  • Project Managers to know when a task has been updated for the last time

    Hi,
    I would like know if there is any timestamp feature in Project Server 2007, so that it can be possible for Project Managers to know when a task has been updated for the last time.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    If you are using the My Tasks to drive the task updates then you can use the 'Applied Requests and Errors' available under 'Go To' in the Task Updates area. Here the PM can find when requests have been approved and how many updates he/she received for a
    particular task (by clicking the task name) etc.
    Hope this helps

  • SharePoint Permissions Mode--Project managers can't see all projects

    Hi all,
    My understanding of the SharePoint Permissions Mode is that the permissions and categories granted match the defaults for the same groups in Project Server. I have a situation in which we'd like project managers to be able to see all projects in the organization.
    We're running in SharePoint Permissions Mode. Since the My Organization category is associated with the Project Managers group by default in Project Server and (I believe, as I don't have access to SharePoint Central Administration for the install) the project
    managers are in the SharePoint Project Managers group it seems as though the project managers should be able to see all projects. However, it appears they're only seeing projects for which they're the owner.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks!

    Thanks very much for your response Dinesh. I was afraid of that, though I don't understand why it's so based on what I've read. I've read the Server Administrator's Guide and the TechNet articles on which permissions are granted in SharePoint Permisssions
    mode, but never could find confirmation of this. If you have any other references that I should consult I'd sure appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks again.

  • Remove ability to delete projects from Project Managers

    hello forum members,
    does anyone know how to set up permissions so that Project Managers can't delete projects? (we are using Project Server permission mode)
    tatiana

    Hi Tatiana,
    This setting can be removed in the PWA Settings > Manage Groups. Here you can edit the Project Manager groups and for each one of the selected categories (you will need to click on each) remove the 'Delete Project' option
    Hope this helps

  • Project Managers

    Dear Dina
    What is the difference between resource manager and staffing manager, since they both can assign resources to project, Approvals and many other responsibilities
    Who is having the resource data???
    Thank u very much...

    Hi
    In some large companies the job of the staffing person is to find a match between requirements of project mangers looking for resources, and the resource managers, who have professional responsibility for groups of resources. In such companies the project managers do not interact directly with the individual resources offering themselves for open roles on projects.

  • Reporting a person to 2 project managers

    Hi Friends,

    Generally iam doing reporting structure in simple maintenance.
    looking for your prompt answer
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Piscian,
    Creation of relationship through Matrix Strucutre.
    Pre-requsites: prepare a Org Structure through any of the tool like Org & Staffing Interface, Simple/ General Strucutres.
    Process:  T Code: PPME > Give any of the Matrix Type > In the screen, i first Object ID select the employee > in the second employee select Multiple Selection and give the id of the managers.
            So through this u can create a position reporting to two different positions.

    1) Provide a procedure which allows a user to insert money, and run
    this procedure again to insert more money
    This is one simple way to do get you started.  Save this as yourHomework.java
    public class yourHomework
      private int totalMoney = 0;
      public static void main( String[] args )
        while ( <user wants to keep adding money> )
         int amount = <get the amount they want to add>
         insertMoney ( amount );
         <check if user still wants to add money>
      public void insertMoney (double amount)
      { totalMoney += amount; }
    }2) Provide a procedure to set up an array for 5 different currencies
    to include: (a) Amount of that currency in machine
    (b) Value of that currency i.e. $1.5 = 1 (can be used for
    calculations)
    (c) Name of that currency (i.e. string)
    This information is obtained from the user when he runs that procedure
    and it can be run 5 times to set up the 5 currencies and then again
    i.e. to change currency 1
    I have no clue what you're talking about. 3) Provide a procedure to convert the money (i.e. user is prompted for
    amount he is going to insert (must be greater than 1 pound), and the
    currency he desires. and then it is converted into the appropriate
    currency, and an appropriate message is outputted i.e. "YOU HAVE
    INSERTED 10 POUNDS....15 DOLLARS WILL BE GIVEN"
    public void convertMoney( String oldCurrency, String newCurrency, double amount )
        // do conversion between the 2 types of money
      double newAmount = <result from the conversion>;
      System.out.println( "YOU HAVE INSERTED "+amount+" "+oldCurrency+"...."+newCurrency+" "+newAmount+" WILL BE GIVEN");
    }

  • Tasks were deleted/moved by Project Managers after Time was reported by contributors

