of the Analytics Link, Essbase Server definition in EAL.
If the value (APS URL) is "Embedded" this means that the EAL Application Server is communicating via the JAPI directly with the Essbase Server. In this case the EAL AppServer is the client to the Essbase Server. For this case the following tcpip registry parameters need to go on the machine where the EAL Application Server is running.
If the (APS URL) value is http://serverName:13080/aps/JAPI then the EAL Application Server is communicating by way of Hyperion Provider Services (APS). In this case EAL proxies requests to and from the Essbase Server through APS. This means that APS is the client to the Essbase Server and the tcpip registry parameters need to go on the machine where Hyperion Provider Services are running.
Once you have identified which machine is acting as the client to essbase, set the TcpTimedWaitDelay=30 and MaxUserPort=65534 parameters via the windows registry.
1. Open the Windows Registry.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters.
3. Add new DWORD Value named "TcpTimedWaitDelay"
- right click and select Modify
- Select "decimal" radio button, type in 30.
4. Add new DWORD Value named MaxUserPort
- right click and select Modify
- Select "decimal" radio button, type in 65534
5. A reboot of the server is necessary.

Active Directory Logon / Site Link Bridge Issue

Dear NC,
i have an issue with users in different Locations, to explain easyest here is a little network diagram:
So, as one can see, i have 4 Locations, one is the Headquarter.
The Target Goal is: Users in Location C must Logon with Domaincredentials from Sub.domain.tld from Location A.
Location HQ, A and B are fully routed, Location C has only a route to Location B.
Every Location has at least one writable DC with GC ans DNS Server installed.
I have the following site links:
HQ<>A
HQ<>B
A<>B
B<>C
and also a Site Link Bridge with "A<>B" and "B<>C".
Unfortunatly Users cannot logon in Location C with sub.domain.tld Domaincredentials from Location A.
Need a bit help, thx :-)

I am sorry that I am a little confused here, would you please clarify what do you mean by “Users in Location C must Logon with Domaincredentials from Sub.domain.tld from Location A”?
From what I understand, you have two domains:
domain.tld and sub.domain.tld, and you want that user accounts in
sub.domain.tld (location A) can logon from domain.tld (location C), am I right?
If that is your goal, please make sure the following conditions are true:
During the logon process, specify the right domain name which is like
@sub.domain.tld.
The GC in location C is available to identify the appropriate Domain Controller for authentication process.
There is no network connectivity issues between location A and C, because after GC located a DC in location A, the logon process will take place between location A and C.
In addition, every site should have good network connectivity with at least another site to keep AD replication healthy. If there are critical errors in your HQ site, we should try
to resolve them.

Location of Essbase Analytics Link (EAL) Repository Parameters?

In Essbase Analytics Link (EAL), where are the EAL repository parameters stored? I believe I saw a param or .ini file but I can't seem to locate it within the application directory. I am trying to locate this because I have reconfigured EAL to use a different database for its repository but it is still pointing to the original database despite what the config tool indicates.

You may need to update the JDBC information stored in WebLogic if the web application was not redeployed, you can either edit the datasource through the weblogic admin console or go to <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\user_projects\domains\EPMSystem\config\jdbc\EAL_Repository-xxxx-jdbc.xml

Essbase Analytic Service on Windows 2003 Server won't start

A sytstems admin pushed a lot of updates onto the production Essbase and Shared Services servers last night. This morning the Hyperion S9 BI+ Analytic Services 9.3.1 service on the Essbase Server will not start. Log error says:

I did restore a .SEC file from before the updates were done, no resolution.

Seems to be issue with the timing of starts on Shared Service and Essbase Services.
Try to check in to the complete error file on Essbase, Shared Services to verify whats making the essbase service not to start.
You can try to verify into the below dissucssion which shows resolution on this kind of issue.

LINKING BRIDGE AND PHOTOSHOP

Hi.. I had CS3, where the previous supervisor set up a "contact sheet" as such:
In Bridge, we would hilight photos from a case file, then we would go to Tools>Photoshop> and the "Contact sheet" option was there. Once we clicked on the contact sheet, Photoshop would open and ask us which parameters we would like (paper size parameters, number of photos per page, etc). Once we set these (ie 8x10, 2 by 2 for 4 photos to a page), the photos would open up in this format.
It was ideal for us to generate contact sheets for our clients. Recently, we upgraded to CS4 and lost that command. How do I make it again? Through Bridge? Through Photoshop? I believe it is independent of the "Actions" feature in Photoshop, but I am unsure... Help! Thank you for any input...

The Contact Sheet plug-in was removed in CS4 and replaced with the Output workspace from Bridge. If you want the old functionality then you'll have to install the optional plug-ins. Wireless link(bridge) between two ap 1300

Hello, i need to configure wireless link between my 1300 series, how can i use them like a bridge and access point in the same time?
Do i need static ip for BVI interfacess between them for bridge or its need to be DHCP, is there any example? i would be great to know that

For BVI interfaces you can assign either static or dynamic IP address
But it is highly recommended to have static ip for better management.

hi all my question is simple, I have two servers one windows and one linux.
in the windows servers is installed HFM and in the linux serversis installed ESSBASE and wanted to know which of them should be installed Essbase Link Analitycs.

There are multiple components with EAL, you obviously would put the web components where Weblogic is installed, as for the data sync server that can all depend because it can be resource hungry.