    So here is the most bafling situation I have at hands. We are running MS Project Server 2010. There are many projects where users are assigned and time is being reported. Few of the PMs managed to moved the tasks where time was already reported to other
    projects. Now I have timesheets that have UID that no longer exists.
    The actual steps of events might have gone in the following way:
    1. Project was setup with Tasks and users were assigned
    2. Project was then checked in and published
    3. Time was reported by the users and somewhere PM checked out the project
    4. PM never checks the project back in and the moves the tasks around
    5. PM then check-in and publish and -- voila  -- tasks with timesheet disappears
    If this is a client server technology then it should not have happened but it did.
    Questions
    - Has anyone else encountered a similar situation and how they went about fixing it besides the user training?
    - How to fix the ongoing issue?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    a few questions up front:
    Do you use Single Entry Mode (SEM). What page are your users using: really timesheets or are they entering time on tasks page. Are users submitting their actuals or just saving? When the submit and PM is also Status Manager of these tasks, he gets an information
    that updates are pending when opening project plan. If he deletes tasks with actual work, he is also informed that it was no good idea.
    To avoid this situation, I suggest to
    turn on SEM, if not yet done
    follow
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh694531(v=office.14).aspx and
    think about turning on "Only allow task updates via Tasks and Timesheets" in Server Settings - Task Settings and Display. With this enabled, your PMS will not be able to delete tasks with actuals.
    Let us know, how you are working right now and if my suggestions may be an option.

  • Service Model, Health Model, Best Practice (SML)

    Hello
    I am trying to explain to semi-technical people whom do not know SCOM the principle of SCOM when it come to monitoring concepts best practice.
    Therefore what I am looking for please is a set of slides/short video/Q&A etc. which explains the concepts reasoning behind taking the time to workout a Service Model and Health Model at the 'start' of a project (e.g. before installing BusinessAppA)
    so it can be problem monitored and alerts on etc.
    Basically I am trying to get the architects/project managers to think about what I need as a SCOM engineer so I an discover and monitor etc. the Application/System they are proposing to install, rather then picking up this after the event
    Does anyone know of any good resources to explain these concepts to get the message across.

  • Off topic: Substitutes for "Enterprise Architect" on Linux?

    I really like Enterprise Architect, but don't really relish installing Crossover Office and the 1001 Abominations that are required to support EA under Linux - yet I'm mostly developing in a Linux environment these days.
    Can anyone recommend a Linux-compatible product - free or commercial - that's in the same league as EA, particularly for building ER diagrams?
    I know this isn't technically a Java question, but perhaps there's a Java based product that fits the bill.

    dcminter wrote:
    I can always get by with a notepad and a fountain pen; I tended to use EA for its reverse engineering capabilities; I worked on one project where the project managers insisted we document the whole system by using Together to reverse engineer class diagrams and sequence diagrams from the Java code using Together. The class diagrams were not bad bu the sequence diagrams had so much irrelevant detail that they were unusable.
    the ER diagrams made good aides memoires, made it easy to spot silly mistakes in the DB design, and are great for communicating about the DB design, but I rarely use them up front.I don't do much complex BD design - I rely on people who know what they are doing.

    I think Canonical's the best thing that's happened to Linux (even if it does keep reverting my Java config to GCJ (spit) for its own mysterious reasons). I've used various flavours of Linux for years, but gave it up on the desktop because it was too painful to maintain. Finally it's become easier to manage a Linux desktop than a Microsoft one!
    It'll be really interesting to see if people start porting these significant developer applications to Linux, or if decent dedicated replacements will spring up to replace them - or if this is just a blip before Linux gets trampled by its commercial rivals.I would like to change my Wife's computer from Windows XP to Ubuntu but I don't think it's quite there yet. Very close but still a little way to go.

  • Unable to Open Project Site Access Denied Issue Project 2013

    This issue is happening to select projects and select project managers, they can view certain project sites but receive the error on other projects.  After some extensive testing
    it looks like if the PM is the owner of the project plan they are not getting added to any of the synced groups for the project site.  I can change the project owner to any another PM and it processes correctly and adds them to the PM synced group on
    the Project site.  As soon as I make the original PM the Project plan owner again the previous PM gets removed from the PM synced group and added to the Team member synced group, the way its supposed to work.  However the PM with the problem never
    gets added to any group.  I have to manually add them to the non-synced Owner group on the project site so they don't get removed from the synced PM group the next time the sync runs at midnight.
    As I stated it is happening on select project plans and select PMs.  I have tried replublishing the project plan via Project professional and the web and the results are the same.
    If I create a new project plan and assign one of the PMs with the issue to the plan everything works correctly.  We noticed the issue a few weeks ago; most of the plans with the issue are several months to a year old so they were working correctly until
    recently.  They had also made PM owner changes prior to the issue on most of those plans and everything worked correctly.
    If anyone is experiencing this issue and has a fix please let me know.  I am trying not to open an MS support ticket if possible.
    Frank Miranda Florida Hospital MIS

    I believe I've found the fix for this issue.  After opening a ticket with MS support and not getting anywhere with this issue I decided to do an in-depth review of all the Project and SharePoint 2013 CU's starting with December 2013 to September 2014.
    To my amazement buried inside the July 2014 CU was a hotfix for this issue described almost word for word. (I will list all the relevant KB's at the end)  I contacted my support engineer inquiring about this hotfix and he stated it wasn't relevant because
    the "Synchronize Project Web App permissions to Project Site" was not failing or even generating any warnings in our Prod or Test environments.  I stated that is not always an indicator as ULS doesn't always catch all relevant errors.
    I informed him that I also found a second hotfix pertaining to the same issue released August 2014, apparently the first hotfix in July didn't totally resolve the issue and a second hotfix was released.  He was adamant that this would not resolve
    our issue and he requested or production databases because he was unable to replicate the issue in his test environment.  The reason, you may wonder, is because he was at a higher patch level that our farm.... Obviously!  His farm had the most current
    CU which included the hotfixes from July and August.  Apparently he didn't see the flaw in his logic.
    I decided to install the September CU on our test farm. Low and behold that fixed the problem, even though MS support stated the hotfix was not relevant to our issue.  I learned a long time ago to take MS support comments as suggestions instead
    of gospel truth, this isn't the first time they have confidently given me erroneous information.
    We are currently doing further testing to verify that this CU didn't break something else.  Unfortunately these rollups are not GA and Microsoft is very clear that you should only install them if the hotfixes pertain directly to your issue.
    Finding the hotfixes was a chore as Microsoft loves to create multiple KB's for the same thing and then nest (bury) them so you have to dig through four or five KB's to find the relevant fix.  I'll save you the trouble and list them below.
    Watch the
    September CU Webcast Brian Smith and team go into depth explaining why this issue has been happening and how they fixed it.

  • Project Server 2010 - Build Team from Enterprise Greyed out

    I am trying to find out why the Enterprise Resources are greyed out when I try to build an Enterprise Team for a project?
    Starting from Project Server, I open a project in Project Pro.  Then go to Resource..Add Resources..Build Enterprise Team.  In the Build Team window, the Enterprise Resources are greyed out and I am unable to add them to be Project Resources.
    Any ideas?

    David --
    To add to the excellent replies from Guillaume, if you are a member of the Project Managers group, you should be able to add resources to your project team (the resources should not be grayed out in the Build Team dialog).  This is assuming, however,
    that your Project Server administrator has not edited the default permissions in the Project Managers group or in the My Organization and My Projects categories that are part of the Project Managers group.
    Assuming that your Project Server administrator has NOT modified the permissions in the default Project Managers group, the other action that can cause your problem is if you are members of MULTIPLE security Groups, and in at least one of those Groups, your
    Project Server administrator has set a Denied value on one, two, or all three of the permissions that Guillaume references in his first post.
    So, to echo what Guillaume has told you, your situation is most likely caused by a permissions issue.  That being the cause, your Project Server administrator would need to track down and resolve the source of this issue.  Hope this helps.

  • Project Server 2010: PWA Removing Default Project Site Security Groups When Creating a New Project

    I looked for this specific issue with Project Server 2010/PWA/SharePoint and could not find an exact answer... hopefully someone can help.
    We are currently using Project Server 2010 and have a number of project site templates that are used dependent upon the enterprise project type selected. Each of these project site templates have unique permissions which should create the default security
    groups on the project site upon publishing/syncing:
    <Project Name> Members
    <Project Name> Owners
    <Project Name> Visitors
    <Project Name> Project Managers (Project Web App Synchronized)
    <Project Name> Team Members (Project Web App Synchronized)
    Web Administrators (Project Web App Synchronized)
    Whether a user creates a project through PWA or Project Pro 2010 and imports the project into PWA, we get a weird result in the Site Permissions of the newly created project site. PWA will remove all default security groups from the project site template
    and add a whole list of users in the Site Permissions list without groups.
    Once the project is published and the project site is created, we can then go back and add those default security groups back in the project Site Permissions and even add a couple of custom groups without them being removed on all subsequent project syncs
    or publishing.
    How do we get PWA to not overwrite the project site templates' security groups and place each user in the proper default security groups? At the same time, how is PWA adding a number of users into the Project Site Permissions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Paul,
    Thanks for that information. Right now we are using the Test environment to turn the Auto-sync feature back on. I suspect that the reason this is happening is due to PWA groups/categories/security templates. There may be more than one PWA group that is "overwriting"
    the default project site groups upon initial creation of the project. We will look further into the security settings to tighten up the policies.

  • How to use a pwa group in CREATE A TASK PROCESS in SPD 2013 for project server workflow approval process

    I am working on a Project Server 2013 workflow. I am creating this using Sharepoint Designer 2013. In this workflow I am using approval process at one stage. I have created a security group SalesManagers in PWA. I want to use this group for workflow approval
    process. I want all users of this group get approval tasks.
    For this I used START A TASK PROCESS activity in the SP Designer. I clicked on
    this user and created task process. But here I could not find SalesManager group which I created in PWA. I was only able to find the users. I can also see
    Administrators for PWA . But couldnot find SalesManager or any other security group created in pwa.
    Can anyone suggest how I can get the security group created in pwa.

    NBDevelopment,
    I believe SPD only recognizes the SharePoint Groups and not the project server security groups.
    The Administrators for PWA, and few other groups like Project Managers for PWA etc., are synced SharePoint Groups with the security groups, which is why they show up in SPD.
    You could create a SharePoint Group for the Sales Managers group and use that in SPD.
